Thanks for watching! We are now preparing for the Northwest Passage this summer, sailing from Alaska to Greenland! I've just finished the project webpage: www.alluringarctic.com/ . The page will get updated as we go along. I will of course also be making a video series of the preparations and the passage itself. So stay tuned and bookmark the page to keep updated! :)

My fiance and I lived on a 27ft sailboat and for a while it was very cold. We would have snow on our boat and iced up portholes. We wore lots of layers, had a nice down bag to sleep in, took bucket showers, and drank instant coffee as well. Not that we did it for nearly as long as you guys have but it gave me such an appreciation for what you guys do and I find it awesome. Although I'm not a big fan of the cold myself, I find the lifestyle you guys have so fascinating and you're one of the main sailing channels I watch most frequently. ❤️
You to are an absolutely adorable couple and have created a beautiful home on the water. I think that the space is perfect, homey and functional all at the same time. May it provide the two of you years of memories. Never apologize for a little bit of clutter…. It’s just a sign of a full life. Thank you showing us your world. Sending you both love and respect from Idaho, USA 🥰🥰🥰
I have read that there is such.a thing as piracy on the passage. Is there room for a local as guard and guide? The boat (and the two of you!) are looking great!
I lived on a narrowboat in England for 13 years. started off with a reflex diesel stove just like that one. Altough It had a backboler for hot water. Frankly they're a pain in posterior to clean when they invetabley soot up. Best decision I made was fitting a woodburner as well. The dry heat really helps with condensation. issues.
I love hearing from you and watching your stories! You both are a good example of conservation, cleanliness, and order without which living happily in such a small space would be very difficult. Thanks for sharing this part of your lives with us. Murry from Salmon, Idaho.
Would love a video that focuses on provisioning, the kitchen, what is there now, what is working, what you have planned for the future, what you do for food storage, the length of time you provision for, what provisioning looks like in AK (where do you shop? will you use online purchases?), how you're thinking about provisioning for your Northwest Passage trip (will you go into Anchorage?). Thanks!
Get yourself some big round granite rocks from the beach and set them on your Reflek heater. It’ll keep your feet warm for hours. Bring it to bed and it will last all night!!
Your comment of “the whole boat is a frig” is hilarious. Brought flashbacks of the unheated attic I used as a bedroom during my college days in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. Thanks for the interesting tour.
WOW 😮 Your boat looks great & so cozy😊 You two did a fantastic job on the rebuild & no one would think the before & after shots are the same boat. Enjoy your next sail. 👍🏻🙋🏼♀️🇺🇸
Great tour of your life on board! I'm most impressed by your running dialogue and how you handle the camera by keeping it stationary while going down the hall for a better space perspective. And how you handle all your needs. I'd pretty much do it exactly the same... except for the instant coffee : )
You've done an excellent job enhancing the design for cold weather sailing, providing precisely what is necessary to sustain research work and activities in extremely remote and harsh conditions.
I love the both of you BUT, you should always have a current chart and kee3p it updated for the time WEN the GPS will fail for some reason. I suggest have them laminated and used as a desk top. Just a suggetion from an old navigator.
Great video! What a difference from when we saw you in the yard in Napa. I is so delightful and encouraging to see you making your plans come alive. Thank you! Namaste.🙏
Great low-key tour! Your style is much appreciated as I have watched so many boat tours for work doing translation and voice-over. The change a pace is a breath of fresh air. Thank you for sharing, and I look forward to your series on the NW passage.
I love that you are living a life that supports your passions for winter sports and not the same old same old of tropical scenery. I lean in to cool climates as well.
This brings a whole new level to the concept of "going to work with you spouse" - I also find it remarkable how good their English is - Bravo, good luck on your adventure and God bless.
Nice use of an Alpenglow light. We installed one over our galley about 15 years ago. Red/white switched, and Very High Quality. As our old light fixtures age, we will be adding some more Alpenglow lights..
My husband and I are wintering on our boat in Georian Bay. You have an amazing space! We look forward to your videos. Thanks from SV Misty Shores!! You are both amazing.
Sohvi and Juho: I remember your episode, inspecting Lumi in Napa, California and thought, "my goodness, I wonder who designed this spacious 44ft sailboat"? You both have turned her into a picture of function and one of a tidy, cozy Alaskan hideaway on the water. We love the carpet Sohvi designed on the cabin floor, the diesel heat, the galley arrangement, etc.. The aft dining room area with all the seating or Sohvi's space is awesome, truly a lovely area for inviting friends or relaxing with a good book. We haven't heard from you for a while and were concerned that the Alaskan winters had taken their toll. Wishing you a safe and beautiful passage through the Northwest Passage. Before Valdez opened up the Pipeline, Exxon ran an icebreaker bow Tanker through this passage, studying the feasibility of crude oil transport. I happened to have been the Third Mate on this passage and later ran the Valdez to Long Beach run with ARCO Marine, Inc.. We can't wait for your coming episodes and want to thank you both again for making us welcome in your cozy and comfortable Home.
Hi David. Can you tell me which model exactly is this sailboat? As I can read it is a 44ft.I felt in love with the interior design and I would like to look for one similar.Regards.Dimitri
Very interesting how you guys organized your belongings in tight quarters. It certainly can be challenging to find items buried other things. Thanks for sharing. I like it!
Hi. As a non-sailor I'm a real fan of your northern sailing adventures. Absolutely fantastic photography of the Alaskan scenery, definitely the best sailing channel I've watched.
Lumi sure has come a long way from the time you purchased her to your current tour video. This is one amazing boat and a big step up from Sylvia and Antartika (we won't mention the other boat that had a short span in your travels). I really like the layout of this sailing yacht and how you remodeled it. Thanks for sharing the tour Sohvi and Juho.
The "livingroom" area is super generous with space, I love the couch for 10 people! That is so cool to have on a boat. I know that LUMI is 44 foot, but still very nice interior design. I immediately imagined a wide drawer, when you mentioned the chart table with usless space.
Awesome...I'm in North Carolina, and realize my fiberglass boat is high maintenance.... your videos inspired me to eventually get an aluminum hull sailing vessel as It is low maintenance.... Godspeed....and be safe
Felt boot liners (Sorrels etc) make wonderful winter slippers. Roomy, they'll trap air inside and not crush your wool socks. Where will you put the sauna?
Looks loverly and Cosy. Have you seen the Chefs Crocks? They have a better non slip under surface, they are dark underneath and so not mark the deck.they are definitely better at preventing slips etc,
Thank you for the tour of your boat. I like the covered cockpit as a place to change out of wet gear. The diesel stove looks warm and cozy but the hot water bottles are the best!! Thank you for all you do to share winter adventures in Alaska. I live near Seattle Washington USA.
I love you little plugs for Finland, (: never knew that is where fiskar scissors originated. Also if you are enjoying instant coffee, do not try fresh ground. Like most things once you sample the better alternative, it is hard to enjoy the other and then you will have to add more items to the boat. winter toys/gear take up alot of room, no way around it.
Didn’t know that Finland made these quality tools, scissors and loppers to name but a few. You come from an amazing stock of humans- very cerebral and great engineering type dreamers and planners. That explains your methodical nature toward problem solving. Thanks for the tour. Be safe and hope you have time for a bit more flying on skis!!! No bears!!!
I'm not Finnish (I'm British) but there was a time when I worked for a Finnish company. They used to joke that Finnish people are just like Germans but without the sense of humour 😀
I absolutly love how the seating is at the stern of the boat and how the table covers the engine giving you 360 degrees of access to the engine when you remove it. This is why I keep asking who your boat is built by....when I'm ready to buy my own boat I would like to find one with the stern salon like yours.
I bet that winter seems to last forever on that small of a boat. Young people can put up with a lot of things that older folks wouldn’t even consider!😊
Looks like a palace compared to the interior of our Farrier 31. Mind you we don’t have snow in Tasmania. We are about to go on a trip for two weeks to Port Davey which is in the heart of the SW World Heritage area in south west Tasmania.
Very nice interior and I do appreciate your fantastic Videos, some great adventures for the two of you. A tip on your condensation problem, I had the same on camper trailer. To fix it we put a small track on the front edge to slide a Vinyl cover into, then domed the edges to fasten it well, and had strips of 30x30mm wide foam tape stuck to the inside of the cover at approximately 250 mm spacing. It could be quickly removed and rolled up and put away when travelling to our next destination, this was winter time of course. Cheers from New Zealand
You have a very interesting sinaurio. I lived in a 27 foot boat for to years in Canada the floor was sooooo COLD. Good to see your looking strong. Lifes addictive which creates clutter// stay clean and warm Thanks for your tour Curtis...note: 7 yrs off grid 7.5x23.5 lD
Great walk through. Thanks for making this video. I'm guessing the weather has been normal and kept you pretty much captive to the boat. Yet even that is some feat and only your very well considered preparations have made it possible. I would like to comment on the notion of time: Every day, all situations, the cold, the howling winds; just you two. Keeping sane is also quite some achievement.
I grew up in the USA, but further north than about 1/3 of the population of Canada. Then I moved to the Colorado mountains, so I know what is required to safely survive in the north-country. So when you were prepping the boat in California I was concerned that you simply had insufficient room to stow everything you needed in order to maintain and operate the boat in polar wintertime, as well as carry along all of your gear for your various hobbies, and of course your filming equipment, batteries, accessories and food supplies. Then there was the matter of supplies for employment, and boat parts, tools, and emergency back-ups simply because you are often far from boat supply shops. I found myself adding it all up in my head and it made me concerned that you might be forced to make some compromises that could affect your safety. However, I noted that you very carefully chose your clothing and bedding, and got only the highest quality gear, such as the HH garments. They made real sense. If you don't have room to stow a wide variety of clothing, then get the best, garments of exceptional quality materials and construction that won't fail at the first inconvenient time, and that are adjustable for a wide variety of conditions. As I watch your day to day lives I note many of the small things and careful choices you've made to be certain that you are up to the challenges of your winter sailing environment. Yes, your boat looks 'lived in', but I know you can explain why you have every single thing on your boat, why it is where it is, and the other uses it could be put to if needed. For instance, those who don't fully understand your environment probably wonder why your sleeping bags are sitting out loose, not compressed and stuffed tightly into stuff bags. As for me, if I saw they were compressed and stuffed into bags I would wonder if you really knew what you were doing. But I'm quite certain you do, and I watch the small things you do for tips that I can use in similar circumstances. Enjoy.
Since you want sunlight and warmth, may I suggest transparent window coverings that offer additional air pockets for heat retention. We use foil covered cardboard here for great insulation in our house. Tarps covering upper deck would also add insulation.
Good luck with staying as warm as possible! It's great to get another overview of the boat and layout. E.g. I thought that the daytank was located further to the bow. I really like those older Garcia models and find it fascinating to see how you use Lumi and your individual design choices. Fair winds and Immer eine handbreit Wasser unterm Kiel! Greetings from germany 😊
5:59 if we had an office I could go there and needed to concentrate and have some peace…. 😂 here they are, just the two of them, hundreds of kilometres from the nearest town and haven’t seen another human for a week, anchored in the sea, in Alaska and the middle of Winter and they don’t have enough peace and quiet to concentrate….😂😂😂😂😂
I love the unusual layout. The giant settee area is awesome, as is the access to all sides of the motor under the table. The pilothouse and almost horizontal companionway hatch are cool as well.
That's a really unusual and spacious layout for a sailboat yacht. You have a snug living room arrangement where a rear cabin would normally be. I like it. Like open-plan liveaboard living.
Your works are just like sitting next to you! I make sure to share and like everything you do. If possible could you add to the description the year, brand, model of your vessel. Come to Texas for eclipse in April! Vr Mark
Someone tell these nice people that if they sail South/South West they could be having this conversation in sunny Hawaii. It’s much warmer, and no snow. You’re welcome. 😂
She's a beautiful boat! Thanks for the tour. I just watched a couple of your earlier videos of post-purchase..You guys have come a long way in a short time-nice work!! The boat looks like a super cozy place to be in a winter anchorage, as long as you're bundled up! I love the narrow passageway to the bow-very good for moving safely through the boat in a seaway.
Happy to see a new video on your channel. The boat is cozy and functional, that matters most. Stay warm and happy. Looking forward to new activities videos!
I seen you have carpet to protect the teak wood and keep warm. Have you thought about some insulation sheets you know that go onto windows to help keep it warmer in the coldest nights of winter.

Looking forward to seeing the transit to Greenland.

you should understand that here by now.

anyone telling them to stop just sends their minds strait into workarounds...they are not stupid, they are different intelligent...but They ARE NOT normal people.
Bucket showers on the deck. Gives a whole new meaning to "shrinkage" lol.
Wait, wait! till I warm up!
That's sisu for you... I grew up on those waters, and certainly no local would be OK with doing that.
I doubt any male Finn would find that a problem! 😲😁

Seconded! You did incredible work with her!
Most setups I see look attractive. This one looked miserable. A cold dated boat in Alaska without much space looks so undesirable.

But I'm quite certain you do, and I watch the small things you do for tips that I can use in similar circumstances. Enjoy.
Nice boat that's actually lived in. Thank you!
a woman touch always makes any space cosy warm & homely. we luv your guys home🥰thank yous from new zealand⛵🏴☠⚓
🕊🕊🕊
I have now learned: I will never live on a boat.
This was a valuable lesson. Thank you.
Your boat is fantastic, and so too is your loved one. :)
its a sailboat thing, even a 10 million pound sailing yacht the living areas are totally compromised
You guys have really created a wonderful life👍
WE LOVE THE FISKARS TOO!
Thanks
Hi Juho! We have dishwashing brushes in Alaska! We call them toilet brushes though.
hahah good to know :D Greetings to Seward!
Since you want sunlight and warmth, may I suggest transparent window coverings that offer additional air pockets for heat retention. We use foil covered cardboard here for great insulation in our house. Tarps covering upper deck would also add insulation.
Good Lad. Enjoyed. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks
Just quietly Sophie needs to stage a mutiny for the warm work spot! Good tour thanks - looks like excellent home1
Try living with my family for 5 minutes 😂😂😂
My wife walked by and was like, 😮 we should live in a Sailboat. .... I was like, have fun with the Kids 😆
I love the unusual layout. The giant settee area is awesome, as is the access to all sides of the motor under the table. The pilothouse and almost horizontal companionway hatch are cool as well.
A real coffee percolator would go well on that diesel heater…
That's a really unusual and spacious layout for a sailboat yacht. You have a snug living room arrangement where a rear cabin would normally be. I like it. Like open-plan liveaboard living.
Your works are just like sitting next to you! I make sure to share and like everything you do.
If possible could you add to the description the year, brand, model of your vessel.
Come to Texas for eclipse in April! Vr Mark
Thank you so much for sharing. I really enjoyed seeing inside your boat. I’m wondering, stay the knives on the magnatic strip while your Sailing?
Someone tell these nice people that if they sail South/South West they could be having this conversation in sunny Hawaii. It’s much warmer, and no snow. You’re welcome. 😂
She's a beautiful boat! Thanks for the tour. I just watched a couple of your earlier videos of post-purchase..You guys have come a long way in a short time-nice work!! The boat looks like a super cozy place to be in a winter anchorage, as long as you're bundled up! I love the narrow passageway to the bow-very good for moving safely through the boat in a seaway.
Good morning
Happy to see a new video on your channel. The boat is cozy and functional, that matters most. Stay warm and happy. Looking forward to new activities videos!
Thank you for the look around
I seen you have carpet to protect the teak wood and keep warm. Have you thought about some insulation sheets you know that go onto windows to help keep it warmer in the coldest nights of winter.
can't wait for 'summer', hope all those north countries show support for the Northwest Passage, think it's in your veins to do something like this
Thanks for sharing this, Juho! What an awesome living arrangement. Can't wait to follow your journey further North this summer!
So now you don’t shower
Jeez... how sad is your life?
There's always ways to clean up...
Ice baths 🛁
Sponge bath baby.
At the marinas, they usually have nice facilities.
Really interesting to get a perspective of the interior of the boat. The aft settees look a great idea.
Merci!
