  • I am in Scotland to do wildlife photography and to meet Landscape Photographer Adam Karnacz from First Man Photography.
My good friend Joanna and I have rented a camper van and we are in the Glen Etive area - rarely have I seen something that beautiful. This landscape is absolutely awesome.
I am definitely more comfortable when I am doing wildlife photography but since I am meeting up with Adam, I am definitely also going to challenge myself with some landscape photography as well.
So join us behind the scenes on some of the great experiences we had during the two days in Scotland. this video highlights the best moments😀

Thanks again for a lovely video. My wife is from Scotland and we are planning a photography vacation next summer. She is going to show me all the great spots. We are going to drive up through the Highlands and then ride over to Orkney and the hopefully to Shetland. I think they have puffins on Shetland. I hope to see those beautiful birds and a deer or two! Thanks again Morten for the inspiration!

I don't think I have ever seen anyone who was so joyous about getting soaking wet! I always want a perfectly clear shot. Seeing your photos of the dear obscured behind the grass I can see that it is the mood of the image that is important not necessarily the focus or a clear view of the subject. Thanks!

Fascinating video with Maid Marion naked in the waterfall and a wet camera. That little white lie about ’the coffee’ - we heard it all. Morten, you are the best story teller ever. And the shots of the deer are just beautiful. So we have Maid Marion meets Bambi. Awesome. 😄👌

    Another fantastic video Morten.
I live about 2 hours from that location, it's one of my favourite places to go hillwalking. The deer are so tame because tourists constantly feed them. There was a recent campaign to try and get people to stop feeding them sweets and chocolate etc. There was one particular stagg at a certain popular car park which would approach people and nudge them with his antlers for food. I think the forestry commission actually had shoot it.
I know that you're in no way like that and have a huge respect for the wildlife, just explaining why they're so tame.

Hi Morten. Great footage and nice little adventure. I don't know, maybe it's just me, but this land is offering an amazing and picturesque landscapes which you can just dream about. Even in some rainy conditions. I noticed that all those portraits of deer you photographed are so close, that it even doesn't matter you would took it in Scotland or France. I mean they are great, but i think it's much appreciated also the background, the true environment the animals are living thriving. Seems like it's important only the animal. Yes the closeups are crucial, but today 99 % of wild life photographers are focused just on them. Even the lens you are using is more then perfect. And it's more then perfect for landscapes too. I wish you all the best Morten, you are an amazing and inspiring person. Best regards ;)

The deer in Scotland are amazing, I once saw a massive herd walk right through the middle of a village totally ignorant of everything around them. I also have a shot of the famous leucitic fallow deer of Loch Lowes in a field watching me with it surround by 5 of the usual colour deers.
When Adam want to learn something he comes across as a sponge who wants to soak everything in. I think he enjoys shooting some wildlife as he has done videos of puffins and short birds in the Scottish Islands. I doubt it will ever replace his landscapes though, personally I get equally pleasure from both.
Funniest thing Ive heard in any video but be Morten saying "I’m not a coffee lover…"
I think you got some great landscape shots, especially all things consider such as the wrong kit. A non waterproof lens is no good for any outdoor photography, one thing I like about my Sigma is its build quality.
I great video as always Morten, very well done indeed.

Really enjoyed Morten thank you. October is the time for the Rut here In Scotland most visitors have left and the glens become quiet again apart from the Stags bellowing across the glens but thats the norm and one could never get annoyed or tired of it, thats nature.

Morten Hilmer Hi Morten around mid October the Stags start to descend from the tops as the weather gets colder. One of my favourite places is a Glen known as ‘Kinloch Hourn’ the Glen is a no thorough road and not for people who like to rely on help if getting into difficulties. There are warning signs at the start telling people to be careful. This tends to put most tourists off which leaves the Glen in a nice natural environment. It’s a 22 mile drive to the sea loch at the end all single track, surround by mountains on each side. Wildlife, Stags, wild goats, eagles, buzzards and with the occasional seals/ dolphins at the end if lucky. It’s a very wild place and winter is the best time of year. I would recommend putting it on your todo list it is superb if you like wild places as I know you do. Iam fortunate to live only 10 minuets drive from the start of the Glen, and never tire of venturing down.

Hello Morten, hope you and your family have had a wonderfull Christmas eve.
I got the answer of this question by an old hunter and farmer from the hills a few years ago. These deers can of course see or recognize the difference between a backpacker or a huntsman, a rifle or a walking stick, walking around or sneak and stalk. He drives in the dark with his tractor, lights on, close 20m of 10 and more deers ceeping eatin and grazing and do not escape. Stay lucky and healthy in 2022. Alex from the German Eifel

Hi Morten, I am actually very surprised that this little tripod actually supported your camera and that lens, but you did mention that you were holding it. A fairly good option when not having a tripod is a platypod. It’s a metal base with spikes where you can attach a ball head and can support very heavy loads. It is not a tripod but if you can find a place to put it, then it can give you the stability of a tripod.

Amazing Morten I love Glen Etive I have been visiting the area there for over 20yrs and never tire of the scenery or the wildlife :D
Your images of the dear were wonderful I wish I could have been there too :D Severel years back I visited in Feb and the stags were so friendly then they came within touching distance looking for food!!! I was trying to capture an image of two of them and I had to keep moving away so I could take an image. I only had wide to short zoom lens on too because I was shooting landscape at the time !!! They just kept following me in the end I ended up with a head and shoulder portraite of a stag, It was a magical experience and my favourite wildlife image I have taken :D

Hi Morten, beautiful video as always. I was thinking that if the replacement lens fails again then you might want to check out the Sigma 150-600mm Sport lens as I've heard it has very good weather-proofing. I use the Contemporary version myself but I use a waterproof cover just in case as the Contemporary is not as weather sealed. Hopefully you can make it back to Scotland in the Winter sometime soon.

Yeah that's crazy how close you could get to the deer. Where I live, if a deer sees you, no matter how far away, if it just SEES you, it's GONE, lol. Same with most wildlife.

The best tripod is always the one you have with you. I've used a rock and a log because I couldn't be bothered to carry a tripod. While it worked ok, I would have given anything to have what you had. And given the beautiful images you made, I would say it wasn't too small after all.

Hi Morten, I love everyone of your videos, you photographs are just awesome. You have inspired my so much photographically, looking to plan a trip to Scotland, where is a good place to start as regards location? Cairngorms National Park?

Always a pleasure watching your work and the connection you create with nature.
Is that the new Gitzo mini tripod, very interested in that!
The Tamron is like the Sigma C and has no great sealing.... heard that the Sigma Sport is fully sealed.
Never tried using my 150-600 for landscape photography but good to see it is about the gear you have with you and making it work.

Hey Morten, excellent video, I love your excitement and it's great to see your pictures, I'm really into wildlife photography - I've tried with birds but they are too fast :) maybe next time I'll try with bigger animals, it seem like it will be easier to focus :)
BTW. have a look at Sigma 150-600 Sport - they claim that it has weather sealing - too much of a cannon for me, so I'm using contemporary version but may be interesting for you.

Glen Etive has a resident herd of Red Deer. Before the refurbishment (demolition) of the old Kings House Hotel began, they would often be found right outside the hotel and sometimes ate carrots from the hands of guests. I've even seen people feeding them from their cars further down the glen. They are very used to people.

Great video once again Morten! Turns out I was also looking for red deer at the same time just a few kilometers away in the next glen - I think they had been hunting in that area recently though because the deer were very shy and I was less successful. However, I did get some awesome footage of a pine marten and badger from my remote camera, as well as some nice photos of a dragonfly covered in dew. I've actually made a video story about it, at least partly inspired by your work, and am uploading it to my own UA-cam channel right now while watching this video :)
