There is no better feeling than waking up with a morning coffee sat on the van step, listening to the sea birds and watching the sun come up, casting it's light on the waves on the shore. Really enjoyed this video
Nick is such a gentle Giant ! i thought you were going to end up on the ground beside him when you tried to lift him up !! Beautiful shot of the boats !!
We may not have as many lanes on our roads in UK but despite the potholes we have here I can tell you everywhere I've driven in the US has a lot more and a lot deeper!! :-)
The Palouse, highly recommended. Late spring to early summer seems to be the best while the wheat and corn are green. Bogs: Northern Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan have them; along with mosquito's, ticks, black flies, horse flies, army worms (aka tent catapillars) and other annoying bugs. I prefer the winters there due to the lack of said annoyances but winter brings its' own set of problems. :)
What a beautiful beast that adder. I’ve met a few back here in Norway. They’re quite common where I live. They usually wont nothing to do with you but they do give a bit of a fright when they flee over your foot, while you’re busy setting up! Excellent and honest video today! I liked it and I did like the first image of the tree! Looking forward to more 😀🦊
Good to see even the great Thomas Heaton struggles like all of us to find a composition sometimes :-) Loved the picture of the two shipwrecks. What a beautiful place.
Really nice to watch the videos from all four of you characters. Each of you has your own take on things and the combination of views is intriguing and inspirational. By the way Thomas, looks like the iFootage tripod is no longer with you.??
Additionally, I'm inspired that you can appreciate a moment without raising your camera. I'm trying to get there. My eye, personally, is so attached to my camera, to a fault. Ask my wife. I want to make my photography interest my income stream, but don't know how to shut it off.
Loved Mull. As a n American I thought driving the single track across the Island to the Iona ferry was loads of fun. Kept up with the buses and truck at least.... hope you stopped for a wee bit of whisky... I stopped to photograph those twin lakes. What a “loovely” place.
Tom this is what I love about your vlogs and positive attitude I like how you can be content not shooting an image if a good composition can’t be found rather than rush when the sky is amazing, We can all learn from this positive attitude👍 the tree image is stunning loving the boats to 👌 Btw you are the master at finding those lone trees 🙏
Hey THOMAS! Just started to get into this video after getting back from a 4 day Harley tour through Colorado with GORGEOUS scenery and thought of you. Man, the mountains just out of Breckenridge (possibly the Rockies) were phenominally mind blowing. You may have already shot them but if not definitely a must go to for you. _Scott
I have recently started watching your videos and have really enjoy the content so far. I love the campervan videos where you just head off, and then decide to stop along the way when you spot something that is worth photographing. The one main thing I have learnt from your videos (thus far), is that you don't always have to take a photograph, if you cannot see something worthwhile (something I am guilty of !!). Keep up the great work 👍📸
I was hoping you guys would break out the flashlights (torches) and do some light painting on those amazing old boats. Have you tried light painting? I feel you would be pretty awesome at it. Give it a go! Love that little tree shot!
Fun video and great to see you two together again. At one point you said you couldn’t find any good compositions despite good light. I’ll accept your judgement. However, at 8:40 there was a harbor and boat on the far shore that was lit up by the setting sun. I know that you usually carry a long lens. Given one such lit area, I’d have scanned for more.
Another great video and with lots of humour from poor Nick. Rough tussocky ground, dealing with one of our Scottish bogs and the trauma of single track roads the poor man may never get over this visit but that said I for one hope you will both spend more time in my beautiful country. Thank you.
Looking behind you to the left (over your right shoulder) at the end of the video with the back light reflecting off the beach and the edge of the boat from a low angle I see a nice abstract silhouette shot...
I was there to summit Ben Moore 3/20/14 - it rained all day, snowing and wind on top, soaked to to the skin and hypothermia by the time we finished. Nice to see it with sunny skys. I love Scotland...
With regards to the boggy ground - when I was last in Mull, and squelching around, a local noted that "it keeps the stour doon". Definitiely correct - not much stour on Mull.
Boats look fantastic. Reverse Grad must make that so much easier. Tree shot is great, the grad works perfectly. I am never normally that inclined to grad across a sky. Good to see grads are alive and kicking still. 😁
When not to take a photograph is something I think I am learning more and more these days. Makes the ones I do choose to take that much more special I guess one could say. Glad that you took that photo of the boats though, it turned out very nice, and also a great way to preserve them photographically if you care about that sort of thing!! 👌
I too struggled to get detailed photos of those very wrecks when I visited a few years ago. However I get better light during the evening and got a good shot of them. I hope you found the old jetty just round the corner.
Great first image Thomas. Simple and clean with great subject and foreground interest. Laughed out loud uncontrollably when Nick planted his leg into the bog. For a minute there thought you were going in with him and were going to need Adam or Gavin to pull both of you out.
My hard drives are full of photos taken out of obligation to the effort in getting there, but remain meaningless. It is true that sometimes your eyes capture the best photos and memories.❤
I noticed you weren't using the iFootage tripod, but still had the Acratech head. Looks like a Acratech leveling base under there, but hard to tell. I was looking at getting this set up, what's the story?
It’s great to see you at a place I visited a couple years ago. Them boats wow. I got one of my best ever images from there. It’s on my wall. Take a look on my Flickr haha.
I got to say Tom, I’m really enjoying the funny side of your videos recently, it’s the perfect mix of relaxing photography and surprisingly funny jokes ;) keep this trend going!!!
Thomas, great video. I struggle sometimes with getting the shutter speed right when I have moving images such as trees. Therefore I was quite surporised that your shutter speed for the hillside tree was only 1/100 Sec because the leaves and small branches were swaying in the breeze. I'm not sure how the focus of the photograph would show up in detail, slightly blurred perhaps? Can you please enlighten us poor amateurs!
For a minute there I thought the sapling growing out of a boat moment was taking us back to Patagonia and your Master of Fine Art, Landscape and Outdoor Photography video - I was expecting to see your assistants running around!
Smashing images and loved how the inclination of the tree complimented the hillside slope. Love Mull and looking forward to seeing more of your trip in the coming vlogs
The camera I have to use, a long term loner from a relative, has a lot of limitations. I concentrate on the kinds of images it does well with. The ones I know I cannot capture, I just enjoy to behold. That I could be there and see that is enough when I consider the thousands of years of history when there were no cameras.
Yeah it was raining non stop for the past week. Did the NC500 and it rained 3 of 4 days we spent on the road. At least you got the one day it didn't rain the past week.
Nick, I assure you, bogs & completely soaked/muddy feet (if you're lucky; _if you're unlucky, it'll be up to your knees or waist_ 🙃😂) DOES HAPPEN in the USA...
Didnt know todd Hoffman does photography now, gold cant of been paying the bills 🤷🏻♂️ hundreds of people photography the boats at salen 🤦🏻♂️. try out Iona, calgary bay, fionnport, erraid, uisken bay, staffa island... Give them a look next time you visit mull. Arran has impressive jagged mountains, worth a look too
I've been through the Palouse before and it is beautiful. I've even thought of taking Nick Pages guides there because I was never sure of where to go and if it was ok to be on certain properties.
Please don't take this negatively, but it has been really refreshing to see a video of someone struggling in the landscape and describe why. I hope that this trend does NOT continue however! Hope that the subsiquent days on Mull are more productive for you. Looking forward to the next one. Best.
We have swamps as we call them and they have huge Alligators and Pythons. In the Pacific Northwest where I call home we have Bigfoot and six feet + of rain every year.
I’m headed to Mull in a couple weeks with a Brit friend. Can anyone tell me the specific location of the two beached wooden boats shown in the video? Many thanks in advance for any info.
Thomas, have you seen a movie called "Blowup" by Michelangelo Antonioni? Main character is a thinly-veiled version of David Baily. A meditation on photography / seeing vs. interpreting. A classic from the sixties. Brian De Palma made a film later, called "Blowout", which was similar, almost a remake, but about sound rather than visuals.
Hi Thomas ... where you on Durness beach on Thursday evening photographing the sunset?? .... if so I'm gutted as we where in our Campervan overlooking the beach and thought it was you but wasn't sure (bright orange coat and hat as always)..... would of come and said hello?? Russ Manchester
Beautiful shot of the boats !!
great video. I lacked inspriration the last few weeks and your videos always give it a boost. Thank you!
6:12- Canon is the king of collors, i cant help myself i like so much output from these cameras. Great work!!
We may not have as many lanes on our roads in UK but despite the potholes we have here I can tell you everywhere I've driven in the US has a lot more and a lot deeper!! :-)

My local area in the US is pretty much all swamps that looks like this. Hopped onto a floating stump one time, thought I was gonna die.
My beloved Mull. I was hoping you get there one day. It is beautiful place, I am looking forward to see some my favorite spot through your eyes.
Only two shots - I would have been proud to take either one. Thanks, Thomas.

Dude the Boat Sunrise square shot is great. 👏 Hats off 🎩
His name is Thomas
@@kayakcoder i think he knows
I love your constant eye... See, stop, shoot. Freedom. It's not about country soil, it's about vision and willingness to stop. Well done.
Additionally, I'm inspired that you can appreciate a moment without raising your camera. I'm trying to get there. My eye, personally, is so attached to my camera, to a fault. Ask my wife. I want to make my photography interest my income stream, but don't know how to shut it off.

It's nice that you see that as positive 👍 Many would interpret that as being negative. Thanks a lot.

Nick's right - you would love the Palouse with it's rolling hills in a patchwork of fields, isolated trees, and old, abandoned buildings.
Hint: Adblock Plus for Chrome gives complete answer to the problem.

Loved the tree photo so much detail in the moss but stay simple
The image of the two old boats turned out quite well.
I loved the detail of the close up shots at 14.15.
The sapling would make a good photo with different light.
That shot of the tree turned out killer man. Of course awesome work with the video as well!
Cheers dude. I thought the tree was nice... but then I saw Nick's version 😮
Boats look fantastic. Reverse Grad must make that so much easier. Tree shot is great, the grad works perfectly. I am never normally that inclined to grad across a sky. Good to see grads are alive and kicking still. 😁

"... Something about a lens cloth..." Truly, the bit that keeps on giving!
It will never end. 😂

Love the Salem boats, it has a lovely mood.
Hello Thomas, you made a simple image of the tree on the hillside magical! I loved it!
That wasn’t a bog, that was years of sheep s$&t lol, too funny. Did love that tree
WOAH Thats a big snake...
*laughs in Australian*
Yep, didnt know they had snakes in the UK! Here in Aus we see them all the time!
What's funny though is that he is from the PNW, and when I lived there I saw huge snakes all the time. All of them were harmless, just huge.
@Pete P Made me giggle on the legless lizard bit! Thanks for the information :)
BTW.....I think the boats photo turned out awesome
Another good video. Loved the photograph of the boats.
Best video for a long time ! Great to see you in the wilderness again!

Great images, the image of the boats is especially nice 👍
I got to say Tom, I’m really enjoying the funny side of your videos recently, it’s the perfect mix of relaxing photography and surprisingly funny jokes ;) keep this trend going!!!
the tree man mr A grumpy Gibbs would have loved it as well.. Where was he?
Damn, the image of the boats has stigmatised me...I want one for myself too!!
awesome photo from the boats!!! Love your videos!
The boat phot was very good..... I think the tree shot may have been better suited to B&W?
Thomas, great video. I struggle sometimes with getting the shutter speed right when I have moving images such as trees. Really like the boat picture!
Love the image of the boats!
Love these shots! Especially the tree.

Smashing images and loved how the inclination of the tree complimented the hillside slope. Love Mull and looking forward to seeing more of your trip in the coming vlogs
Look like a fun trip.
Had a giggle to myself about the song playing in the van! 😂👍

I know you didn’t seem too happy with the photo but the shot with the boats is one of my favorites of yours . Great shot.
Yes, Thomas, you would love The Palouse
Yeah it was raining non stop for the past week. Did the NC500 and it rained 3 of 4 days we spent on the road. At least you got the one day it didn't rain the past week.
Nice vid & great camper van. Are those Oakley Fuel Cell you’re wearing.
Come to the east coast of the US, we definitely have bog, and lots of it.
Always enjoy your vlogs Thomas.thnx
I liked the shot of the boats but as much as you had the nice colours of the sky, maybe a black & white would've worked also?
Great photos Thomas. Can you please show your settings? I know you talk about them, but idiots like me like to see...Only if you can..Thanks mate..
The tree image is beautiful...please go back and get a winter shot:)
You might have to Get Nick some snow shoes !!! 😊Greatt work keep it up .
Nick, I assure you, bogs & completely soaked/muddy feet (if you're lucky; _if you're unlucky, it'll be up to your knees or waist_ 🙃😂) DOES HAPPEN in the USA...
Thats the luxury of being a full time landscape photographer, just sitting out a sunset. Happy for you, man! :)
I actually love the shot of the boats Thomas 👍👍
Didnt know todd Hoffman does photography now, gold cant of been paying the bills 🤷🏻♂️ hundreds of people photography the boats at salen 🤦🏻♂️. try out Iona, calgary bay, fionnport, erraid, uisken bay, staffa island... I know you weren't super hyped on these two images, but I have to say I really like them! These are some standouts!
I really don’t know what you are on about! That first photo of the boats are beautiful
I've been through the Palouse before and it is beautiful. I've even thought of taking Nick Pages guides there because I was never sure of where to go and if it was ok to be on certain properties.
What a photo, the first one, that tree is beautiful, I would definitely make it a picture frame for my wall!!!
That's very kind, thank you.
You are very inspiring!! thank you!

Good video Tom, I’ve had feet covered in mud like that a fair few times! Don’t think I’d have got that close to the adder though 😄
Gorgeous photos
We have swamps as we call them and they have huge Alligators and Pythons. In the Pacific Northwest where I call home we have Bigfoot and six feet + of rain every year.
American has swamps, big snakes AND I can take you to some places that will swallow you, just like that bog. Great video, and much enjoyed it. Thanks.
Been watching for a couple years now. Love the content Thomas! I feel as if I am there with you on location.
That's great to hear!!
Nick clearly has not been in Oklahoma. We get our versions of bogs out here.
Jordan Moorman or Louisiana 😂😂
I need to visit Scotland! Beautiful out there ❤
Great one as always, Thomas! Thanks for the inspiration to go out and explore to create images!
I like the boat picture.
Loved the boats, you did good👏👏
That adder is called Hoggorm in Norway.
Can you tell me what tripod you’re using.
Thomas Heaton, Master Tree Photographer
Many countries, many trees.
Nice Tree image I think Nick will bring wayders with him next time :)
Nick needs some CDs to stop his feet from sinking in to the soft ground.
Thanks for your input captain joke killer.
I’m headed to Mull in a couple weeks with a Brit friend. Can anyone tell me the specific location of the two beached wooden boats shown in the video? Many thanks in advance for any info.

I hope you went for a takeaway after the adder to even things up.
I rather liked both images even if you weren’t thrilled with them. Nick is right about the Palouse plus there are no adders and no bogs. Cheers!
