It's not on the album. Its on one of the singles (which we had back then) along with "dear lover". It's just a thumbnail of "the color and shape" album.
I got this song on a bonus disc when I bought the main album in the mid nineties. I was a kid from West Auckland... it was the best first album I could've bought.
I’m in my car on a CA desert highway and the throttle is floored. Incredible doom is just ahead and I can’t wait to get there. That’s how I hear this song. Great cover.
Was ripping CDs from my radio station's library when I came across the entire foo fighters discography. Downloaded it and gave it a listen. Forever will remember how confused I was to find this track in my personal library a bit later. How is it that collectively, we all love this cover, but consistently forget about it's existence?
My favorite Foo Fighters track. Brilliant and incredible. Dave - you are the genius I always believed you were. Bravo! Formula One cars should fly through the air with this song playing.
I hope someday when people look back they say...yeah Foo fighters we're just awesome. I mean years of great original rock and the covers. Dave g is simply awesome
"I love the sax" but the 'guitar' is a beautiful sound coming forth. The vocals really smooth and most delightful....can understand the lyrics always a ++++ for me. Thanks for posting. 4:00 some chilling sounds flowing into my headphones turned way way UP. ;-) Love the Foo Fighters sound. This tune is most delicious to my spirit. ;-)
It couldn't sound like the original. Foo Fighters were a 90's band and I'm impressed with this, particularly giving up the crack and the one night stands.
It took me awhile to develop an ear for the Foo Fighters, but I am really getting hooked - a very impressive band with a great sound and very respectful of different styles and other artists, which I think is so cool...
I discovered this version on Napster, which was really good for finding little gems like this that I otherwise wouldn't have known about. But, ohhhh no! That wasn't good enough for Lars.
@@jravell ...and this is what started the destruction of the music business. Spotify currently pays .03 cents per live stream. Can you blame Lars and the others for wanting to get paid for their work? No sober person works for free. And you, thankfully, know that.
I really like this cover. The atmosphere of the music seems a distance away, it is like a dome, or a graffitti that is made on the street walls as the main character of the songlyrics is walking home. ... ... ... ...
this track was on the 1997 austalian tour edition, which featured the cover artwork with the colours reversed (grey background, blue lines) and came with the bonus tracks 'drive me wild', 'requiem' and 'dear lover'......then it disappeared and was re-released with the '07 version of 'the colour and the shape'
You know something after all this time? I would get both versions of this song. I love in this way. Listen to the original version when meditating and preparing for your goals. And listen to the second during your progress and the completion of your goals..... I like them both
There's been a lot of recent remakes of classic hits lately. This was the first that I can think of in the late 90s. One of my favs is Godsmack's Sully on a grand piano covering Metallica's Nothing Else Matters.
I love this because all the saccharine flavour of the original that makes it “oh so 80s” is gone. It’s a great song with the proper dose of grunge upcycling.
I had a yellow AM transistor radio that used a 9 volt Eveready battery. Used fall asleep listening to music like this and kill the battery. Mom would yell at me for wasting money on the batteries. The good ole days.
Mexican_ _Joker_Guerrero hard to believe 94.5 used to play such awesome music, but its true! Lots of Greenday and Kurt on that station too in those glorious days of rock...who would have known they were so glorious
Used to hear this on 106.7 WXVO back in the late 90's. Then it moved over to 98.7 for a few years before Dick Broadcasting flipped the staton over to smooth jazz.
This was the first song Taylor Hawkins recorded with the foo fighters, and its the first time the foo fighters as we know them played on tape. Rest In Peace, Taylor.
I've got a Cd from my brother n law of the foo's with Baker Street on it called My Hero (Uk CD single) but it's not on The Colour and Shape, just had a look at it
good cover version of the jerry raferty .under cover classic.guitar work is remarkable.foo fighters never dissapoints.Like the base line together with the leAD GUITAR.
One of my fav songs from the 70's. Loved the guitar solo at the end but wasn't fond of the guitar at the beginning... At first, I thought was some weird synthesizer. Freaked me out for a bit.
How the hell did I not know this existed till now. It's a cover of one of my favorite songs, by my favorite band, on *my favorite album*.
sagjig2 guess you shoulda listened to the whole album
It's not on the album. Its on one of the singles (which we had back then) along with "dear lover". It's just a thumbnail of "the color and shape" album.
i believe it also was on the japanese version of this album.. not sure but kickass cover song anyway 🤘
They had some copyright problems...it wasnt available for awhile...but they evidently sorted it out...thank God. Best cover ever made.
I got this song on a bonus disc when I bought the main album in the mid nineties.
I was a kid from West Auckland... it was the best first album I could've bought.
Pretty cool. When Gerry Rafferty wrote the song originally the famous sax line was a guitar line. Cool to hear it in that form even if it's a cover.
SuperStrik9 you can hear the original form. They released the original demo of Baker Street, with Rafferty playing the solo on guitar
This is the best version *I've* heard of *"Baker Street"* since Gerry Rafferty's own version. :)
Indeed
Its the only version there is
While its good it aint as good as the original !
If you haven't listened to Gerry Rafferty's version of *"Baker Street"*, check it out. It's a masterpiece!
Jason Carpp yes ! When it came out I was 14 and it gave me goosebumps ! Later it matched my life lol
I’m in my car on a CA desert highway and the throttle is floored. Incredible doom is just ahead and I can’t wait to get there. That’s how I hear this song. Great cover.
U and i both brothet
Best. Cover. Ever
Disagree !
that's what I love about the Foo's. They can take a timeless classic song like this and in some ways, make it better.
Did. They’re not doing that much now.
What's this way better stuff ?
It's a strong effort, but not in the same class !
Never have I ever heard a cover that has brought me back for 7+ years
those guitars are so raw, i love it
Was ripping CDs from my radio station's library when I came across the entire foo fighters discography. Downloaded it and gave it a listen. Forever will remember how confused I was to find this track in my personal library a bit later. How is it that collectively, we all love this cover, but consistently forget about it's existence?
This cover just made my life today...thx foos! I needed that!🙌😊🤘
My favorite Foo Fighters track. Brilliant and incredible. Dave - you are the genius I always believed you were. Bravo!
Formula One cars should fly through the air with this song playing.
Now that's a fantastic cover.
I hope someday when people look back they say...yeah Foo fighters we're just awesome. I mean years of great original rock and the covers. Dave g is simply awesome
I could listen to this riff on loop for eternity
Ikr? Especially that rhythm guitar, that big sound. It's huge!
This tune is most delicious to my spirit. ;-)
I remember taping this off the radio and listening to this on my walkman mix i made
It couldn't sound like the original. Foo Fighters were a 90's band and I'm impressed with this, particularly giving up the crack and the one night stands.
Brendon Bookman glad that I never had.
"Crack" didn't exist in 1971. That's when the original Gerry Rafferty song became popular.
Covering this song improved my already sky-high opinion of the Fighters of FOO! What a great song to hear redone by such music talent!!!
Wow, this is a GREAT cover. Way to go, Dave.
Got goosebumps and damn near swooned hearing this cover! I mean, Dave Grohl & Foo Fighters hit this out of the fucking Universe!!!
The Foo's can do nothing wrong in my book! Awesom, Awesome Cover!!
Awsome just Awsome this band can play just about anything RIP Tayor.
R.i.p taylor hawkins gone to soon.
It took me awhile to develop an ear for the Foo Fighters, but I am really getting hooked - a very impressive band with a great sound and very respectful of different styles and other artists, which I think is so cool...
I wish this song made my friends come back to life.
🫁
Never stop living 🤘 they’d want you to enjoy life
This is awesome
I discovered this version on Napster, which was really good for finding little gems like this that I otherwise wouldn't have known about. But, ohhhh no! That wasn't good enough for Lars.
Damnit Lars!
Didn't Lars explain himself well enough?
@@jravell ...and this is what started the destruction of the music business. Spotify currently pays .03 cents per live stream. Can you blame Lars and the others for wanting to get paid for their work? No sober person works for free. And you, thankfully, know that.
The Foos have pretty good taste in covers, that's for sure.
I would love to hear this live! What a great version of this awesome song!
Not available on the streaming services.
This song is EPIC - ⚡️⚡️
Just continuously creating hit song after hit song...the soundtrack to our lives folks. W/Foo Fighter flare thanks David G..4 another reason to smile
The best cover of all time
I really like this cover.
The atmosphere of the music seems a distance away, it is like a dome, or a graffitti that is made on the street walls as the main character of the songlyrics is walking home.
... ... ... ...
at the end of a tunnel is how it sounds to me, I agree
That guitar solo. Damn
I bought the deluxe album in 2023 just to get this one song because it's not available anywhere else. Obnoxious, but necessary
it sounds like they were just jamming and realized it was great
How the best songs came to be :)
this track was on the 1997 austalian tour edition, which featured the cover artwork with the colours reversed (grey background, blue lines) and came with the bonus tracks 'drive me wild', 'requiem' and 'dear lover'......then it disappeared and was re-released with the '07 version of 'the colour and the shape'
Bought this as a single in London in '97
I cry a little inside evertime I hear the original version. This one feels the same. Not surprised.
NOSTALGIA!
When was this on the album well now I'm happy
You know something after all this time? I would get both versions of this song. I love in this way. Listen to the original version when meditating and preparing for your goals. And listen to the second during your progress and the completion of your goals..... I like them both
This is a great cover!
Sweet cover.Gave an already great track a harder ballsy edge
Excellent remake of an excellent song.
I thought I wasn't going to like this version, but it was pretty good.
Pshhh best cover ever
Unreal
i hope it's the only cover
I’m dying, this will be my funeral song.
Now wanting this at mine too!
I why can't I buy or find this anywhere?
esta cancion es muy linda! gracias por compartirla! :)
if you want the sax, LISTEN TO THE ORIGINAL. They are doing their version. Nuff said.
NightbirdTributeTV i dunno, its kinda like leaving out the harmonica in a cover of Mary Jane's Last Dance
There's been a lot of recent remakes of classic hits lately. This was the first that I can think of in the late 90s. One of my favs is Godsmack's Sully on a grand piano covering Metallica's Nothing Else Matters.
Totally agree. The guitar is a greet instrument, but definitely not a replacement for the saxophone.
Either that or try to find Gerry Rafferty's demo version that he originally composed on a guitar.
I really love the ending to this song but the song is great period.
I love this because all the saccharine flavour of the original that makes it “oh so 80s” is gone. It’s a great song with the proper dose of grunge upcycling.
Was recorded in ‘77
I love the Foos version of this song. It's heavy and it slaps
These guys are it....nuff said!!!
Wonderful cover of a great song. I do like the lyric update from booze to crack.
The next person to remake this song should change crack to meth! heh!
Bwahahahahahahahaha 🤣
Hellyeah...Gerry Rafferty would be proud!
Henry Durham Amen Brother
Good song, covered by a good band. Can't go wrong.
On the actual album album it’s the B side. It’s been out since the 90s. Gets radio place in Cincinnati still too. Easily best cover song ever done.
Best concert ever
uf što su ovi dobro praštali, volim ovaj album,
Excellent Cover.. This kicks Ass!
great cover, great band
Great cover!
Good Will Hunting, Anyone?? Only the Greatest Movie Ever Made!! :)
It's also on the Australian Tour edition of the 'Colour and the Shape', from memory I think there are 3 bonus tracks I'll need to find my copy
Fuckin' Great Cover!!!
Loved the original...but I mentally married Dave Grohl when I heard this!
Nothing like a sexy dude with a guitar OWNING everything about this! ❤︎
Awesome!
Foo's are brilliant. This is what a rock group should sound like.
My musical heroes!!!
It's on a special edition of the CD, it has 6 bonus tracks (incluiding this cover)
Rocked this C.D.
Foo Fighters....🤘🤘
Great cover. .....it ranks up there with the original.
So shit how this isn't available through Spotify. They don't have the deluxe album! My most watched UA-cam vid by far!
I had a yellow AM transistor radio that used a 9 volt Eveready battery.
Used fall asleep listening to music like this and kill the battery.
Mom would yell at me for wasting money on the batteries.
The good ole days.
Amazing sound quality for a 240p video!
This takes me back to like freshman year of highschool
maybe it was eighth grade, i forget.
7th grade. Then my office job played soft rock and I heard the original. Freaking awesome.
This isn't on my version of The Colour and the Shape. :(
McSmacks It is a B-Side on the My Hero single.
I had this album and thought that I was onley crazy one..
i believe it's also on the x-files soundtrack that was put out during the show's original run if you can find it
It came on the UK version of the album
Great remake
I’ve always liked this version more than the original. Only Dave Grohl could pull this off!
I heard this song on 94.5 the buzz
Mexican_ _Joker_Guerrero hard to believe 94.5 used to play such awesome music, but its true! Lots of Greenday and Kurt on that station too in those glorious days of rock...who would have known they were so glorious
I miss the old buzz :(
Used to hear this on 106.7 WXVO back in the late 90's.
It is on the Expanded version of "The Color and The Shape" It was not on the initial release of the album :)
I've got a Cd from my brother n law of the foo's with Baker Street on it called My Hero (Uk CD single) but it's not on The Colour and Shape, just had a look at it

One of my fav songs from the 70's. Loved the guitar solo at the end but wasn't fond of the guitar at the beginning... At first, I thought was some weird synthesizer. Freaked me out for a bit.
