In this video Jessica shows you some tips and tricks on how to master using transfer tape.
In the first example, she uses a 12x12 sheet of transfer tape. We all have a variety of different rolls available as well. We recommend trying out each to see which one works best for you.
In the second example, Jessica takes a roll of transfer tape and sticks her project on the adhesive backing. This is a great method that works great as well.
The last example demonstrates how to use transfer tape on a large project. If you’re interested in looking at our transfer tape, check out our website! goo.gl/yRafGi

Here is another video applying with the transfer tape ua-cam.com/video/EHET9WFzmqQ/v-deo.html
You need to get this part right or nothing else matters.
It worked great for me. Showed me everything I was was looking for without it being an hour long. It got to the point, explained it very well, thank you for sharing this information. It was Perfect. 🌸
Bummer. I waited the whole video to see that.
Yeah. Would have loved to see how well the transfer tape worked on pulling up the vinyl.
I need to learn about applying it WET, so i can accuratly place it over the lettering prior to spray painting it. The letters will be masked and i will spray the area around it.
That roll trick was awesome .. I'm working on a 12 foot long sign and wasnt sure how to use that roll. Thank you.
Thanks for posting this using papers transfer tape. I accidentally ordered a roll of paper tape instead of the clear plastic tape and didn't think I could use the paper tape therefore wasting a bunch of money. Now I know I can still use it!!.
lol! thanks so much fior the video however what then did you do with it. would be nice to see from front to back of a project. sorry I am just a newby!
Hi, on this one we didn't actually put them on anything. However, they would be great on pieces of wood, walls, glass. There are so many possibilities. A lot of our other videos show what the finished projects look like as well. What types of things are you wanting to make?

hi!! thank you for sharing this video :) where can I get big amounts of tape like this in the video?
We currently have 30 foot rolls available on our website. expressionsvinyl.com/transfer-tape/
Yes I using Cricut brand glitter vinyl / transfer tape and also a different maker transfer tape !! I think I am just going to go with black vinyl it will show up better on the water bottle anyway !!! Thank you so much for your help !!! I am new to all of this cricut and vinyl !!! But would like to do more !! I will continue to watch your UA-cam channel !!!
Hi Ranee, unfortunately the Cricut Glitter will only work with the Strong Grip transfer tape that Cricut carries.
this morning, for the first, i used your transfer tape with adhesive vinyl. It was SO HARD to get apart!!! why did it not just peel off easily when i wanted to apply it to my surface? thanks! :)
Hi Fern, we're sorry to hear that. What type of transfer tape were you using? We have a couple of different ones. If you'd like to send an email to support@expressionsvinyl.com or go to this page expressionsvinyl.com/contact-us/ we'd be happy to further assist you with this.
Are you using a regular printer to print the word, like an inkjet printer or a regular printer.
I don't know why I thought this would be a lot more complicated! Thanks from me too, for the straightforward demo and tips!
Glad we could help! You got this!!
I have experience making it much more complicated with the large vinyls. Painfully so. This makes it much more possible to transfer those large pieces.
love the tips!! quick question about when you're using transfer tape to move permanent vinyl to a screen for screen printing. I might be pressing too hard when I get the vinyl and tape together cuz then it doesn't want to let go nicely onto the screen.
what size is that roll and what price does it have?
It is a 12x100 roll, you can find it here expressionsvinyl.com/paper-transfer-tape-roll/
I want a roll as big as yours
thanks for this video i am still checking out everything in vinyls to see what vinyl and adhesive i can use for making the stencils for my DIY tattoos on a cutting machine rather than hand made/cut hoping you can reccomend your best adhesive vinyl and transfer roll for skin for my body painting and glitter etc on kids and adults TIA
Hi Kate, for something like this you could use the permanent or removable adhesive vinyl as it is not on your skin for very long. Here is a link to both of those.
Permanent - expressionsvinyl.com/permanent-adhesive-vinyl/series-51/
Removable - expressionsvinyl.com/removable-adhesive-vinyl/series-31/
The transfer tape that we prefer is the paper. However, you may want to try different kings as we are unsure how it will work with trying to apply vinyl to skin. Here is the link to that - expressionsvinyl.com/transfer-tape/paper/
how do you keep that mask from curling up at the ends cuz i wanna be able to mask decals and give to customer so they can install it themselves. i wanna make sure its presentable
I have a larger oval that when I transfer it, it's full of bubbles. I can't use transfer tape and spray water
Let's start off with how to peel of tranter tape. I've tried using everything to separate it with no luck!!
Did you get your transfer tape from Expressions Vinyl? All of our tape should be easy to separate :)
Hi, great video.
where I can get this application tool and this bottom light blue platform kind of thing that you have used.
It will be very helpful for me.
The mat (or similar mats) can be found at most craft stores. We have a couple application tools here: expressionsvinyl.com/tools-accessories/
Great video! I know you sell your transfer tape but there are many options. Which one did you use in this video?
Hi, it is the Paper Transfer tape.
Here is a link expressionsvinyl.com/transfer-tape/paper/
I’ve searched everywhere for that cutting mat. I know it’s been a long time but do you possibly know what brand to better help my search? I seen you recommended a similar one on Amazon but I really like the color of the one shown on the video and the fact that it does not have the diagonal Lines on them. Thanks in advance!
We got it from Amazon it is a carpediemstore brand.
Thanks for a straightforward demonstration. Folks have lots of problems with vinyl not peeling off the backer sheet. As you mentioned, cutting is probably too deep. Just enough cut pressure to effectively weed is all that's necessary. Cutting into the paper also dulls your blade (Did you ever get caught using your mom's sewing scissors for paper? Lol.) Adhesive vinyl also has a shelf life so old stuff my not perform well. Buying application tape that doesn't have enough tack is not helpful. Even with stronger tack application tape, once the decal has been applied and squeegeed, spray the entire surface of the tape with water or else use a sponge, wait 30 seconds (no longer) for the water to penetrate the tape, and then carefully peel off the application tape by pulling it backwards, not upwards.
I can't get my vinyl to stick to the transfer tape. It just holds on tight to the backing paper!
I have blue words on orange paper; what will it look like if I use transfer tape to put on sparkle paper?
We recommend trying a test before applying it to your project. The results may depend on the tack of the transfer tape. Test a light to medium tack transfer tape.
No settings to apply on different fabrics?
Unfortunately you are unable to use this transfer tape on fabric. The heat setting guides that we have on our website is for many different types of fabric. They will all be pressed and the same heat settings.
After I transfer my design on a product some of the tape residue is left on top of my vinyl design. How do you do the transfer so no residue is left behind?
Try our transfer tape! expressionsvinyl.com/transfer-tape/ Works best with our adhesive vinyl :) expressionsvinyl.com/adhesive-vinyl-sheets-rolls/
Which transfer tape is good and durable for plastic, metal and glass surfaces? The one I found in your website is medium-tack. I need a permanent one which does not leave any traces of adhesive.
All of the transfer tapes we carry are within the medium tack range. The medium tack works well for the adhesive vinyl we carry. Other vinyl brands or lines may require a different tack for best results.
hi great video.... if i am wanting to apply vinyl to a painted or plastered wall do i have to use a low tack transfer tape im worried about pulling the paint or plaster off wall? regards tony
You should not have a problem using it on this type of wall. We would suggest doing a test area to see how it does.
Hello,
Your video was very informative. Can you tell me were to get the application tool to smooth the vinyl?

My friend wants me to make a door decal 24x10. Which vinyl should I use/transfer tape? And would they have trouble putting it on themselves? Can you make a video on this?
Hi Marcia, it would depend on where you were putting it. Typically if it is going indoor then we recommend the removable vinyl. Here is a link to that - expressionsvinyl.com/removable-adhesive-vinyl/. As far as putting it on the surface, again that is hard to say. Just help them understand that the surface is clean and they start from one edge and move across to avoid bubbles. You may want to use a clear transfer tape for that if you are going to have someone else place it on. Here is the link to our clear transfer tapes - expressionsvinyl.com/transfer-tape/clear/. Hopefully this helps.
You did not show us how to remove stubborn vinyl from the carrier sheet.

What type of tape are you using? Does it begin with RT?

A favorite of ours that isn't too sticky and works great on walls is the paper. You can find it here - expressionsvinyl.com/transfer-tape/paper/
Nice video.. does the vinyl tape work on a vinyl that’s already on a shirt and want to remove the vinyl to reuse the vinyl sticker?
This transfer tape is not recommended to use with heat transfer vinyl.
What kind of transfer tape do you use? I have some that is way too sticky and stuck to everything when I tried to put it on
She is using the paper tape here. expressionsvinyl.com/transfer-tape/paper/
Please pardon my ignorance...but what is the purpose of using transfer tape? Couldn't you just use a sticky-back vinyl to cut your design? I am new to die cut machines, still trying to decide if I want one and then of course which one...but it seems like extra work and materials if you have to add an adhesive. Any info would be greatly appreciated! Your vids are great!
Andrea, The transfer tape transfers your vinyl onto your project. If you have a solid image you do not need transfer tape. If you have a word or intricate image the transfer tape keeps the spacing of your image or letters so you dont have to place them one by one.
OK, now I get it. Thanks for getting back so quickly!
Where did u get the large roll of it from please.. and what brand.... I live in Australia. 🇦🇺
We have transfer tape rolls available on our website! expressionsvinyl.com/transfer-tape/
I've been having trouble with my vinyl not releasing from the transfer tape. Is there a type of medium or light adhesive that will work for decals?
The transfer tape that we carry is a medium to light tack expressionsvinyl.com/transfer-tape/
What is the white?
I just purchased your transfer tape but how do you keep from wasting it? For example, i had a small vinyl piece so i cut off just enough for that but then had to go to a large piece and wasted all the tape in between, a little frustrating because i like the tape itself but not if half is going to go to waste
Try using the backing sheets left from used adhesive vinyl to collect unused (and reuseable) pieces of transfer tape.
@@Expressionsvinyls That's a great idea, I'll try that, thank you!
I'm going to look for a video on the different types of Transfer Tape. I see you have used Clear in on video and this masking type in this video. I think it is because of different vinyl 651 vs. 631.
Hi Jeanine, We have this video that goes more into the different types and sizes of transfer tape. ua-cam.com/video/9Kpih1vQsnw/v-deo.html I prefer the paper transfer tape for 651 as well as 631. ua-cam.com/video/9Kpih1vQsnw/v-deo.html
Great video and tips
Question: I have no issues applying the transfer tape to my vinyl, but when I try to peel the vinyl form the vinyl backing they don't come off. What's your secret? Maybe a video on this?
I have the same issue and nothing seems to help. What are we doing wrong
Would this work on plastic such as a hair clipper for a small design and also if I wanted to this to last longer is it possible to spray clear coat on top of the vinyl please?
Yes this would work on plastic. We dont recommend using a top coat with the vinyl as it could interact with the adhesive and make it peel up. If you use vinyl with a permanent adhesive, it will stick well and you wont need a top coat. :)
I bought the clear grid transfer tape roll from your website and I cannot get adhesive vinyl to stick to it. I’ll try the methods in this video. Is there any advice on how to get the tape a little stickier?
Hi Kiara, thank you for contacting us. What type of vinyl are you using with it? Also, what are you applying it to? Please let us know by sending an email to support@expressionsvinyl.com so we can figure out what is happening. We want you to be able to use it. Let us know if you have any additional questions.
thank you! great tips! where did you get your cutting pad? Love the color. thanks!
Hi, they are self healing mats that you can get at your local fabric or craft store. We purchased these off of Amazon.
I did a project recently by decorating a liquor bottle with spray paint and cricut vinyl stickers. I had trouble with the transfer tape it took blotches of spray paint off and the vinyl sticker stayed on. Very frustrated! It ruined my project. Can you give me advice? Oh yeah the transfer tape wasn't even the strong one.
Try using the lightest tack transfer tape you can find. The paint will come off easily. If the vinyl sticker is not a delicate design and can be applied without transfer tape, that would be ideal in this case.
@@Expressionsvinyls Thank you.
@@Expressionsvinyls can you show me how to do that in a tutorial?
I can’t get the cricut transfer vinyl off vinyl letters? I have used the scraper on the front and back and it will not come off the transfer tape any ideas on how to get it on my basket ? I have cleaned with rubbing alcohol too
Hi Terri, it sounds like the Cricut Transfer tape is a little tackier than normal and holding tighter to your vinyl. We have seen people place it on a towel or jeans to make it not as tacky prior to applying it to your vinyl. With it being not as tacky, it will release from your vinyl. If in the future you'd like to try the paper transfer tape, we have found a lot of success with it. expressionsvinyl.com/transfer-tape/paper/

What kind (brand/material) of transfer tape is the roll? I have been trying to find what kind is the material type as opposed to clear vinyl. Thank you in advance👍
She is using the paper transfer tape in this video expressionsvinyl.com/paper-transfer-tape-roll/
I'm having trouble removing the vinyl backing after my project is attached to the transfer tape. The letters are peeling away from the vinyl or actually taking a piece of the vinyl backing paper with them. I've tried two different vinyls and the same problem is happening. Is my cutter cutting too deep?
I'm having the same problem.
can you please tell me where did u get the vinyl transfer
It does sound like you are cutting too deep if the paper backing is coming up with the vinyl. You want to cut all the way through the vinyl but not through the paper backing. Lighten up your pressure a bit and see if that helps.
What kind of transfer tape is that? I’m very new at this and don’t really have a clue.
She is using paper transfer tape expressionsvinyl.com/paper-transfer-tape-roll/

Question on using the transfer tape, I used it over my vinyl and rude on top of the transfer tape. But the vinyl will not ahire to the transfer tape. What can you do? It is driving me crazy.
Hello, Theresa. You may want to check your cut settings. If you can see indentations on the backing of the vinyl from the cuts, sometimes the vinyl will bevel into the backing causing the vinyl to grip to the backing. Another thing you can try is turning the decal over an burnishing it from the backside of the decal.
@@Expressionsvinyls Thank you so much, I will retry. Since I am new at this, it will help me in the future.
Thanks for the tips. Do you have any tips to offer for getting transfer tape onto a massively large wall decal (in pieces)... I only have transfer tape that’s on a roll, but has the backing. I noticed yours does not. I’ll be ordering yours next time, but want to use up what I have. Thanks in advance for your help. I think I bit off more than I can chew with this project😳
Hi Jennifer, it sounds like you have a big project ahead of you. We have done it before with larger pieces like that. The best and easiest way we have found is overlapping the transfer tape a little bit. That will stabilize it while you place it on the wall as well as allow you to apply the transfer tape in pieces. Hopefully that helps a little bit.
Thank you! I did it😀 It was a labor of love, and it looks great. I appreciate your helpful tips.

Can I use the transfer tape on a regular print out paper?
Depending on the adhesive of the transfer tape and the type of paper you are using, it may cause the paper to tear.
Can you tell why my backing paper always sticks to my vinyl? What am I doing wrong?
Hi Julie, there could be several things. Make sure that you are not cutting too deep. Even if you are not cutting all the way through the backing paper, if you are cutting it a little bit it will hold on to some of the cut sections making it difficult to release. Please let us know how else it is sticking and if it is the transfer paper or the backing paper. We' want to make sure you are able to use it correctly.

Hi, we'd recommend that you try a different transfer tape. sometimes different transfer tape will work a little different and release the vinyl better. Hopefully this helps.
expressionsvinyl.com/transfer-tape/
I have the cricut maker just bought very overwhelming how can I make a stencil with the letters coming out the way I printed it for my canvas.
Hi Lupe, congrats on a new machine. When making a stencil you would just need to weed the letters out instead of the excess vinyl. Normally when you cut a phrase, etc you pull the excess vinyl away just leaving the letters. Stencils are opposite that. You pull the letters away and are left with everything else.
Hopefully that makes sense.
Expressions Vinyl thanks a bunch I did that but I also see some people use card stock or paper so how would I keep the centers in
Hi Lupe, there are specific fonts and images that can be used and were created specifically for stenciling. They have a small line connecting down through it so the letters will not come apart.

Can I use transfer tape on HTV after the HTV's been cut? I'm trying to finish a St. Patrick's T-shirt and want to layer shamrocks on top of a tie that's already ironed on the shirt. I can't see the tie when I place the shamrocks on the shirt to line this up properly so I thought I could use clear transfer tape for this. Is this possible or is there another method I can use? I hope this makes sense. BTW I love your tutorials. They are so helpful and easy to understand. thanks
Hi, you wouldn't actually want to use transfer tape because it has a different type of adhesive and it wasn't designed for the heat. If you have done any other heat transfer and still have the clear plastic sheet that you peeled off, it would work great.
Wow you are quick!!! This is my very first project and I didn't keep the clear plastic sheet (I ironed on the tie several days ago). Could I cut around the 2nd layer (Shamrocks) a little closer so some of the 1st layer is exposed underneath so I can try to position the design better or will that hurt the first layer? thanks Jan
No, that would work as well. However, once you have it positioned you will want to put a heat transfer cover sheet, multi use paper or something like that over the top because you do not want the exposed heat transfer that you already ironed on to have direct contact with the iron or heat press that you are using.
I figured out what I did. I missed a step. I didn't peal the excess vinyl from the around the shamrocks. Once I did that I could easily see to position them on top of the tie. I couldn't figure out why all of the tutorials I viewed showed the designs on clear sheets and mine didn't look like that... Geez....live and learn. I won't forget that again. LOL Thanks for your help.

The sheet that has the word "Hello" is the vinyl. It is an adhesive vinyl used on hard surfaces. The white sheet and roll is the transfer tape. The transfer tape is used to transfer the entire image in one piece to the surface you are wanting to apply it to. The adhesive vinyl isn't suitable for clothing. For clothing, you will want a heat transfer vinyl. The heat transfer vinyl we carry doesn't require a transfer tape since it already has a carrier sheet attached. Here is a video overview of heat transfer vinyl. ua-cam.com/video/YaqKLGIIwFE/v-deo.html

Thank you for the feedback!
What do I need to print the words?
Hi Jessica, the words are cut out of adhesive vinyl that was used in a cutting machine such as a Silhouette, Brother or Cricut machine. Once you decide on an image or words you sent it to the machine to cut them. Please let us know if there is anything additional we can assist you with.

Can i use bond paper?
Hi Erica, thank you for tuning in to our videos. Are you wanting to use bond paper in place of the transfer tape? We have always found best results and the best value in using transfer tape since it was designed for this specific purpose.
