Geely is smart when it comes to buying and funding compared to Ford as they screwed over Volvo and Mazda badly in the past. In fact Chinese cars as many make fun of them are doing what the Japanese used to do in the past, innovating and engineering for the better, rather than being stagnant
Its the way the Polestar 1 sits on its wheels that make it look so good. The wheels/tires fit PERFECTLY in the wheel wells and are flush with the body. Its stunning.
I really dig this channel, I just found it tonight. I recently bought a Volvo S60 and I continually notice that it is such a beautifully designed car, and it’s good to know that there are other people out there that can really appreciate the design of modern cars
I'm just another architecture student who is so obsessed with Volvo/Polestar (and I suppose everything to do with Scandinavia as well) passing through. When it came to deciding my first car I chose the facelifted C30. With the C30 you can get a tiny little slice of that Swedish, minimalist, P1800 ES feel for not too much money. I think a new shooting break, concept estate style car would not only be harking back to the 1800 ES but it would also be a continuation of the C30 style too.
I really like the fact that even the front silhouette of the polestar one looks like the p1800. You can really see how much love was put into the design.

I like the polestar 1. the polestar 2..... Not for me.... the rear just is not something I can like one bit! In general I think the rear lights on the new volvo's I am not the biggest fan of. Just looks a bit saggy and the polestar 2 interior btw just no!!! don't be that slab of display with now flow.... That is just a YIKES the Polestar one indeed has nice clean lines though! the v90 should have had lights come in less like the xc90 had

All I’m saying is if I were to buy a $150k car I would want something a little more unique. If it had the polestar 2 interior it would be a different story because at least it’s different. If I had the resources to buy a Sports Coupe, the Polestar 1 would be my choice, something about how the car looks and feels is such a breath of fresh air, it's a clean and beautiful design.

The fact that many people's reactions to cars is, "it looks like a mustang" tells how great of a design the s550 series is. I've never heard anyone compare cars to a mustang in body styling before this. When the s650 comes out. I wonder what inspiration they will take to redesign it. Will they focus on efficiency in the looks, or just make it obvious this is a mustang and make it very muscular like dodge. I do want to see a factory widebody mustang though.
If many people say it looks like a Mustang, there should be a reason behind it. Instead of holding on to "similar proportions", I think we should try to explore more about the reason behind it. In my opinion, for untrained eyes, these two cars do look similar. I'll explain it by giving some extreme examples: the Mercedes C class coupe, I think the amount of people thinking it looks like a Mustang will be way fewer than that of the Volvo. It's the first impression people get when they see a car. And this impression is fully justified because you don't need a designer's degree to be a car buying customer. If the design of the car is not unique enough, people naturally think of similar models and compare them. It's not the audience's fault. When I first saw the Polestar, I think the front looked gorgeous. It's wide and stable and looks planted. When parked on the side of the road it had a nice stance. But the rear is really dull. Feels like a different designer who doesn't know how to match up with the front. That wide and rectangular rear wheel arch and the shoulder line is the key part that make people compare this car to the Mustang, so in fact, the real design characteristics of this car is the reason, not just the "proportions". The C class coupe has a different shoulder line, which totally changes the its appearance. To wrap it up, I think European brands tend to design cars that look really tight, like a lean guy but still have muscles. American cars tend to look big and soggy. That's why the Polestar looks so confusing, the front is very European, but the rear just flew across the Atlantic.
The first time I saw the side profile of the Volvo I immediately though of the Mustang. It does have similarities from the side profile and that’s not a bad thing to me personally. Of course from any other angle it has looks of it’s own. It’s a beautiful car and would love to own one.

I’d be very interested in a more critical video though if you ever make one, maybe one where you highlight some bad mistakes from the last decade or places where the over styling was really too much. I'd say the estate concept is the V60, not V90, and the SUV concept is the XC60, not XC90. Polestar 1 is amazing, one of the best designed cars I've seen. Volvo are killing it
In my opinion Polestar is really that son or daughter that has heavy swedish roots, which you can clearly see on the outside of the cars, which has sought to seperate a bit from its family and do its own thing while retaining family heritage, which you can see in the interior where it gets a bit more luxury oriented and a bit more excentric with the the crystal like shifter for example. Personally i think it should be even more subtle in terms of styling in terms of interior since it is supposed to show the simplistic nature of volvo design. What fancy design does a sports car need anyway?
I don't even think Geely fiddled with anything. They just funded Volvo to get them out of a tough spot and Volvo did everything else. All Geely took from Volvo was their collaborative design of the chassis to use for Lynk & Co

When people say something looks like a mustang it's usually because it's a coupe with a flatter front fascia and a similar stance. Also any coupe with headlight placement remotely similar to mustangs gets that label usually. The headlight shape it different but that's probably what the average eye of a person who makes that person sees

I'm a big fan of Camaros and I agree the Polestar 1 looks nothing like a Camaro or Mustang. I do like the Polestar 1 and I love what Need for Speed did with it and made it their hero car with the wild body kit. Someone actually recreated the Need for Speed Polestar 1 car in real life and looks amazing.

It does look a lot like a smaller Mustang, though. Look at the relationship between the wheels and A and C pillars - it's basically the same! At first glance they are indistinguishable from the side, when you put the side photo up, my first thought was that it was a Mustang, not the Volvo

Don't get me wrong ,I think it looks great, but It kinda looks like the German , particularly Audi's design from the 90's to me. Audi's from the 90's were like this; sharp , clean , simple design to me anyway . Still cool design from Polestar!

The polestar has pretty similar proportions to the mustang in my opinion. I don’t see how the they’re “totally different” when they are pretty noticeably similar. Sure they have differences, (the wheel base for example) But the front end, rear end, and the size of the door seem pretty close to the mustang and other muscle/sporty cars. I think that literally any differences you see makes the design “TOTALLY DIFFERENT”. While it’s really just lower case “different” to the other design.
Volvo would died if not Chinese money. I'm glad Volvo can finally make the models they want. Hopefully they keep factories in Sweden some more years. Maybe the design is kept in swedish hands. I'm sorry being a bit pessimistic. Beautiful cars altogether!

The mustang doesn’t even look good next the challenger, that car still turns heads. The Volvo looks nothing like a mustang .

I would say that the XC Coupe Concept became the XC60 and the Estate Concept became the V60.
