    I like the covers and colour schemes for the films. It's exactly how I imagine the covers when the movies come to mind.
    For episode I-VI I still own the DVDs from 1999-2005

    The company that these are released under is now called Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment. It was called Walt Disney Home Video from 1980 to 2001, and Walt Disney Home Entertainment from 2001 to 2007.

    Already got the 2011 blu rays with three bonus discs. No digital code for my brother's Vudu account, but I'm sure the movies will be on Disney + soon enough for him to enjoy.
    So people still using DVD now have Digital Yoda in Phantom Menace, the one special edition change nobody complains about, my old DVD had that deformed puppet that looked really odd (they should've used the one from Empire & Jedi).

      To be clear: The DVDs have had the 2011 cuts on them since 2013, so that's not something new.

      They're in the DVD/BD combo packs that were released in 2013 and reissued in 2017, though the 2017 ones were short-lived Walmart exclusives and ridiculously tough to find these days. If you don't care about the digital copy, the 2013 combo packs would give everything I - VI from this current batch in more condensed, trilogy-specific packaging.

    I don’t like the fact that these don’t come with bonus feature discs or don’t have them on the movie disc, because how will this carry over to international releases? Also, I will not be surprised if Rise of Skywalker doesn’t have a matching cover for these particular releases, because we all know how the steelbooks were handled! 😓😤

      Lol true

    • @ChronoRadio
      @ChronoRadio  4 роки тому +3

      To be fair, the matching Steelbooks in 2015 were from 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment. They deviated after that because all subsequent SBs were from Disney, not 20th Century Fox. It sucked, but any expectation that they would match back then was without any real grounding for those expectations.

    Wow. That's a fair chunk of money to spend, considering they're all a repackage with identical content. Being a completest is quite an expense.
    I learnt my lesson years ago and now endeavour to have only one definitive release each, for a select number of movies.
    The beautiful design and uniformity of these re-issues is alluring, but I'm going to resist and hold out for the inevitable post Rise of Skywalker 4K box set.
    Thanks for showing them to us and all the best!

      It never went away on physical releases. It was only the digital versions of the original six (except ANH) that ever lost them. (To be clear, they're not on the new films since TFA, given that 20th Century Fox had nothing to do with those at all.)

    I was curious about the contents on these new releases for I-VI and couldn’t find any in my city so this was really informative. I’m a little tempted to dip for these since 20 bucks is the same price for a digital copy on its own, so it and a disc with a nicer cover is a pretty good trade off.

    The thing with Disney is that whenever they release a uniform set of films in anticipation for the next one, when that next one comes out, it doesn't match. They did that exact thing with Toy Story. Also, there is no 4Ks of these, but I bet when 1-7 and Rogue One come out on 4K, they will be these covers and Epiode 8 & Solo won't be redone to match. That's what I noticed with the rest of the Pixar movies and The Incredibles this month. Very annoying. Same goes for Marvel Studios.

      My worry is that it will be the opposite. I have just the single disc DVDs of the originals and prequels, and the 2-disc Blu-rays of the sequels and anthology films. And I'm wondering, on your Return of the Jedi DVD, does the 20th Century Fox music cut out multiple times while it's showing the Lucasfilm logo? That's the case on my copy. I ordered all 6 of those DVDs from Amazon last December, and there aren't any technical issues at all on any of the other movies, and that's the only one present on the Jedi DVD. Nothing like it happens during the actual movie part. If it's on other copies besides mine, then it was clearly a glitch on the part of the Disney home media engineers when they manufactured the disc. But if it so happens that mine is the only copy with that error, then that's just about the biggest enigma I've ever encountered. I can only guess that the shipping process must've had something to do with it.

      We've seen no indication that it's happening yet. If it does, I wouldn't expect digital copies, since that doesn't appear to be a thing in the UK. So it would just be repackaged discs, which might mean Disney figured it's not worth it at this point.

      For 1 - 3, the original 2001 - 2005 DVDs would be best, or the 2008 boxed set that includes all of those. For 4 - 6, it depends on what bonus content is desired. If behind the scenes or documentaries are the main focus, then the 2004 boxed set. If the "unaltered" versions of the films are preferable as bonus content instead, then the 2006 release for 2008 boxed set. The 2019 DVD releases have no bonus features whatsoever for any of the films.

    Hey Nathan P Butler, do you know anything of a Star Wars complete saga set (1-9) coming out? Or if they ever made one that contained EVERY Star Wars film made (all live action and animated movies and tv shows)?

    • @ChronoRadio
      @ChronoRadio  4 роки тому

      There is no official word at all yet on a 1 - 9 set, but one would expect to see something like that either Q2 next year when TROS hits home video or perhaps later in the year, depending on their marketing strategy. As for whether that would be Blu-ray, 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray, or options for both (unlikely in the same pack) is anyone's guess. Either way, it'll be a bit of a high price tag if/when that eventually happens. There has never been one, and probably won't ever be one, for the entire saga in physical form.
      First, the distribution rights are a little murky right now, but I don't believe Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment has the physical distribution rights to the TCW film or Seasons 1 - 5 (only digital rights). There's better news at least for the Droids "films" (i.e. bastardizations) and Ewok telemovies and animated "films," given that the last time they were issued on home video in the U.S., it was through 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment (rather than MGM/UA in the case of the telemovies), which suggests that those rights also came over with the Fox entertainment asset sale to Disney.
      Second, though, it would just be enormous and a relatively high price tag for what amounts to a niche package that would include elements that are Canon and other elements that are not (since the Ewok telemovies, Droids, and Ewoks are all Legends, not Canon), which would probably cause them to shy away from that. A better bet might be a set eventually of all of the Canonical stuff, but even then, it's unlikely. Right now, we're seeing Disney releasing their TV shows mostly just on DVD instead of any HD or UHD format, so for example we don't have a Blu-ray release of Resistance: Season 1, and we're starting to get rumblings that we may see Mandalorian: Season 1 in Q2 2020 also but only on DVD. If Disney stays true to form with that, it would mean any huge set would either be DVD or require new disc authoring, which also hurts the likelihood.
      If nothing else, we can at least home that at some point, we'll see rights issues worked out so that eventually all Star Wars content will at least be on Disney Plus in the highest possible resolutions for each program.

      +Nathan Butler I guess he's talking about HD releases of the OUT (Original Unaltered Trilogy) versions. I'd really like Lucasfilm/Disney to release them officially as well but it appears that isn't coming in the near future at this point. • @ChronoRadio
      @ChronoRadio  4 роки тому

      What gave you the impression that's not what I believed he was referring to? There's not really any other way to interpret "non special edition blu ray." What I'm saying is that typically they have stuck with the same masters over and over again, so the most likely opportunity to see a newly authored disc with what amounts to a new cut of the film (even if it's a restoration, an unaltered HD version doesn't exist in home media authored format yet) would be whenever they are making the effort to move between media types, when they are already tinkering and reauthoring discs or digital files anyway.

    • @justinmiddleton8818
      @justinmiddleton8818 4 роки тому

      +Nathan Butler I'm honestly not sure what gave me said impression, unless i just plain wasn't thinking clearly when posting the above comment. Because what else could "proper non special edition" possibly be referring to? I mean, i'd really like for there to eventually be official high definition restored releases for the unaltered versions of the original trilogy as much as the next person. However, i'm not expecting that being any time in the immediate future given these reissues are more or less just the same versions released since 2011 repackaged yet again in new cases. Maybe they will come out at some point digitally or otherwise, who knows?
      As i mentioned before, the GOUT bonus DVDs may not be the greatest in terms of video quality by being copies of 1993 laserdisc transfers but i'm just glad to have the original cuts in some form to watch. Seeing as they're the version i grew up watching on VHS as a child and thus preferring them over the Special Editions.

      That is false for the U .S. releases. These were released in 2019, reissuing the same copies on Blu-ray as from 2011 and DVD from 2013, just with new labels. The films all still have "A New Corporation" on both the films themselves and the 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment animation that occurs between pressing "play" and starting the actual film. These do not use the 2019 Disney+ cuts that removed "A News Corporation" and appear on the black-bordered releases from other regions that weren't released until 2020. America jumped the gun on this and released the black-bordered versions early, resulting in a lot of confusion as to how the American copies relate to copies elsewhere.
      The updated 2019 Disney+ cuts that dropped "A New Corporation" finally appeared in the U.S. in 2020, via the Skywalker Saga boxed set at Best Buy and the "Ultimate Collector's Edition" 4K/BD/Digital packs. Even today, the Blu-ray/Digital and DVD-only black-border releases in the U.S. generally continue to just be the reissued 2011 and 2013 discs with new labels. In other words, America got screwed on the black-bordered releases, except for the 4K/BD/Digital ones. There have been sporadic rumors that WDSHE has finally started to restock the BD/Digital and DVD-only packages in the U.S. with updated discs, but we've yet to see definitive proof of such, even when getting discs directly from WDSHE. Either way, it wouldn't impact the products in this video, which are from the massive reissue wave from Sept. 2019.

      It's a Decent Image but I would've gone with that Image of Anakin marching towards the Temple with the Clone Troopers or the Mustafar Duel.

    Never buying any of these again on any format until the Theatrical Editions are released. I can't stomach the Special Edition garbage.
