My neighbor completely built a 2002 Yukon XL 2500 SLT from the bottom up. Upgraded every nut and bolt, you could think of, dropped a brand new 6.6 LB7 Duramax with an Allison 1000 into it. Kryptonite steering components, the whole shabang. Spent well over $100k into it.......has it for sale in his front yard for $40k. The thing is a MONSTER but its never touched a bump since its build. I'm about to sell my Sierra and buy it just cuz I know its pretty much indestructable😂😂😂
For everyone’s information. The Z71 and standard suspension trucks do not have these special shocks and do not require spring replacement. Only the ZW7 option code (can be read on an options sticker inside your door jamb) require the spring swap. Also, ZW7 smooth ride trucks are not the same as Z55 Auto Ride trucks. The Z55 option is a full on electronic shock and air spring system.
Do you know if we change to bilstein shocks .. will it damage anything on the vehicle?? Or will it ride the same ? Thanks for any info... cuz mines also has the smooth ride performance .. and I need to change the rear shocks but don’t want to spend too much money ..
I also replaced my nivomat shocks on my 03 burban with the 5100’s but I installed MOOG heavy duty or the Z71 springs instead of the bilstein. Smooth ride, no complaints.
I watched this video at least 10 times before I put these shocks and springs on. This is what I learned. Use a 3 ton floor jack. Use 6 ton jack stands. Use blue lock tight on all the bolts except for the nylon nuts on top of the front shocks. If you can get the rear high enough you won't have to remove the wheels, but you have to release the rear shocks while you have a jack supporting the differential and you have to lower that as far as it will go and you can remove the old springs and put the new ones in with out having to use spring compressors. I had to remove the rear wheels so you must have had your truck pretty high. Maybe 5 or 6 notches on the jack stan. I went back through all the bolts an check the tork once I had the truck back on the ground but didn't really notice any chang. I spent about an hr. On the front and two to three on the back. The dealership wanted 4 to 5 shop hrs. To do the job at $120./ hr. It was worth the $ 200-300. I spent at harbor freight for the jack and Jack stands because I'm sure I'll be doing more repairs now that I subscribed to your channel. Thx again!

Had Bilstein shocks on my 2000 Tundra and my 1999 Jeep Wrangler when I owned them. They both rode great. I will need shocks on my 2003 Silverado 1500 next year and will be putting the 5100 shocks on it. The 1999 Wrangler had the 5100 shocks on it. Can not beat the ride quality of the Bilstein shocks. Great video keep it up.
Great video! I'm a new owner of a 1 owner 2004 LT and purchased the same springs, but opted for the 4600 series shocks. Can't wait to install and feel the difference, my fronts are shot for sure, rear Nivomats can't be much better.
Great video! I have a 2004 Suburban and changed front and rear to the 4600 Bilsteins rather than the 5100's. Read quite a few reviews that the 5100's will lift factory height which I didn't want. Also read the 5100's create a bit more of a stiff hard ride than the 4600's. Also went with the Bilstein springs to avoid the sag in the rear. Over all I am very happy with them.
Good luck with them I made it 5800 miles on a set, started pouring the oil. Couldn't get them to warranty it. Three years later the bushings had rotted completely out of the shocks. I had good service from their circle track shocks, but I wouldn't run their street shocks on a wheelbarrow. Check out the taco and Nissan forums a lot of people have had bad experiences with their 5100(5150 series. Better off with Gabriel or Rancho junk from advance. At least they will stand behind it.
Great video. I have a 99 yukon and i installed the 5100 shocks on the rear so far and wow what a great ride it made. I will b putting the 5100 on the front soon. Keep the vids coming. Thanks
Going to replace four of mine on 17 High Country 6.2L with 4600s. It's not lifted and Bilstein recommended them and to boot the dealer will replace them under warranty with any shock of my choice.
One of the best Mods I made to my 03 ZR2 was to ditch the Bilstein rear shocks. They were way to stiff on compression. @@VCR1117 Honestly it was a damn good ride afterwards. With the amount of weight in my cargo area due to a custom system, it had a little squat but it almost still looked factory. Unfortunately I totalled it about 3 months ago so I have to start all the way over. Just swapped my shocks after 150k miles, I too had the premium zw7 suspension on a 03 Tahoe and it was shot. Ride horrible on bumpy roads. Felt like a boat basically. I not knowing those shocks were special ordered rear OE AC Delco shocks for cars with out the premium ride. Well they do ride much better, but the rear dropped a bit. They are expensive, but they do offer a lot of benefits traditional shocks can’t.
Little tip I found with my 5100 on my tundra. I doubled up the zip ties on my shock boots and they were loose after about 2k miles. Grab some stainless hose clamps from Home Depot or your local hardware store. Def eliminates the possibility of it coming off again.

I have a 2003 GMC Yukon SLT and I'm going with Bilstein shocks and springs, but the steering stabilizer won't work on a 2003 according to eBay.
@@Kendell062 don't use ebay for parts reference. Use bilstein's online look up.
@@yellows10dude You're right, should have made sure by checking Bilstein's website.
Those oe rear shocks automatically leveled out under a load. It was one step below the air adjusting shocks.
So do u think they will work on a 04 Chevy Tahoe
Why did you put the shock in boot up ? If you get a hole in the boot, crap sits on the seal ?
Presto, self-leveling eliminated so when loaded it will now squat
Ya my suburban doesn't have the fancy suspension but the springs are worn out it sits pretty low and I say they are pretty cheap I just haven't done them yet
Hello from belgium,
I have a 2007 ltz suburban z55 suspension and want to change rear suspension. I understand that : if choose 4600 bilstein not need to change rear spring and if choose 5100 I need to change rear spring ?
Exact ? ? ?
Will this new combo work on 08 avalanche?
Yeah i hate when the rubber hat falls off cause then you gotta worry if you'll be paying for it the next 18 years.
so 5100 will lift the car or just same height as 4600?
Did you feel any bumps or did you feel vibration through your steering wheel once u hit bumps?
Hey I bought an old truck with lift kits but I think my shoes are the wrong ones how do I know witch ones are the right ones
I have a question guys i liked this vid i have original air ride in my 03 yukon denali xl i wanna change to conventional shocks and springs front/rear im thinking on bilsteins 5100 and 4600 whats the difference 5100s can work better or is for lifted vehicles also bilteins or other brand springs are etter?
I think they sent u the wring springs the rt ones would have been 2 to 3 inches higher
Just a follow up Jimmy, I’m just over a year and a half with this exact setup on my 02 suburban and I’ve noticed that I’m starting to get a little bit of sway on the Highway. Any thoughts? I’m starting to think the 5100’s are starting to fail cause of the weight..
what do you have for front shocks? is your suburban a FWD or 4WD?
Nice--I've got a Z71 so my springs are good but thinking about these Bilsteins for my 2004.
Mr 1Road you think the 5100 bil shocks work with the 99 chevy suburban
Hey I have a 2002 suburban with air ride suspension. Are this shocks OK to put on?
Will the springs you listed fit a 2 wheel drive.
Can I use them on a 2wd tahoe or does it need to be 4wd
I have a question I put KY B's on the rear my 79 Lincoln Mark V should Iput kyb in the front as well the front has a two-year-old Monroe's but they seem to be okay what do you suggest
My 03 tahoe has the auto ride suspension, and the rear shocks are shot and very expensive to replace, will this set up work on mine? Is that the same factory suspension your suburban had?
Does it come in a 2 pack ?
Hello folks i got a question i have a 2005 chevy suburban with the air ride shocks and compressor. But i want to eliminate the air ride can i get these 5100 shocks and springs to convert please get back at me
Did I hear some some noises when you went over the speed bump? When the coils reload it sounds like they squeak??
rickfx xzc stevenson🤔 Definitely heard that at 7:03 😂😂

The amazon link is saying these domt fit my 03 z71

Random question but I was curious what size tires do u have on the 2003 suburban?
Grim Tim they’re the stock size from a 2015-2020 Suburban wheels but the bolt pattern is the same
