Thanks for the memory. I bought one new in 77. It was sitting on a dealer lot and had been ordered by someone who cancelled because it took way to long to be delivered because he ordered the T-roof. It was the two tone blue, had NO A/C, but did have the blue vinyl buckets, tilt wheel and AM/FM. The dealer also had one on the showroom floor that was LOADED but had the split bench velour interior and I wasn't thrilled with the split bench, so I bought the other one. I have seen a few black and silver and yellow and golds sitting at other dealers, but none had the T-roof. One DID have the sunroof. My grandparents adopted me at age 3, and Grandma bought a brand new 1976 Dodge Charger SE. It was a beauty. Dove grey with that bordello red velour interior, buckets with console shifter, 360 4V. Man, I wanted that car! But they traded it in 1979 for a brand new New Yorker Fifth Avenue Edition with the 360 2V. That one is a beauty as well, and I do have that one here in my garage in SoCal thanks to them keeping it for me in a garage in Western PA for years and leaving it to me in their will. Both that 76 360 and the 79 360 had Lean Burn. It works fine until it doesn't. LOL. I still have it on my New Yorker, although it had failed at some point and someone (probably my uncle Ken, since he thought he knew about cars) had installed a supposed good used (but wrong) one from a junkyard. Well, when I got the car shipped across the country to me in 2014, it didn't run. I discovered that incorrect Lean Burn computer, and RockAuto actually had ONE correct rebuilt unit. I installed that, and she fired right up, runs beautifully to this day. That Lean Burn system can advance the ignition timing all the way up to 56 degrees advance! Crazy. But at 108k miles, it hasn't hurt that 360 one bit. And it gets more than 20 MPG on the highway, if you keep her under 65 and it's kinda flat. Anyway, rant over, and I do dig that Charger Daytona! Despite all the crappy rust in all the corners she looks better than what I use as a daily driver. No joke intended. I think these Canadian Mopars were never rust proof from the factory. So you can't blame just neglection, humidity and road salt on it. If you do look close you can see one of the leaf spring mounts is crooked as was the towing hitch. Always love the Mortske minute, these help me to understand what went on elsewhere behind the iron curtain. You should make a board of the oldest batteries you have come across, should be a fun one to put together. I do regret spending 2k on something else years ago...should have saved it up for this rig.
Actually, Mopar was in such disarray in the late 70s, they had tens of thousands of Aspens and Volares rusting away in port cities like Long Beach, before they even went to the dealers.
Spoiled us on this one, not one, not two but three Mortske minutes. And too bad the shenanigans ended with a blown upper radiator hose. And had to laugh when you said you ran motors longer without oil in them, laughed cause I watched that particular Puddin’s Fab Shop.

In 1987, I bought a used 1974 Dodge Coronet Custom for $100. It belong to the daughter of a farmer, who's daughter drove it to the local community college. It had been sitting in a field. My dad paid the money , I turned the key, dead battery, we jumped it, and it started right up. I was 25 years old, now I'm 62. it turned out to be the best car i have ever owned!!!, it was like a rocket ship, with the 318 V-8 and rear axle gear ratio. it was like a 4 door charger!!I got many speeding tickets in that car it was blue, I remember back then you had to drive 55!!!! (stupid speed limit), the car was geared to cruise at 81, it purred like a kitten at those highway speeds. I could burn rubber and catch 2nd gear!!!!!! I got a custom exhaust for it cherry bomb glass packs!!!!!the back seat was a couch for you and your girl,at the drivein!!!!!
I've had 30+ Mopars over the years, and the only 318s that ever impressed me were the torquey Polyspherical (their term, not mine) wide-block 318s, the original A-motor (aka a Semi-Hemi). The big blocks were my tire fryers.
That whistler and smoke deal is a prank. When I was a kid in the late 70’s my Mother would always pick my Grandmother up on Saturday and they would go shopping. Well we just had a mall open in Quincy,IL. and it had a shop called Spencer’s that had a section of cool gag thing’s and had one of those whistler and smokers. While they were shopping I bought one and put it on the 1973 Mercury Marquis we had. Will never forget how funny it was when that started doing its thing. I was in the back seat rolling, they had no clue what was going on with the car until I let the cat out of the bag! Thank you for that memory.
Thanks Mortske! I feel bad as I forgot to comment on your video, which is stupid as there's already 1,100 comments!! It's a cool car, love the graphics and color, never thought it would turn over but you got it running and driving!
You can tell everybody you own a Dodge Daytona, just don't tell them the year . That was kind of false advertisement with the picture of the car with a wing.
Thiscar reminds me of my 1979 Chrysler Newport. 360 V-8 auto 4dr. The guy i bought it from tried to sell me a 318 with matching trans. My only problem with the car was on nice warm sunny days none of the windows would go down at all. Now if it was raining they would work all day, never could figure it out
Wow yet another rare gem this week sir Mortske 🤠I think that auto fooler tube whistle is like a warning thing for deer🚘🦌 to be able to hear you car before they see it maybe possibly.Carry on your wayward sons there will be peace when you are done💯
There's a company that's called DUI who makes mopar big block electronic distributors that the top half is the exact same thing as the GM HEI distributors and they work great but if you have to run tall valve covers because of using roller rockers the distributor cap will hit the valve covers so most guys stick with the MSD distributor and brain box with the rpm chips that can change the rpm limits and the advance curves. They aren't cheap but they work very good .
I'd rather push my Mopar off a cliff than put GM crap on it. Mopar made their own performance ignition kit. Discontinued now, but Jegs and Summit sell house brand duplicates.
My older brother got a brand new 1980 mustang at 18 and at 18 my little sister got a 280Z 2+2. I got the hand me down 1976 Dodge Charger SE. It had that same death trap LeanBurn electronic ignition system. It would cut out and sometimes off when I gave it gas to pull out on the highway. That thing was a big problem and death mobile…. Made me wonder if I was a surprise mistake baby…..Middle Child Problems.
That Corinthian leather is quality stuff. The Corinthians use barbless barbed wire on their fences... The "Auto Fooler"... LMAO. That's pure genius. With all of the crap I did when I was younger, I can't believe I didn't think of something like that. Actually it's probably good that I didn't... That thing probably would have flat lined someone when they turned the key, and the party started.
Thank you for the content! I worked for Western Auto in the 90s, the battery manufacturers skipped the letter I in the date code. K should be October production.
I would highly recommend getting a ball siphon hose from your local parts store. They drain about 3-4 gallons a minute and contain the mess when transferring old fuel into a drain bucket or waste container. I use one at my shop all of the time for fuel contamination jobs and they’re great!
The charcoal i think is parts of a speaker magnet, people taped them to the gas line to change the ions in the fuel to give you better gas mileage, I remember seeing it in the 70"s when i was a mechanic, it didn't work btw, most people used cow magnets also.
I had a 1975 Charger SE with the full interior from a 1979 Chrysler Cordoba. I loved that car! Fix that car up a little and you'll have a lot of fun with it. To this day it's still my favorite road trip car.
Holy hell Batman. I fricken lost it when the gas tank perfumed your shop. On another note I enjoyed your Mortske minutes since I am old enough to have seen those vehicles and when they hit 200 on the track. I haven’t seen fireworks for the carb. From Leanburn to ride the lightning.
I painted one of those for a friend of one of my wives. It was blue on blue body color, I think I like the silver/black scheme. The metallic paints had problems back then, obviously, but they look pretty nice when finished nicely.
You are right about the power from the 70's cars...i drove a 1977 Royal Monaco, 360 V8 if it was more than 160 hp i'd never believe it... dang that thing had the best Air Cond i ever had... 30/30 air roll down both windows & Go 60 MPH...
The firework makes me wonder if this car was used in a Hollywood movie. Seems like this could be related to some movie magic. Great video, thanks for sharing.
It's a limited production cruiser mopar flavor. The fact it has any body left at all is significant. Great video Mortske. Charge on! See what I did there? 😂
I got all excited when I saw the video title and the blacked out thumbnail then when I realized it was one of the Cordoba models I was less excited. I am interested in the 1st gen Camaro on the outside lift. Is that one going to make it on the channel?
Great video , I like the Mortzke minute tidbits . Car manufacturers sure had some whacky ideas back in the day ! The wiring to the air cleaner !!! . No lid flip mod happening there I guess . Cheers 🇨🇦
The trip with the hotrod from Houston was a great idea. You need to find stuff in every corner of the country and road trip back with your best buddy duff. One a quarter hahaha

I've seen several lean burn Chrysler cars over the years and of all all of them sporting the special air cleaner only one of them was fully functional as of 2000 a 79 Chrysler Cordoba concourse edition two tone brown and cream crown coupe illuminated roof band light camel brown Corinthian leather bucket seat interior and Cordoba concourse edition steering wheel and factory t tops not a 318 ,2bbl car and medium duty thermoquad carburetor 360
Our 78 dodge magnum xe had the same steering wheel as this Daytona charger se, and a 78 Dodge power wagon w150 prospector also had the same steering wheel with the aluminum wood grain panel on the top center of the horn button over the steering wheel
@MortskeRepair You might want to make a Push Tire attachment like Puddin has on the Tow-Rolla to help save your back there Bud.!!! LOL You could build it for the front of that actually Nice Tow Truck you got there. Just a suggestion.
Is it bad that I was much more interested when I saw that it was a late 70’s and not the one with the big wing? I guess it’s because I have a 77 Cordoba.
Always love the content, i bought a1977 Newport back in 1996 for super cheap. Put it on the lift and it literally broke in half, i was a 21 year old kit, so a weekend with angle iron and it was good as new! LMAO Drove that for 3 years that way.

While they were shopping I bought one and put it on the 1973 Mercury Marquis we had. Will never forget how funny it was when that started doing its thing. I was in the back seat rolling, they had no clue what was going on with the car until I let the cat out of the bag! Thank you for that memory.
Thanks for sharing!
1992 I was 16, driving gravel roads and heading up to cape girardeau for clandestine road trips. Ahhhhh life with no cell phones or trackers 😶
Also: MOTHBALLS??!!? Omg 🤭
Classic!
Thanks for another wonderful opportunity
our pleasure!

Thanks Mortske! I feel bad as I forgot to comment on your video, which is stupid as there's already 1,100 comments!! It's a cool car, love the graphics and color, never thought it would turn over but you got it running and driving!
Much appreciated
You can tell everybody you own a Dodge Daytona, just don't tell them the year . That was kind of false advertisement with the picture of the car with a wing.
Lol
@@MortskeRepairit's called click bait.
@stuartcote4915 its mortske we expect as much lol we were all gonna watch it either way. I thought it was great

Mortski, you're Comment section is the funniest out of all youtubers, It's because people can be who they are. Good show, from 49th state.
Good stuff
Mojo’s going to ask why you didn’t drain it first😂😂😂
Thiscar reminds me of my 1979 Chrysler Newport. 360 V-8 auto 4dr. The guy i bought it from tried to sell me a 318 with matching trans. My only problem with the car was on nice warm sunny days none of the windows would go down at all. Now if it was raining they would work all day, never could figure it out
Betcher pal Dylan McCool would LOVE this beauty.
Jesus builds Dylans hot rods, its a love affair ( insert Ministry video now)
Hi Mortski and Duff and his Pop and girl ang guy nice video 📹 and workmanship
Much appreciated
Come on guys subscribe! I want to see Mortske eat that 30 year old gum.
mmmm
Wow yet another rare gem this week sir Mortske 🤠I think that auto fooler tube whistle is like a warning thing for deer🚘🦌 to be able to hear you car before they see it maybe possibly.Carry on your wayward sons there will be peace when you are done💯
If you ever have to get rid of that old Lean Burn system, wire in a GM HEI module. The ONLY way to go on electronic ignition MOPARs.
The new Orange boxes are junk.
@@jeffhutchins7048 I got a genuine Mopar one, brand new in the box. Just found it in a random box of car shite in my garage.
Hooray for good Mopar action! Were there no dealers selling them new in ND? Super fair price. Thanks for making my week!
You bet
DD speed shop click bait thumbnail 😂
Hack!
Click bait "engage" mortski got a shjitbox Cordoba 😢I thought holy crap! DAYTONA. Mortski finally opened his wallet n let the moths fly out.
🗿💨 alls fair in Love or war ,or YT. I thought it was creative 😁✌️
That Corinthian leather is quality stuff. The Corinthians use barbless barbed wire on their fences...
The "Auto Fooler"... LMAO. That's pure genius. With all of the crap I did when I was younger,
I can't believe I didn't think of something like that. Actually it's probably good that I didn't...
That thing probably would have flat lined someone when they turned the key, and the party started.
Thanks for another Monday morning adventure Mr. Mortske! As far as the late '70s go, this Daytona is kind of a cool car!
You bet!
thank god for the duffster... otherwise, this is a waste of bandwidth

I got learnt real good on this one. Didn't care for the car too much but oh baby, the Bluzer has a killer look. What a peach!
Sure does
The charcoal i think is parts of a speaker magnet, people taped them to the gas line to change the ions in the fuel to give you better gas mileage,
I remember seeing it in the 70"s when i was a mechanic, it didn't work btw, most people used cow magnets also.
Interesting
I had a 1975 Charger SE with the full interior from a 1979 Chrysler Cordoba. I loved that car! Fix that car up a little and you'll have a lot of fun with it. To this day it's still my favorite road trip car.
Holy hell Batman. I fricken lost it when the gas tank perfumed your shop.
On another note I enjoyed your Mortske minutes since I am old enough to have seen those vehicles and when they hit 200 on the track. I haven’t seen fireworks for the carb.
From Leanburn to ride the lightning.
Chin, perfect time @22:32 for "damn we're in a tight spot" clip from brother where art thou
You hit us with an ad right when the mouse jumped out 🙃 kinda messed up the effect Mortske.. lol oh yeah Puddin says your boring.. 😂
Dang
I painted one of those for a friend of one of my wives. It was blue on blue body color, I think I like the silver/black scheme. The metallic paints had problems back then, obviously, but they look pretty nice when finished nicely.
One of my wife's, how many ?
Another Barrett Johnson ready piece. I have a 77 Cordoba and you are not kidding about how they just float down the road.
😂😂😂 should have put the filler tube back before lowering the tank. It made me laugh so much, thank you, Mr Mortske
my bad!
Love when you can get the story!
I do not know how you find all these gems! You should have been a prospector!
Lol
I had a 78 cordoba with a 400. Couldn’t do a burn out but it would go well over 100mph Loved that car. Rode so smooth
Easier with smaller tires and old hard rubber.
Had a 77 Riviera.
With a few magical tweaks, that 400 could've burned the tires off the rims. I've done it to a couple of em.
You are right about the power from the 70's cars...i drove a 1977 Royal Monaco, 360 V8 if it was more than 160 hp i'd never believe it...
dang that thing had the best Air Cond i ever had... 30/30 air roll down both windows & Go 60 MPH...
It seems to be Duff approved! Great video Mortske
thank you for the show.
tant is a harsh word for that car.
The firework makes me wonder if this car was used in a Hollywood movie. Seems like this could be related to some movie magic. Great video, thanks for sharing.
Could be
It's a limited production cruiser mopar flavor. The fact it has any body left at all is significant. Great video Mortske. Charge on! See what I did there? 😂
thanks so much!
Lean burn module on the air cleaner , thermoquad with plastic fuel bowl. Having the lean burn system made the car exempt from having a cat converter
MY father inlaw had 1 of those it run forever Thanks Bro.
Awesome don’t see any of those theses days sweet ride for a hopped up cordoba
That's a quality Mortske Minute
I got all excited when I saw the video title and the blacked out thumbnail then when I realized it was one of the Cordoba models I was less excited. I am interested in the 1st gen Camaro on the outside lift. Is that one going to make it on the channel?
Great video , I like the Mortzke minute tidbits . Car manufacturers sure had some whacky ideas back in the day ! The wiring to the air cleaner !!! . No lid flip mod happening there I guess . Cheers 🇨🇦
Right on
The trip with the hotrod from Houston was a great idea. You need to find stuff in every corner of the country and road trip back with your best buddy duff. One a quarter hahaha
Sounds great!
You are a lucky man, those are the cars that were new when I left High school. i would l love to have one of those sir!
Sell ya one!
😂 DD Speed Shop is rubbing off on you with the click bait! 😂 Great video nonetheless!
🤭
I am so happy to see one of these car's on your channel, I also liked it's cousins the Mirada and the Magnum and No not the Station Wagon 😅 and Then when you opened the hood and I saw the Dreaded LEAN BURN BOX on the side of the Breather Cause they Suck, Back when Fram was Still Good I quit using them after having two different cars develop 📍 holes in the canister and almost blew up the engine, Always Enjoy the MORTSKE Minute.
My dad has owned a 78 Dodge Magnum xe and a 79 Chrysler Cordoba concourse edition
I don't really want either one.
yes it is i use 1 in 1977 on a 74 vega it was funny watching the owner freak out and haul but away from his car .
Always love the content, i bought a1977 Newport back in 1996 for super cheap. Put it on the lift and it literally broke in half, i was a 21 year old kit, so a weekend with angle iron and it was good as new! LMAO Drove that for 3 years that way.
Sorry to hear that
As the owner of a malaise era car, we need to preserving as many of these as possible. Nice find Mortske!.
Agreed
