    This is my favorite Zeppelin song and it makes me sad that most people have never even heard of it. This song is the definition of epic. The sound in this song takes you on a journey and the lyrics are so reflective. Another thing that makes this great is that there are multiple ways to interpret what it means. All these things give the song such a pure Zeppelin vibe.

    This what Plant said: Let me tell you a little story behind the song "Ten Years Gone" on our new album. I was working my ass off before joining Zeppelin. A lady I really dearly loved said, "Right. It's me or your fans." Not that I had fans, but I said, "I can't stop, I've got to keep going." She's quite content these days, I imagine. She's got a washing machine that works by itself and a little sports car. We wouldn't have anything to say anymore. I could probably relate to her, but she couldn't relate to me. I'd be smiling too much. Ten years gone, I'm afraid. Anyway, there's a gamble for you. My comment: 10 years before this song was written Plant was only 16.

    • @pastorofmuppets22
      @pastorofmuppets22 Рік тому +2

      Context.In those days,most people didn't finish high school.By 16,most were working full time.In those days,you could fool the military and join at 16 as many people did.In countries where the drinking age is 18,in those days they'd serve a 16 year old.Many were considered emancipated at 16.Many people got married,and or had kids by 16.So while it may seem a bit weird or far fetched by the standards of 2022,it wouldn't have been in the late 1950's or early 1960's

    • @davidcarter4247
      @davidcarter4247 Рік тому +1

      @@pastorofmuppets22 We are talking about the 1960s, not the 1860s. In the 1960s to marry in the UK under 21 required the parental consent. 16 was the minimum age with consent which was also the age of consent. Plant and Maureen were 20 when they married. Maureen, a nurse, supported him financially before Zeppelin but he did work for her father at one stage under pressure to earn money. The woman said to be Plant's girlfriend before Maureen was Maureen's little sister. She was 12 in 1964 when the song was written.

    Jimmy Page had originally intended the song to be an instrumental piece; he recorded around 14 guitar tracks to overdub the harmony section.[5] Robert Plant later added lyrics, which are dedicated to an old girlfriend who, ten years earlier, had made him choose either her or his music. Plant explained this in an interview in 1975.

    This has always been up in my top 5 Led Zeppelin songs since I first heard it at 12, it’s towards the end of the 4th side of the Double LP “Physical Graffiti” (My favorite Led Zep release) which is absolutely loaded with great songs, but then this one caught me off guard towards the end and always really moved me with its dreamy lingering guitar and short bursts of energy.
    This is definitely one of those refreshing Led Zep “deep tracks” that was never played in heavy rotation like their many “hits” that would always get radio airplay.
    Rounding out my Top 5 Led Zep, in no particular order would also include: “Achillies Last Stand”, “In My Time of Dying”, “Out On The Tiles”, and “How Many More Times?”

      @@stanflahaut1893 I agree there is some good music out there. As a musician I’ve been into music my whole life…I’m 64. But music today has largely been ruined by record companies. So much of it is formulaic, whereas the music of the past had much more freedom of creativity. You don’t see much 6 minute…10 minute…19 minute tracks today.
      Back then you didn’t have to search for good music. It was everywhere. On the radio or deep album tracks it was everywhere. No cherry picking necessary.

    There’s something about Led Zeppelin where it sounds old and new at the same time. A lot of music from that era is dated but I swear someone could make these albums today and they would have the same impact now as they did then.

    Well.... are you sure you're ready for Physical Graffiti?
    There are some deep songs and some hard songs and some quirky songs on these two records.
    As always, you will never find a bad song on this or any Led Zeppelin album.
    There will be songs you don't really understand why they would record a song and songs that won't click with you until you've listened to it 3 or 4 times, then you'll have an Epiphany while you hear it and you'll say ooohhh! This really is a jam. LOL
    I can easily recommend every song oj this double album but a couple tracks that I think both of you will like for different reasons, are NIGHTFLIGHT, DOWN BY THE SEASIDE, IN THE LIGHT, and the final track SICK AGAIN.
    There are no bad songs and you've reacted to a few already that are the more often played tracks, but the DEEP tracks are always Zeppelin's real classics

    Easily my favorite song in Led Zep’s catalog and also one of my favorite songs, period. Everything about this track is otherworldly and majestic while also being melancholy and nostalgic. This song speaks to me and I do indeed pine on former and lost loves when I hear it, and I often wonder if those ladies hear it(or some other song special to them) and think about me every once in a while as I do them.
