  • Crib Goch is one of 8 routes up to the summit of Mount Snowdon, the highest peak in Wales at 1,085m. The route has been described as "one of the finest ridge walks in Britain", but it is not for the fainthearted.
In this video I take on Crib Goch for the first time, solo, in the cloud and mist. It was a challenging experience on more than one level as I fought to deal with my mental health on the way. But in truth, it was a groundbreaking experience. I had the skills and abilities to more than comfortably see myself over the ridge, and in the process, I learnt some powerful life lessons.
If you have been inspired to take on Crib Goch, please ensure you are adequately kitted out (and know how to use that gear), have previous experience on steep and rocky terrain, and checked the weather forecast before you go to ensure safe conditions.

We are in awe of your strength, resilience, determination and attitude. Well done. We are an older couple from Australia who have walked 10 of your national trails, and climbed all the 2,000 ft and above in England and Wales - except Pillar Rock in the Lake District. That was beyond me. We are homing in on 70 years old, so have to be careful. I hate that this Covid virus has stopped our annual travel to the UK and beyond - but we must all be patient. You have allowed us to walk and climb with you. Thank you so much. You are fast becoming a 'legend'. Love from D &D , Victoria, Australia XX

What an amazing woman you are, thank you for sharing. The metaphor that you used comparing the climb to overcoming issues of mental health was truly inspiring. Well done you deserve all the accolades. I wish you every success and happiness in life. I’m sure you can only get stronger.

Abbie, I know it is hard to respond to so many messages - But I felt compelled to tell you that this video (watched on a friends Huge 60" TV!!) Meant a lot to me - and I know exactly how you feel - Last year I overcame my fear of heights to do the Striding Edge Hike to Helvellyn. I do know that that is just a breeze in comparison to Crib Gogh, but the feeling of elation - reflection once completed is wonderful. To the point as I stood on the summit of Helvellyn I made some life-changing decisions. But I had never felt so true to myself and everyone around me. Powerful stuff - and your emotions on this video struck many cords with myself. Truly brilliant video, so thank you.

This video is insane, well done for putting everything into your journey on Crib Goch. I think what you conquer in this video is something so many turn to the mountains and hills for and is just a great reflection of the impact being in these parts of the world can have on any individual. You were really rewarded for your true courage mentally and physically that day. Congratulations.

I want to give you a hug. Thank you so much for sharing so much of yourself in this video. You are amazing. You summed up perfectly how so many of us feel every day. Next time you feel lost or alone, know that that is the time when you are LEAST alone. You made me feel less alone today. Keep doing You! You are a warrior and such a nice person. 🙌🏻🫡😊🏔️This is going to sound odd and I’d probably hate anyone I know to read this, but if there are people on this planet that are angels then I believe you’re one of them - You could have done all that without a camera in your hand and been an amazing person but you made it 10x harder for yourself just so you could help others too, share your journey and connect with people who have struggled. Helping yourself is brilliant but helping others at the same time is above and beyond. You truly deserve peace and happiness. ✌🏻🤘🏻

Iv done crib goch between 15 to 20 times with different people and on my own on glorious summer days and on beautiful winter days caked in snow and ice .each emotion that you’ve just described I experienced exactly the same the one big difference is when I’m not alone I don’t get scared or hesitate in trusting my ability but on my own I go through mental assault courses..thanks for sharing your crib goch experience and good luck for all your future adventures..miles and smiles is the order of any hill day …your determination to use your camera was interesting on its own well done

I love the Snowdon Mountain range from Pyg Track, Watkin Path, and Crib Goch in both directions. Been up Snowdon at least 7 times, and one time in 1998 i had a terrible fall descending to the Watkin Path from the top, fell 60foot and almost went over the edge. But i still love the place and I certainly have grown to respect the mountains and the environment. Crib Goch was my first introduction to the climb and I learned quickly that preparation is key. Good video keep them going.

Abbie watching you walk along Crib Goch filled me with horror and yet admiration for you. No way could I ever do that ! Your camera made it look even more terrifying!! Not for me or my partner Andy. We watched with awe. Mind to you the views were breath taking. What a wonderful world we live in!! We love your documentaries and they inspire us both to get out there. We walked along the Limestone Pavement in the Dales last year and the York Moors. We didn't manage to see the Three Peaks, as it was very low cloud, but next time!!! We have climbed Golden Cap and walked through Dorset and Wiltshire and Glastonbury Tor. We have climbed the South Downs and walked part of the South Downs way. We live in Hampshire. We visit the Isle of Wight, as friends live there. New Forest too and we do a lot of Night Walking in the Forest with friends magical!!. Cotswolds is also a favourite place too. Have you ever thought of Bodmin Moor, as it is beautiful. Tintagel is beautiful too and loved your walk there. One place I have noticed you have not been to or maybe wrong, is The Preseli Hills in Pembrokeshire. They are beautiful and you can see the Bluestones, that were used for the Inner Circle at Stonehenge. Also there is a Burial Chamber called Pentre Ifan worth a visit. Also the Pembrokeshire Coast Paths, which I walked as a child. We have passed the Brecon Beacons on numerous occasion, as I lived in Wales for a period of time, so Pen y Fan, Sugar Loaf and hopefully Snowdonia are on the cards next year and hopefully Offas Dyke. Thank you for inspiration and even with my Fibromyalgia I still get out there!!! Oh yes!!! Malvern Hills too... love them and the Hillfort. There are many places I have walked in the UK and France, well Normandy and Suisse Normandy Hills, as they look like a minature version of the Swiss Alps. Your a real inspiration Abbie.

You are so brave and strong to confront your fears head-on like this. I love the little pep talks and self-encouragements you gave yourself on the climb up. Much love!
