    At 6:30, it makes no sense to me that Angelique told Ben to bring the carriage around at 6 o'clock since that was nightfall. She knew that she had to get to Barnabas BEFORE nightfall. She didn't even ask Ben where Barnabas body was, how long it would take to get there, or if they would need to dig up a grave in order to figure out how long before nightfall she needed to leave. In fact, she should have had Ben bring round the carriage right away. Why did she start packing instead of having Ben take her immediately to where Barnabas was laid to rest? She could have packed after she returned from staking Barnabas. This was just sloppy writing. Angelique is smarter than this. The writers could have had Ben return with the stake shortly before nightfall so that Angelique had no choice but to take the risk and go to Barnabas near nightfall.

    Is Angelique really surprised Ben believed Barnabas was justified in shooting her? She's treated him like crap ever since she enslaved him. I still say Angelique plotted all along to manipulate Joshua into bribing her into leaving town with her talk of travelling and bringing 'new friends' to the estate (to Joshua they would be only outsiders to him). With Barnabas gone, what was there to keep her around? Not to mention the fact she wouldn't want to risk somebody else catching wise to her and expose her, even if Vicki was the one under suspicion and in jail at the moment. Angelique arrives way too late to stake Barnabas. Did she really think she could still control Barnabas now that he has risen? Then again, did Barnabas really think he'd be rid of Angelique once and for all after he did away with her? I mean, I don't blame him for wringing her pretty little neck for what she had done to him, but he should have taken into account that since she was a witch, she could very easily return from the grave (which she eventually did).

    The make-up is impeccable for the women, both Kathryn Leigh Scott and Joan Bennett look gorgeous. And even though I've seen the death scene before, i don' think I realized until now that the last words Barnabas heard were those of Josette telling him she will wait for him. That is probably part of why he was so obsessed with her when he finally got let out of his coffin in 1967.

    Usually Angelique is on top of things, but not in this case. If I were her, immediately after learning of Joshua's plans to bury Barnabas in secret and tell everyone he had left for England, I would have cast a spell on Joshua to make him unconscious with a fever before he had a chance to implement his plan. The others would think that Joshua had contracted the plague from Barnabas. With Joshua incapacitated, Angelique would have time to stop Barnabas' burial and to go into town to notify the authorities of Barnabas death. They would send the coroner or a doctor to examine the body and certify Barnabas death. This would effectively thwart Joshua's plan to hide Barnabas death. While in town, Angelique should also engage a lawyer to start the settlement of Barnabas' estate. Since Barnabas had no heirs, in the absence of a will, as his lawful widow, Angelique would inherit Barnabas' entire estate, especially the Old House and the property on which it sits. Recall in episode 395, the deed of the Old House was in Naomi's name, and she gave the Old House to Barnabas in the presence of Angelique as a wedding present. This is why Angelique has a vested interest in thwarting Joshua's plan to hide Barnabas' death. Perhaps Angelique was too distraught at Barnabas' death and impending return as a vampire to think clearly. Usually, however, it is when Angelique is backed into a corner as she was in this episode that she is best at coming up with and implementing a dastardly plan.

    • @BethHarmon-uv7tl
      @BethHarmon-uv7tl 22 години тому

      I'm not so sure this wasn't Angelique's plan all along after Barnabas' death and once he was staked...implying she wanted to stay on in the Old House to coerce Joshua into giving her a huge amount of cash to get her to leave town. I doubt she wanted to stay around and risk being exposed even though Vicki is the one who's taking the rap. Plus, with Barnabas gone, there was very little on the estate to entice her into staying.

    • @luminiferous1960
      @luminiferous1960 21 годину тому

      @@BethHarmon-uv7tl When she inherits the house, she can sell it and leave town a rich woman without relying on Joshua to give her money. Putting a spell on Joshua to incapacitate him is more reliable than trying to coerce him given his well known imperious obstinance. She may want to stay around at least until Barnabas rises from the grave to try to convince him to be with her through eternity as she subsequently does throughout the series. With Joshua incapacitated and given her legal claim to Barnabas' estate, who would stop her from staying in the Old House and hiding Barnabas and his coffin there in the basement until the court settles her inheritance? Certainly not Naomi, since she full well knows that she gave Barnabas the Old House for him and Angelique to live in. Naomi has had no quarrel with Angelique and has no idea of Angelique's true nature.

    Touching scene between Barnabas and Josette. So sad when he dies as she watches. She vows to wait for him, even as Natalie dismisses it as wishful thinking and a fool's dream. Joshua's reasoning as to spread the lie that Barnabas went to England rather than die from the plague is understandable, but he would have had to really do some hard talking to convince the doctor who examined Barnabas not to say anything. I know Joshua would not have said that Barnabas had died to anyone outside the family, but the doc would almost be curious as to what Barnabas did have if it hadn't been the plague. Dear Angelique, Joshua never gave you a chance because you never deserved one, and your husband's death, courtesy of your curse, proves that more than ever.

    In episodes 814 and 1815, Barnabas looks more human than his usual vampire self. Guess the eyeliner wasn't available that day, lol. Petofi is prepared to put on the squeeze onto Barnabas until he agrees to take him to the future. Barnabas was only half truthful to him. While it's true it had never been his intention to go to 1897 (he merely wanted to confront Quentin's ghost), he does know he got to 1897 through I Ching. Now, I know nothing good would come out of Petofi getting to 1969, but it should have been obvious to Barnabas that he was risking David's life, maybe even the whole future of the Collins family, if he didn't at least throw Petofi a bone. Telling Petofi about the I Ching certainly wouldn't guarantee that Petofi would pick the right hexagram in getting there. Tim really is getting to be overbearing and obnoxious. He was so callous to Nora. Like I've said before, I believe the hand changed his personality for the worst, it's made him drunk with greed and power.

    Angelique is a piece of work. She knows Barnabas is very likely dying at this point, and has no conscience at all about threatening him over Josette on his deathbed. No wonder he doesn't want his 'loving, devoted wife' anywhere near him in the time he has left. Sweet scene where Joshua apologizes to Barnabas for the way he treated him over his marrying Angelique. Though Barnabas has got to be thinking at this point he should have listened to his father about her. The last thing Vicki should have done was to tell Josette about the book. No matter how skeptical Josette was to her claims of innocence before telling her about the book, all Vicki did by mentioning it was making herself look even more guilty in Josette's eyes. I appreciate Vicki wanting to prevent Josette's demise, but the way she went about it was just too stupid no matter how you look at it.

      @@BethHarmon-uv7tl It depends on how one views time and time travel. In my view, the entire timeline - past, present, and future, including all time travel loops - exist. This is based on Einstein's 4-D block universe concept.* In this case, Vicki's existence in 1795, and the events associated with her then, like her warning Josette, happened then, and there is no other version of the past that happened and then was changed by her time travel. Furthermore, one conception of the eternity that spirits inhabit is that it is an existence outside of spacetime rather than just an existence through an unlimited amount of time. Outside of spacetime, spirits can see the whole of the block universe and the timeline that was theirs within it. C.S. Lewis presents such a view of eternity being outside of space and time in his book Mere Christianity. This is how Josette's spirit knows about Vicki's trying to help her in 1795, and then projects herself from eternity back into spacetime as a ghost to help Vicki at the appropriate point in the timeline. Of course in the block universe concept, Josette's projection into the timeline as a ghost also already exists in the block universe. Everything past, present and future just "is" in the block universe. *More details about the block universe: Albert Einstein's theory of relativity suggests that time and space are woven together to form a four-dimensional space-time continuum, or "block universe," that encompasses the entire past, present, and future. In this concept, all events that have happened and will happen already exist, and the past, present, and future are equally real. Einstein's equations imply that everything in the block universe is predetermined by the initial conditions of the cosmos, and that surprises only seem to occur. In 1955, Einstein wrote, "For us believing physicists, the distinction between past, present and future is only a stubbornly persistent illusion."

    You know what nobody says when we hear Edith talks she really was talking about Gabriel and Daniel’s relationship in 1840!!!! Daniel couldn’t stand his youngest son

    As Barnabas lays deathly sick, his parents argue about where Barnabas could be. Naomi doesn't believe Barnabas would run out on his wife, while Joshua believes that Barnabas and Josette have run away together. Joshua wasn't entirely wrong. It had been Barnabas' attention to meet up with Josette in Boston once he disposed of Angelique (obviously it didn't work out that way). Love how Joshua pretends not to care wherever Barnabas may be or what may have happened to him. This annoys Naomi who walks out of the room, but once she's gone, we see Joshua contemplating what his son is up to. Whether he admits it or not, he does still care about his son. It's just his damn pride won't allow him to show it or admit it. Barnabas calls out and Josette runs to him. She's devastated to see how ill he is, and to find the marks on his neck, not knowing where they came from. The doctor recommends moving Barnabas away from Collinsport off to somewhere to die so no one else will be in danger of 'the plague'. The Countess does her best to talk him into allowing Barnabas to stay put and not to say anything to anyone. I have to wonder what Angelique had up her sleeve now that she knows her little potions cannot cure Barnabas. I think she may have resigned herself to the fact that he'll die and she will have to do something about that after he does.
