Nigel's photos speak for themselves, but can we stop for a moment to think about how much work he puts in these videos. Putting the camera down, walking away, 'making that particular scene', walking back for the camera. Amazing stuff.
And for the first time I could utilize your invaluable tips and shoot photos I'm pleased with. I'm more than happy! Thank you!
The joy with which you approach your “work” is unique among your peers an is contagious. Thank you, Dr. Danson!!
Thanks Nigel. We used to go to Glen Affric for our holidays in pre-teen years 50 years ago. Walking the hills, fishing the river, staying in the hunting cottage by the suspension bridge using Calor gas for light. Great memories of the most beautiful glen in Scotland. Loved the shots.
Three things:
#1 I love the music you used in this video.
#2 One of my favorite things about you, Nigel, is your enthusiasm. I believe it's genuine and not something you're forcing for the camera. There's something very satisfying about watching someone who's having a great time.
#3 The pano was my fave =)
I just love these videos Nigel. The detail you go into about the process of actually taking the pictures, the composition and lighting etc is just so engaging. This channel is an inspiration and I look foreword to being alerted to new content. My absolute favourite photography channel by a country mile.
Scotland. Have to add that to my bucket list now. Loved the next to last photo - simple yet well composed.
“Starter for ten”, was University Challenge Nigel! Amazing scenery the trees are so special.
Hello from NE OHIO, USA!
I really enjoy these videos, Nigel as I’m a retired art professor and the blend of design/composition with technical insights is just near perfect. It provokes me to go out and shoot more. Thanks and please keep up the good work.
This light is better than the light I have to shoot in a lot haha. Because I'm 14 I travel with my parents: this causes me to shoot in midday with often blue/cloudy sky. I would love to shoot sunrise/sunset or fog😁 Great tips tho!
Keep shooting young mate!
forces you to get creative mate keep going you'll be able to go to some nice places in just a couple years all good
Even tho this was commented 4 months ago i just want to say i can agree as a fellow 14 year old photographer 😕
Thanks Nigel! The last one was my favorite actually, they are all beautiful.
You're photography videos are the best on UA-cam. They're so cinematic. That was a beautiful area.
Yes miguel. You did it again. Pleasure video again. Photography great. Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us. All best. Amnon in NYC. 🙏
Hi Nigel. Of all the beautiful places you’ve taken your viewers - This one takes the first price. I have always been infatuated with England, but this I got to see with my own eyes.
Thank you.
Great video and very appropriate with current weather conditions in northern part of Europe.
"Starter for ten." Who'd have guessed Bamber Gascoigne would pass just a couple of days after you posted this!
You’ve inspired me. Going to The Faroes, Iceland and Scotland this year - dream trip
Great! I really enjoy your videos. Thank you Nigel!
Beautiful location, inspirational video with fantastic images, thanks Nigel for sharing. Giancarlo.🙏🙏
Bellissima località, video ricco di spunti con immagini fantastiche, grazie Nigel della condivisione. Giancarlo.
Great tips Nigel. Loved all them shots. I wish you would do a video on all your camera settings one Sunday. Do an in-depth tutorial on how you have your camera settings.
This lighting has given a really calm feeling to your photos. I really liked how you've captured the scene in the wide pano. It gives a tangible feeling of being there. Thank you Nigel for a lovely video to watch on this quiet Sunday.
Watching the video makes me greatful for having had the opportunity to spend 3 years of my lifetime in Aberdeen. I went to Glen Affric on several occasions. As students we stayed the night on a camp site and then set off really early in the morning. Despite being in a tight budget at the time, it probably was the best time I ever had there. The most authentic experience in any case.
Peaceful music. Relaxing watch, thank you!
Looks at camera with serious intent "or a tree climber" slayed me pretty hard. Great video.
I will definitely be adding Glen Affric to my next UK trip 😍
Great video. I live near the coast and get a bunch of flat light days. Thanks so much.
Thanks so much Nigel! Maybe the most helpful and complete videos of yours I've seen. It was like having a teacher next to you, providing softly his knowledge, holding so slightly your hand. I'm looking forward (trying) to applying all your advices on my next trip! 🙏
Enjoyable video as always. Interesting that in less than great conditions, we can have an enjoyable visit somewhere and get some good shots just walking around and observing, and seeing what crops up. Sometimes this is more satisfying than a better weather near honeypot location.
When I have perfect weather and light I get stressed and run around like a moron to find the best spot. As soon as it's hazy or flat I take my time to take in the landscape a lot more
You are so fortunate to live near so many wonderful locations for photography! And your images are amazing, as always!
Epic location and some of your finest images for a while
Wow, that tree at 3:31 looks like the "Welcoming Guest Pine" in Huangshan!
Thanks Nigel, after seeing this video I can no longer use flat light (which we have enough of in Belgium) as an excuse for not getting great images 😊
Great video. Love your printed images...you have added a destination to my list!
Living in the Bay Area we get an a lot of overcast days. What a great video lesson in shooting these difficult lightning situation. The use of your subject is very compelling.
Inspires me to go out on dull days!
Lochs and Glens in Scotland Nigel! Lakes and Valleys are south of the border 🤦🏾♂️ You captured Glen Affric beautifully, one of my favourite places in Scotland 👌🏾
Amazing location and great advice for the most common lighting conditions here in the UK!!! At least for me when I go out with my camera on days off!!! Love the composition of the 3rd print with a diagonal line of trees with a dead one in the centre, the lake behind and then snow capped mountains with glimpses of colour in the sky. Looked amazing printed 👏👏👏
Similar conditions, light and weather-wise to NE OHIO.
Enjoyed very much! Beautiful images!
Thank you for some much needed instruction. Several of your images I think would great as B&W prints.
Loved the pics, wow! Would have liked some of those on my walls!
You have a nice manner with your audience. Nice video.
Very enjoyable, particularly liked the pano and last photo 👍
Textures, forms and depth.
You've showcased Scotland beautifully! Such lovely photos.
You get good photos anywhere is amazing. Really talanted!
Thank you for providing another wonderful vlog, location, and especially, lovely photos, while you are traveling to Antarctica with your buddies. I hope the trip is fantastic! Thank you!
Last one, vertical orientation, would be something interesting…. Great video thanks for sharing
I really enjoyed this .. TY Nigel
Love the way you use one tripod leg when walking, I do the same, great monopod too. Thanks Nigel, great advice. 👍📸
Nice one; thanks, Nigel. This is very applicable for where I live in Finland. We often have weeks on end with unbroken overcast conditions.
you just keep delivering! Thanks Nigel, I really enjoyed your photos
Fantastic location, amazing images and beautiful background music. What a treat. As well as all this I learn so much as you do such a great job of talking us through your images. Thanks so much Nigel.
I truly enjoy your enthusiasm & love of nature.... Do you have a video on camera care in the rain ?
Great video Nigel. Enjoyed seeing how you go about photographing in flat light. Some beautiful shots there too.
Hello from Ukraine!
Good insights as always.
Thank you, Niguel!
Nigel, I had a rare Sunday off and so was able to enjoy today's video from you earlier than usual. Which meant my wife watched it with me. "He's the one you have prints from?" "Yep." She asked a question I have to admit I hadn't thought much of, "Does he have someone to film him, or does he set up two tripods?" I know that sometimes you have something with you, but am guessing that most of the time you are out solo. While I wouldn't expect you to reveal any trade secrets, we'd both love to hear how you do what you do in the field. Thanks again for another great offering.
Wonderful vid, I can apply this in Wisconsin woodlands.
Love your videos every time! It's such a treat to get to come on these trips with you, thanks for all the work you put into your videos.
Thank you Nigel really given me inspiration for getting back out there on flat light days (there’s been so many recently)
As always, a great video! I made a video with similar topic myself a few weeks ago... nobody escapes the grey weather 😉 But with a landscape like yours, I'll take clouds over direct sunlight anyday! Only sunrise does it more justice 🙂
Love the compositions !!!
the camera movement suggest you have a co-pilot helping you with your Vlogs. such a beautiful place. I like the third print best !!
Always love and learn from your videos! Thank you!
Hi Nigel great video and thanks for the Tip's. Choping off the top of the tree did work .Living in snowdonia I am well versed in dull and rainy weather He HE
Great video Nigel. One of my favorite glens in Scotland, not too rugged yet stunningly majestic and flanked by a number of Munros. University Challenge, hosted by Bamber Gascoinge ... 😂
you're, really, good. that's it! 🙏🏼🕊
Fibulas images Nigel and looks like a fantastic place to visit. Thanks for sharing.
What a wonderful location. Highly instructional video. Thank you Nigel! Your videos helped me to become more thoughtful when I am out on location and working a scene. I find the pictures also here again really masterpieces, highly invididual and atmospheric.
Wow what a great new location, and you did it justice for sure :) Beautiful video, thanks
Great video, and starting to get into woodland photography myself.
Amazing location, great shots despite the flat light!
Just watched the video as I do every Sunday. The pano image you took for me is absolutely stunning. That would look amazing printed on canvass
I always enjoy watching your videos. They are beautiful, inspiring and educational. Thank you so much for sharing! PS. Love your accent too!
Loved this video, maybe because flat light is all too common here in South West Wales. Great photos. Thanks.
Great Work!! I can feel your passion and love for this art that is photography. If I can a question> Please can you tell me your printing setup and the cost to put it together?
Interesting video. Thanks for sharing Nigel.
Great video as usual , can't wait to see your Antartica adventure shots , have you ever thought or done a video on printing , I always struggle with this :(
Flat sky? I would kill for that!
I am in Arizona, where the sun shines. And shines. And shines.
I really love the second photo❤️😊
Loved the pano, the dead tree with the mountain behind wouldve been a nice click imo. Love your work mate keep it up
This looks amazing, I love that 3rd and 4th print your editing style is fantastic
Thanks Nigel. That opening scene looks like something out of Hollywood set or created by CGI. Just amazing! Great scouting...
Very helpful tutorial. I loved the mountain/lake image with the blue skies making their way through the cloud cover - stunning. Caught the little comment, ‘I am not a mule’ when mentioning carrying all your favorite lenses. lol
"I am not a mule" 😂😂 I'm up in Glencoe in late March so will keep this in mind. Thanks for the ideas Nigel.
Wow Nigel. You really out did yourself on this one! Loved these images, and great advise. Missed Pebbles though. ;-)
Great image and video as always Nigel!
“I’m not a mule.” Classic!
I‘ll make use of this tips when coming to Scotland in Summer. Thank you for another great video. Like the transition at 12:27 (and the shot too)
"...without falling down the mountain"... eyyyup !
That composition at 10:00 is just amazing, I saw you ended up using iso-800 but we both know that’s not a problem in most usage scenarios. :) Great eye!
Nice tripod!!! I need one of these...
Very useful topic.
Great video! Who is going out with you to shoot these videos? They are getting some great angles and really elevating the videos beyond the locked off tripod that you normally did (which was good too!). Nice job.
Very good video. Thank you.
I really like this forest and hope that you return for more photos.
Have you ever been to forests in Finland?
Good video again Nigel, thank you, An ideal for a video may be ‘how paper choices can change the look of your image’. I don’t have my own printer but do manage to get my prints done on Fotospeed papers, but I tend to stick to Platinum Etching. your Cotton Etching print does look good
That's interesting about the Caledonian pines -- look up Caledonian forest in wikipedia -- it's ancient forest, direct descendants of the first trees after the ice retreated. I know there's a lot of Scots Pine in Ireland -- I've read it was the most common tree when humans first arrived, but actually became extinct in the last few hundred years. Whether the current Scots Pine in Ireland came from Scotland or not, I don't know ..
As always informative and aesthetic.
So good again! 🎑🥇🎉
Love the shot with the 3 trees, the peninsula jutting out on the thirds and those knockout mountains! Have been here once before, but in summer - never again - midge to the maximum. The kids ran a mile when they saw the swarms - it really was that bad. You definitely hit this in the right season, all but for the light, but those images are great! I am off to Skye next week, and think it'll be a mix of rain and snow - could be similar dull conditions - may work with the moody Cuillins with snow on the top?! I'll take on board your tips on shape and form of the environment. Cheers, Ian :)
Fantastic video - here in the UK we get lots of overcast dull days, especially in winter, and it's great to see you getting great images in these conditions. Have you been to Glen Affric in the autumn? At that time of year it is mindblowingly beautiful!!
great vid Nige
