1:20 Another thing to keep in mind with the destruction of Alderaan was that the Empire was trying to make a point: "We have a weapon that can destroy planets. Don't give us a reason to use it a second time."
the 501st were welcomed into the new empire and continued being soldiers. Actually most of the clones including commandos were at least four time kept actively in the military after the takeover.
The Empire would have got 'better press' had they come up with a weapon that would have destroyed all intelligent life on Alderan but left the planet intact.
Here are my points. 1. Our current day morals about human rights and democracy do not apply to a different kind of society which developed in a different way. 2. In the case of the people of Andor they were exploited by a corporate conglomerate which got tolerated and later removed by the Empire when it proved to be incompetent in serving the Empires interests. All later violence was provoked by violence against the Empire in the first place. 3. The destruction of Tarkin was more of an abuse of power by Tarkin. But Boba Fett in the novelization of Episode VI explained correctly that Alderaan undermined the ruling authority of the Galaxy and it was within the Empires authority and interest to take action. This reflects the morals of foreign policies before the creation of the atomic bomb when countries invaded other countries when they acted against their main interest. Like the Boxer Rebellion in China. 4. Other examples of the Empire cruelty against citizens on backwater planets reflect real life examples of forced industrialization during the Industrial revolution.
More people need to remember your first point; I'm really glad you brought it up. The norms of society which we are familiar with do not necessarily apply to fictional universes.
Dude! They blew up a planet! Why you think mentioning that and then excusing the, BLOWING UP OF AN ENTIRE PLANET, doesn't make the Empire THEE bad guys is mind boggling. The original trilogy didn't have time to show the evil of the Empire on an individual basis. That's why Lucas had them, BLOW UP AN ENTIRE PLANET! It pretty much cleared that up for the audience. Well until you came along. I hope you're simply trolling dude.
If anything Leia was an awful person for infesting such a nice planet to begin with, it was all her and the rest of the rebel leaders faults. #theempirewasright
I have to say it's pretty disturbing how many people will earnestly defend the destruction of Alderaan. Like, Lucas chose the single most evil act he, and most people, could think of and you'll get plenty of people saying "it wasn't THAT bad!"
@@butsukete1806 Not in the least. It actually would have been incredibly immoral if Truman didn't use it. That is if you care about the sum total of human life that is.

Exactly, you make a good point, Long Live The Empire!!

Another Empire W
Hey, with one shot, the Empire cured Alderan’s hunger, homelessness, unemployment, and crime problems…
How nice of them, they were portrayed so incorrectly!
"Yooo dudes"
The Empire would have got 'better press' had they come up with a weapon that would have destroyed all intelligent life on Alderan but left the planet intact.
So a bio weapon? A much more excruciating death than being insinuated instantly.
the death stars were partially created to deal with the yuuzhan vong. which palpatine was preparing for
emperor palpatine approves haha
Dude they eradicated the imperial senate in the first original star wars movie. Silencing any voice that would oppose the emperor's word.
Yessir Long Live The Empire
Huh. Maybe I should like...join it or something.
It is pretty chill yk

"blowing up alderaan was cool because among the civilian populace there were a couple people there that really don't like you"
no
Yes
what about when Vader went back on his deal with Lando
Lando was talking to someone who was in a much higher position, his superior. Vader had every right to alter the deal.
What is this imperialist propaganda?

Was Harry Truman evil for using nukes to end a war?

What manner of Imperial Propaganda is this?
I think they incinerated old couple or something, but ehh they weren't really all that interesting to begin with
Yeah, it’s not like that old couple had any sort of importance.
The Empire did literally nothing wrong.
Long live the emperor.
Long Live The Empire!!
