NEW Celebrating Early Color Episodes - Barnabas and Burke

- Barnabas Collins first appeared in episode 211. Now, with episode 295, the color episodes begin. This is a new series and features the first color episodes through back in time to 1795.
There is a great competition between Barnabas and Burke Devlin for Victoria Winters. In this sequence of scenes, Vicki has accepted Burke's proposal of marriage.
Just an FYI - as was the case with the early color episodes, some have been lost. Episode 300 is black and white.

Can’t go wrong with Barnabas in B & W or color. Facial expressions are priceless.
Jonathan Frid's Shakespearean expertise always showed in his performances, as Barnabas Collins. He was just plain good, period.
@@beverlywoade5348 Jonathan Frids role as Barnabas is what kept Dark Shadows from being cancelled in the spring of 67. It also paved the way for a lot more supernatural storylines as the series went forward.

From watching your videos, I would like to point out that the character of Barnabas Collins evolved as the series went on. He starts out being insecure, and angry, then as time went on, he became more relaxed, and reasonable. I feel rather sorry for Julia Hoffman. It's clear to me that she loves Barnabas, but he only sees her as a possible enemy. I liked the way he dealt with Burke and the problem of the "investigation" into Barnabas' private life. Very reasonable, and polite! No wonder viewers liked the character of Barnabas Collins! TFS! ~Janet in Canada
OMG, this was the show, I was ten yrs old when this started coming on, it was on from 3:00 to 3:30, we would get out of school at 3:15 and run all the way home, 3:20 I came thru the door t only catch 10 minutes of this show every day, but it was worth it, it was the talk of school, only 10 yrs old, thanks for the memories.
You must have grown up in the Midwest, because in RST, it was on 4-4:30pm. We would always run that three and a half black to get home and would have five minutes to spare before the show.

To be honest, Black and white was best, why? human color vision is not great in low light so black and white was more creepy.

I liked the way Barnabas stood up to Burke Devlin. I know why Mitchell Ryan was dismissed from Dark Shadows in 1967. I never liked Anthony George 😝. Looking back James Garner(who later played Jim Rockford) would've played a good 👍 Burke Devlin. Same Height, Build, Similar Facial Jawlines. Barnabas will always be the #1 Vampire on D.S.

Yes, Cody. It is called Great Heights. There is a library of copyright free music in the video editing software that I use. I tried a google search without any luck. It is listed in my software as Exclusive Music which would say to me that it isn't readily available.

I never liked that actor as Burke! He was too old and not that nice looking! I wish they would had found a younger, nicer looking replacement!
Yes, Mitchell Ryan was born in 1934, Anthony George in 1925. Ryan was replaced by George who was nine years older. Perhaps George was cast because he was in the same age bracket as Jonathan Frid, who was born in 1924, and Louis Edmonds, who was born in 1923. However, Ryan had the granite type of resolve that had he continued with the show, Burke would have been able to at least, coldly stare Barnabas down, even more so than he did with either Roger or Jason McGuire.
He wasn't going to "stare Barnabas Collns down" once Barnabas gives him that vampirism gaze he gives his victims just before he attacks them.
