Green looks very fitting for the graceful lines of your hull. If you like it that’s all that matters. Don’t let silly superstitions cloud your judgement. You really are an inspiration, keep up the good work and thanks for the videos.
The great question is the price "sine die ". What it could be after all this work, exchange of parts for new ones, etc...etc...? At the end it could be less expensive to buy one, less old, in a better state. The question is open ? Of course it's a question. I presume you have studed it, with the pleasure of working on your own boat.❤😅😅😅😂😂🎉 Anyway, congratulations. 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Green was supposed to be unlucky because a long time ago, drinkable water was stocked in barrels painted in green The green paint contained plumb which poisoned the crew. So green is supposed to be unlucky. Another idea is that clergymen were poisoned for a boat. The reason why is that the crew didn't want them to report what they did in other ports whith attractive women.
The Quartermaster* Great job bringing her back to life! I'm for cream. More traditional and nautical. Either way, she'll look great when she's back in the water! Keep the videos coming!
hello matey ,I bought an Elizabethan 29 from a place on the deben and the first time we, me and a friend ,took her out it was up the Stour about as far as you could go at low water , we took to walking thro' the corn fields , this was a lovely summers day , and came out on a road opposite a pub called the 3 brothers I think ,great Sunday roast , what a fabulous day. My mate knows the stour well because he was at Shotley and believe it or not was a button boy ! he remembers rowing the boat in the morning with the coxain bellowing and I believe they learnt to sail it as well about your boat ,I would love to be younger ,I would do what you are doing and get a good wooden boat , great job you are doing
Ah man, great story! That does sound a day to remember - Simple and unexpected are very often the best, and most memorable :) Yes, the Stour is a beautiful river, particularly on a lovely summers day! - And yes, i am loving what i'm doing, restoring a wooden boat - it's a real pleasure. Can't wait until i'm sailing her along the Stour! Cheers :))
Don’t repaint her! Leave the green this year, and another coat or two and if you still think it needs changing do that next winter! She looks great, a real turn around, just get the boat in the water!
Beautiful job. I like the green. I had a 27’ sail boat and painted the topside the same green, with a shark white antifouling bottom and bright white water line. The decks and cabin top were painted bright white too. I recommend keeping the green but when you repaint the bottom try the shark white.
Boat looks fabulous. & I have not heard of any green superstitions in all my travels. & have seen many beautiful boats with green livery. Nice work and love to see any old boat getting TLC and being restored
You're obviously a bloody good amatuer or a tradesman painter you did exactly what I would have done she looks good a credit to ya cheers n beers Marty Australia nice to see someone cutting in
Ah cheers Marty Australia appreciate the compliment! :) Yeah, i'm a tradesman painter so done a fair bit of that 'cutting in' ! Thanks noticing though! 😁
I owned a 62 Pearson Ariel that I restored and I painted its hull above the water line in that blue color that Ted Turner used on one of his boats that won a big race a few years back. It was gorgeous and one of the prettiest sailboats I've ever seen. You'd have to check...it was a light blue I seem to remember with a little green in it....I'm colorblind so I can't tell but it should be easy to find. Beautiful job by the way.
👍👌👏 Oh WOW, simply fantastic! What a great colour you have chosen. I love nearly anything that is green and this special colour (between frog, apple and grass green) looks simply amazing on a boat. Good to save a beautiful boat ,thanks for sharing. Greetings from beautiful tropical paradise island Kauai, Hawaii. I am hopping for you guys works well bring a classic design sailnoat. ⛵️
When I worked overhauling yachts, we used paint rollers instead of paint brushes.. Rollers saved us sooo muh time and energy. The reason why people started saying Green is an unlucky colour goes back to fast water boating when the water turned green. Boats with a green hull would not be so easy to see. You are in open waters. Green is no more unlucky than blue or grey or beige. Its all down to cultural history and people's paranoias at the time. Keep the Green! Many thousands of boats have this colour and it suits them!
Yes, i wanted the 'traditional' brushed look - i did pretty quickly get the roller out in the end though! - and layed off (tipped) with a brush. As you say, sooo much quicker! And thanks for the comment on the Green - that's interesting! Cheers!
I thought green being an unlucky colour for a boat was very widely known, but in my view complete bunkum ! I’m not at all superstitious : if you like it green, keep it green - I just don’t think green ever suits the lines of an elegant yacht. That said, I’m thoroughly enjoying your videos while working on my 1959 Folkboat, conventionally white over blue 👍
Ah thank you! - And yes, once i'd heard it said to me i'd assumed it would be commonly know. From the comments appears not to be so! Appreciate your opinion and all the best with your Folkboat!
I had a Marcon Mouldings Javelin 30 in the 1990s, it was in a beautiful dark green gelcoat finish. Never had any "bad luck" that I can remember with that. Hope you stick with the green.
This is great! One video I've seen where you are talking about what is needed to be done and with what materials. Rather than talking about yourself or your wife and why you're doing this...like so many other videos (mostly American). So thanks!
Really nice project. Nice to see how the refurbishment is progressing. Well captured on video too. Only don't make the boat green, that brings bad luck. My compliments.
There seems to be an anti Green color in Britain, British Racing Green is frowned upon because a racer (forgot his name) had a horrific accident while driving a car with that color...SUPERSTICIOUS ?
I think the colour green being unlucky for boats is an old belief. As I understand it old mariners thought the colour green related to mould which would destroy their ships. The other belief was that green, being the colour of the land , was the fear of running aground. If you’re not superstitious paint it the colour you like.😁
Of course green is ok, plus she looks fantastic. As for bad luck, ignore this old sailors tale. Our Sydney Harbour ferries are all green and cream since the late 1800's and have millions of safe kilometres travelled.
To be honest I don’t like the color, but if you like it Rock it!! You should do what you like 🤟 it’s your boat and you should be proud of your hard work 🥰 greetings from Denmark 🇩🇰

Sold my green one, bought brown and cant say that it needs less work :D Try erasing this saying of your head and do what ever is beautiful to you. Green/brown wood remainds me racing car with a wooden steering wheel. Nice.
Ah, there you go! , and yes - i'd heard that about cars as well. It's all nonsense but i must say i seem to be subconsciously always keeping an eye out for other Green boats lol! 🤷♂️
I think the green works. Maybe a white pin stripe to compliment and complete it. Symbolic it will also break the green (and hopefully the myth) as well. Good luck.
Yes, a few people said that - even in the yard when i painted her. I'll probably change the colour to cream next year as she gets very hot being green - and also hard to see her! Cheers!
You’re doing a fantastic job! 👍 I don’t like the green myself but it’s not my boat so it doesn’t matter 😂 I’m not one for superstitions but my parents are and are very superstitious about green for some reason? Supposedly brings bad luck.
The boat you got you're inspiration from was British racing green, the pea green you used just isn't right, it reminds me of the nursary rhyme, both the green and red are far too dark for such a small boat.. However, the yellow undercoat you used looked surprisingly good though..
Yeah, a couple of the guys on the yard said the same thing about the undercoat. And yes, you are also right about the inspiration colour being a British Racing Green, I tried something by adding yellow which, yeah, not convinced worked! I'll be looking at it.... Cheers!
Hi, yes I did check all of the hulls structure. It was actually in good shape, which is why I took on the project- although it wouldn’t have remained so for too much longer! I was still a little concerned when putting her in the water , but thankfully all went well :) cheers
Take my hat off to all your hard work. I did think green was considered unlucky for a boat but my father had a Robert Clark boat called Robin, (red). The only other boat built to that design was Gleam, (green) so perhaps its an old wifes tail.
Haha yeah, i seem to be! It's because i want to go sailing! :)) And yes, sandblasting, i imagine, would be too aggressive - even if i were stripping back to bare timber. Plus i don't have one! (I'm sure if i had i would at least have 'given it a look'!) Cheers!

Green is beautiful on boats I live near the Gozzard factory many of their custom yachts are done in green and looks fabulous! One of the famous C&C racers was named Evergreen with a beautiful green hull! Your green hull is a winner!!!!!
Ah brilliant! Thank you very much. I had a look at 'evergreen' and she looks great. I love the late 70's early 80's orange stripe along her! :) Cheers!
Cheers Dan! - I've also got a bus that needs painting, and i've gotten (most) of the welding done... That'll have to wait until next year (poor ol' girl!) - although i can use her so it's fine, just not very stylish! 😂 . Good luck with yours, i absolutely love going camping in her! :))
I personally like the color. Ask yourself are you keeping the boat for yourself or is it to be sold shortly after the rescue restoration. If you are going to sell her just paint the topsides white. The other reason green will go chalky in about 5 years. I have a French blue painted (spayed polyurethane) and it lasted well for 15 years, now needing a cut and polish. Cheers mate.
Good point. No, she won't be sold immediately, Maybe once Susanna is finished completely next season or so. I can always re-paint her then so ultimately no big deal i suppose... And it's good to know about Green going 'Chalky' - i know red cars tend to but didn't think about Green... Cheers!
Aaaah, so nice to find another uk boat Reno project channel 😂🎉❤🙌 although I haven’t yet got around to editing videos for here yet, just short summary here and there over on insta 😂 good luck with the renovations further.
It was once considered unlucky as it was the color of mold spores that ate the hulls of ancient boats and was therefore harder to see and remove, but it's also been associated with land and some sailors believe that may cause a boat to run aground. Titanic was painted green but I wouldn't worry.
English and their colors, very special. nice to see you bring an old boat back to life again.
Indeed... :) Cheers!

:) Cheers!
How many green boats do you see when you are out sailing?
Yeah, not many to be fair - but i do see a few....
LANCIA WON _ALL_ those championships with red/green livery of a similar tone!
I'll take that and tell the ol' boys in the yard, cheers!
@@savingsusanna I've got a bus that'll need paint _IF_ I ever get the welding done - that's some seriously skillful brushwork you've done there!
Cheers Dan! - I've also got a bus that needs painting, and i've gotten (most) of the welding done... That'll have to wait until next year (poor ol' girl!) - although i can use her so it's fine, just not very stylish! 😂 . Good luck with yours, i absolutely love going camping in her! :))
green is a great color for boats! Don't belive what people say!
The Green looks fantastic.
Thank you & for the 'vote for Green' :)
Haha cheers! :))
