In this episode of Brad & Lex, Brad's eyes remain cautious and trance like as if to tell the song "I dont know you" while Lex dives right in to the drum rhythm and blues rock infused atmosphere pool displaying a "hyper bop" as Brad's signature "side to side sway, (which wasn't really there to begin with) seems to lose enthusiasm towards the end.
"I don't know what a custard pie is. It sounds like a creamy intimate activity." LMAO!!!! That's going to stick with me for a long time, thanks, Brad! :)
Crunchy for sure lol. Top five LZ tune for me. Filthy guitar and harmonica solos on top of that crunchy riff. Opens the legendary Physical Grafitti double album. Love it!
"In The Light" off of the same album as Custard Pie - is an essential track from Led Zeppelin. Despite being a favorite of each member of the band they never Played it live as John Paul Jones felt he couldn't replicate his part adequately. JPJ is definitely the un-sung hero of Led Zeppelin. He had a heavy hand when it came to the arrangements, in particular with any orchestration. "No Quarter" is definitely another highlight of his.
Or maybe he doesn't? The right answer, he should have just turned to his beautiful wife and said, "Now come on girl, don't be kidding these folks. You know darn well how much I be loving your sweet custard pie! Sames goes for the pound cake too!"
One of my favorites because it starts off their greatest record, Physical Graffiti, and its where I came in with them. I bought the double album with my cigarette money, and this song came roaring through the speakers. And it took off from there. There will never be another Zeppelin.
Basically, EVERY Led Zeppelin band meeting- John Bonham -can I get a longer drum solo? Jimmy Plant -can I get an extend guitar solo? John Paul Jones -can I add some keyboards? Robert Plant - do I get to sing about Va Jay Jay Walker? Next song - Alberta Hunter - "My Handy Man Ain't Handy No More"
The part at the end when Plant sings "I'd sure like a piece of your Custard Pie" sounds like he is actually singing "I'm chewing a piece of your Custard Pie."😀
You guys are so hilairously innocent! Avoiding the obvious slang for a certain sexual activity. However, still love Brad's "creamy intimate activity". That last instrument was a harmonica.
Do Led Zep reactions all day every day as far as I'm concerned! :) These double entendres were typical of the blues music that the bands of the time were influenced by. Remember they were young folks too back then!
UA-cam thought I might like your channel......... HOW RIGHT THEY ARE! First reaction I've watched, loved it. Brad listens intently while Lex feels the song flow through her. You have a new subscriber guys 👍🏻
Great tune. If u gonna dive further in to the Zep, u gotta be hitting 'In my time of dying' album or live version, 'Nobody's fault but mine' studio version and 'Achilles last stand' studio version. By the way, I'm the guy who sends donations from the UK via paypal sometimes under different email. Love the channel guys.x
As the band toured around the world over and over, there were stops along the way where special ladies lived. While she made a wonderful custard pie, it was the reward for stopping by and saying hi.
If you don’t know what Robert Plant was talking about you need to check out Pearl Necklace by ZZ Top. 😂 I first heard this song in 1975 and I had no idea what it meant but I liked the music. A few years later I figured it out. 😂
I always enjoy you reacting to Led Zeppelin. My favorite Zeppelin song is Babe I'm Gonna Leave You (there's a great live version titled Danmark Radio 1969 - you get to see a young Zeppelin with all of their raw talent ) and my 2nd favorite song is: In My Time of Dying - where you get to hear how amazing Jimmy Page and John Bonham were together. I hope you react to those 2 songs some day. Thank you for your reactions.
"Creamy intimate activity", now there's an image! I've had coconut custard pie many times, but not just plain custard. It's good warm or from the fridge.
You can tell that Brad doesn't hear any of the music being played. He's just reading the lyrics. I don't know how anyone can't FEEL the music being played and enjoy whatever words you can make out in the process. That's how we all LISTEN to music, except for Brad.
So the lead singer, Robert plant, was playing his harmonica towards the end there. And yes, "Custard Pie", means what we all know it means in slang terms, so I'm told.
Pretty much. Reportedly, the song is a mishmash of different blues recordings, including Blind Boy Fuller's 1939 "I Want Some Of Your Pie" and Brown McGhee's 1947 "Custard Pie Blues." I
Really enjoy your reactions! Highly recommend Ten Years Gone as your next Led Zeppelin reaction, great vibe for Lex and deep message for Brad! I think you'll really enjoy it! Happy holidays! Y'all keep up the great work!
That harmonica Outro just kills at the end of the song, along with the drums which are relentless of course. Geez guys Custard Pie is a metaphor... c'mon.
Just when I thought all of the true gentlemen of the internet have long since moved on, I see comments like this. Thank you, gentlemen. Restoring my faith in innuendo.
Custard pie was my favorite. My Grandmother used to make it for me. I asked her for the recipe but she never measured anything. A pinch of this. A little of that. These days the only custard I can get is flan. As to what this song is about , I never tried to find out. It was one of those records that my cousin had stacked on the record changer while we were playing pool. It sure brings back memories of days past. As to what I have been finding out about the other kind of custard pie? Well.... how many hours. - On an other note when i was on a dart team, when someone got down to 69 it was called a Happy Meal.
Yeah, I hope you guys know what "custard pie" is in this song. I mean even straight man Brad should get this. LOL. Robert playing the harmonica. You guys really need to do "Trampled Underfoot" and "In My Time of Dying" from the same album. I know brad hates the live versions but both live versions are fire!
In my opinion, studio version is better for In my time of Dying and in general for newbies, as most Zeppelin Songs are. I enjoy the live ones also tho.
Now you’ve hit one of my favorite of theirs! No one reacts to this song and it’s a banger. Starts off Physical Graffiti perfectly! Phenomenal album, par excellence!
This is one of the many songs Jimmy and Robert "borrowed" from an old Blues player in the American South. The original song is titled Drop Down Mama, by Sleepy John Estes.
Custard pies are made with eggs, milk and nutmeg. My mother always made one for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Custard can also just poured into pudding bowls, no crust necessary.
This is another variation of the Bo Diddley beat. Lots of 70’s rock songs used this. George Thourogood, Springsteen. Check out the great original Hey Bo Diddley!
lol - Brad is like WTF I dont know what that is lol I spit my coffee out when he said creamy intimate activity lol and I knew Lex would have something crunchy to say :)
that instrument at the end is a harmonica, mic'ed and recorded through an amp like a guitar, with distortion/oversaturation applied, like with a guitar
"Crunch" or "Crunchy" is an actual sound effect that musicians can create with guitar pedals played through their amps. The pedal effects can be used with other instruments played through the same systems. Very good!
Zep has such a wide range of musical moods, sounds all top notch a class all unto themselves, I really recomend Fool In The Rain from their last album , it's a really great song and very different shows the range off quite a bit.
Great reaction 👍. Check out some Black Country Communion 'Live over Europe'. Jason Bonham, Glenn Hughes, Joe Bonnamassa, and Derek Sherinian. Band that you might be able to see live.🎶🎸🎵. Any song from that concert.👀
S.O.D. - Milk This was a side project featuring Anthrax members Scott (guitar) and Charlie (drums), with former Anthrax bassist Dan Lilker, and a vocalist named Billy Milano, who would form M.O.D., a very similar band. The bands' names mean Stormtroopers Of Death and Method Of Destruction. Both were considered "crossover thrash" bands, essentially a merging of hardcore punk and thrash metal (which is already influenced by HxCx punk 😄)
Ten Years Gone 1973 MSG Live - Song REmains the Same and the Rain Song 1973 MSG Live - Since I've been loving you what you should view next for Led Zeppelin

Love the recaps! 😂
Hahahah Brad knew right away!
Wow, I mean this most sincerely.... You're good, that was nice
Yeah, that was perfect! They should hire you to add notes to their reactions. lol.
The guy just ain’t feeling it, but you can tell that girl got rock n roll in her soul.
First rule of Zeppelin lyrics: If it sounds dirty, it is
Like with For Your Life lol
I may be wrong, but I read that For Your Life was actually about a friend of Robert Plant who was struggling with drug addiction.
@@daymoncleveland0622 Sounds like it's about snorting cocaine to me. Especially the part "don't you want, don't you want cocaine, cocaine, cocaine?"
Hahahahahaha...dam right...
Cock Rock at it's best.
I lost it when Brad said ‘a creamy intimate activity’ Pure gold!!!
"I don't know what a custard pie is. It sounds like a creamy intimate activity." LMAO!!!! That's going to stick with me for a long time, thanks, Brad! :)
And……he’s essentially correct, haha!
YES!, that made me burst out laughing
"A creamy intimate activity" .. couldn't have said it better myself!!
Lex.. you wanna dance girl! Love you guys!!do
Yeah, it's sure gonna stick cos it's sticky haha
Custard pie is a women's naughty bits, and drop-down means, eating custard pie.
... and it better not have no crust!
😱😵😖 Eeeew!
I’ve had plenty of custard tarts with Nutmeg.
Whoop Whoop!!! Niiiice!!!!
Mr Knowitall... your name does you right!!! You know!!!!
Which makes it even funnier when Lex asks him if he’s eaten one! Halarious!
Growing up listening to this song my uncle playing this I still listen to these old songs
Crunchy for sure lol. Top five LZ tune for me. Filthy guitar and harmonica solos on top of that crunchy riff. Opens the legendary Physical Grafitti double album. Love it!
And the bass line is epic. Musical genius all around
Lex: "Have you ever eaten a custard pie?"
Brad: "I'm not gonna answer that question!!!"
LMFAO!!! Good answer Brad!!
My favorite part. 🤣
Maybe she should have mentioned "Chocolate Pie"! Yum yum...
"A Creamy Intimate Activity" lol /facepalm
That's probably a no 😆😆😆😆
Seems like she would know.
One of my favorite songs to play on drums! John Bonham has such a killer feel & groove
Great guitar riff.
Lyrics are definitely not about mothers baked goods.
More about her clammed goods
unless you're into the taboo stuff
😅😅
One of the greatest drummers right there. Totally supporting the song...you won't notice him unless you're listening out like me :)
I can play the fills, but I don't understand them!
Don't forget Jonsey.
"In The Light" off of the same album as Custard Pie - is an essential track from Led Zeppelin.

Thank airing for no quarter reaction! Wish they’d check out some live versions of zep as well.
If we're talking about great live Led Zeppelin performances - it's hard not to mention " Achilles Last Stand " 1979 at Knebworth. . Incredible stuff.
In the light is real good. Could say more but...
Bass is highlight on this song.
In The Light is a total gem of a Zeppelin song. Just sit back and enjoy
Come on Brad. "I still dont know what custard pie is." You know. I know you know.
There will never be another Zeppelin.
the greatest studio album of all time.
@@Tonysmithmusic , I'll second that

I’d always thought that too. 🤓👍
shit! me too...that was my always my favorite part! lol
Yeah I'm still convinced he's singing "I'll chew on a piece of your custard pie"... other lyrics sources back this up!
Chew on a piece o yer custard pie…
You guys are so hilairously innocent! Avoiding the obvious slang for a certain sexual activity. However, still love Brad's "creamy intimate activity". That last instrument was a harmonica.
That was one bad ass harmonica solo.

The Rover , Led Zeppelin classic under appreciated Genius!!
No one else like Zeppelin Undefeated undisputed and unforgettable!!!
I subscribed long before the end. Enjoyed your reactions and banter, and of course the music. One of my favorite songs!
“In my Time of Dying” is a MASTERPIECE 🎸🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Check out “In my time of dying”, not real fast but a lot of good riffs and smooth transitions! The lyrics are meaningful too.😎
I have been hoping they would do it. In my opnion one of zeps best songs. I prefer studio for first listen.
Bonham's drumming on it is great, too.
I never done nobody no harm, no sir, never done no harm.... A great song, one of my favorites, by any band ever, definitely a top 10 for me
Love the banter between you two, especially when double entendre’s like in this song come up. 😂

The beauty of Zeppelin is their variety.
Brad’s definitely on to the innuendo in this one and the Lex finally caught on, ha
"Hey Mum, I've found another song that mentions food" "That ain't food son"

When led zeppelin came out it was all over the definition of rock and roll is led zeppelin best band ever to walk planet earth case dismissed

My goodness that was funny for a while. You guys killed it with the comedy of custard pie! That was awesome. So funny!
This song has an awesome groove to it. Hip swinging you could say.
As always Lex gets it, completely into the rhythm and vibe
Oh yes indeed, I've had my share of ""custard pie" of course there's always room for another piece

You said the song sounds crunchy. Crunch is a term for the iconic distorted guitar sound that gives these oldschool songs their aggressive sound

Custard Pie, Jelly Roll, Sugar Bowl...

"Crunchy" is a word I've been using for years. It's my favorite word to describe something excellent and it definitely applies to this song.
I’ve always loved JPJ weaving the Clavinet ( type of keyboard) throughout this classic. The cherry on top. 🤘
That was a blues harp playing. A harmonica.
One of led zeppelin lesser known gems doesn't get enough air time
I just love her getting into the music. She loves music as much as I do.
This is my favorite Zeppelin song. It's super catchy
You two crack me up😂😂😂
Epic guitar solo: couldn’t describe it any better myself. 😂
Brad, Zeppelin lyrics are 75 percent about women, 24 percent about hobbits and vikings and 1 percent about lemons.
Raunch and roll, gritty and dirty! Saw them in 1977, very lucky.
