Yeah. Like, the 40´s german helmet. Early 40´s. Not the 45 model the NVA ended up wearing. Nothing like what the BW wears nowadays, but...well, they tried.
It could even be post-war manufacture Bundeswehr surplus as they still wore them for quite a while after 1945! In fact, a pattern of the classic WW2 helmet [with added side vent holes] was worn by West German emergency service for decades after the war.
@@paulosborne6517 I thought the mushroom-shaped new "cone head" model was only ever fielded by the romanian or bulgarian units, and the already produced stockpile ended up in the eastern part of germany and was "inherited" by the NVA, who wore it? Horribly uncomfortable). The fire brigades did wear the re-used "coal bucket" style helmets, painted white, and with an added piece of leather in the back for neck protection and a plexiglas visor, I remember very well. It took years until I realized that the iconic firebrigade helmet was really the infamous WWII Wehrmacht helmet painted over. They wore them well into the 90´s.
@@paavobergmann4920 Bundesgrenzschutz used old Wehrmacht equipment and that included the M42 Stahlhelm. The Bundeswehr went straight to the (improved) M1. That first helmet is literally a reproduction Stahlhelm. Liner and all, exact copy of the German helmet
In the western sectors, that became the BRD, an army (BW) was only reinstated in 1955, and I think i remember roundish, american-style helmets in photographs, although they did make the very first uniforms out of WW II surplus printed cloth (tents, i think.
Then with the introduction of the Gefechtshelm M92 the BGS and later Bundespolizei changed to that as well. The NVA only ever used the M45 Stahlhelm.
Fire-Brigades and THW still use the M42 model and Schuberth still produces it under the F120 or F130 number, though it seems fire brigades begin to switch to the Schuberth F220 or Rosenbauer HEROS model.
A stalhelm m40 I believe
Pov: you're witnessing Matt's slow descend into madness in every intro
1:54 Actually you can measure kintetic energy quite easily with the formula E=1/2*m*v^2. All you need is mass and velocity which with can be measured with a gun chronogram that i am assuming you have.

1:47 a 9mm 115 grain bullet travelling at 1,180 feet per second/360 meters per second produces 481 Joules of energy. the vest shown at the beginning can only withstand "24 Joules"
9mm parabellum is used as a "control" assuming that most americans will be carrying an 9mm pistol.
2:38 a 30-06 150 gr bullet @ 400 yrds produces 1,636 joules of kinetic energy.
as a general rule, military helmets are not designed to withstand even small calibre bullets. their main purpose is to protect the head of a user from fragments and debris.

When wish states that it can stop “24 joules of kinetic energy”, that means that it can (usually) only stop/weaken hand delivered threats like a knife.
Well, or maybe a modified NERF MEGA.
A 'fastball' from a base-ball pitcher has got about 140 Joules........
@@DreadX10 The punch of a middle weight boxer can exceed 300 joules, this doesn't mean that there are humans literally punching holes through tanks with their bare fists.
24 Joules of energy = about 18 foot pounds of force
24 joules is about what you get from a pellet rifle that shoots 300m/s (around 1000 feet per sec).
The reason why it passed their tests is because no one lived through the test to tell otherwise, therefore it works. :)
