Can we just appreciate how adorable it is that Inertia's ears bounce when she's walking?
Yes, I have a breed with similar ears (Mini American Shepherd) and I love how cute his ears are when they bounce while on the move. 😆
My two Aussies have those adorable floppy ears. It’s even better when they run. 😂
Yes
Cute observation 🥰
Literally 😍
My dogs used to drag me around - but it was easy to train them not to. If they put any tension on the leash at all I’d just stop - and not say or do anything at all. Eventually they’d get bored and relax. As soon as they did and the tension on the leash relaxed I’d say “let’s go.” It didn’t take them long to figure out that if they wanted to keep exploring they need to make sure to never pull on the leash.
I’ve tried that, but we literally went nowhere because every time we would start walking again, he would start yanking... so we would be in the same area for like 15 minutes 🥴
@@jf9335 You just have to keep perservering unfortunately some are a bit more stubborn than others.
I tried this with my dog, and she’s way too smart for this trick.... she just ends up escaping from the harness
Omg! Mine escapes from the harness if she doesn't like training
@@jf9335us too
Can't argue at all, these are the BEST dog training series videos and trainer ever. Realistic, humane, positive, authentic, and the bits of advice along the way are freakin gems. Inertia is adorable too. Waiting for a border collie pup this winter but I just absolutely love these videos!
🤣🤣🤣
He didn't show anything. How does he expect someone to continue coming back if this is the video people come across?
“I didn’t know squirrels could sound like that.” LOL! I just found that out this Summer too😂
Zak has such positive, kind energy towards his dog - love to watch his training methods.
Same
But is getting people beat up in the streets. He should be in prison.
I'm so glad I came across your channel Zak, I've watched hours of your videos now and am ready to collect my American Akita tomorrow. You sir are amazing at what you do. Thank you Zak.
She’s so cute!!
IKR
I always allow my girl to stop and sniff unless we have somewhere to be in a hurry. She needs to read her pee mail - I think pulling them away from a sniff must be like us being stopped listening to great music, or only hearing halfway through some gossip.
This is so insightful!
This is funny and helpful 😅 thanks!
Pee mail 😂 thats a great way to put it
*Great **dogy.training** lots of helpful instructions and ideas without being dictatorial. I like this writer's style a lot and we have found it more helpful than several of the other books that we got to help train our new puppy because of the detail he goes into.*
Another excellent video Zak! Please continue with this series. Along with your books this is an incredible guide for raising/training a pup.
When we rescued a puppy and our cousin took her, this was the ONLY video we recommended. They watched all of them. It worked out great!
I’m getting a new puppy in 5 weeks and I’m so excited!! But a little nervous. a puppy seemed kind of out of my comfort zone but your videos really helped me figure out where to start! I’m feeling much more confident! Thank you for everything you do!!!
Awww!!! What kind of dog are you getting?
Olivia Faith I’m getting a Dutch shepherd!
Harley Humbert that’s a hell of a first dog... and this guy isn’t the right trainer for anyone. He’s been trying to train his dog to walk nicely on a leash for over a year. If your getting a difficult and intense dog such as that I hope this isn’t your first or forth dog and zak WILL NOT be the right trainer for you. The dog will test you. Show aggression towards food or preassure being put on it. Struggle with aggression towards dogs and strangers... seriously check out mate shoemer
@@harleyhumbert7176 any update ? How is it going
You helped me and my family train our puppy so much! Thanks!
Love this video! Years ago I found your channel and you inspired me to become a dog trainer and make videos 😁
Inertia has come so far! Thank you so much for your continued commitment to using positive reinforcement over physical corrections. Your videos have been so helpful to me and my golden retriever puppy 😊
Physical corrections are natrual... that’s the whole point of dog socialization also. How they learn boundaries
Your only problem is it seems like it’s like letting the dog be in charge. You would never let your child be in charge. They would never learn how to respect authority.
@@marlaedington6471you shouldn't hit kids either...I've used positive reinforcement with my dog and he's only 6 months and tbh the only behavior he exhibits that i cannot stand is that he won't walk right next to me on his leash but I've also slacked off on teaching him because it takes forever😩 but he's a good boy and trusts me...instead of fearing me.
Enjoying the Alaska series! Zak, could you share more details on traveling with a dog - for instance how do you prep inertia for air travels to Alaska?
You guys should update your daily routine with Inertia and talk about how it’s changed as she got older!
Yes! Please make a video for older dogs
Great to see Inertia has come a long way in her leash walking! And very cool that you exercise discretion to give her the freedom of exploring the world along the way, Zak! Oh, and love the new intro, esp. when Inertia barked beautifully on that rock after you said "this, is Inertia!" [Hugs for the beautiful Inertia]
Thank you Zak for these videos they really help a lot ❤️
I have a new puppy & I enjoy your training videos so much! I’ve been documenting my training journey here on UA-cam & I hope one day he will be as well behaved as you guys get dogs. Thanks for all your content!
I’ve learned a lot from your channel, and I just got a new puppy and he’s learning fast
I'm getting my rottweiler puppy in 11 days and your videos have helped me so much 💓
Hahahha the end with Inertia playing dead cracked me up. LOL! I wasn't expecting to see that!!!
Thanks again for such a great vlog! SO helpful!
Awesome tips for walking your dog on leash, it's very important that the leash is not a negative part of the walk. Great video Zak!
Thanks for posting helpful videos
zak, I love the new intro.
So do I!!!
This is another great video. I love your positive attitude!
I’m about to get a puppy in 2 weeks and I’m so excited and nervous at the same time. Well let’s hope your videos have trained me enough thus far
Loved this video! Very informative
This works so good
These training tricks work so well for my puppy and also zak can you do another leash walking video?
Thanks for all you do
Love the new intro skits! 💜 ur series!!!
omg this is the perfect video!! my golden retriever puppy paisley is a terrible leash walker!
One routine that has really helped with our walks is every morning we take our dog on a smell walk where she gets to sniff things in the park at a meandering pace. This contrasts with walking to a particular place and helps her focus without stopping to smell everything. She knows the 2nd or 3rd or 4th walk of the day isn't a smell walk.
Who else doesn’t have a dog but watches these videos anyways?
Me
Yep
Me but I’m getting one soon
Me cause I'm getting one soon

Hi im very proud of myself because I watched one of your old videos and copied and I was able to train my dog to go in his bed in under 30 seconds 😅
This video is so helpful!! Thank you so much!!!!
I was needing this encouragement for leash training :)
Thank you for this video 😁
This was very helpful. I like the idea of the hybrid walk, I know the walk is for both of us so my dog still can sniff a little bit and still check in. Thank you!!
Hi I’m might get a American bulldog and Zak has helped me train my other 2 dogs
Inertia is becoming pretty well-behaved! I have a maltese named Angel and she is very curious on walks. However, I am implementing some techniques you've shown and she is getting better!
You’re the best at this!
Leash walking is definitely quite tough to teach your dog, so, thanks for the video Zak❤️
Actually it’s pretty simple... it’s not rocket science
@@justagirlandherdogs615 Well, it was quite easy for me when I got my first dog but now that I have two little puppies, it's quite hard
Puppy Love I get 3 month old puppies off leash heeling in a week or so. This guy is a trick trainer and has no real skill outside of that
@@justagirlandherdogs615 You might be really talented then, huh! Anyways, I totally respect the guy who has been a dog trainer since 16 years. For not only me but many others, Zak is amazing......
Puppy Love know a guy who has been training for 20 years and can’t train shit and is abusive. So years really mean nothing. It’s skill. I haven’t been training for nearly as long but I have skill.years don’t matter if he can’t back it up so Th proof. He’s been trying to train ONE dog to walk on a leash nicely for about a year now! I only follow him for his trick training
I don’t have a dog but I’m am planning to get a puppy soon but these videos are really good!!
Solid Gold is such a great dog food
Thank youuuu!!!!!!!! I wanted to teach my doggo to walk!♡♡♡
Thank you Zak!!!!!! I am probably gonna train him later today! Thanks again!!!!♡♡♡♡
I love you! I love this channel we just got a new puppy and this series has helped so much
Which breed is it
Thanks zak
Early! Love your channel!
Zak, the new Intro, the Alaskan Edition is great. The bark at the end is perfect. She is doing so well in the training!
Also how is she doing with the agility?
See, my dog walks VERY slowly and stops every second to sniff a blade a grass for a couple minutes. It generally takes about 25 minutes to get up and down our small street with about 6 houses.
You’re a good dog owner for allowing them to sniff - it’s sooo good for them even though it’s kind of boring for us. I think sniffing tires them out more than a straightforward walk
Sadie D Yeah for sure. I get so impatient sometimes but I know how stimulating and healthy it is for her 😁😂
Same. Is yours part Basset hound by any chance?
ChyloeReece Nope, she's a maltipoo
Go and look up balence training and don't watch this Zak idiot🙄
Never Miss Your Video
Zak’s approach has changed my whole view of dog training. Calm and understanding of the reasons why a dog may not have success! Love the vids
Best one ever❤️
I have never had an issue training a dog on leash until my current puppies who are CRAZEEEE. They won't take treats outside, I can exercise them for hours and it doesn't matter, we're training 3-4 times a day just to get them bored of the neighborhood so they stop pulling. Neither of them is a "walk with a person" breed, but their recall sucks so off leash isn't happening... Even I'm frustrated! Lol
I feel u! My dog also has leash aggression with bigger dogs now. He gets insane. Having a lot of issues
Many dogs does not take treats because they are too excited. Mine does get the treats but she does not care much about them... She wants to always look in front of me and in case that she has to protect me... I did not wanted a bodyguard... But my dog walks way better than inertia.
Joseph Arroyo Zambia cannot help you with leash aggression. He’s better at teaching tricks and basic obedience
Try training at a distance where your dog still eats treats. And sloooowly shorten the distance. Just a tip that worked for us. Good luck! 🐾
@@pihlasdfg few dogs are actually not interested to take a treat, they are more interested to toys or they feel happy when you say good boy and smile. My dog will do anything to make me smile, when she was a pup she would never pick a treat, but when she understanded that taking a treat made me happy, she started to take them to communicate with me, so treats are not always the way to train a dog and for few dogs they are not even important.
Did you have to go thru Canada to get to Alaska?
Using this video today to help my 1 year old golden... already see that this is going to take a while 🤣
After watching this video I learned that I might have been a little to harsh on my pup. Thank you 🙏
Love the new intro and she’s gotten so much bigger!
your channel is such a blessing, thank you so much for your help!
I love your vids!
Thanks man just got my lab puppy you are what helps me train my dog better
You made this much easier
Wow! You have a lot of likes and barley have dislikes! keep up the good work!!!! ^^
George ,I'm learning
I love that you have a nice and empathetic approach to dog training... This is so much better than some other channels i've seen that encourage basically physically punishing your dog by tugging or even drfiting away from you during walks... Not gonna mention names but i got actually disgusted when i heard "you need to make the dog yelp so they can learn"
Love the new intro xD
yo best you tuber uploaded again ;)
Zak can you please do an episode on using head collars/halters? Especially when on walks.
you right there mister have a beautiful dog
Inertia is so much fun to watch! Have a great time in Alaska. Watch out for porcupines though!!!!! My brother and i were camping and the dogs had gone to do their morning business. Suddenly we heard some barking and thought there might be a bear near by. Poor Yama (Husky) came back to the tent and had quills all over his muzzle. We were hours away from civilization, but we managed to hike and eventually drive to get some cell reception. We drove 5 hours back to Anchorage so he could get them removed.
Love this 😀
that is such a good pup and beautiful
i almost called my dog Inertia thanks for the videos very helpful 👍
Hi zac! Love the channel! I hope when you were driving to alaska through canada, you were being safe and socially distant as to prevent the spread of covid
WHERE and how to get the" excess energy out" i walk my dog TO get the energy out. I don't have fields for them to run in.
Great video Zak. Your methods have worked so well for our pup. What harness do you use for Inertia?
Amazing
Hi Zak, my dog is a rescue and is around 7 years old. The previous owner seems to have taught him nothing. He has developed issues like resource guarding and tugging on the leash. Can you do a video where you “teach and old dog new tricks” like teaching them to sit and stay, and also how to deal with resource guarding?
Wow nice vid I am getting a dog soon nice info
I have trained my dog by watching your classes
And this training concept works with small toy breed dogs as well. Thanks!!
This training concept doesn’t work at all...
What! You were in Alaska! Dang, I missed a chance to see you in person.
There are two types of dog walking. The "heal" walk and the "adventure" walk. The heal walk is very formal. You set the pace and the dog stays at your side. The other is the adventure walk. Here the dog is free to stop and sniff, and resumes the walk when he wants. Many dogs can transition from heal to adventure easily.
One way to make the transition easier is to heal on the sidewalk and adventure when off-sidewalk.
Been watching for just over a year, started watching the day I got my puppy ( who is now a year old)
Your video is making me feel better about my walks with my mini Aussie. I have been using what I learned from your video and my walk looks very similar to how you are with Inertia. My dog is about 2 years old now. I still wonder when my dog will be able to walk like Indie. Will he ever get there ??? Please continue to update on how Inertia is doing with loose leash walking.
Check out kikopups videos for leash walking
I’ve always felt the same way about harnesses
Beautiful and interesting video.
Now I gotta keep an eye out for Zak in Alaska to help me with my puppy 👀
I wish I could be this patient with my dog I always feel myself getting very frustrated when on walk and then I feel very guilty when I get home because I know he dosen’t know better
Could you do some puppy haul videos i find those super interesting
How are there already 16 comments when he just posted!
because he is a legend and everyone loves him (and inertia)

My 6 month old border collie pup started off being THE BEST dog to walk on a leash then a few weeks ago something flipped in his head and he’s started barking and lunging at people, cars & dogs. I hope these tips help!
My collie is pretty good at this for the most part. The "snoot ensnaring golden blade of grass" is still a problem but not as much as it used to be.
I’m finding your videos really helpfully with the training of my 13 weeks puppy!
This is my 3rd dog, but the first time training him by my self!
What do you think about the gentle leader vs the harnes?
i got a husky puppy almost a week ago, and she’s 3 months old. her leash walking skills are... not the most charming aha. she’s getting better, but she gets so overly curious and even gets overwhelmingly hyper and starts pulling hardcore😅however, she does listen most of the time for when i call for her, but if there’s a huge distraction, she stops and refuses to leave for a minute or two.
It's been a year but Zack still says Inertia is his new dog
Still is his new, newest dog until he gets another...
Is been a year and she still struggles with leash walking...
@@justagirlandherdogs615 u cant expect a 5 year old kid to study chemistry
Ashar B. What?
@@justagirlandherdogs615 i meant that inertia is still young give her some time amd im sure we all will get to see the results, there is no magic afterall 😁
Tysm!
Hey Zak! What kind of harness is Inertia wearing in this video? Our pups dislike too many points of contact and that harness looks effective, while maximizing the dogs ability to move.
