Awesome work! What a undertaking and your determination paid off. You guys are earning it every step of the way. Looking forward to the future videos. Thanks for sharing the journey.
_Love your video, beautiful Sailboat indeed. My Sailboat was stolen and wrecked last year in Florida. I could not restore it back, it was too damage. I wish you guys the best! If I get another sailboat it will be a Benetau again._
LOVE LOVE LOVE seeing other brown sailors!!! Can't wait to share a sundowner with you down in US VI. If all goes well, we'll jump into the Caribbean after hurricane season and US VI is definitely an intended stop!! Love your videos and love your journey!
Wow amazing transformation. You guys really went all in on this project. We just found your channel. I will be definitely going back to see all your videos. Thanks for the amazing video.
Thank you! We used epoxy for the repairs. The boat is polyester resin and it’s recommended to use poly with poly. However epoxy on poly not the other way around can definitely be done.
Hi! We used Formica to hold the shape for our first layers of fiber glass. There’s a bit more detail in our “there’s a huge hole in our boat” episode. We don’t do step by steps cause we are NOT professionals. Hope this helps.
Rotation of cutlass bearing is shown wrong: ua-cam.com/video/9pYoG1kUvMA/v-deo.html There should be a flat inner surface at the bottom; shown is a groove at the bottom. Installed with groove at bottom will result in faster wear.
@@sailingwicked I don't know how much faster it will wear, so I'd ask around. I picked this up in a video only a short while ago and got it confirmed. The amount of details with boats is amazing/crazy.
Did you even do any hull sounding/moisture checks? And wtf is that, cutting sections out of the hull(in an already thin hull)?? Won't that mess with the structural rigidity of the hull(That's not a kayak you're patching up)? Why did you cut a whole section out? Was an entire section of fiberglass that badly compromised? Did you guys even research boat architecture before doing this or do you think boat reclamation is an entirely aesthetic thing? What's going on here? I wouldn't take this thing out for any bluewater cruising or anywhere where the seas get rough.
The section cut out was completely rotted or compromised. We could have cut 100 holes or done one solid repair. Clearly not a kayak… Tons of research was done, had someone with experience working with us and our surveyor was involved during the process. If you go back a few videos you’ll learn that she was Hurricane Damaged and we won her at auction. Putting in the work ourselves was probably the only way we would be able to afford a modern sailboat. Soooo no it’s not for aesthetics lol. Thanks for the concern
@@sailingwicked fair enough but i still wouldn't take it beyond coastal waters or at most the caribbean if you're careful about it/time it when the sea is calm - I wouldn't attempt an ocean crossing in it. On it's own terms, i can see how it might be a nice home away from home/pleasure craft for the holidays. Btw, i recommed you use a paint called CopperCoat for the hull to keep it in good condition - sea life can never get a purchase on the surface of it or penetrate it, so all you have to do is scrape it off the hull every few months with a plastic spatula and it falls off with no effort or scratching of the paint, plus should only require painting every 10 years or so. This will save you a lot of money in the long run in terms of hull maintainence.
@@jackhawthorn4799 Have a look at Sailing Dauntless and the repairs that they have done to a Leopard 50, all sanctioned by the factory's naval architect and insured! If the repairs were done with Epoxy to the factory lay-up schedule or better then that part of the hull is stronger than the rest.
We agree but we were determined to keep it until we splashed since we are a new channel and no one knows who we are or what we’re doing. Much shorter intro coming in the next vids.
Hey John! In Jamaica “Wicked” can be used as an exclamation of excitement. It’s widely used in the UK and beyond as well. No evil going on over here just good vibes and working on our dream :)
Please tell me this is a starter boat for living on and learning to sail in coastal waters, please tell me you're not planning on taking that thing cruising in rough seas...

The paint job is AWESOME... Y'all should teach a master class on it. Great job!

Amazing job indeed. I like the colors also. Keep it up Cap'n !

Als de munten er niet zijn ,moet je het zelf doen.velen zien dat als een prestatie. Maar als je iets graag wilt doe je het gewoon.
Ooo what a nice shiny paint job ...
Thanks Peggy!
2:50 I'm shocked at how thin the hull is even below the waterline...
Yea it really is. The grid is pretty robust though

Amacing job. Well done 👏

Pretty nice . I like the color. Come work on my boat . Just kidding . Who loves sanding and grinding till your hands hurt. You guys rocked it

Tremendous job! Where is this team based at?
Congrats! ♥️

I do not know the number but it is AWL GRIP Dark Grey.

Beautiful sailboat! At which auction and from which city was it purchased?
Check out HarborShoppers
So proud of you guys. I'm inspired. Can wait to join you guys on a journey out to sea.

what kind of boat is that? Where did you get it? Great job, thank you! Oceanis 37?
Hey! It’s an Oceanis 43 at auction in the USVI.
Great job!! congratulations
Thanks!!
Amazing work, i wish you and your crew fair winds and care free times. Grtz from holland
Thanks Hans! Much appreciated!
this video is nuts to watch!
It was nuts doing it with no experience 😬
Awesome work!
Thanks a lot!
It's a very nice boat. I'm surprised the owner neglected the hull like that. Either they abandoned it or they didn't know how to maintain a boat.
After it was damaged by the hurricane. I’m sure insurance wrote it off and it was salvaged. Floated on a mooring for about 3 years like that 😔
Maintenant il faut voir si la réparation va tenir dans le temps… 😬
That is the ultimate test!
Good job 😎
Thanks!
What did it take to buy the boat? If it took 8k to repair it then in my opinion it’s worth it.
We won the boat at auction. We’ll do a video in the future when the refit is complete with all the $$$$ info! Thanks for watching!
Good job, where is the paint name?
We used Awl Grip Top Coat
can you explain how to do from 3.02 to 3:11; what material??
