Pro tip: in the future, go through the top. This should be part of a somewhat larger maintenance procedure that kills several birds at once.
Take the 10 minutes or so to remove the cowl. Remove and inspect, clean or replace the EGR. Remove the intake manifold and clean the EGR ports in it.
Remove the throttle body and clean both sides of the throttle plate.
The EGR gaskets are all reusable unless the black gaskets get chipping in the black. A fresh intake gasket and throttle body gasket are recommended.
While the intake manifold is out, the PCV is easy to access.
If any of the parts that you clean up had a lot of buildup on them? After re-assembly you’re likely to experience a smoother running engine and increased fuel economy.
That’s LuV , would love 2 meet m!bfs like uu
Good videos glad to see you did the follow up didn't look like you had it overfilled that much.
After 5k miles, the oil was virtually at the same level, so the PCV did resolve my issue.
@@dcfgarage Thats good though.
The PCV valve is the most ignored component in car maintenance. I always replace them every 30K miles on all my cars. It's a cheap part and for most cars it's an easy fix.
Ahmad Ghosheh I couldn’t agree more
@@dcfgarage how has it held up after the follow up?
@@jonderrick25 changed the oil again at 5k miles and it had the same oil level from 5k miles ago. So this basically resolved the oil consumption this my car
An Easy fix? no for this one.
My pcv is original with 150k miles,I always put the entire 5 quarts in and it gets to the full mark by my 5k mile oci. That comes quickly with a minimum of 150 miles a day city or more on with the night highway routes.
Absolutely love my 2012 camry se 2.5L, but she's low ecery oil change. Looks like a new pcv valve is in order! Time for a transmission filter drain/fill, brake bleeding, coolent flush, spark plugs, rotor and brakes, ac top off, lower control arms, sway bar links, altimator check, interior shampoo and deep clean, all at 150k. Caught the stutter issue in time and got the torque converter changed at 74k on the recall 1k short of the cut-off ! Oh and the dreaded front bumper bars that holds the sides in need to be replaced 😅
Thanks for the follow up!
I just bought my 2013 CamryLe(4cylinder) and was wondering where Toyota put the PCV valve. Now I know, thanks to your channel. I know this engine doesn't burn oil. I also owned a 09 Camry Le and it used oil, 3qts between oil changes. Not good. I used " restore" , and this helped some, along with SeaFoam ( 4ozs) in the oil about 500 miles before the oil change, and the rest of the bottle in the gas tank. This help some. I traded it in and bought my 2013, and this one doesn't use any oil. And the ABS control module works. In my 09 the ABS control module stopped working, so the A/C , odometer wouldn't work because everything is integrated through the control module, this also caused the car to fail the smog check,so there for you can't register the car in California, unless it is fixed. And the unit cost over 2,100.00 to replace. A expensive repair job. Easier to just trade it in for a newer Camry that doesn't have these problems.
Thanks Ray
@@dcfgarage >>> Do you know how long it took you to replace the PCV valve?
@@raymathews7035 It took me two hours including filming.
@@dcfgarage />>> And I remember when it took me 20minutes to do this...I wonder if one could reroute the PCV valve to the top of the engine, where it should be. It is always good to just replace it at every tune up...Maybe once a year, perhaps?
..
@@raymathews7035 I was wondering the same thing
Excellent job
Tomorrow I'll try to change the pcv by myself 😇 I hope I can do it smoothly
Let me know how it goes!
@@dcfgarage unfortunately I couldn't open the pcv valve 😔 I tried for three hours but I couldn't. My hand was big and the place is very small. I gave up and returned everything.
@@SilentHeartx I'm sorry to hear that. A lot of times fixing something in the engine means you have to reach in places you can't see and feel by hand. You need to have patience and take a step back and figure out a different way to solve that problem. I hope you don't give up working on your own car.
The PCV valve can easily be cleaned. But nothing wrong with installing a new one.
True
I replaced mine at 109k. Call me weird but i felt like the car ran a little better after. The old one still rattled and seemed fine too! I don't know though. Maybe it was just a placebo effect. Lol
Hi, Just checking if the car is still consuming some oil? (Since, I assume that you were able to change the oil a couple times).
Completely resolved for me
thanks so much bro. If I replace this valve, will the idling vibration be solved?
I don't think so
There is nothing wrong with this PCV. As long as it opens up it's good.
and I also measured the oil level at 5k and it was still good.
Not true they stick because the gunk builds up inside
@@anguslean4058Not true what?? I never said that these valves can't go bad. I simply stated that the PCV that he replaced was working as it was designed.
@@mikek.9980 the get sticky oil residue inside
Even though you hear it clicking it still sticks
@@anguslean4058 Not true!
How were you able to remove the hose. I can't get mine off
Pull with the strength of a thousand camels
lol!
Just like Angus said... just yank it
Where you able to get it off? I have a 2017 Camry and can't get it off... I tried pulling hard... I failed
I found a comment somewhere about this job where they said removing it from the intake first before trying to remove it from the valve side. I particularly found that helpful. I feel like my hand strength is pretty good and i still struggled until i did it that way.
In the future on making Videos,,,,,,,,,,. You don't show any information on the year of the Camry .......🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔
On purpose. So I get questions like this
How often should you replace the pcv valve?
On normal conditions, 100k miles
@@dcfgarage oof I'm at 109k! How much is a fair price to get this done,?
@@shapho4056 most shops in the US would charge around $300 to get this done
My car has rough idle and turns off ...would PVCvalve be the problem
Question, anyone who knows...
I bought a new PCV. I blew into one side horizontally (the way it is installed on my engine) and it had an air leak. Vertically, there was no air leak. I returned it and got another one, but the same issue?
Maybe my lungs are not as strong as an engine! What do I do? Order another one?
On my engine (2017 toyota camry) it is a difficult R&R.
I believe you are overthinking this. The new part is likely fine
@dcfgarage hahaha! You maybe right! I just hate to waste 1.5hrs!!
It will be replaced 4th of July weekend.
So do you measure the oil first when the car is cooled down. Then drive 2k miles or so and then measure the oil again? If too low it's burning too much??
Correct. You should be monitoring your oil level constantly. While some consumption is normal, it shouldn’t be noticeable between oil changes.
@@dcfgarage how often should I check my oil? What's a reasonable amount to see burn up?
I have 2011 Toyota camry burning oil fast...no leaking...got new oil pan not sure if I need to replace pan R Pcv
No leaking and losing oil can be bad. could be a bad head gasket. get that checked
@@77Joseph777 THANK U
Could just be bad oil piston rings if you have the 2.4 engine
@@dcfgarage That is a 2.5 but some of those are having the same issues with thee pistons rings.
My 2014 Camry LE has the PCV valve on the same spot, I just ordered the part online, can you tell me estimate how much labor it would be to replace it from a mechanic shop?
Someone made a comment below saying that they wanted to charge them $300 at the dealership to change the PCV valve. A mechanic would probably charge you half of that
I was quoted $550.
@@ToddTinley 550 for a 1hour job and $25 part is absurd
Hi. I had my PCV valve replaced in my 2013 , 2.5L Camry, it cost my $80.00 ..it is located under the engine, between the intake manifold and the timing chain cover.
@@raymathews7035 80$ cost of pcv with maintenance? Or only the cost of pcv?
How much was it burning before your repair?
1 qt for 3k miles
What does Pcv do and why need to replace it
It's called positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) valve and its purpose is to recycle combustion (to control emissions) gases that pass through the piston rings to the bottom of the engine back into the intake manifold. The PCV valve is designed to only let gases and not oil through. But sometimes, it gets gunked up and doesn't close properly or gets stuck open... and then you start getting oil into the intake and it burns with the combustion.
Where is it located,
