The concert was at a time when you had MTV merch but the song was originally done in 1975. It was a blend of country and rock so you could truly hear it every where from the high school dance to the sale barn cafe and not many people objected to it.
I remember when the album came out. Charlie Daniels was just getting some air play and used to hitch rides with these guys to shows . Couldn’t imagine being on the bus with these guys and Charlie and the CDB . Britt give Long haired country boy by Charlie Daniels Band a listen. I promise you will get a kick out of that. And it is a perfect southern rock song.
The original Marshall Tucker band split in the mid 80's. The original lead guitarist who wrote most their songs & sang on Can't You See was Vietnam Veteran Toy Caldwell. His brother Tommy was also a founding member, but died in 80 of a head injury. Basically, they were finished by then. Anything after this is just not the real article. Toy passed in 1993.
They were so great live. Back in the day they were everywhere down South and we took full advantage. They were part of my teen years and I will be forever grateful. Now you need to dive into some Wet Willie, Grits Ain’t Groceries. 🤟🏼
You would LOVE their song Searchin’ For A Rainbow (so would everyone else!!!).👍🏼😁 The line you couldn’t get was, “Now my widow she weeps by my grave, Tears flow free for her man she couldn’t save, Shot down in cold blood by a gun that carried fame, All for a useless and no good worthless claim.” He was part of the Gold Rush and a claim jumper shot and killed him to steal his claim (which was a piece of land that they staked out to dig for gold.
The story I heard was Toy got the inspiration while he was a Marine in Vietnam. Hearing all the Dear John letters his company's guys were getting while they were there. A note, he was wounded in the leg and they shipped him to a base hospital. They were going to ship him home, but he snuck out and returned to his company and completed his tour. I think, like others that were in Vietnam, came back with what we know as PTSD. I think he had been self-medicating until he eventually died of a cocains overdose, My dad went to Vietnam 3 times and he drank and drank as his self medication of choice.
Another one of those legendary southern rock groups that came out right after the Allman Brothers Band and about the same time that Lynyrd Skynyrd was making their name. Saw them in 1983 in Fayettville, N.C when I was stationed at Ft. Bragg. They were the opening act for the Charlie Daniels Band and both put on a fantastic show. Charlie Daniels came out and played the fiddle with Marshall Tucker on Can't You See, which was their last song of the night. Both bands put on outstanding shows that night.
"Now my widow, she weeps by my grave. Tears flow free for her man, she couldn't save. Shot down in cold blood by a gun that carried fame. All for the sake of a no good worthless claim (gold claim)"
Now my widow weeps by My grave". Cool tunes! Send them a handful of times in Illinois, play always put a good show on. The unlived version is worth a listen.
I was lucky enough to see these guys around 1980 they toured with Charlie Daniels and The Outlaws. I'm from Jacksonville FL the home of Southern Rock...
One of the coolest songs ever. Not the best singers or the best instrumentals just well put together by talented musicians. These guys were great! Nice reaction kiddo.
This is from their 1975 album SEARCHIN' FOR RAINBOW and that title track was also a hit - the theme is the California Gold Rush. I tell everyone to listen to the title track from their second album A NEW LIFE (1974), as well as TAKE THE HIGHWAY from their self titled debut album (1973).
They are from Spartanburg SC, and I actually live in Spartanburg county. I heard on the radio, that they are going to be in Greenville SC in the near future, so they are still performing in concert these days.
Britt is All-star! Such ability to so kindly respond to so many genres! That is so multi lingual and demonstrates love of music. Dewayne already said in a comment, but Heard It In A Love Song is seemingly written for many of us. Great song. Personally, it is hard to best Skynard's Simple Man. Best to All!
Give the studio version a listen as well. It sounds wonderful. The song was from the 70's, this is just a later performance. Widow weeps by my grave...
This performance was in the 80's, but it was originally done in the 70's. A lot of their live performances do not really show them at their best musically. Studio recordings were really great !
Britt! This is a song all about a family from the Carolinas (Where Marshall Tucker is from) selling everything, and heading West to California in the Gold Rush of 1849! Like many of the "49-ers" they arrive, file a "Claim" on a piece of land to dig for gold... only to be seduced by the rowdy sin of the Boomtowns... until a "Gun of Fame" shoots down our songwriter for his "Worthless, no-good claim" leaving his widow to "Weep beside my grave" at his passing.
Marshall tucker is a great band being born in the carolinas they were a staple in my home as a kid also you should check out the highway men - the highway men featuring Johnny cash chris Kristopherson willie nelson and waylon jennings
The country rock album that is my favorite has a long title and group name. It’s “The Adventures of Panama Red” by the New Riders of the Purple Sage. Every song is great and a classic.
Toy Caldwell died in the 90's. He's playing pedal steel guitat in this video. Many of their songs really sound ad if they are riding horse or are in a stagecoach. Doug Gray is the lead singer. I love his voice.
This was a fun reaction as always, but I wouldn’t call this the greatest southern rock song ever by any means. Not even the best MTB song, in my opinion. The best MTB song, in my opinion, is probably Heard It In a Love Song. Best southern rock song, imo, is Gimme Three Steps by Lynyrd Skynyrd. That song is particularly cool to hear live. It’s based on a true story, too. 🙂
Parts of South Carolina are a little bit behind, so that's why it feels like the '70s even though it's later. Good Southern Rock; hard to pick the "best", Skynrd, Allman Brothers, I'd put the Eagles in there, Creedence Clearwater Revival. Lots of good stuff.
"Now my widow she weeps by my grave, tears flow free for her man she couldn't save ..." That is what he was singing that you couldn't make out Britt. The album version is much better than this live performance, where they did not balance out the instruments properly or clearly in the audio mix. Live recordings could be a hit and miss affair, and some still are, especially the musicianship where they may have been imbibing freely of who knows what before the concert.
Give this one a try: ua-cam.com/video/0uMWbZj-gWg/v-deo.htmlsi=qR-puJAAyg8x0cYq Much better audio. That live version you are enjoying doesn't give the power behind the vocals, or the clarity of the instruments.

Music was sooo awesome in the 70's.
u could dig it lol
Marshall Tucker Band. " 24 hours at a time." Great song, feel good music.
This song is so dope. The lyrics tell a story short sweet and sad.
The original Marshall Tucker band split in the mid 80's. The original lead guitarist who wrote most their songs & sang on Can't You See was Vietnam Veteran Toy Caldwell. Seems that’s what I said four months ago. Great pickup!!! 👍🏼😁
Jerry Eubanks' flute solo always sends chills down my back.
You are so cool😊. You always do such great and authentic reactions. My favorite by far!
Love that you cover so many genres. Check out Pure Prairie League. Some great tunes in their discography.

I know several Vietnam vets. Blessings to your dad and thanks for his service. Those men were put between a rock and a hard place.
Thx Britt! The very first song I learned to play on guitar. Still play it. Special place in my heart for this band.
Fire on the mountain album released 1975, so you were right Britt.
Southern woman and desert skies are two great songs from Marshall Tucker they were a really awesome band

@GBeret83, Thank you for your service! From Sophia, N.C.

Yes it is!
"Now my widow, she weeps by my grave. Tears flow free for her man, she couldn't save. Shot down in cold blood by a gun that carried fame. All for the sake of a no good worthless claim (gold claim)"
That song is like a free history lesson.
This is great Southern Rock ❤
Now my widow weeps by My grave". Cool tunes! Send them a handful of times in Illinois, play always put a good show on. The unlived version is worth a listen.
The best as far as I'm concerned!
Great reaction, Britt! Marshall Tucker, The Outlaws, and Lynyrd Skynyrd are my three favorite southern rock bands.
If you're eyes itching you got an infection! Seriously this song is from the 70's. Love them
One of the favorites of my youth.v

Highway Song
Again, musical enjoyment - a good find. Flute, steelguitar and togetherness of making music …

Personally, it is hard to best Skynard's Simple Man. Best to All!
U R so correct Britt ! This the western side of southern rock and country/western .

When your eyes itch, it means you're "looking for love in all the wrong places".
I think something else itches when you're looking for love in the wrong places. And, yes, you should get that checked.
Yes. Ever heard a band sound like a ride on a freight train?
Late 70's
Cattle drive, long hard ride. Electric banjo.
Check out "Heard in in a Love Song" another great song.
I like this cover of a John Denver song probably because the singer has a deeper voice
I would love to see you react to vince gill's go rest huigh on that mountain official music video.
The bluegrass cover by Iron Horse is great
Hey Britt, luv ya !!!! How bout give a listen to Goodbye To You, by Scandal. Lead singer Patty Smythe went on to marry John McEnroe the tennis star.

You really should do your research before you speak. The MTV comment followed by the Longevity of the band. Shame
