@@timothylee2772 This scene in question happens pretty much right before Spunkmeyer and Ferro are attacked by the Alien and subsequently killed. That’s why the cheyenne crashes near them. They call it in and set a flaire so Ferro can pick them up.

So many great things about this scene. Ripley has earned the marines respect by saving them and demonstrating both competency and skills you can by both hudson and vasquez agreeing wither where formally they completely dismissed her. Then hicks realizing that he's in charge is both he really doesn't want to have the spot light on him, but also realization that the apone is gone so there's a sadness. He doesn't really want to take charge but I love the sudden change when burke insults him he instantly affirms his authority as a rebuttable. He doesn't want to take charge, but he will especially if you disrespect the corps. He insulted Hicks by calling him a grunt, but by extention he also insulted Vanquez, Hudson, (and still alive at this point) ferro and spunkmeyer because they were below him in authority. The scene then ends with a solidification of Burke as the outsider and Ripley as being part of the marine family by him quoting her plan back to her verbatim.
Would it be fair to say her character in 1&2 are great prototypes or archetypes for female characters? Not like the weirdness we get today with girl bosses or tough girls in action movies. She doesn't want to be there, she didn't ask for or go looking for it, she wasn't trying to be in charge. Ripley meanwhile gets to ride an elevator with a flamethrower ducttaped to a fucking assault rifle while at the same time showing proper fear. Following her maternal feelings and in the same scene, give a badass bitch look to the queen while tearing up her eggs. Modern technology means films like this just aren't made anymore, except under extraordinary circumstances. CG means environments are no longer realistic (because they had to be real sets), that much is obvious, but the other thing is that because directors have access to CG they're so damn keen to use it. Which means scenes like this, with fairly static cameras and long closeups on the faces of ordinary human beings while they have intense conversations in settings that are almost mundane apart from the fact they're sci-fi, are now very rare in action films. Sure, there will be closeups during moments of high drama and heroism, but minutes-long conversations like this? Doesn't happen often.
This all speaks to why Alien is my favorite sci-fi franchise. While technology has advanced stunningly, human nature hasn't changed at all. These characters don't feel like they're in the future. After calling her a Disney princess to begin with, this is the moment that Ripley earns their respect. They just lost half of their friends and Ripley is like, yeah let's nuke this place. From then on, she's their leader
Ripley really should be applauded. She singlehandedly tried to wrack up the biggest debt by any one single human in history. If I recall, start of movie she was already owing the company over 40 million. Now wants to add to it? Bravo Ripley
Ripley was an officer on the Nostromo, and when she rescues the marines, it's like the flame inside of her reignited. Difference between Gorman, no experience, and Ripley, with plenty
You can tell at 0:18 that Hicks was already on board with Ripley's idea to nuke the entire site from orbit. In the second crossover movie, Aliens VS Predator Requiem, the U.S. military didn't hesitate to nuke Gunnerson, Colorado to wipe out the Xenomorphs.
I can tell this movie is nearly 40 years old because even though the story's timeline takes place roughly a couple hundred years in the future... Burke refers to it as a "multimillion dollar facility." Hell, nowadays "multimillion dollars" probably wouldn't cover the cost of the drop ship they flew down to the planet on.
I love how Hicks looks at Ripley after she talks about nuking. He was like woah, she's not playing around but i like this idea!

Don't mess with Chet!!
You're stewed, buttwad!
After calling her a Disney princess to begin with, this is the moment that Ripley earns their respect. They just lost half of their friends and Ripley is like, yeah let's nuke this place. From then on, she's their leader
I like how it's the eccentric civilian woman who immediately goes full Armageddon. Mama Bear energy
Not eccentric. Traumatized. She's seen these monsters before.
Ripley really should be applauded. She singlehandedly tried to wrack up the biggest debt by any one single human in history. If I recall, start of movie she was already owing the company over 40 million. Now wants to add to it? Bravo Ripley
This debt would be billed to Hicks. Ripley only gives the marines the idea. Hicks is in command and it's his call at this point.
Weyland-Yutani would've had that shit insured, and if they didn't, that's on them.
Ripley was an officer on the Nostromo, and when she rescues the marines, it's like the flame inside of her reignited. Difference between Gorman, no experience, and Ripley, with plenty
0:50
Ripley: Wrong!
0:51
Vasquez: Yeah, watch us!
Then they got picked up, Nuked the site from orbit and saved mankind from endless slaughter
For ages I thought the line was "nuke it for morbid" which didnt make much sense to me but i thought it was just one of those sayings....
Same. I took it as military lingo for “kill everything”
Burke is that asshole boss who constantly reminds you that they consider you "family" as a way to dodge your questions about working conditions.
A perfect film.
The minutes hicks repeated what Ridley said, she smiled and was like, “I like this guy”
"This is a 10-20 dollar installation" Aliens if it was filmed in the 1920s
Watching this now, Paul Reiser is the perfect stereotype for his role. 😂
"Yeah... that sounds like a decent plan actually." Is likely his thought processes.
I can tell this movie is nearly 40 years old because even though the story's timeline takes place roughly a couple hundred years in the future...
Burke refers to it as a "multimillion dollar facility."
Hell, nowadays "multimillion dollars" probably wouldn't cover the cost of the drop ship they flew down to the planet on.
00:23 'Fuckin' A!
This whole time I thought she said "nuke the entire site for morbid." For three decades I've been *WRONG*
I thought almost the exact same thing till about a year ago. When the light went off I felt so stupid for not having got it before.
Drumpf when he learns of a hurricane.
