- This was the catalyst for sending me down a rabbit hole on UA-cam that will play out in the next two videos. How come nobody mentions THE MARSHALL TUCKER BAND?! Rock fluting aside, this gem needs to get some more love! There was plenty of love heading in the direction of the bands frontman!😂Thanks for watching!

Love these guys. Especially when they were new. Living through the 60's and 70's was extremely fabulous. I wouldn't change anything. The best time for music ever.
GREAT music!
Toy Caldwell on vocals and guitar 🎸 r I p. He was also a decorated marine that served in Vietnam 🫡
RIP
NO DISRESPECT TO TOY BUT EVERYONE GOT A MEDEL IN VN. I KNOW BECAUSE I WAS THERE TOO
@@ronhunt9396 Any medal on a man's chest was earned. Please don't diminish anyone's service. The guys I was with were amazing and deserved much more than a medal. By th' way, Welcome Home Brother. 589th Combat Engineers Song Pha, RVN 1970.
@@ronhunt9396 Did you get a purple heart. I think everyone got one a service medal, but you don't soun
I think he got shot in Nam
Toy lost both his younger brothers within a month of each other to car accidents. He was also a United States Marine Corps Vietnam War combat vet (WIA). That's him singing with incredible soul and thumbpicking that beautiful Gibson Les Paul. Thank you for everything brother. Rest easy.
Thanks for watching!
Toy Caldwell.
Singer, songwriter, guitarist etc….
And yeah, pretty boy,
But-also marine and vet who planted the root for pure southern rock.
Marshall Tucker was a great band.
❤️
Great reaction guys! Along with Lynyrd Skynyrd, Marshall Tucker is one of my favorite southern rock groups. Of course, The Outlaws were also fantastic.
Thanks! Lynyrd Skynyrd has some bangers too!
Toy Caldwell "The fastest thumb in the South" vocals/lead guitar. Brother Tommy on bass. Jerry Eubanks flute. George McCorkle rhythm guitar. Paul Riddle drums. Doug Gray, on the end playing tambourine, most often sang lead vocals. MTB was one of my favorite Southern Rock bands. Their blend of genres into Southern Rock was unique. I highly recommend their album "Carolina Dreams".
I saw them in '77, I was 17 at the time. One of the best bands ever, this song to me is a standard like many from the time I have dancing in my head.
Top five rock & roll song of alltime! Beautiful...
Thanks for watching!
Marshall Tucker This was live at The Grand Opera House at Mercer University Macon GA. I have seen them countless times live too. Been so close at the stage LOL felt Toys spit. Sad, he died on cocaine ingestion in 1993. I am a Southern boy born and raised. BTW I love y'all
they are from right here in Spartanburg SC - they are commonly referred to as "The Home Team" around these parts, I live about two miles from where Toy passed, sad day
RIP 😞
Beautiful music, they don't make music like that anymore. I grew up listening to them and Skynyrd in high school. Loved your reaction.
I was so lucky to have grown up listening to this band along with Silver Bullet band and BTO and some others. Grew up in the SE Alaskan Commercial Fishing industry and this music was as much a part of the experience as anything else. Good people, Hard work and hard play.
Hell yeah!
The Caldwell brothers were from Moore South Carolina about 30 miles from where I live, and I have always had kin living in Moore, and would ride by an old two story brick school house that they used to rehearse in and recorded some of their songs in back in the early 70's. I remember hearing on the radio years ago back in the 70's also of Toy Caldwell being interviewed and he mentioned the old Schoolhouse that they turned into a recording studio. He also told the story of how they got their band name on an old interview he was doing on the Bobby Bare Show and Bobby ask him how they got the name Marshall Tucker Band and ask if there, "is a real Marshall Tucker?" Toy said, "yea, he was a blind man that tunes pianos in Spartanburg and one night about a week before the Marshall Tucker band was formed, we had a gig and we didn't have a name for our band. " He went on to say that they rented a place from Marshall Tucker to practice and on the keychain was the name, "Marshall Tucker" He said, that name for the band was, "As good as any. And that was the name of the band." Critics, told the band that a flute in a Southern Rock Band won't work, but they tried it out and that became their trademark. That flute gave a lot of their songs a very unique sound that caught on and is classic to hear to this day. Also if you noticed toy picking his lead guitar with his thumb instead of a pic. Very rare.
Thanks for watching!
As a early 60's baby these guys are legends
Thanks for commenting!🤘
GREAT SONG
This song is on the list of songs to be played at my funeral 😇🫶🙏💖❤️🔥
It’s THAT good!
Southern Rock at it's finest
Thanks for watching!
Toy and Tommy Caldwell played with their thumbs. Good old Southern Rock music!!
❤️
Marshall Tucker band, what a great group with many great tunes. Back in the day they were kind of like Pablo Cruz or Fire Fall, groups that had great songs and great talent but might’ve gone under the radar for people. I feel so fortunate to have graduated high school in the early 70s. Now, I get a kick out of watching people get turned on to these classics. I enjoyed your review!
Thanks for the kind words!
You'll should do.heard it in a love song and fire on the mountain by marshall tucker
Thanks for the suggestions!
The Internet *loves* The Marshall Tucker Band!
Thanks for watching and commenting!
This is one of those songs that are fun to play & everyone (almost) knows. It's just D>C>G and repeat. So many songs do this, Sweet Child O Mine for example. This one though, so good 😎
Thanks for watching!
We all have heard of them...dude real men don’t wear T’s like that...iconic band! We love the old school!
Great song and I know it well.
Thanks for watching!
You guys need to do 'Wiping Post' by the Allam Brothers
My main biographical song. With MTB bringing a flute into the mix they made it cool just like Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull did, or how Kansas had the violin. These guys were a powerhouse in the 70's and are still influential to many of today's musicians. Check out their "Fire on the Mountain" for another rockin' song.
This video was recorded at the grand old opery
Anything from the 60,70, or 80 please (more Rush?)
Cheerz !!!
Stay tuned! Thanks for watching!
AC/DC Whole Lotta Rosie at the River Plate! Love Marshall Tucker!
Really cool dress your wearing.
❤️
The Allman Brothers Whipping Post or midnight Rambler
Thanks for the suggestion!
Actually there is a colored version of this video on youtube
I am new to your channel but have loved the few videos I’ve seen. If you guys want to hear great blues rock guitar check out the video Rory Gallagher Shadow Play live 1979. Top 5 guitar players easily but not many people have heard of him. He has some great songs.
Thank you for the kind words!
Toy was beautiful both inside and out. An underrated guitarist. I love the grit in his voice. Here's my favorite song from Marshall Tucker Band, with Toy on lead vocals and showing us his chops on guitar:

This one time at band camp...........
NOT where I was going!
Old bands get the most hits.
Thanks for watching!
Oh, don't worry, there wasn't even close to a minute where you weren't talking. The MTB is considered southern rock, and are one of the more well-known groups, along with Lynyrd Skynyrd and the Allman Brothers.
Thanks for watching!
Can't You See is even better
Forgot to add that there was no one in the band named Marshall Tucker just like no one named Jethro Tull. Later y'all
Thanks!
Ya wants some flute listen to Jethro Tulls live My God.Ya won't be disappointed. Jim
Thanks for watching!
Toy Caldwell died in 1993
RIP
Dude... she's weird??? Uh huh... "Buttery goodness"??? Dude, your the weird one. Just sayin. I have been on the music scene for a long, long minute, or two and I'm here to say that good looking is good looking. Whether it's in the 1970's or today. Duh. On the bright side this was an excellent band/song on which to react. Cool to see young people discovering our music. Shoutout from this old, longhaired, hippy, rocker dude in East Tennessee. Good luck with your channel. Mean it. Go with God. Peace.
😂 Thanks
Old is best. 60-85
Thanks for watching!
Don’t stop doing old bands
The old bands play real music, unlike today's crap which is not music but robotic cr p.
He can sing, play guitar, and was a vet. Real man not like today's little band boys
👍
Somewhat off topic you said you like rabbit holes two words Angelina Jordan inescapable rabbit hole...
Thanks!
Old bands, classic rock, are the best! Pink Floyd, Beatles, Zeppelin etc. Too many to name. What they call music today is a joke!
Thanks for watching!
OMG PLEASE STOP TALKING
How about NOOOO! -Dr. Evil
Well, being in front of the camera would be essentially useless if we did that. Thanks for watching!
Love your vids. But stop talking so much, ruins the music and also your reactions. Just sayin
Copy that. You don’t want us to react in our reaction videos.👍
Great tune Eddie !!! Good pick . Play some Marshall Tucker ya crazy &%$
....Or Ron Burgundy
@@chrisf2253 ...... lol ..... just about spit my gulp of water across the room.
Uh oh. Some of our viewers are detectives!😉
Six months before this video was shot, Toy Caldwell (guitar and vocals) was knee deep in a rice paddy in Vietnam. Greatest thumb in rock and roll.
Not quite. He was in Vietnam in 1968 but this song didn't come out until 1973.
Toy Caldwell the lead guitar and vocals on this is 1 of the most underrated guitar players ever
Thanks for watching!
Yes, he is!
Are you Kidding? MTB? MORE! Them and The Allman Brothers Band were the preeminent southern rock bands of the 70s. Dive in head first. Lots of great live stuff out there.
Thanks for watching!
Did you listen and understand the lyrics?
my favorite marshall tucker band song is "heard it in a love song". i wore that 8-track out.
Thanks for watching!
One of my favorite songs of all time.
AWESOME GROUP AND SONG. I REMEMBER THEM WELL BECAUSE I'M 74YEARS OLD. THE FLUTE WAS PERFECT FOR THIS SONG
Thanks for watching!
Love Marshall Tucker, saw them 7 times, black and white was purely a choice in 73
Heartthrob City!
Just saw Marshall Tucker in concert about a month ago in Cincinnati. They were still kicking it... only person still alive was the lead singer.
He is not the only one still living but he is the only one that was an original member of MTB. I’m pretty sure Paul Riddle and Jerry Eubanks are still living.
loved this song my whole life..........
Thanks for watching!
Don't be so blind of some of the greatest songs ever written, you will never hear music like this ever.
Im 62 and to this day had I been able to be in band, it would have been The Marshall Tucker Band or The Doobie Brothers.
Solid choices!
Omg that bull ring looks horrible
Know of them? I was born in 69' just 1.5hrs up the interstate from MTB's hometown of Spartanburg S.C. I practically grew up on their music.
Awesome! Thanks for watching!
Kayla, you'll flip out. Can see in color..." Marshall Tucker Band - Saturday Night in Macon." It's the 2nd song. Also Believe or not, Toy was not considered a heart throb. He was good looking, I agree. He would laugh to know someone thought him a heart throb, didn't think of himself that way. He was a good 'ol boy, drove a black 4x4 ,who could still walk down the street and people said "Hey, Toy". I grew up not far from where they did. Knew him. They grew up in upstate Soth Carolina in Spartanburg. Watched him play with local band and he was more or less "just Toy". Toy was not the frontman, the guy with long hair Doug Gray was the singer. Other guy on his other side playing bass, Tommy was his brother. Toy lost both his brothers, Tim & Tommy to auto accidents within a couple of weeks in1980. He had been in Marines, in Vietnan, purple heart, came home started MTB. He is also deceased. Full Military honors. Miss him so much. HIs wonderful playing ability is famous for that day. Hope you enjoyed info. I love MTB the original band and still love them.
Thanks for watching!
This is one of the greatest sad songs
These guys are amazing live.
Looked like it!
You guys talk way too much. Listen to the piece uninterrupted and then run your mouths..I had to bail...
Maybe you would enjoy just watching the music video then, as that is what you are telling us to do on our REACTION channel. 🤷🏻♂️
They are still active. Going to see them in Fresno in September with 38 Special and Molly Hatchet. Great band
Thanks for watching!
If you like and raspy voice,Molly Hatchet is a great choice.
Thanks for the tip!
Next reaction VOB "SABOTAGE -Beastie BOYS cover VOB BAND TRIO HIJABERS from 🇮🇩 VOB LIVE at TAIWAN.PASIWALI FESTIVAL 2022👍 VOB AMAZING fantastic 👍
So sad to say Dickey Betts of The Alman Brothers died of cancer April 18. Please play The Allman Brothers Band - Ramblin' Man - 1/16/1982 - University Of Florida Bandshell. Sorry it is 480p. but this song I drove my car outside of Chatham VA. It would find country roads to see natures beauty. I had this song playing loudly. I had a great sound system in my car, Yes I shed some tears today of his loss.
Please react to "Farewell Song" by Big Brother and the Holding Company featuring Janis Joplin from the album "Live at Winterland '68"
Molly Hatchet!!!!!!!
Thanks for watching!
Toy Caldwell kicks ass! Saw them twice first time in '79 or '80! Great southern rock/country rock!
I'm an early Gen-X and I grew up with this song on the radio in my region. I really love this particular video of them playing this song live. They performed just as well as they did on the studio version, but you get to see the musicianship and technique. Back in the day live music venues, concerts, festivals were special interactions between the musicians and the audiences, not to mention that due to the late invention of social media and the internet, live performances were one of the only options to see the band apart from rare appearances on programs like The Midnight Special. (Check out The Midnight Special 's UA-cam channel for lots of older live performances to react to.)
I'm sorry, but the best music was from the last century. The 70's and the 80's were the best.
She can but you shouldn’t be pausing in the middle of the song
I think most any dude that gets his heart smashed should listen to this song. It kinda says it all.
Laughing like two brainless schoolgirls
Southern Rock at it's best, I was raised on this music!!
❤️
We love marshall tucker band
Southern Rock nothing like it
I saw MTB in concert several years ago at the California state fair and they were awesome. Here are some other southern rock bands.. Lynyrd Skynyrd, 38 special, Molly hatchet, zz top, outlaws just to name a few
Thanks for watching!
First MTB is not an old band, they are a classic band 👍 MTB is the epitome of the genres SOUTHERN. ROCK. 👍🍀
Thanks for watching!
Remember Marshall Tucker well. Was a senior in high school when this song came out. 70's and 80's had the best music.
It was something else!😉
Not a band I ever enjoyed, except for this particular song which is brilliant. The balance of their music I found far too much country style which is not a genre I listen to, but cannot deny the talent of many country artists. Its simply a personal preference for blues and rock.
Thanks for watching and commenting!❤️
If you go down the Southern Rock rabbit hole, the Allman Bros are a must. Whipping g Post Studio version first
Thanks for watching!
Notice Toy's picking... he uses his thumb... as fast as most guys use their fingers.
Thanks for watching and commenting!
This song toy wrote it because his fellow soldiers kept getting dear John letters and he felt there pain so the song is about his pals in nam.
Thanks for the knowledge!
That’s Toy Caldwell on lead vocals and guitar. His brother was in the band then, too.
Thanks for watching and commenting!❤️
Toy was another great musician who left us way too soon. R.I.P. stand down soldier
❤️🫶🏼❤️
This song and your wallpaper was popular at the same time......
Thanks for watching and commenting!

That’s friggin awesome!
Im not bothering to watch this if theyre just gonna keep stopping it to chatter
Thanks for the comment!🫶🏼
70s is the best era for Rock / Southern Rock, in my opinion.
