I think that the 2013 sets with the DVDs have an alternate packaging as well. Not like in artwork or anything but in how the case that holds discs works. You have a case that has the disc holders for each individual discs. I bought the original trilogy pack in January of this year and instead of holding each disc individually it has a normal disc holder on each side of the case but each one is deeper than usual so it can hold the three Blu-Rays on one side and the DVDs on another. Its not really a big difference but its interesting nonetheless.
I love this webseries you got here man. This is something I find really intressting and something I may start collecting in the future. I've done some reserch on this myself but it was nice to get everyting in one nice package and set to see the evolution of Star Wars on home video.
I have the prequels & originals on the 2013 Blu Ray/DVD Sets. The reason I got them that way, is I just wanted the films, and it was 20 dollars less. I'm not the kinda person who really cares about bonus features all that much.
Personally, I hope there's one more set of tinkering to the originals by someone, maybe Disney or GL - to fix the little effects errors like Luke's saber in the MF being white/green in ANH and some of the matte boxes they missed around the ships. Maybe also a recoloring of Jabba in ANH to better match ROTJ and TPM (why is he sort of blackish green?). I'd also be game for some very subtle movement/blinking to the cantina alien masks and Yoda, like what Adywan has done on his Revisited versions.
Last week I bought a sealed copy of the individual Prequel Trilogy Blu-Ray set from 2011 at a Salvation Army Thrift Store for $4.00, it is in phenomenal condition, and the discs play perfectly too! It is actually nice to finally have the Prequel Trilogy on Blu-Ray. I already had both the Original & Sequel Trilogies on Blu-Ray. Eventually I want to get the 4K Combo Packs from 2020 of Original Trilogy because they are the only way you can get the new remastered versions of Original Trilogy on 1080p Blu-Ray.
I bought the 2011 prequel trilogy Blu-ray box set but stuck with the 2006 limited edition DVDs for each of the original movies as I always watch the unaltered versions if I watch those.
You gotta make the comparison video, I'd love to see every version side by side showing the differences (I think that's what Disney should do release sets of all six movies in HD containing every version in one convenient package)
I totally agree, though I doubt they'd actually do it. As for the comparison video idea, it's definitely coming, but it will be a while. I just took a new position that has me teaching almost entirely online, which gives me a lot of freedom in how I'm using my time. That will allow me to return to that rather daunting project soon.
Possibly, but not that I've ever run into. I'm thinking it's the lack of publicity for the 2015 version that played into bootleggers' hands, whereas the 2011 set was well publicized.
The version of the 2011 complete saga box in sweden is nicer. It is the same box and booklet and art but is a little wider on the side because it is clear blue plastic that holds each disc in place and also opens as a book. Plus each disc instead of white have character art on them. Looks like this ua-cam.com/video/koIn0oj7Sdg/v-deo.html
I think all European releases of that box set look like that. I have a Polish release and it looks exactly the same. You may want to know that the discs themselves are identical to the German release, which upset quite a lot of people because the lossless DTS-HD-MA sound options on those discs are for the German dub only. The original English audio is lossy compressed DTS-HD - which is obviously still awesome quality, but some hardcore fans felt that they are missing something. On a side note, the Polish (and German, but that's likely just cutting costs so that they have fewer disc masters to deal with) 2011 Blu-ray box set premiered the first ever Polish dub of the OT. The prequel trilogy was always available dubbed here, both in theatres and on home video, but the classics were always either subtitled or translated using a one-man voice-over (may seem weird to you, but that's how we usually see foreign films on TV here - just a Polish oddity, also sometimes found e.g. in Russia). So in 2011, ANH, TESB and ROTJ got dubbed into Polish after all these years.
+Derek Fricke For the U.S., yes, though I would note that for the 1984 - 1987 VHS releases when it was the same release just reissued, I only cared to get one of each, since these days it is virtually impossible to tell one from another when looking on Ebay and such. But yeah, basically. (Do a search for "Star Wars Home Video Timeline 2.0" to see a visual run-through of all of them, though I need to do an update in the next month or so to incude TFA and LEGO SW: Droid Tales.)
+Zach the Sports Guy I wish there was. A lot of fans still have not upgraded to BD and missed the 2013 combo packs and are now falling prey to some rather well done bootlegs. :(
"assuming Lucas really is out of the game when it comes to tinkering with the Star Wars films"
*Laughs in McLunkey*

I hope the when "The Force awakens" gets released on Bly-ray and DVD it may get a film cell collectible.
Awesome as always
I've seen many bootlegs of the 2015 complete saga are they any bootlegs of the 2011 version??

Do you really have EVERY Star Wars home video release?
+Derek Fricke For the U.S., yes, though I would note that for the 1984 - 1987 VHS releases when it was the same release just reissued, I only cared to get one of each, since these days it is virtually impossible to tell one from another when looking on Ebay and such. +Nathan Butler cool! I just got the 2013 DVD releases of 1-3, and 4-6. I got episode 7 seperately
Are the 2013 Prequel DVD's widescreen?
+Andy Garand Yes, they appear to have given up on fullscreen altogether after 2006.
+Nathan Butler in Australia there was never a FULLSCREEN DVDs
I want 1997 version on dvd or bluray
We got hard plastic clamps to hold the discs in the uk much better
If you're talking about the main UK version with the blue pages, that's covered in a later episode.
The complete saga set does have a dvd only release.
Not a legal U.S. release.
+Nathan Butler I just looked it up again and you're right. I remembered some kind of 12 disc set but I must of imagined it.
+Zach the Sports Guy I wish there was. A lot of fans still have not upgraded to BD and missed the 2013 combo packs and are now falling prey to some rather well done bootlegs. :(
