There's something about Gerry Rafferty's original that brings back my childhood. I distinctly remember hearing this song piped through my parents' stereo and thinking there was something so beautiful and soothing about the saxaphone and how the song came together. The Foo Fighters did a great job of modernizing it. A lot of covers fail to deliver the underlying "feel" of the song but FF did a great job of keeping it intact despite the sax being replaced by guitar. It flat out rocks.

This song always has a sad melancholy about it…Brings me back to the summer of 78, listening to this on the radio while playing outside. The FF do a great job with this 45-year old song…Can’t believe it’s been that long
Summer of ‘78…I had graduated from high school and had a place at the state university waiting on me. Idyllic momentary pause… this song was a great backdrop to that time.
I used to listen to the Rafferty orig working construction for my dad when I was 14 and think, 'this song has a great sound, but it would be awsome if you rocked it out!' I am forever indebted to Mr. Grohl and friends for making this dream a reality!
Just discovered this, outstanding, love how the rocky chorus comes in after daves soft singing and yet the lead guitar is tempered as if its coming from down a long corridor , what a great mix
I love the Foos' and I never thought of them doing this Gerry Rafferty song, it's interestingly refreshing. I didn't think younger people really paid attention to music I grew up with. Pretty cool.😮, Vic.
This is a great cover. I want to get on the interstate and floor it because I know I need to be somewhere else. Percussion adds intensity to the drive. Can feel a storm approaching and looking forward to it
Normally I say the original is the best version and all others try to come close at best. But this version of Baker Street was powerful and masterfully done. Even the guitar riff at ---> 4:00 was deep and with a haunting feel that goes to the core. Bravo Foo Fighters! This was a fantastic performance...
Despite the fact that I like the original more, I still say HATS OFF!!! This is a very original and daring endeavor that was well done. I'm not a big Foo fan but, this could change my mind. Well done Dave and co.

I was a freshman in '78' when this song came out and it seemed like it on the radio constantly and that was fine by me! Really takes me back to a great time in life... awesome 😎
Dave Grohl seems like he relates to hearing this song while riding in the back seat of his mom's car in the 70s ...legs sticking to vinyl seats of her Ford LTD, getting bitched out for spilling his Slurpee and his "no good dad" forgetting to pay child support. Have no clue if this is remotely his childhood, but I feel he was one of "us"
trust me, im a big foo fan, they wanted to make their own version of the song, and they did, the pourpose wasnt play the song like the original, pretty much foo style, like gas chamber, i love this cover like every foo song, i prefer the original YES, but this one still soo good, and the best thing is that i can listen to both.
I was already a fan of the original when I first heard this song when it came out. Fell in love immediately, and it became one of the first songs I ever learned to play all the way through on my guitar. Busting out the main riff always gets attention because most people know it. This and Metallica’s cover of Bob Seger’s “Turn the Page” released around the same time are two of the best covers of all time.
Hallo Friedi: Genau! The greats always give tribute to fellow greats. This song and cover is no exception. The Beatles had a HUGE catalog of covers. This is how one becomes better and relevant. . .thanks, Foos. . .
Imagine they would have to pay to sing it. Maybe that's why. Or that they have a huge library of their own works to sign. But I agree I would like to hear it live.
This song takes me back to a specific memory when Napster first came available and a friend was trying find the original version to this song and tried to explain the guitar solo to us. Someone even called their uncle and he just asked us if we were high and why were calling him so late at night wondering about the name of a song (we probably were) Finally, I remembered the Foo Fighters cover after listening to it on a local rock station and blurted out" Backer Street" and he finally was able to find and download the song. Kids today have no idea about the luxury of listening to any song at any given time without worrying about "pirating music".

Winding your way down on Baker Street
Light in your head and dead on your feet
Well, another crazy day
You'll drink the night away
And forget about everything
This city desert makes you feel so cold
It's got so many people, but it's got no soul
And it's taken you so long
To find out you were wrong
When you thought it held everything
You used to think that it was so easy
You used to say that it was so easy
But you're trying, you're trying now
Another year and then you'd be happy
Just one more year and then you'd be happy
But you're crying, you're crying now
Way down the street there's a light in his place
He opens the door, he's got that look on his face
And he asks you where you've been
You tell him who you've seen
And you talk about anything
He's got this dream about buying some land
He's gonna give up the booze and the one-night stands
And then he'll settle down
In some quiet little town
And forget about everything
But you know he'll always keep moving
You know he's never gonna stop moving
'Cause he's rolling, he's the rolling stone
And when you wake up, it's a new morning
The sun is shining, it's a new morning
And you're going, you're going home

Idyllic momentary pause… this song was a great backdrop to that time.
The production value alone is phenomenal. They took a great song and added to it! It's great!!...Robby.
Those of you crying over this version, keep crying.
This is incredible.
Dave Grohl, is that you?
I’m loving it! 🔥 I’m a huge fan of the original but this one kicks ass🔥🎸🎤
Im still crying ass
I wasn't crying but this comment makes me feel like I should start
This is one of the hottest songs I have ever heard in my entire life.
I used to listen to the Rafferty orig working construction for my dad when I was 14 and think, 'this song has a great sound, but it would be awsome if you rocked it out!' I am forever indebted to Mr. Grohl and friends for making this dream a reality!
Great cover ! Foo Fighters Rule!! Still miss the..."Heavy Sax" though!👍🎸😎🎷
Man I fuckin' love this song!
Just discovered this. Love at first hear!!!!
This is a great cover. I want to get on the interstate and floor it because I know I need to be somewhere else. Percussion adds intensity to the drive. Can feel a storm approaching and looking forward to it
I don't know how I am just now hearing about this version but I love it. This song is a great memory of my childhood and the summertime!!
Normally I say the original is the best version and all others try to come close at best. But this version of Baker Street was powerful and masterfully done. Even the guitar riff at ---> 4:00 was deep and with a haunting feel that goes to the core. Bravo Foo Fighters! This was a fantastic performance...
Awesome covers these guys do, such good taste
Despite the fact that I like the original more, I still say HATS OFF!!! This is a very original and daring endeavor that was well done. I'm not a big Foo fan but, this could change my mind. Well done Dave and co.
The 90s....the last time America was truly great
Yeah. Tks for paying Homage to Baker Street. Amazing cover. Love you guys!!
God has this beautyful peace of heavenly music on his iPod ...
Best cover song of any song by any band I’ve ever heard !!! Paying total respect to the original while putting their own stamp on it ! Awesome !
How have I been a foo fighters fan for like 23 years and never heard this
Because it’s not on Spotify! lol.
I was half way through the sax solo before I realized it was a guitar.. Lol I love Gerry Rafferty and the Foo Fighters so, this was a treat! 😘🎸🤗🎵👍🎤😀
Still one of my fav songs to this day, this remake is aweome , the style really suits foo fighters
This is a great example of adding to an already perfect rock classic tune. Its brilliant and I love it!
This blew me completely away. They took an already great song and made it their own.
Awesome covers these guys do, such good taste
Fantastic version in it's own right. I love this and I love the original. RIP Gerry
This blew me completely away. They took an already great song and made it their own.
also....great job
I learned to play this when I was a young boy. Im a rhythm man and this is one of the few occasions I make it cry and weep!
Have no clue if this is remotely his childhood, but I feel he was one of "us"
love it I agree he's one of us
should have said sex stains,kid
Damn. You just narrated my early childhood, except the vehicle was a 71 Satellite
One of us
Glad we all made it
Lol there wasn't child support really at that time but this made me laugh
In my case, I was in my Dad's car getting a break from my no-good mother.
trust me, im a big foo fan, they wanted to make their own version of the song, and they did, the pourpose wasnt play the song like the original, pretty much foo style, like gas chamber, i love this cover like every foo song, i prefer the original YES, but this one still soo good, and the best thing is that i can listen to both.
It's a cover! If you like the original, better, then listen to that. I give the FFs an A for effort!
Josie S. yeah they had big shoes to fill.
Heard it for 1st time a few weeks ago on the radio & was completely blown away. Very original & a kick ass cover!!!
Just gutted, thank you Taylor for all the music
Wow. You can't beat the original but this is great! Great job on a great song.
one of the best covers ever
I was already a fan of the original when I first heard this song when it came out. Fell in love immediately, and it became one of the first songs I ever learned to play all the way through on my guitar. Busting out the main riff always gets attention because most people know it. This and Metallica’s cover of Bob Seger’s “Turn the Page” released around the same time are two of the best covers of all time.
This excellent cover just made my life today....thx foos I needed that guitar solo!🙌😊🤘
Hallo Friedi: Genau! The greats always give tribute to fellow greats. This song and cover is no exception. The Beatles had a HUGE catalog of covers. This is how one becomes better and relevant. . .thanks, Foos. . .
If this doesn't wanna make you play air guitar 🎸, then I don't know what will!😁
Air *everything* !
In exactly the same way we all air saxed to the original. Love it! ❤
I would die peacefully if I heard them play this live... Seen them 6 times and still no Baker Street
Imagine they would have to pay to sing it. Maybe that's why. Or that they have a huge library of their own works to sign. But I agree I would like to hear it live.
I love Rafferty's original but the FF cover takes it to a whole new dimension. I just want to buy the thing to add to my MP3
Yeah Dave , sounds awesome Foo Fighters and you guys always spreading love and the sound.
This was one of my moms favorite songs. Since she passed I love listening to the FF version because they are my favorite band.
This song takes me back to a specific memory when Napster first came available and a friend was trying find the original version to this song and tried to explain the guitar solo to us. Someone even called their uncle and he just asked us if we were high and why were calling him so late at night wondering about the name of a song (we probably were)
Finally, I remembered the Foo Fighters cover after listening to it on a local rock station and blurted out" Backer Street" and he finally was able to find and download the song.
Kids today have no idea about the luxury of listening to any song at any given time without worrying about "pirating music".
I love both versions. I am glad the Foo Fighters were true enough to the original to keep it melodic but original enough to do their own thing
Anyone notice how he said give up the crack instead of the booz like the original?
