    Mind blown.....I wish I had seen this last week when I killed several projects from the frustration of the pieces not staying put!

    OMG..this video was just recommended to me via a FB group post. I made 4 memorial glass blocks and I ended up using a total of 5 feet of vinyl due to all my weeding mishaps. I have been so frustrated for two days. If only I had known about this technique. Thank you so much!!!!

    For the life of me, I couldn't figure out how this would be easier than regular weeding,,,,,,but you always have the best videos, and I can definitely see how this would be for anything with lots of little details,,,ty so much! I'm going to try this next project!

    This method is a god send, I had problems with a past design and tried it and it worked. I just tried another design and had forgotten about this method. After 6 unsuccesful attempts at weeding, I remembered this and it worked 1st time.

    Love this tip. I am going to be using it. One question? Can you weed the letters off and use it like a stencil to paint? Instead of using the vinyl directly on the the project? I so need help having to many problems

    • @Expressionsvinyls
      @Expressionsvinyls  6 років тому

      Hi Maria, yes, you can use the vinyl as a stencil as well. It would be the same concept as this one instead, weed out the small letters and then apply it to your board. Once you have painted in the stencil then you would just remove the vinyl. Here is another video we did on stenciling - ua-cam.com/video/dGspTIPWtOI/v-deo.html

    I want to try this, but I am wanting to keep both parts of the vinyl, the weeded part, and the not weeded part. That way I have two separate images. I am guessing I would need contact paper on both sides?

    • @Expressionsvinyls
      @Expressionsvinyls  5 років тому

      It would depend on the image, you can try it to see if you are able to get it to work the way you are wanting it to.

    Is it possible to do the same for intricate designs that need to be placed on shirts?

    • @Expressionsvinyls
      @Expressionsvinyls  3 роки тому

      If the heat transfer vinyl you are using comes with a clear carrier sheet on top of the vinyl, the carrier sheet will act as the heat transfer tape and the vinyl will be weeded off of the carrier sheet just as you would when reverse weeding the adhesive. Some heat transfer vinyl may not come with a clear carrier sheet on top of the vinyl.

    If i do this for Car decals that aren't going to be used immediately, how would you recommend I store them for future use?

    • @Expressionsvinyls
      @Expressionsvinyls  6 років тому

      Hi, if you're doing the reverse weeding like this and then are not going to be using them, just place the backing sheet that you peeled off of it from the beginning back on. That will protect it. Then just store it in a flat area and it will be great to use later.

    Will this work with HTV? I can’t wrap my head around it b/c the “good” side of HTV is against the Carrier Sheet - so the “glue” side is up and would then be against the Transfer Sheet - help. Thanks

    • @Expressionsvinyls
      @Expressionsvinyls  6 років тому +1

      Hi Cyn. With HTV you do not need to use an additional transfer sheet. Most Heat Transfer (all the types that we carry) have a clear carrier sheet. When you cut your image you place that shiny side with the carrier sheet down and cut on the back side. Since you are cutting it this way you need to reverse your image. You do not want to cut through the carrier sheet. That is what holds the vinyl in place. Once you have weeded everything out simply place your vinyl on to your shirt with the clear carrier sheet up. You are now ready to iron it on to your shirt. You don't need to add any additional transfer sheets to it. Please let us know if you have any additional questions. Also, here are a couple of additional videos that you may find helpful -

    • @Expressionsvinyls

      You could still use this technique, you need to make sure what you are weeding out is what you want it to be etched.

  • @joek468

    Hi, Very new to all this, I am having problems weeding very small letters )under half inch) of a design.I don't know if it's the cutter, the vinyl, my technique etc. Almost at point I want to give up, but I don't want to just yet. Someone at an online vinyl supply store said problem is probably that I have a stepper motor machine. 90 percent of lettering come up but lose a few pieces when weeding. Tried 6 times and failed each time. This method should work?

    • @joek468
      @joek468 7 років тому

      P.S. this is on Oracal vinyl's so far. But I want to eventually do logos with small lettering on shirts for company's. Thanks again. :-)

    • @Expressionsvinyls
      @Expressionsvinyls  7 років тому

      Hi Joe, Yes this method will help. Sometimes smaller designs are just too small. If you get your cut settings just right it will be easy to weed. You want to just cut through the vinyl, not the backing. This method does work well with small letters. I also think you will find weeding and cutting heat transfer vinyl(for shirts) is a bit easier than adhesive vinyl.

    • @joek468
      @joek468 7 років тому

      Thank you for reply. I decided to try and tried it about 3 times like in your video after I wrote here ,but it still didn't work. :-( . If you know what I mean by TOP SECRET folder type of font , or if you Googled TOP SECRET font. That is what I am trying to use and the "N" I keep loosing the verticle lines. I think I might try to make them just a bit thicker and see what happens..If that doesn't work then I am stumped. Also what is the best product to use to make those little car window decals that are so popular? That is actually what the application is as well as putting same design on t shirts . I tried Oracal 641, 651 and I think another 6?? number. Thanks again.

    • @Expressionsvinyls
      @Expressionsvinyls  7 років тому +1

      The awesome thing about Siser HTV (the only brand we sell) is the built in carrier sheet. It acts as a transfer tape, so if you were to do this design in HTV you would flip your image, cut and then weed it out just the same as we did after we put on the transfer tape.

      Hi, no, if you are using adhesive vinyl you will not need to reverse the image to cut. You simply apply the transfer tape before you start to weed it. Then turn it over and remove the backing and start to weed. Hopefully this helps.

      Hi, this was a design that we found on Etsy. Once we had the design we imported it into the program we use for our machine. If you use a Silhouette then it would be Silhouette Studio. If you are using a Cricut then you'd use Design Space. Once set up in the program you can send it to your machine to cut. Please let us know if you have any additional questions. We'd be happy to assist you.
