But by watching a video once a month when UA-cam recommends it , I find new cool plugins and have already gotten used to the other ones you’ve recommended before
I discovered surge some months ago through this channel, and it literally leveled up my production more than any other plugin, the sounds you can make with it are insane, I highly recommend it.
There was a One Synth Challenge (OSC) competition from KVR last month. I tried Surge came up with a nice set of sounds and made a track for the competition called Orange & Blue. The variety of sounds and quality achieved from Surge XT is incredibly high.
Glad someone is repping Ruina! I've been using it in some DOOM-inspired productions & it's honestly one of the best distortions for super gnarly grit. Another amazing free plugin you should check out is FKFX Influx - it's a sequenced resonator/waveshaper with a neat snap-to-scale feature, has really unique LFO controls (with random sequence/shape buttons) & can be controlled via MIDI. Very powerful plugin that I'm surprised more people aren't using
The Fire plugin has the word fire in Chinese in the upper left. I wasn't expecting that! Thank you for the very solid reviews on these plugins. I think you missed your calling though - you're a better keyboard drummer than many session guys I've worked with.
You are, sir, what the internet was supposed to be about, and could yet prove to be! Huge thanks for all the time and energy you put into these videos. I've learned more in a few weeks than in the previous ten years, including how to stimulate ageing brain cells without flushing money down the wormhole. Fuel in your rockets for the journeys to come!
I really like the fact that you took time with every plugin that you presented. Also, appreciate the additional work you put into video quality. Really nice!
Wow, I've been away from the desktop plugins for a few years now, but the free stuff has come a looong way. Ruina is particularly gnarly sounding, but all of these are really high quality! The barrier of entry for music production is getting a bit lower cost wise and I think that's absolutely a great thing.
Hell yes. I started with having Garage Band on my iPhone and really helped build the passion to be able to get my feet wet without having to throw down money right away. The less you spend the better you will become, it definitely doesn’t start with 100k studio. I wouldn’t know what to do with any of that stuff lol!
Honestly I think it's actually gotten a lot lower. I mean in theory if you have Cakewalk it's already got one of the best mixers I've ever seen. Vital, Surge, Kontakt Player and the free Libraries for it, Reaktor Player and it's free Libraries and blocks and then the stuff from Valhalla, MFreeFX bundle, CHOW plugins, Fire. A lot of what you need in a short package. If you were on the ball a while ago a bunch of Plugin Alliance stuff was also free. Free drops and heavy price cuts seem to be very common now because of Plugin Boutique and Audio Plugins Deals
I must say, I'm learning stuff about how to make music and I usually stick to the basic presets on most VSTs and only screw around with the knobs a little bit to make things sound better. Looking at all those modules in Cardinal was like gaining cosmic insight, I felt like my brain was melting. there's a whole world out there and I might just go nuts trying to make strange sounds. 10/10 breakdown would melt my brain again
Bro plays drums with his fingers better than most garage band drummers haha. These are great plugin offers and thanks for the feature. Maybe you don't want your channel to be known for plugin pushing but honestly if it weren't for this type content I may not have been drawn in to check out your channel just off the cuff, but now you def earned a subscription as I'm now browsing your more instructional videos. Kudos and cheers! Edit: as a broke bedroom producer free stuff is always king lol, so I'm more tempted by free plugin reviews I'm not familiar with rather than another tutorial on somesuch that I don't have time to watch only to discover it's a technique I can duplicate in terms I'm already comfortable with
Great presentation and I also want to say that our voice sounds great with what ever mic you're using. It just goes to show that you don't need an SM7 or other giant mic stuck right in your face to achieve great V/O sound....looks so much better to a viewer as well. Nice job. Bill.
This is great stuff. Deelay and Cardinal will be very useful in class. We already play with VCV, but they charge for VST wrapper, so this solves that problem nicely. Thanks!
Hi Venus, new fan here. Like others have said, I really appreciate that your content isn’t “trying to Game UA-cam”. You’re making videos that you think people genuinely benefit from, and you’re not presenting it in that annoying fake-hype way that others do. Thanks for the video! I’m gonna add these VSTs to my setup. Question: what VST are you using for your keys at the beginning? They sound BEAUTIFUL and I would love to use it myself. Thank you in advance!
This is blowing my mind and giving me hope! Gonna download LMMS tomorrow, and am so excited to finally produce my own music! Even more so with the awesome things these can do!!!
If you need some help let me know. I love to help people learn to use DAWs and production skills....it makes me happy to see people turn that light bulb on! id be down to chat iwth ya on discord or whatever chat program you want to use and walk you through some stuff.
As someone who is gonna start learning FL studio and already knows that this is the style that they want, thank you so much for making this and I hope you have an immaculate new year
Great stuff - thanks! Another way to get audio recorded from some plugins/approaches that might prove tricky, and should work in any DAW, is the free plugin MRecorder from Meldaproduction. Just insert it anywhere in the signal chain where it can intercept the audio to be recorded, and it can record a file from there. I use it a lot to record performances (knob twisting, etc.) that I don't want to automate, etc. It's great and also free.
This video and your last one are probably the 2 best free plugin videos I have seen anywhere. I respect your commitment to quality over quantity. I got chills hearing the possibilities of those plugins as you played them. :D
Surge XT is fantastic. I have to try the others. I must share that a free plugin that I had to donate money out of guilt years ago was Shattered Glass Audio's *SGA1566.* It's impressive! I couldn't in good conscience have it for free. Sounds like hardware and very different than any other plugin, free or paid. Also, all Full Bucket Music plugins are amazing, especially for being free. Throw a high quality reverb on them and watch your jaw drop. The guy constantly updates them and has them available in the new CLAP format. While he doesn't charge, he does have a donate button for website hosting purposes, which I've used many times. We gotta support these amazing people!
Thanks for having this! I already have too many vst's and trimmed down how many I have installed but a couple of these such as the Deelay look nice. FL Studio just came out with a big update that has a multiband delay, haven't updated yet but am looking forward to that as I am fond of delays. Thanks again. Peace, Steve
First time viewer. You did an awesome video. I’d say for free synths there is vital which is a modular synth that you can pay for extra fun stuff for. Cheese machine and tyrell n 6 are excellent free instruments. The cheese machine site also has a free clav that is pretty great. Decidedly has a mad decent sampler with free instruments.
Laughed my ass off on Jeremy's "Say please" :) Fantastic plugins, excellent selection! Can you please do a extended version on glitchy plugins and loop/sample manglers - like Glitch2, Turnado, and so on? Also, a selection of your best physical modellers and software drums, or how would you make a drum sounds from noise (seen latest FabFilter videos narrated by Dan Worrall - yes, liek that but for other sounds, not just BD/SD). There, I gave you my preferred list - and thank you thank you thank you so much for your videos, you're a true inspiration and ... you're the best, man - as nobody does it as good as you do!
Awesome video, from the quality of the editing to the one of the plugins you showed. I feel the passion behind your work. Just simply thank you for letting me learn that something like this exists!
Thanks for sharing! The Paul Stretch plugin alone was worth the price of admission! This! - to create great moving interesting ambiences - instead of buying library after library for Kontakt on Audio Plug in Deals or VST Buzz Deals that all have their uses, but in the end kinda sound somewhat similar. Now to create my own... The best part is now we can think musical ideas - then mutate to ambience rather than the other way round... which allows tying in closer to other more standard musical approaches.
Massive kudos to you good sir. I truly appreciate your channel and your content, and of course, yourself for bringing this stuff to us. I now use most of these in my work flow as not only are they pretty awesome but they're relatively low cpu usage too. The Sixth Sample Deelay and the Audio Modern trio are especially nice; extremely powerful and get used in almost everything i do now, in some way shape of form. The latter can be used for really obvious sound design or even just to add some subtle movement all over the audio field. Thank you once again 😉
I thought the voice over in the beginning was one of those automated machine voices until I heard the pauses, and then knew right away it was a real person. Then I thought it was someone that is paid to do voiceovers, but then I saw you and full circle. You certainly have a great voice for any type of voiceover. I would listen to you read books...
Man, I can't believe I wasn't already subscribed. This is one of the most highest value videos on the internet when it comes to plugins. Not to mention your playing is absolutely beautiful. Love how you demonstrated each plug. 🤯
Thanks so much for all these awesome suggestions! The only I had actually heard of before watching was Surge... so cool to have a few new toys to play with!
I Personally think Vital should also be on this list, especially for people who create electronic music. It's basically a slightly better but completely free version of Serum
I monitor all the free stuff on the net like fucking military radar, but you always find something else I haven't seen before. Recently in DeepEnd you recommended Cardinal to me and I drowned in it. Today I saw a free multi-band distortion... You never cease to amaze me.
The fact you actually show good vst plugins that haven’t been talked about like a billion times, I may not use the but damn I’m always impressed Also will there ever be a tutorial on how to use the modular synth? It seems a bit scary to get into
To be fair, what Cardinal is modelling is a bunch of physical electronic devices out in the real world (where they cost _substantially_ more), and those physical modular synths do have videos made about them. The biggest difference is probably just the physical experience of plugging in cables and twiddling knobs vs. using a mouse or trackpad, so any "introduction to modular synthesis" video out there will give you knowledge that's immediately transferrable to the virtual modular rack in your computer. Basically: yes, it totally does look scary at first because _everything_ is right there all at once, but each module does a relatively simple thing (sometimes to the extreme, where something you'd think of as a simple step requires the involvement of more modules that you might've thought) and you chain them together to generate and shape your sounds.
You can find lots of beginner material into VCV Rack, which Cardinal is based on. The biggest different you'll find is that Cardinal won't have every module from the VCV ecosystem, but most things should translate very well. (And that Cardinal takes audio and/or midi info directly from the DAW)
Yes! Sonosaurus's PaulStretch has the standalone application as well! That was what annoyed me about the Xenakios version where it was VST only. (I know Audacity has the PaulStretch option but the controls are limited)
@@GizzyDillespee That's why the Sonosaurus option is great as it will give you more controls. In fact, it's going to be updated soon(ish) that allows for live output recording and the return of binaural beats (was in the OG PaulStretch).
What's crazy is that I don't have any of these except Paul Stretch (because that ones been around in various forms for a LOOOOONG time). I can't wait to check them out!
God loves you and wants every single one of ya'll with Him and that means a lot because He's literally the mightiest being ever, and God created all of us
I love that you base tune your voice so well that if I didn't see you I'd actually think you were some gym bro. This video reminds my that sometimes watching youtube on a 7.1 system is actually worth it. UA-cam is very good at butchering audio. I love that people still use MIDI... long live 1983.
After messing around with Deelay, I can confirm it actually goes harder than it has any right to be and I made a preset literally titled "chill af". Surge has a lot of options to choose from. Maybe even enough to give Sytrus a run for its money. For a free plugin, that's not too bad. And with some tweaking, the sounds have potential, but I didn't go through each and every one because there's just that many.
Hourglass granular to generate audio and then stretch it in Paul's. Can make some amazing distorted atmospheres. Thanks for your videos, just wanderful!
What an incredible shopping list - and all within my budget. I'm super late to the party but thank you for sharing these! I'm hunting every single one of them down.
Great video! Thank you so much. I have a question... do you have any advice on what makes a good plug-in better for live performance vs production only? I don't produce music for recording... I perform live using Ableton and I play flute piano and vocals and create live musical immersions. What do I need to look out for in a plug-in for live performance vs production - I am guessing its a CPU issue?

I use vital because i find surge to be a bit of an eyesore and i couldn't find as many tutorials for it that coveted the basics of synthesis
That patch! Amazing stuff. Thanks as always for all your support of Surge!
Very powerful plugin that I'm surprised more people aren't using
love fkfx even when their plugins kill my cpu
Cardinal that modular synth is absolutely nuts. I never thought that such a fun tool will be free
Well hey I'm really glad to hear that! Cheers! ☕
Jesus loves yall and died for us! Jesus calls for all of us to repent!!! !
I'd say Jesus is getting tired of you making an ass of yourself. @@highestpeeqs9532
Yea bro, just keep screwing with the knobs and eventually, you suddenly know exactly what all of 'em do!
Nice job. Bill.
I am thankful you shine light on Ruina. I needed something like this to create more of a darker tone for my instrumentals. Thank you Venus Theory!!
Jesus loves yall and died for us! Jesus calls for all of us to repent!!! !
This is great stuff. Deelay and Cardinal will be very useful in class. We already play with VCV, but they charge for VST wrapper, so this solves that problem nicely. Thanks!
i love the layout of the video how he is looking at the left side of the screen just as we are
I appreciate the commitment to make meaningful content, this video deserved the million views
@@jedimindtrix2142 I definitely need help! (Though apparently I already had it downloaded and made a small song in it, I just don't remember)
As someone who is gonna start learning FL studio and already knows that this is the style that they want, thank you so much for making this and I hope you have an immaculate new year
Hey you. Get back to it and follow your dreams. Don't give up! You can do it! It just takes time.

5 seconds into the intro and I'm won over. Subbed. Fulfilled. Perfect
I cannot believe I've never heard of Surge before, wow, it is absolutely incredible, way better than many $50 synths! Great video!
Ah, Surge is hell of a (hybrid) synth.
surge is awesome. sooooo many great presets. all about presets on these things.
What ever sound ur using for the first plugin is absolutely beautiful , especially with the chords you are using!
I want to know what Sound it is
@@chris17onesame, that e-piano sounds so good..
Peace,
Steve
First time viewer. You did an awesome video. I’d say for free synths there is vital which is a modular synth that you can pay for extra fun stuff for. Cheese machine and tyrell n 6 are excellent free instruments. The cheese machine site also has a free clav that is pretty great. Decidedly has a mad decent sampler with free instruments.
appreciate the hardwork put behind this. such a underrated youtuber
Same, properly laughed at that
Huge fan of Valhalla Supermassive, so I was considering dropping the $$ on Shimmer, but I think for now, Deelay might be a good alternative!
Amazing line-up of actually AMAZING free plug-ins.
your channel calms me down in a good way. i don't feel stressed at all about learning Mixing/production.
Awesome video, from the quality of the editing to the one of the plugins you showed. I feel the passion behind your work. Just simply thank you for letting me learn that something like this exists!

Immediately grabbed 8 out of 9 of these plugins, thank you for sharing!

This is super helpful. I already downloaded Deelay and will probably use the reverb effect on every track I make. Can’t wait to try Paul Stretch.
Thanks so much for all these awesome suggestions! The only I had actually heard of before watching was Surge... so cool to have a few new toys to play with!
As someone who has spent about $2000 in the last year on plug ins, listen to this man.
Which plugins did u purchase with this big budget (just curious)
"Do what I say, not what I did..."
@@Rami-bi9xjWouldn't take long to spend that much on UA plugins.
I Personally think Vital should also be on this list, especially for people who create electronic music. It's basically a slightly better but completely free version of Serum
except it doesn't do wavetables etc without having the paid version of it
Jesus loves yall and died for us! Jesus calls for all of us to repent!!! !
I monitor all the free stuff on the net like fucking military radar, but you always find something else I haven't seen before. Recently in DeepEnd you recommended Cardinal to me and I drowned in it. Today I saw a free multi-band distortion... You never cease to amaze me.
Glad to be of service!
I’m absolutely mind blown by these!!! 🤯🤯🤯 Thank you so much for taking the time to make sure these plugins weren’t trash.
Thanks for the recommendation of Surge XT. Some very interesting sounds and found the missing instrument for a track I'm working on.
0:06 like we all have 1.6 terabytes of storage to spare
The fact you actually show good vst plugins that haven’t been talked about like a billion times, I may not use the but damn I’m always impressed
Also will there ever be a tutorial on how to use the modular synth?
(And that Cardinal takes audio and/or midi info directly from the DAW)
no way
@@nitroanilinmusic thank you btw
Yes! Sonosaurus's PaulStretch has the standalone application as well! That was what annoyed me about the Xenakios version where it was VST only. (I know Audacity has the PaulStretch option but the controls are limited)
the Audacity option is just a tease. I'd like something better...
@@GizzyDillespee That's why the Sonosaurus option is great as it will give you more controls.
In fact, it's going to be updated soon(ish) that allows for live output recording and the return of binaural beats (was in the OG PaulStretch).
@@DerekPower by any chance, you also have experience with Composers Desktop Project?
@@kurisuchiinathecrocodile333 I have not, but I will definitely check this out =]
What's crazy is that I don't have any of these except Paul Stretch (because that ones been around in various forms for a LOOOOONG time). I can't wait to check them out!

Hey man, love listening to your voice. Love the videos and the explaining. Youre a pillar of our community
I love how the Deelay explains what the knobs do and it actually makes sense unlike serum
Those Audiomodern plugins sound so magical when they are all used together. Definitely about to be downloading those!
OMG thank you so much for this info. Incredible plug-ins. I’m 5 minutes into this video and my mouth has hit the floor. Can’t wait to try these out!!!
I love that you base tune your voice so well that if I didn't see you I'd actually think you were some gym bro.
This video reminds my that sometimes watching youtube on a 7.1 system is actually worth it. UA-cam is very good at butchering audio.
I love that people still use MIDI... long live 1983.
That Deelay plug-in sounds great , so many parameters to play with. Thanks heaps for this mate , gained a new follower.
Wow, the reverse chaos on the Deelay plugin sounds so pretty!
First time viewer. Instantly subscribed. And man that voice of yours! Keep up the good work VT.
Thanks for this, you opened up a world of tech I was slightly aware of but have never really dove into it.
4:57 what are these chords? what key, what scales? that voicing? teach us theory lol
I love how you spend the entire first 5 minutes of the video blessing our ears with heavenly chord riifs 😂
That Deelay is insane, lovely keyboard work making it really shine.
