- This video explains why a Audi/VW 1.8T AMB engine may has a lack of power, very slow acceleration and timing trouble codes (P0341, P0016, and misfire code P0300).
Here is a link to the pic of the camshafts:

I had the same problem. Used car about a month with that bad timing. Then fixed and works like new. :D
did you notice that the car vibrated on acceleration and had a slow acceleration? Mine seems to really lag off the start. thanks
Bro. Thanks a bunch for this information. What you described on the video is the same problem I got with my Audi A4 b7. Many thanks.
Your engine is SUPER clean! Which oil you use?
Nice video pal, can I ask did you find that your engine was shaking slightly at idle because of this timing problem?
Yes, that was definitely a symptom of the cams not being in time.
@@stuiesgarage thanks that's great to hear as I've had this problem a while now, with the exact same code you mentioned, I just needed to know the shakes were part of the problem for you too
This is def my issue my mechanic just rebuilt my top end on my mk6 golf r and went to drive it and had low power and p0016 but car ran really smooth which was confusing as we were tryomg to figure out if it was a boost leak or something sensor wise
i had the same problem, used it for 3 years :D one day i decided to do timing belt, chain + tensioner, clutch etc... and then i noticed i have only 15 links between :)
Mine has no codes, just a slight flat spot on acceleration somewhere between 4 at 5000 rpm
How did you rotate the engine crank while still in the car? To check the camshaft alignment marks?
I shouldn’t have but I rotated it from the exhaust cam bolt before removing the timing belt.
I got same problem
Is "check engine " lighting to you ?
Humble mechanic has a video on timing this engine and contrary to what I understood from you he said that when the engine is timed correctly one of the cam notches should line up and 1 should not.
This is true, I believe I talk about this in my video, I just state it differently.
See the link in my description.
I saw that video too. You don't get both ligning up, only one does.
Ive taking the intake cam out it's just hard to figure out exactly where to place it because it moves when you re tighten it. Any advise?
Just go litle opsite side (half link )and when you tight it' will be exact .Same thing with timing belt .
Very bad and stupid system with timing marks on that 1.8 t engines ,anyway 😏
Hello, thanks for video and information. I have power loss on my 1.8adr ,do you think its the same problem? Error says :00515

Sensor is good and cable
Did u find the solution and if so, what was it?
Thanks for the video
Hi! can you help me ?1.8t auq 180hp vvt leon, I changed everything, chain, belt, oil pressure, good camshaft sensor, all the reasons and it throws the error code P0012, what could be the problem?

Me too i change everything and the problem its not solved 😢😢
very hard to disappear, i have a built motor and the oil pressure it's just not enough. I run 10w60 now
@@akalimain-m3u.
so basically the timing marks weren't aligned? you're lucky it just ran bad and didn't bend valves or worse
Yeah, being off just a tooth was fine, glad it wasn’t more.
My 1.8t Looks like yours, but there is no fault in the System. Do i have to fix it?
Have a video on how to fix the bad timing??
No, but I know that there are a few videos on UA-cam that show how the timing marks should be aligned.
You can also unbolt the intake cam caps and take the intake cam out without removing the exhaust cam, then you can rotate the intake cam and reinstalled it, you will have to unbolt the cam chain tensioner as well
FixeD much thanks
Nice work.
Quando acende a lampada d chek enginene ok deve se fazer
This is exactly the issue my car is having now.... and now its throwing miss fires and all cylinders
Also to follow up on that, it is throwing p0340 code which is crankshaft position sensor
Hope you can fix it!
@@stuiesgarage I came to vw after owning nothing but subarus for my entire life,, do you think the engine is toast? I haven't run it. I scanned it today after warming it up, would that have damaged the engine?
Just depends on how far the cam chain is off, this is an interference engine so valve could have bent (I’ve bent them before). You could do a compression check to see.

Getting rid of this garbage was the best decision I’ve ever made
Yeah, that time may come soon for me… They’re great when they run well though.
