What was the best moment is like my children asking who I love most. It is your journey that I am interested in. No step can be removed or outpace the other. I have not seen enough episodes that I can really talk about ups and downs. Just the conquer of one hurdle after the other while you smile at each milestone. Sometimes there is a dark time when the solutions are not found within one episode. That keeps it interesting. Sometimes you solve several hurdles at once. That is rewarding and fun. Just go on like that!
in this video, when painting the exterior of the boat begins, and by the appearance of the hull, it seems that the sandblaster phase never happened, how is that possible?
Good to see the subscriber numbers coming up but you need many more! 🙂 Another positive comment for the algorithm and to say your commentary including perspective and life wisdom is my favorite thing about your videos. What a great summary of the buckets of sweat and tears you’ve both invested! Well done-even if the path has had some detours -it’s the journey after all 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Your decision to re sheet the deck is a good one, removing that amount of epoxy is soul destroying, replacing the steel will be much easier and quicker for you both, we really enjoy your updates here in the UK, look forward to your next update, good luck!
My favorite moment…a difficult ‘in the moment’ one to watch, was getting it to & into the sand blasting yard. You took me from, ‘why the H are you doing this?’, to seeing the value of reclaiming what was in order to get her sailing safely again. I’m with you now and lovin’ every episode.

My favorite episodes were the epic journey from Rio De Janeiro to Itajai, with all of the obstacles you had to overcome, and the help from your fellow UA-camrs. Looking forward to the rest of the build, and following your travels after, to Antarctica and beyond.
I have had so many setbacks in my own journey to begin this lifestyle, your story is an inspiration and empowers me to work even harder to get out on the water as soon as I can... God Bless and may every good thing come to you.
That is an epic adventure. I like every part of it but the trip from Rio to Itajai was great. I'm looking forward to see the Lahakai being reconstructed, part after part.
So funny you say that, we just saw a video online of a person who modified a bike propeller on their boat and we LOVE it! We also seen someone attach an area for rowing on the back of their boat as well. So many creative ideas! That could be part 2 of our project 😉
I've only been watching sailing channels for a year or so and want to buy my first boat in the near future. I am a complete novice. I have not seen a rebuild that extensive before and you did it yourselves. Really impressive.
So surprising you started on UA-cam so recently given the quality of the episodes. A great project, a great couple, a great boat and loving everything you are both doing! Inspiring 🙂

Hi Guys, Ultimately whether the way you are doing things is right, wrong or otherwise, is your decision to make. I always maintain just because it's wrong/right for me, doesn't mean it's wrong/right for you, so what you can do is use the negativity that some express as motivation to forge ahead. So for your supporters that give good advice, listen and then make up your own minds as to what to do. I for one am enjoying your journey, so thumbs up to you.
Thanks for sharing some of the early part of your story . You certainly went thru some hard work , some of which is Lost now. Fingers crossed it goes better now! Cheers Warren
Luke and I are both artists and graphic designers. We don’t have specific experience designing boats prior to this but we do love making things and a good challenge!
Good question! We are located in Brazil and looking for boats locally, therefore that determined a lot. Aluminum boats are not only rare here but they are very pricy. Also there is a higher chance of finding steel boats because of the proximity to Antartica where it's common to prefer steel. Thanks for asking and we are so happy you are enjoying our videos, cheers!
Nice work. Wow. Just impressive. The anchor ⚓ chain bunker could have been made by 1.4571 acid proof steel. Never gets rusty. The all boat couldn't be paid being made out of this steel. Too expensive. But possible.
Why did you want a steel or aluminum hull? If you look at Dufour and Freedom sailboats from the 80s and 90s along with European designed sailboats the use of space is amazing. They have wonderful layouts for sure. It's going to be cool to see your steel boat be new one the outside and inside and have that beautiful wood work interior. I love the classic older sailboats that have those amazing mahogany and oak etc interiors with the real teak floors. Rosewood or cedar are other woods that are beautiful. When I close my eyes I picture a custom Hinkley type of finished interior.
I was checking out videos on some of the racers sailboats in the current Golden Globe Race and one guy designed his companionway at a angle just like you have and he installed a watertight hatch or glass door so when it was nasty out he could make sure no water came down below and I thought it was a really great idea along with the mandatory watertight front bulkhead at the chain locker or wherever they decided to install it in the front. I'm one of those guys who over build and always think about the stuff that most people say not to worry about. There's nothing wrong with being over prepared and sturdy especially when your life could be at stake. Just my opinion. Which if you add several dollars to might get you a cup of coffee. Hahaha
I sure hope that people such as yourselves who are sailing or planning on sailing all over the world change how these sailing clubs are as far as its looked at like only the wealthy people are going to be doing this. I think that with all these UA-cam channels and social media people who are world travelers on a budget will force change which is a good thing. I believe some of the people in charge of places and events already see this as well because you have organizations such as the GGR which yes you are going to need either sponsorship or a decent savings account but most of them are all in and leaving on the starting date with the price of the boat included for 100k to 150k depending upon how much work they're able to do themselves and which boat they choose.
We were really wanting aluminum or steel for their safety. Since it will be our home and we will be traveling far, we wanted to have a strong hull. The extension on our hull was limited by the curve of the design, which reduced the size of the stern as you extended it out. We didn't buy it specifically to extend it, just this one had a very small cockpit and also it needed more weight in the stern because it was tipping forward in the bow so it was two birds, one stone. And we gained a storage and seating area.
I have been subscribed for a while, but, this episode just brings it all together. When you first lifted the boat out of the water I thought OMG, what have these two taken on. Now I know you are worthy of your dream - VERY best wishes from Australia.🦘🦘🦘

Not knowing what you paid for the boat, it does seem like you have replaced much of the hull - almost like building a boat from scratch. But I agree. One cannot approach it as a financial transaction with a goal of making money. I have enjoyed watching your journey and how you solve problems.
It’s a tricky calculation, there are something like labor that are way cheaper in Brazil and other things that are slightly more expensive. In the end though, our project has brought us way more positive things that would have never happened if things didn’t go wrong. Like having this channel and you following along! Welcome! Glad to have you along for our journey! This project didn’t start out as a complete rebuild, we had much different plans in the beginning. You can see in our initial episodes that we encountered a lot of issues we didn’t expect. But things are turning around now and we think we got through the worst of it 🤞😅🙏⛵️ cheers!
I think your channel is going to grow huge because your so calm presenting and it looks like your project is going to be very interesting. It is a nice watch. One piece of editing advice, the sudden loud music right after speaking and then cutting the music to speak again is annoying... try having some lite background music while speaking and raise it up a tiny bit when you aren't speaking... gentle transition. Okay and be ready for a lot of subscribers and views while doing the repair work then when you are completely finished and out sailing just having fun, the views go way down. "Odd Life Crafting" had over 200k views each video while doing the repairs and are now fighting for 50k. The whole party party party have fun scene just isn't as interesting to as many people it seems.
As someone who has rebuilt several boats (and many, many old derelict houses) for myself and many boats for other people I can truly appreciate what you are doing!

Still building the dream! 47 comes out on Sunday and every week we get a little closer to splashing 😉⛵🌊
@@lahakai If you don't mind what is the approximate cost you incurred on buying the old boat and then repairing and upgrading it?
@@dustycrophopper2743 The work continues so it’s hard to say at this point

Just found your channel that’s one sexy boat guys
Why thank you very much! 🤩 Welcome aboard! ⛵️
jsut found the channel, and like.... that's not a rebuild or a cleanup anymore, you might as well have started from scratch and built it from nothing at that point 0.o very impressive though, i'll deffo check up on more recent vids
Seems like you should have put more thought into the purchase of this particular boat!!
What happened to you I can’t find any new videos.
