The Truth About Deleting Your Diesel Truck

- Опубліковано 17 лип 2024
- I know this video is long, but I try to go over all the questions and concerns I've come across about deleting diesel trucks.
**PLEASE READ**
At 8:12 I mixed up the regen cycle and the function of the EGR valve. My apologies. The Regen cycle super heats the exhaust and the particulate is burned up and sent out the exhaust. The EGR valve is what recirculates exhaust gasses.

DMAXRYNO oh I see
DMAXRYNO just saying, you had a hat on... but I'm really here to ask your opinion on a few things
#1 Chevy Dodge or GMC?
#2 What do you think about a truck that is near the end of it's Warranty but has a motor in it with only about 700 miles on it? good deal or bad juju?
Chevys have the best transmission (Allison)Dodge has the best engine (Cummins) Ford builds a better body IMO.They all have their weaknesses and strengths.
Michael Brown you didn't even mention ford? Lmao. You're the stereotypical bias chevy owner. "Chevy, GMC, or Dodge?"
I'm weak
def fluid... saving the environment one plastic jug and carboard box at a time
not to mention chemicals in it lol
Lane Blount lmao... aka Democrat Exhaust Fluid... DEF
And burning an extra 30% worth of fuel, and premature engine failure due to egr.
Get it at a truck stop, they have def pumps by the diesel pumps. No waste.
Lane Blount lol, tree hugger army at its finest
def is just a plastic bottle and cardboard box every 5000 miles going in the landfill. thanks EPA for saving our environment.
Get it from a pump, not available everywhere but it's cheaper. Saving bottles and money
Yup someone obviously smarter than you and I figured out what to make and who to talk to to get feel good environmentalist bullshit emissions laws passed which forces people to buy their product every 5000 miles it’s absolutely crazy if you ask me
Ran into your modification video on my suggestions & now you're starting to become one of my favorite channels. Keep the content coming
Will do, appreciate the kind words!
I work at a diesel shop and one of the most common things we do are deletes. We take out the egr, we put on a flo pro exhaust and a tune.
Can u do that for the 2018?
plog1805 where is the shop located
No real mechanic is going to say they install deletes for on road vehicles.
Any shop that removes ANY emissions equipment is opening themselves up to a huge fine. Just say'n.
@@TristianTate lmao...exactly
So glad you finally uploaded thank you for the great videos man I look forward everyday hoping you upload
Nick Mcgeehen appreciate the continued support! I'll keep the content coming!
Thank you lol I'm upset I didn't find your UA-cam sooner but I'm a big fan man
DMAXRYNO how much it cost fer programmer to do a delete and not too worried bout all the extras from programmer just the fuel efficiency fer lotta stop and go driving and long trips since its most expensive item i was told
This was a really informative video man, one of my employees is really just living and breathing diesel, he want's one so bad. I've got an 06 Chevy 3/4 ton 6.0 LS2 longbed and it's a stick, it's got 184,000 and still gets all over it. But I see the strength of the diesel, I mean my truck is strong but it's not gonna out perform the same truck in diesel. I know tons of stuff about gas motors but I'm not educated on the diesel, watching some of your videos is a ton of help, he's got a big family and he's not from this country and he's still pretty young and I always have helped him go get any new vehicle he's had over the last 6 years he's been working with me. Now I've got some knowledge to give to him about a ton of stuff I honestly had no idea about with these trucks. This was an awesome video bro.
I know what a re-gen is. I think DPF and DEF should be banned and deletes should be mandatory.
Hell yeah
FYI, during a Regen the soot is not sent back into your engine. Diesel is pumped directly into your exhaust and the soot is oxidized by high temperature and goes out the exhaust pipe not your engine. It's the EGR that sends soot back to your engine. So a Regen has nothing to do with sending soot to your engine.
*DEF is pumped into your exhaust......not diesel.
Don Riedel no, during a REGEN DIESEL IS pumped into your exhaust. That’s how the temperature of the exhaust increases to over 1000 degrees. Kinda har to accomplish that with DEF that is 67% water. DEF is continuously pumped into the exhaust to reduce Nox emissions.
@@JoePJack1 def is after the dpf, diesel is injected after the turbo and ignite between the doc and dpf to clean all particulate mater (soot), the the def only kill the nox
@@julianfuentes5023 you mean like I said?
Most of what you explained in the video is spot on and is also a reason a lot of truck drivers go with glider kits (otr semis spend most their times rolling so regens are easier). It’s been a serious debate on which is better for the environment and for the vehicle itself. From personal experience, I can definitely say pickup trucks run a lot better without all the extra exhaust restrictions choking the engine and killing performance when they eventually get stopped up. As far cleanliness goes, it depends mostly on how you drive and where your ECU tune is in regards to performance. If your truck is running poorly due to a failed regen, chances are it’s probably running dirtier than a fully deleted truck.
Deleting is like weed 10 years ago once it was hated next thing u know everyone's doing it
Riding dirty Off-road hahahaha
God bless the pioneers
Good then great now
The soot doesn't recycle threw your engine. It just blows out of the fucking dpf. For fucks sake. Fuck my cabesa
Joe Dirt The EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculator) put exhaust gases back into the engine, look it up sometime.
Joe Dirt EGR/EGRV has everything to do with performing a regen. to burn soot off of the DPF the aftertreatment system (depending on which engine) relies on increasing exhaust temps through manipulation/restriction of ITV/ETV and EGRV. So it goes hand in hand.
Russxm v
ziondizzy2011 jhe is specifically talking about the soot from the dpf which it blows out the exhaust , not threw the intake you stupid fuck.
Joe Dirt Fact #1 soot DOES recycle thru the engine. this recycled exhaust (inert) gas is put back into the cylinders to displace the amount of oxygen, lowering combustion temp - thus lowering (emissions) NOx. this is one of the ways we get soot in the engine oil - THRU RECIRCULATION.
Fact #2 if ANYTHING comes out the tail pipe, you have a potential catastrophic component failure in your exhaust system. Soot is trapped and turned into ash (ash also doesn't escape DPF) by the DPF and DOC. this is why the DPF itself can be regenerated a set number of times before it needs to be removed and further addressed. soot is burned off - turned into ash which is still is trapped by the filter.
stop with the name calling. if you're wrong be a man about it.

edit: at the end of the day, if you were a customer that brought his truck into my bay and that is what you believed, I would have no choice but to say you were correct.
I don't understand why more people don't like his videos he is great at what he does he is not a "parent funded" guy I like what he does keep up the good work guy
thanks for all the information i have a 2016 chevy 2500 and i was thinking about deleting but wasn't sure but after listening to you i am doing it next week regen process is annoying!!!!.
You know how you stop people from hitting your truck and adjusting your seat, do it your self....
Thanks for explaining all of that man! Appreciate it.
deleting "def" deleting anything you want and actually making a motor fuel efficient is the best thing you can do.
Just to get rid of some of the myths here. 1. You have no idea how the DPF Regen cycle works. It doesnt doesn't go back through your engine. It burns it in the DPF and out the tail pipe. It intentionally gets the EGTs high in the DPF to burn off the soot and regenerate the catalyst in it. 2. It's not that the EPA wouldn't trust you to initialize the DPF Regen cycle, it's that the average pickup owner wouldn't want to. Likely to keep from hurting the sales of Diesel pick-ups, as well as reduce the likelihood of damaging the DPF/Motor (by owners that typically have no clue how to even drive), manufacturers decided it was best to keep the DPF as a self-maintaining system. Large trucks, particularly semi's and buses sometimes have an extra gauge on the dash that measures DPF efficiency. They also have a toggle switch that allows you to override the Regen Cycle for a period of time, as well as initiate the regen cycle manually. To keep from scaring off potential buyers, diesel pickup manufacturers decided to skip adding extra switches and buttons and make it seem like the system is maintenance free.... but it's not.
You can sometimes force Regen in the kenworths
The biggest problems with the DPF and the regen cycle is in the trucking industry or farming industry or those people that keep their trucks in enclosed garages, the super high temperatures that are required for the Regen to clean out the system has lead to fires that have damaged property and have almost cost people their lives. I had a co-worker that almost lost her fiance because his Truck went into regen while he was in the sleeper and the system malfunctioned and got so hot that the cab of the truck started to fill with smoke luckily he was able to get out of the truck in time and since he was at a truck stop they were able to get the fire department there in time to keep the truck from going up in flames. There have been others that have not been so lucky. Farmers have lost their entire barns due to their equipment going into a regen cycle and then parking the tractor in a barn where the floors can be covered in Hay or other very flammable materials and since the exhaust is so hot from the regen it ignites the materials around the equipment and then the farmer loses their barn and any equipment that was stored in the barn.
You can see why the EPA wouldn’t trust consumer end users to manually Regen or override it. You have idiots who know nothing about the process deleting the system altogether...
i think the point that he was trying to make was if you are told that in the next 60 miles you will need to do a regen you can plan your trips accordingly and force a regen at a appropriate time rather then it just happens and youre not even notified that it has happened/happening. this could be programed just like "add DEF fluid" notifications
Evan Mccloud all of the KW we had had a three position switch, Auto, Off and Forced regen.
I agree these newer vehicles are getting to complicated. To much emisions ruins the motor.
Love your videos man keep up the great work! You definitely Work For It man!
I have never spoke to someone after a delete and they regretted it! its always truck runs better, more responsive and over all just great! thats with just a economy tune! I mean i have seen all these new trucks with this hippy EPA bullshit tag on them fail! they just dont last! If you don't believe check out youtube videos of people explaining this shit and it will make you cringe!! I agree with you great video! luckily for my my 07 5.9 cummins that just had a cat which is gone!
Dude I hope your planning to do a video on deleting in California and how you plan to go about your next smog test being that we have to test our trucks every 2 years here.
What happens when I need to get a state inspection done after deleting and tuning? Does the tuner trick the test? Will I just need to find someone to pass it illegally? Can the DPS seize your truck or just issue tickets? Those are the big concerns I have. Great video, thanks for the info.
State inspection doesn’t inspect emissions. State inspection is a safety check. Emissions inspection is county by county, and that inspects exhaust components.
I'm no expert......lol....yea we know cause you are having the dealer change your oil
Cause you take a new truck to the dealer so it's on file of your shit being changed so they cant say you never did
It doesnt matter if it is or isn't. As long as you did it and they can tell the difference and you can track it on your vehicle. You can do it. It has no effect on your warranty. And they say it does. Thats a dealer looking for a lawsuit.
Also this guy thinks all electricity runs on coal. I'll go with not the sharpest tool in the shed my self. But it's been going around deleting def systems have more pros than cons. But that will most def void the warranty.
@@madjackgamingandfitness498 having it on file is alot easier for proof of the change.. you can take it to any shop just have the receipt. Not saying you have to only go to the dealer
@@lsxlife232 i still don't follow. Why do you need this on paper when going to a shop ? I work in one and I've been to my dealer and other shops never once asked for it or had it asked of me. You can do your own oil changes for christ sakes lol...
I'm in a 2014 5.3 and have been wanting to trade it for a Duramax soon. Very helpful video, Thank you man.
Seriously considering doing a delete on my truck now. Great video!! Very informative!!
You won't regret it!
Best thing you can do is, CHANGE YOUR OWN OIL. !
Change your own oil, you will know exactly what was done. Great video on the delete info.
luv that train horn at the end of the vid. that'll make 'em drop their cell while they're texting and driving!
@DMAXRYNO with all these deletes how does inspection work in CA? Are you "allowed" to run a straight pipe? I know diesels don't technically have a SMOG inspection, but do they do some other type of inspection for diesels and what do they look for? Have you ran into any issues with that?
Great videos BTW! Glad i found your channel. You have my dream truck and in my hometown! Been a sub since you had
good video 👍👍

i like your views on new car smell and putting your seat back, along with the great diesel info.
Thanks! Appreciate the sub as well!
1955 M35 Tubo, no governor. 8 MPG top speed 50 MPH. 5 speed with high low range. I love that truck.
Good video man.. Just as someone posted a few hours ago - California smog is a mother. You obviously have a major smog plug. The average dude in California with no hookup in the smog world would get screwed because he'd have to revert changes every time he has to get a smog check - which makes the whole thing a pain in the butt. Another thing - regarding DPF: that soot doesn't get recirculated back into your engine (as stated on your video). The filter is located in the last 3rd of your exhaust system. There's a 9th fuel injector in there. When the sensors see 40grams of buildup; it light's off fuel in the particulate filter. That ash goes right out the tailpipe, and not back into the engine. EGR gases however to get sent back through the combustion system of the engine. I like the video. Good work - just wish CA didn't have such stringent smog laws.
I know it’s an old video but i just found your channel and I’m watching all of your stuff. What about smog checks?
I am loving your videos. We recently purchased a 2015 DMax. We went for a 2017 gas 4x4 Z71 already lifted at dealer. However, the dealer had gotten this 2015 DMax the night before & it had less than 25k so we bought it. This is our first desiel so these videos are really helping us plus all our friends have them so we are getting lots of information.
Question? How do I change the exhaust like you are describing but keep it from being too loud?
Love that tow hook!!!!
Tammy Beeson fully delete it and keep the stock muffler or buy an aftermarket muffler. Diesels back in the 90s has no emissions just a muffler.
One of the reasons why I got my 7.3. None of this junk to either delete or spend money to fix. I do however suffer the low mpg but that’s fine. I’ll take my old reliable stinky beast any day.
The 7.3 Powerstroke great engine
I am ready to delete mine, DEF fluid I have more issues with that. Thanks for the video.
will you make a video going over the total costs of your build?
Is this information the same for big trucks? I have a 2013 FreightLiner Cascadia. The warranty isn't shit on it so I am not worried about that. I am more worried about if my company allows it. Can i get fined? Also I think to be able to go to California you have to have EGR. I wonder if i could just delete the DEF so i could still be Cali compliant. Thanks man
Trucking with Chad B if you do not own that truck, don’t mess with it... it’s one thing to buy and run a glider truck. Its a whole new federal can of worms to tamper with, alter, or render inoperable the emissions systems which are factory on vehicles. Since we get DOT inspections, and the exhaust system is part of the inspections, it’s better not to even think about it... I know a guy who hallowed out his DPF’s on all 8 of his trucks. 20,000 dollars later, it was a hard lesson learned.
What tune did you use? What lift pump? I just bought a 2013 lml duramax and want to get it tuned, lift pump and exhaust and get delete plates just curious of the products you used. Thanks for the great info man
Thanks for the deleting class bro!
Why does a DP Filter(I think that's what it's called" filter out stuff just to heat it up and burn it off through the motor later? Forgive me if it's a silly question I just know nothing about diesel besides how bad ass they are most use tubskies these days. Seems like this DPF is super counter productive to me???!?
oh ok thanks man for clearing that up
It’s a catalyst effect that cleans the emissions and soot is something else. It’s the chemical reaction that is good. And a burn off isn’t worse than that. It’s a simple release of soot.
I see you're at Jimmy Johnson Chevy in SD, right in my backyard, well sort of. Not it pertains to me, my diesels are pre-'07, but how does this affect your emissions check?
Back when I had my '03 Duramax, I took it to a dealer for some work, some warranty some normal maintenance, I got my truck back with a new headlight and new inner fender well. Both items were nothing related to what I brought it in for, but for whatever reason, I did not notice until several weeks later. At that point, I could have said something to the dealer, but I had driven it for those weeks, so they could have said I did it.
In short, yes, try to keep an eye on your vehicle if you can. Or if you want to be safe, just take several pics of your truck before it goes in for service, the photos you take with your phone will have a date/time stamp so you can prove that if there was damage, it was not there prior to being at the dealership or any other shop.
If I order a straight pipe do I still need to add Def fluid when it says- and will it smoke?
Does it pass smog?
Also, just reminding you about about and your seatbelt. Thanks for a good video man.
Yeah I mean the older diesels do so why not?
I didn't know any of this about diesel trucks
WV coal miner here. You're exactly right on the Volt. Most greenies think you flip the switch and its magic, there's light.
Hey thanks for all the help I just recently bought a Dodge 2017 2500HD diesel with 22,000 Miles on it. I work in the oilfield Idle the truck for about 12 to 13 Hours daily. Why my question is is that badd for the engine and for the exhaust. Is it best for me to delete with so much idling time.
The lift pump you mentioned, does that replace the factory high flow cp4 pump that comes on the 2017 f250?
Great video, thanks for all the info dude!
What you guys have to keep in mind by deleting all the EGR and DPF equipment is it could come back to bite you at some point. While it is largely unenforced at this point in time I can foresee a large push to require emissions testing on medium and heavy duty trucks in the near future. So if you pull your equipment off, you better keep it around in case you have to put it back on.
During a regen the exhaust is not sent back to the engine the computer dumps more fuel into the engine to get the exhaust hotter which burns the soot in the dpf filter. All the extra fuel is not burn but is assisting in turning the soot into ash to exit out the tail pipe. But you are right all that unburned fuel is bad on the engine.
Great video, how much did your delete cost?
Thanks for all the info, what does it cost to have a shop delete the EGR & DPF Filter?
Inline 6 for the win pal.
97 12v for the win....18 to 20 mpg...all stock minus the exhaust....but I didn't buy or own the truck to look like all these common lifted 4x4 "trucks" I actually use it as a truck....ain't pretty but it'll run forever
I have a 2015 Duramax and I was wondering what programer you have on your truck.
Obviously he's too cool to respond, after showing off how he doesn't actually have much knowledge of his truck!
Came here for info, got confused by the stealership oil change and his rendition of how the exhaust is haha. Got a laugh at least =/
SO if I understand you right, the warranty isn't for crap anyways so you took the particulate filter off before it ran out?
Hey bro. Where did you buy your tunes and what vendor?
How many miles did you have on your truck when you deleted it I'm about to buy a new truck and I was wondering how long I should wait to delete it.
Do you have emissions checked in your state? I've heard that some of these state inspection machines are getting harder to fool.
Is there any drone on highway crusing with 5”straight pipe? I just got a 2017 f250 and im planning to get an exhaust but im worry about the drone.if it has drone is there any good idea?
This was very helpful,thanks
unforunately i brought an extended warranty with my 2015 3500 i wanted turn key for a least 6/100,000 but i do plan on deleteing after, and nice vlog, also what train horn did you put on
Hey I'm planning getting an new truck either lml or lp5 who did you go to tune and delete the truck?
Hi.
How did you delete.
Or how to found someone to do.
does it damage the cat in any way? i just purchased a 2014 3500HD and thinking about deleting the EGR.
So, I have a 2017 silverado, how much do you think, ballpark, that I will spend doing a delete? Let's just say, doing it using what you would use on your own vehicle...tune and exhaust system wise.
I am wanting to delete my duramax. my friend deleted his 2016 cumins and 5000 miles later had to spend 4000 on a new turbo. should i be worried about the turbo in my 15 duramax?
Forgive me if this is a stupid question, but could you do something similar on an older truck? Like a old dodge from the late 80s?
No need. The dpf is only on newer trucks. 80's 90's and early 2k's just go turbo to muffler to exhaust tip.
Can you recommend what delete you use and I just got a code that say bad def..so I am lost right now...What do you use for smog..Thanks...
@ DMAXRYNO. Any idea where I can fix my exhaust? I want the same set up as you. Funny story I also “lost parts” in Mexico.
How do you deal with emissions testing?
great video man. I'd live to get a L5P in the near future. a delete will be a must for me cause I still enjoy my 2003 LB7 zf 6 speed manual... I subed....
I always buy new vehicles, and after watching this video, I have been cured of ever wanting to buy a diesel. I pull a 5000 lb trailer and I'm going with a 2020 or 2021 Sierra 1500 with the 6.2 motor and Max Tow package.
You said coal keeps the lights on and I subscribe
Is it possible yo undelete it easily. Say if you have to go take an emissions tests? Or will the OBD2 sensor not be able to tell the difference?
Ummm if your burning oil you are having bigger problems than anything..... shouldn’t burn any oil at all
Kevin Rau every engine burns a little oil no matter how new it is. What matters is how much you’re burning.
Magnusson Moss Act is something to look into RE a tuner or chip voiding your warranty. While the dealership can, of course, make it difficult for you, the Magnusson Moss Act says that they can only deny a warrantable issue/claim if they can prove that the mods you did directly caused the issue. Granted, if you do a full delete, you don't have a leg to stand on given the dealership can often say they simply won't touch it given it's illegally mod'd.
please help me with my doubts. I went in the dodge to leave my 2015 ram 3500 with aisin tranny, to fix the sensor p22ee, referring to the catalytic, and charged me $ 2,100.00 the sensor of the front and the rear more inatalação. so I decided to delete it after all these sensors will leave. what is the value to delete by installing a direct exhaust of 5 "??? and what is the provision to delete? remove def and what more?
That last comment about keeping an eye on your rig whilst being worked on is gold! I can't stress that enough, just had a shop try and pull some wool over my eyes. I called them out on it and problem was solved after lots of fighting. Trust no one until trust is earned...
Being a SoCal boy myself, have you figured out how to manage a delete and tune here in California?
I've heard if you get pulled over by dps they could check your truck for emissions system and it's not there you could be fined big and potentially more problems. Don't know if they would check but with load exhaust might
So it sounds like a no brainer to delete. My question is how do you pass emissions, I’m from Chicago and here we have to have safety inspections every 6 months for class D and up as well as emission testing. How would I do that?
I just bought a 2009 6.6 Duramax and have been thinking about deleting but haven't gone through it yet because I am required to do emissions testing every other year. If I were to delete will I still get through it scott free or would it fail me? Im over in Wisconsin btw.
visual fail or heatgun fail or onboard diagnostic fail would all be issues.
Also the bosch Cp3 pump is designed so that the fuel used to lubricate the bottom end is send back to the tank and not through to the injectors.
Is the chevy Colorado diesel a good reliable truck?
the whole fuel system is covered under the powertrain an diesel 100k warranty unless the fuel system was contaminated with water or gas I am a Gm tech an also the soot gets blown out the tail pipe as ash not back into the engine, I agree tho with deleting the emission systems are terrible for the trucks, I own a deleted duramax 9 out of 10 times a dmax comes in with a cel it's for the emissions system
drew l I may have misspoke on the soot getting back into the motor. I was talking about the exhaust gases that run back through from the egr valve.
Would I have to still run DEF once the motor is deleted?
DMAXRYNO nice truck tho idk how lomg u wait between oil changes but if ur burning oil block the pcv the turbo creates a lot of vacuum on the pcv an pulls a lot of oil thro the intake cause there usually pretty good about not burning much oil
No.
Cummins Camping actually, egr introduces air with a low oxygen content into the intake to lower combustion temperature and reduce the formation of nox. It has absolutely nothing to do with unburnt fuel.
If I read my ram Cummins manual correctly, regen cycles are initiated every 2 hours of truck operation at low speeds/low rpm.
What if you have to do emissions testing every year?
How can I get rid or lose the volume of that key in or seatbelt warming
Do you know a link to the tuner and delete you have?
"Coal keeps the lights on"..
How did the delete affect your warranty?
What tune do u recommend for the delete.
what delete system did you use?
what is the link about the regen video ?
So if I wanted to just delete the diesel exhaust fluid I need a tuner?
I would love to remove the DPF on my car, but my vehicle is not that popular for these types of mods, at least not in the U.S., Can you tell us where you got the mod done? I have a MB SUV, 2010 GL350
Even if the diesels don't get the probe in the tailpipe do they still not have to pass the visual inspection
burns oil because of how you drive? first time I've heard that lol
