It always makes me emotional. It is a truly special scene and I think it was so beautiful to have David Tennant’s doctor see her before he regenerated.
This is the first time I've noticed: she didn't say goodbye, she said see ya. Like she almost knew she'll see him again soon. The sad thing is the doctor would not.

Knowing he was about to regenerate, the tenth doctor had a few things to do before hand. He visited Martha to save her life one more time-she had saved him so many times before. He visited Sarah Jane to save the life of the person she loved the most. He visited Donna to play just one last joke on her- typical of those two😉 But when he visited Rose, he wasn’t really planning on doing anything. He just wanted to see her one last time- the girl he’d lost. He probably wouldn’t have even spoken to her if she hadn’t asked him if he was alright. He risked dying just to say a simple goodbye.
It sorts of mirrors back Lady Cassandra's demise in the episode New Earth when she, imhabiting the body of Chip at the tenure of his half-life, begged the Doctor and Rose to bring her back to the last night she was complimented for her once-normal human looks by passing away under the arms of her distraught younger self-- the only person she ever truly loved and regretted to depart from, just because she dared saying a word. Here, the Doctor does the same by going after Rose - the only woman he ever loved in ages and changed bodies to make her love him more - and nearly passing away just to say goodbye.
In the Sarah Jane Adventures, the Eleventh Doctor explains to Jo Brant that he actually visited every companion of the TARDIS ever, before his regeneration into Eleven. He doesn't go into full detail why but we now know it was because it was his last regeneration. Obviously he was granted more but we didn't know that at the time.
He never intended to talk to her. He just wanted to look at her from afar, but the pain of the incoming regeneration made him groan with pain that Rose turned around to look at this random drunk dude and make sure if he was ok.
Omg I just realised something. The Doctor wasn't the one who spoke first. He stood off to the side, seemingly content just to SEE her again. It was Rose who heard the sound of someone, a stranger, in pain and turned around to ask if he was okay, because that's just who she is and part of the reason he fell in love with her😢
He also kept himself in the shadows, which obscured his face enough so she never pieces together that the Doctor looks exactly like the stranger she met on New Years
@@moviehermit5631 I am in the middle of writing a fanfic piece where Rose asks if he used a memory from her past to make his new generation. I look at this scene, and think the Doctor wanted to be the first Doctor she sees, because this happens earlier in the year before she meets 9. So, Ten would be her first doctor, even if she does not remember who this man really is.
Just take a minute to realize that Wilfred lived through the World War II blitz. He was a soldier during a time in the world when everyone thought that the next day would be their last. He watched his brothers in arms march to their deaths and was helpless to save the millions upon millions of people that died in the war. When he saw the Doctor for the last time, he recognized that look in his eyes. It was the same look that filled every soldier's eyes during the war. When a man is ready to die for you and for everyone else - every shopgirl, every med student, every temp - then there is only one thing you can do. You salute them.
Yeah. It's never shown directly, but I get the feeling this Doctor actually had a Romance with her, not just going on adventures. Rose was very special to the Doctor. This scene reminded me of Captain Jack, when he said he caught up to her time frame, he went and saw Rose growing up, always from a distance, just being happy he got to see her, possibly the only time he was truly happy in his long, long life.
@@michaelheath2866 If I'm not mistaken (because I've watched it a long time ago) during their goodbye he did tell her he loved her. And he did leave a "human clone" version of himself with her to grow old with. It was when she got trapped in a parallel universe and he did everything (even Risk his own life) to see her one last time to say goodbye.
0:41 is one of the greatest shots ever: The doctor standing in the middle of a graveyard with the TARDIS like his gravestone. The foreshadowing here is phenomenal because the doctor is about to join them.
@@jonylawson73 in a sense he is. So much of him changes with each regeneration, he can hardly be considered the same person. Just think about how important she was to him, how much pain he's carrying, how many people he visits in this episode...and then POOF, and we never see them again, because 11 isn't connected to them like 10 was.
But Snoke is reportedly darth plageus who could cheat death by forming new bodies. So you may be able to do that too....... Just believe in the dark side.
Here's why this regeneration was the most sad. We were not just losing the tenth doctor, but ALL the characters that RTD created. It was like we were losing a whole universe filled with characters we love and who would never be seen again. Rose, Martha, Donna, Mickey, Jack, Jackie, Wilfred ETC. This is why everyone had such a hard time moving on. Every other doctor in the classic series dies with their companion and so the companion acted like sort of a bridge to the next doctor. However, because 10 died alone, it feels so empty as if this storyline had a wall built on top of it to make way for series 5. It doesn't feel like the same universe. It feels like a completely different show. I get the show is supposed to periodically change, but it's supposed to be a nice flow of change. When 10 died, the show changed way too much too fast. Just my opinion.
Well, technically, if they chose, some of RTD's characters can return. Martha and Mickey, maybe Jackie, Wilfred if he isn't dead, and possibly Jack Harkness soon enough. The only character who the Doctor would be forced to avoid is Donna, though with the new face, it'll be easier to be hidden. Hell, Capaldi said he'd love it if Susan Foreman made a return, and the actress who played her said she'd be glad to do it. It's not impossible - we did get to see Sarah Jane for the first time in decades.
Exactly.. This is the reason I had so much trouble getting along with 11. Even the overall tone change during series 6 onwards. I guess Moffat had this mentality that along with a new showrunner comes a new meaning to the show.. It's like watching a new show to be honest..
The series has always changed, between The War Games and Spearhead from Space was a fast but necessary change, until the Sarah Jane of the Third Doctor is very different from the Sarah Jane of the Fourth Doctor. Honestly the RTD era becoming depressing and lacking in fun with a pathetic emotional cripple crying for her blonde girlfriend, like the Flash CW series.
He remembered what Jack had told him about going back and checking in on her, I truly believe Rose is the absolute love of the Doctor's life. Time changes people, you move on but they are always still there. The Moment proved that she was the most influential being to him in all of his life, even if he didn't know who she was yet.
@@maralonent6257 to me it didn't work, because they didn't have any build up together. Moffat had a good idea with the parallel life lines between them, but as usual when he has a good idea he goes way over the top, there are too many wibbly wobbly timey wimey stuff between them to even see their relationship becoming something, while it's the complete opposite with Rose and ten. However I loved her with 12 so much, I think it was working way better between them, there was more chemistry
@@harboryt1459 Well, it could be argued that we don't know who the first face belonged to that the Ninth Doctor saw, but it's not Rose. It counts for Ten and only sort of counts for Eleven, because that Amy was a hallucination and the last real face he saw was Clara. The same can be argued for Twelve, who had his memories messed with and was dealing with avatars of Bill and Nardole on his last day. If you don't count the avatars of Bill and Nardole and you don't count the memory of Clara, all of which weren't the real person, then the last 'real' face the Twelfth Doctor saw was that of the First Doctor when they said their goodbyes. Twelve had a rather bizarre ending when it comes to his companions. For it to count for the Thirteenth Doctor (when that time comes), it would have to be the face of either Ryan, Graham or Yaz. Or all of them. We'll have to wait to find out.
twiggysangel13 if it weren't for Rose, Ten would've never came to be. The power of the time vortex possessed Rose and that caused Nine to regenerate into Ten. If Rose hadn't done that, then Ten wouldn't exist. plus, the first face he saw was Rose... so yes, he *was* born loving her.

He lived better. 10th doctor again 14. He had regeneration as a doctor. It was even divided into two as the 15th doctor. While his twin continued to travel in time, he started living a life in the world until he recovered. But I would love to live this life with Rose. I was very touched that Donna’s daughter’s name was Rose…. :( She is the best companion.. ❤😢
It's not fair... He's over 900 years old with the ability to travel through time and dimensions in space. He can bend the past, present, and future, manipulating the very fabric of reality, he betters peoples' lives, and would give his own life to save a complete stranger in a heartbeat (or two). He's the best and bravest man in the universe, yet he can never have the most basic of desires; a life, a lover, a companion. Not even someone to grow old with. It's just not fair.
The importance of rose in tens life just cannot be overstated. And I love the fact that despite this, she was just a human. Just a normal human. Not like river or Clara. Given supernatural connections to the doctor. The connection between rose and ten was one of pure, sincere emotion and I miss that in the other doctors

She was a normal human being, she wasn’t a legendary beauty, she didn’t have a huge talent or potential, she didn’t have a kind of job that’s world changing, she didn’t have a special bloodline, she wasn’t some descendant of an important person or someone in Doctor Who history, she wasn’t like the God’s chosen one or destinied for…(list goes on) and she didn't tried to be the doctor's equal or race with him. that makes her a special and unique in characteristic ways and one of the many reasons why the doctor loves her so much

In his work, literally there were three females which either the doctor watched them grow up, or no, they just grow up by constantly hearing about him and worshipping him like a god or something. That's the word! Simple AND clever! Moffat makes things way too weird and complicated. RTD was like raw emotion and character and it just worked beautifully. You can see from Moffat's first finale he was trying to overcompensate by bringing many of the past villains for the finale to make his seem bigger and better. I still feel no connection to Amy or Rory. It's something with the writing. They don't feel real like Rose, Martha and Donna.
He's said he doesn't want to. He said it would feel like turning up at a job you left six years ago, and then ordering everyone around. Shame though. It's never been the same since he left.

What if when the ninth doctor ask her to go with him she remembered what the "stranger" said to her in new year and she decided to go bcause that could be the great thing in the year. Idk, I like to cry so I imagine cruel things.
In this moment, he could tell Rose how he felt. She thought he was some drunken stranger she had just met. How could he say "I love you"? When it would mean nothing to the girl who meant everything? So instead he said his last goodbye. And Rose Tyler's first hello. Because it was his last day, And her first forever. You see, he was her beginning, and she was his end. And it continued on and on. After all, she promised him forever.

Andrew Chapman i always defended rose tyler against her haters but after seeing that she picked the copy doctor ive lost all respect to her. like doctor said '' they break my heart ''.
When he says "I bet you're going to have a really great year" I could heard the heartbreak in his voice. This breaks me, I know this is Doctor Who, and the Doctor has too keep moving, there's always different companions, different adventures. The Doctor is always running, but for once, it would have been wonderful if he had told her how he felt. Because, lets be real, he loves her, and I would be willing to bet he will always love her. Sure, he will meet new people, he may even 'love' them. But what he felt for Rose, it was real love, it was that kind of love that marks you forever. I think the only other companion that comes close to mean the same to the Doctor was Sarah Jane. The fourth incarnation of the Doctor really seemed to care for her, but I don't think he ever allowed his feelings for Sarah Jane to get deeper. However, with Rose, is evident, the looks he gives her on his 9th body, then he regenerates and I think the shock of almost losing her made him think "rules be dammed, I love her" hahahaha. I think from watching season two, that they are truly together after the Queen Victoria episode. I Can't avoid it, I am such a fan of these two, it should really have been forever "the Doctor in the TARDIS with Rose Tyler."
It would not have made sense to tell her he loved her before he technically met her. It would screw up her timeline, and would be a paradox. Plus his face was in the shadows anyway. She couldn't even see it, and may have thought he was some weird stalker if he told her that during that time.

When Tennant says," You're going to have a really great year." You can hear him hold back REAL tears. Tennant didn't want to leave doctor who. That's why his acting is so amazing. He acts like no other actor I know by using real emotions. Favorite actor! Miss you Tennant! ;(
I think it's so sad about how 2 seconds after the end of this video, the Doctor just kind of realizes that he's regenerating and freaks out a bit like "how did i forget this!?" if you don't know what I mean, watch the rest of the scene after this video. he just takes a deep breath then grimaces in pain. it's amazing how Rose can take his mind off of something so bad.
The reason Rose's goodbye was so sad was because of how real the smile we got used to seeing on her face, and how real the tears we saw when she left. Billie piper is a great actor.
I just realized, to those who miss the 10th doctor and Rose, instead of following the Doctor to the Eleventh hour you can follow Rose to Rose and the whole series starts over in an infinite loop.

..a man scarred by his past experience of war and killing finally meets someone who knows the same thing. Wilf and Ten have more in common than you may think. They would both see themselves perish to save the ones they love. When it's Ten's time to go, Wilf cannot bear to know that he won't see the person he shares such emotional connections with ever again, and it really breaks him. In other words: IT'S SO HEARTBREAKING!
***** when I showed my sister "The End Of Time", she cried when Wilf was talking with the Doctor about the war he fought in, as she said "It's so sad how the Doctor has this face that basically says he knows exactly what Wilf means. Like he's been through this so many times before!" Me: been through what? Her: through death! we both cried.

Because it was before she met the 9th doctor. That's the twist, she have never seen the doctor before that. Yet he knew her. The twist was that she couldn't have recognized him, even if he went out of the dark corner.
I miss Rose :( Rose was with 2 doctors and then she came back in Matt Smith ones but the doctor never saw her! He heard the war doctor go thank you to a... girl and then he said Bad wolf... Both Doctors looked at each other they knew who she was... ROSE!!!!!!! *Crys*
Why didn't 10 and 11 see her, I ask? She was the interface of the Moment and the 3 Doctors were going to use it, the 2 should be able to see her as well.
To think we later learn in the Sarah Jane Adventures. 10 went and visited every past companion. Not just 10s companions. Because he knew from his perspective 11 would be his last regeneration from his point of view. But its beautiful how he made Rose his last companion to visit.
I think what makes this era great was the companions. Each one, Rose, Martha, and Donna had a down to Earth background, and giving them depth through their families is what makes them more real and likable. Because of course if you run away with the Doctor it's only reasonable that we see how their families will react. -Rose came from a single mother and was working in retail. Her life was boring and almost going nowhere until she met the doctor. She wanted to travel with the doctor forever, but her mother was concerned about whether this was a good future for Rose. -Martha's family, on the other hand, was broken and always arguing with each other. She loves them but sometimes would feel a disconnect between them as she never argued with them, only watching from the side. Traveling with the Doctor was fun, but after the Master tortures her family she finally realizes she needs to help them and be there for them at their worst. -And then there's Donna and Wilfred. While I think Donna mainly served to make the Doctor happy and not lonely, Turn Left was the episode that beautifully gives Donna depth and how meeting the doctor would've changed her life for the better. Wilfred's relationship with the doctor was also beautiful, as we see two old soldiers discussing their lives and admiration for one another. If anything, the dark and serious stories of series 4 is more impactful when it's juxtaposed with the comedic relationship between Donna and the Doctor. As such, Donna losing her memory and Wilfred's admiration for the Doctor to the end really highlight the miracles and tragedies in life. To this day I think Wilf was the best companion. Meanwhile, in the newer series, we don't know much about their families. -For me, Amy and Rory were merely plot points because River was their daughter, but after that, I didn't feel like there was much more to their story. Amy has a dad that I think we only see once in her wedding, but to not add anything of him reacting to his daughter's death-ish just felt empty. -Clara's family, on the other hand, was only seen once I believe in 11th's last episode, that they were just used for comedic tension when meeting a naked Doctor. She was also a plot point to explain why she appeared in so many different time points. Honestly, without a focus on their families and life on Earth, I just feel a big disconnect from the show, and is the primary reason I never watched the newer series.

He loved his companions equally. There was no ROMANCE on HIS part. She romanced him, he didn't romance her. It's the same with all the other companions as well.
The transition from the church to the Powell Estate is just incredible. If felt so magical to revisit the whole aspect of Rose, Jackie, the theme music for Rose and just the setting with the Snow and christmas lights. I just absolutely love this scene. Well written and directed.
+Rocio Martinez Sevilla I think she really is. It's like my friend, she had this boyfriend, the love of her life. Things did not work out, life got in the way. She has someone now, and she tells me "I love you know... But, I will never love anyone like I loved him (meaning that bf she used to have)." He loved her, and I do think the Doctor will always lover her. I don't get this nonsense of 9th and 10th and 11th Doctors. That's just the body he was having, his feelings stay the same.

It was the combination of ALL the goodbyes that made this one sadder than Doomsday in my opinion. His goodbye to Captain Jack, his goodbye to Martha and Mickey, as well as to Sarah Jane and her adopted son, and Donna's mom and grandfather, and of course Rose and Ood Sigma. I only wish K-9 was in the episode.
"Was" is the operative word here unfortunately. What I would give to have writers for this show that actually understood what the show was about, loved and respected the lore, and knew how to actually write about things other than "the message."
I honestly think this was one if the saddest moments in DW. Not only was 10 saying goodbye, but we revisited his love for Rose all over again. His final goodbye was her first hello 😢
Ten: "New teeth. That's weird." Rose: "I feel like I've seen you somewhere before, which is probably weirder." Ten: "And suddenly I have a very bad feeling."
I think 2:55 gets me the most. That's it. That's his last chance ever to see her. And shes gone, dissapeared forever, nipping up the stairs, but with one last look back as if in some ways she knew he was abit different, abit special, bit still nevertheless off. Its so brief, so passing, he's just a guy on the street at this point. And she's gone, all he can do is stare forlornly, watching his future he's already experienced dissappear off, waiting for his past to catch up with it, both delighted at the time he had with her and is going to have, and crushed by the knowledge that he can never, ever have it again. All he can do is stare, like a ghost. RTD set the bar so staggeringly high for how to do Who that no one afterwards could compete. Its not the just the ending of his era, its the ending of the show, every character arc tied up, every plot line finished, every moment of this entire run summated. He both saved and ruined the show in one stroke.
2022 -> 2023: 1:50 I just timed it out so that when the clock struck 12 Rose wished me Happy New Year because no one was here to wish me it since I was alone this year. Was nice to have someone say it to me, let alone my favorite DW companion. Super pumped for David’s return this year. For me, this is the year where David Tennant is The Doctor! It’s so nice to say that and it correlate to real life. Growing up David was always my favorite but I was watching them after his run was over as a kid. So now as an adult I can watch him at lest one more time where it is him in the role now. I’ll try and remember and come back here next year. Til then Whovians
Ugh, I came here to see Rose, but the beginning with Donna and her parents already broke my heart! And Rose afterwards! The 10th Doctor was definitely the best Doctor! Although I loved 11th with Amy and Rory and River, nothing can compare to Rose, Martha and Donna! As far as I can tell, Doctor Who ended after Amy and Rory's sad ending! 😢

After seeing Day Of The Doctor, that line has so much more meaning, as he truly does go home to Gallifrey, standing alongside all of his brothers and I think that's beautiful. No Doctor ever truly leaves. All of them will always be around to look after their newly saved home planet, and of course the universe itself ❤_*
Wait so if Ten went back to see Rose before she went flying through time with Nine and after nine regenerates she will see Ten and remember him saying goodbye before he met her and then when Ten regenerates she will understand that he went back to say goodbye to her because he knew he would be with her then lose her and never see her again because she was in a a parallel dimension! So he changed the past because when they were in Norway she remembers him saying goodbye and now knows what it means! You better like this comment it made my head explode T.T
When you consider how the doctor tends to regard his past lives and those he's interacted with, this is especially sad. This is more than just changing face, and saying goodbye to them ever seeing him like this. The doctor tends to leave his life behind when he regenerates, much as with Sarah Jane, and so even though he lives on, his time with these people has ended. Why he tends to do that is anyone's guess. Some of it is the fact that he tends to feel guilty for the effect he has on people, and probably feels there's a point at which he's done enough damage, some of it the fact that he doesn't like relationships to carry into long-term because then he just outlives and watches everyone die. This is just how he is. He comes, tries to provide some incredible experiences for people, and then he leaves, never to return. This scene really drives this home for me, just how alone he is.
Not me sitting here bawling over this scene even all these years later. the foreshadowing that Jackie will find someone good for her again, the first time Rose meets the Doctor being the last time he meets her (at least until we found out in Eleven's era that he was her maths tutor at one point), the fact that its marking just the start of her journey with him, that she was the first and last (human) face his face saw... I swear it gets me every single time
You know, althoug I cry everytime I watch Eleven's farewell being him my favorite Doctor, the only emotional time is when he says his final speech. With Ten it's a whole different issue, because the emotional moment is not just the "I don't wanna go". They are scattered throughout the season and that's waaay superior to either Nine's or Eleven's goodbyes.
after over 12 years I ONLY JUST REALISED that when Rose says “you never know there could be someone out there” and Jackie goes “maybe… one day” Jackie is still not over Pete and she doesn’t think she’ll find anyone as good as he was, hence “maybe”🥲but the “one day” foreshadows that she’ll be with him again and I just can’t cope, I love Jackie
Anyone else notice how Rose said "See Ya" as if she knew..... OH MY GOSH When 9 first regenerates into 10, Rose knows it is still the Doctor even when he changes. I mean she could have doubted it was him but she settles into the idea of regeneration so quickly. What if she had a feeling it would happen? What if Bad Wolf and Rose Tyler are more connected then she lets on!?!

Actually, we don't know if Rose was the first face that nine saw, because he probably saw somebody else before meeting her, i mean, i don't think that right after the war doctor regenarated he bumped into rose

In the first episode when doctor who was rebooted rose says that someone told me that I was gonna have a really good year. I've only just realised that it was David Tennant who said that 😭
I don't expect Doctor Who to stay the same, it's a show that needs to constantly evolve, but how I wish they could capture the hearts of a nation again the way the Doctor and Rose did. That was lightning in a bottle.
With all the other it was what the Doctor could do for them. A last act of gratitude. With Rose it was his reward. She didn't need him to do anything for her. He just wanted to look at her one last time. One last day with his beloved, this was the day he chose
I don't think anything will ever be as iconic as David Tennant's run as the doctor and nothing ever will be (except maybe his second run haha) he was my childhood, the first doctor who episode I ever watched was the Christmas special after he had just regenerated and I fell in love with the doctor who from then on. He and matt smith will always hold a special place in my heart as my favourite two doctors!
hey its nick - Quite late, but I think Doomsday was during 2007 in-universe, as I think the Doctor accidentally brought Rose back to 2006 in the Slitheen two-parter back in season one.
I think Christopher Eccleston will always be my favorite doctor. Season 1 will forever be my favorite. It's the beginning of everything, not only did it have to be great for the show to run, but he had to set the bar after 20+ years of no doctor who. His one season that he had, had to be amazing, and that's what it was. Fantastic in every way. From the ongoing "Bad Wolf" throughout season 1 to the Daleks getting put back in the show, it was all more than words could explain. I love 10, don't get me wrong I get waaaay attached to 10, but something about 9 captivates me, like it had its own life to it. I'm sad Christopher only had one season, but I'm glad he was the one to play it. You gave many laughs, tears, curse words and everything in between. So thank you Chris. You were truly fantastic.

But when he visited Rose, he wasn’t really planning on doing anything. He just wanted to see her one last time- the girl he’d lost. He probably wouldn’t have even spoken to her if she hadn’t asked him if he was alright. He risked dying just to say a simple goodbye.

It sorts of mirrors back Lady Cassandra's demise in the episode New Earth when she, imhabiting the body of Chip at the tenure of his half-life, begged the Doctor and Rose to bring her back to the last night she was complimented for her once-normal human looks by passing away under the arms of her distraught younger self-- the only person she ever truly loved and regretted to depart from, just because she dared saying a word.
Here, the Doctor does the same by going after Rose - the only woman he ever loved in ages and changed bodies to make her love him more - and nearly passing away just to say goodbye.
Also after all those times he stops Jack from flirting with anything that moves, his goodbye was to introduce him to Alonzo
In the Sarah Jane Adventures, the Eleventh Doctor explains to Jo Brant that he actually visited every companion of the TARDIS ever, before his regeneration into Eleven. He doesn't go into full detail why but we now know it was because it was his last regeneration. Obviously he was granted more but we didn't know that at the time.
He never intended to talk to her. He just wanted to look at her from afar, but the pain of the incoming regeneration made him groan with pain that Rose turned around to look at this random drunk dude and make sure if he was ok.

Just take a minute to realize that Wilfred lived through the World War II blitz. He was a soldier during a time in the world when everyone thought that the next day would be their last. He watched his brothers in arms march to their deaths and was helpless to save the millions upon millions of people that died in the war.
When he saw the Doctor for the last time, he recognized that look in his eyes. It was the same look that filled every soldier's eyes during the war.

Yeah. It's never shown directly, but I get the feeling this Doctor actually had a Romance with her, not just going on adventures. Rose was very special to the Doctor. This scene reminded me of Captain Jack, when he said he caught up to her time frame, he went and saw Rose growing up, always from a distance, just being happy he got to see her, possibly the only time he was truly happy in his long, long life.

And he did leave a "human clone" version of himself with her to grow old with. It was when she got trapped in a parallel universe and he did everything (even Risk his own life) to see her one last time to say goodbye.

Just think about how important she was to him, how much pain he's carrying, how many people he visits in this episode...and then POOF, and we never see them again, because 11 isn't connected to them like 10 was.

Here's why this regeneration was the most sad. We were not just losing the tenth doctor, but ALL the characters that RTD created. It was like we were losing a whole universe filled with characters we love and who would never be seen again. Rose, Martha, Donna, Mickey, Jack, Jackie, Wilfred ETC. This is why everyone had such a hard time moving on. Every other doctor in the classic series dies with their companion and so the companion acted like sort of a bridge to the next doctor. However, because 10 died alone, it feels so empty as if this storyline had a wall built on top of it to make way for series 5. It doesn't feel like the same universe. It feels like a completely different show. I get the show is supposed to periodically change, but it's supposed to be a nice flow of change. When 10 died, the show changed way too much too fast. Just my opinion.

Well, technically, if they chose, some of RTD's characters can return. Martha and Mickey, maybe Jackie, Wilfred if he isn't dead, and possibly Jack Harkness soon enough. The only character who the Doctor would be forced to avoid is Donna, though with the new face, it'll be easier to be hidden.
Hell, Capaldi said he'd love it if Susan Foreman made a return, and the actress who played her said she'd be glad to do it. It's not impossible - we did get to see Sarah Jane for the first time in decades.
Exactly.. This is the reason I had so much trouble getting along with 11. Even the overall tone change during series 6 onwards. I guess Moffat had this mentality that along with a new showrunner comes a new meaning to the show.. It's like watching a new show to be honest..
The series has always changed, between The War Games and Spearhead from Space was a fast but necessary change, until the Sarah Jane of the Third Doctor is very different from the Sarah Jane of the Fourth Doctor.

It counts for Ten and only sort of counts for Eleven, because that Amy was a hallucination and the last real face he saw was Clara. The same can be argued for Twelve, who had his memories messed with and was dealing with avatars of Bill and Nardole on his last day. If you don't count the avatars of Bill and Nardole and you don't count the memory of Clara, all of which weren't the real person, then the last 'real' face the Twelfth Doctor saw was that of the First Doctor when they said their goodbyes. Twelve had a rather bizarre ending when it comes to his companions.
For it to count for the Thirteenth Doctor (when that time comes), it would have to be the face of either Ryan, Graham or Yaz. Or all of them. We'll have to wait to find out.

While his twin continued to travel in time, he started living a life in the world until he recovered. But I would love to live this life with Rose. It's not fair... He's over 900 years old with the ability to travel through time and dimensions in space. He can bend the past, present, and future, manipulating the very fabric of reality, he betters peoples' lives, and would give his own life to save a complete stranger in a heartbeat (or two). He's the best and bravest man in the universe, yet he can never have the most basic of desires; a life, a lover, a companion. Not even someone to grow old with. It's just not fair.

The importance of rose in tens life just cannot be overstated. And I love the fact that despite this, she was just a human. Just a normal human. Not like river or Clara. Given supernatural connections to the doctor. The connection between rose and ten was one of pure, sincere emotion and I miss that in the other doctors

That's the word! Simple AND clever! Moffat makes things way too weird and complicated. RTD was like raw emotion and character and it just worked beautifully. You can see from Moffat's first finale he was trying to overcompensate by bringing many of the past villains for the finale to make his seem bigger and better. I still feel no connection to Amy or Rory. It's something with the writing. They don't feel real like Rose, Martha and Donna.

When he says "I bet you're going to have a really great year" I could heard the heartbreak in his voice. This breaks me, I know this is Doctor Who, and the Doctor has too keep moving, there's always different companions, different adventures. The Doctor is always running, but for once, it would have been wonderful if he had told her how he felt. Because, lets be real, he loves her, and I would be willing to bet he will always love her. Sure, he will meet new people, he may even 'love' them. But what he felt for Rose, it was real love, it was that kind of love that marks you forever. I think the only other companion that comes close to mean the same to the Doctor was Sarah Jane. The fourth incarnation of the Doctor really seemed to care for her, but I don't think he ever allowed his feelings for Sarah Jane to get deeper. However, with Rose, is evident, the looks he gives her on his 9th body, then he regenerates and I think the shock of almost losing her made him think "rules be dammed, I love her" hahahaha. I think from watching season two, that they are truly together after the Queen Victoria episode. I Can't avoid it, I am such a fan of these two, it should really have been forever "the Doctor in the TARDIS with Rose Tyler."
It would not have made sense to tell her he loved her before he technically met her. It would screw up her timeline, and would be a paradox. Plus his face was in the shadows anyway. She couldn't even see it, and may have thought he was some weird stalker if he told her that during that time.

When it's Ten's time to go, Wilf cannot bear to know that he won't see the person he shares such emotional connections with ever again, and it really breaks him.

Something I wish they kept in the Day of the Doctor novel was the scene with The War Doctor saying the words Bad Wolf outloud.
To think we later learn in the Sarah Jane Adventures. 10 went and visited every past companion. Not just 10s companions. Because he knew from his perspective 11 would be his last regeneration from his point of view. But its beautiful how he made Rose his last companion to visit.
I think what makes this era great was the companions. Each one, Rose, Martha, and Donna had a down to Earth background, and giving them depth through their families is what makes them more real and likable. Because of course if you run away with the Doctor it's only reasonable that we see how their families will react.
-Rose came from a single mother and was working in retail. Her life was boring and almost going nowhere until she met the doctor. She wanted to travel with the doctor forever, but her mother was concerned about whether this was a good future for Rose.
-Martha's family, on the other hand, was broken and always arguing with each other. She loves them but sometimes would feel a disconnect between them as she never argued with them, only watching from the side. Traveling with the Doctor was fun, but after the Master tortures her family she finally realizes she needs to help them and be there for them at their worst.
-And then there's Donna and Wilfred. While I think Donna mainly served to make the Doctor happy and not lonely, Turn Left was the episode that beautifully gives Donna depth and how meeting the doctor would've changed her life for the better. Wilfred's relationship with the doctor was also beautiful, as we see two old soldiers discussing their lives and admiration for one another. If anything, the dark and serious stories of series 4 is more impactful when it's juxtaposed with the comedic relationship between Donna and the Doctor. As such, Donna losing her memory and Wilfred's admiration for the Doctor to the end really highlight the miracles and tragedies in life. To this day I think Wilf was the best companion.
Meanwhile, in the newer series, we don't know much about their families.
-For me, Amy and Rory were merely plot points because River was their daughter, but after that, I didn't feel like there was much more to their story. Amy has a dad that I think we only see once in her wedding, but to not add anything of him reacting to his daughter's death-ish just felt empty.
-Clara's family, on the other hand, was only seen once I believe in 11th's last episode, that they were just used for comedic tension when meeting a naked Doctor. She was also a plot point to explain why she appeared in so many different time points.
Honestly, without a focus on their families and life on Earth, I just feel a big disconnect from the show, and is the primary reason I never watched the newer series.

The transition from the church to the Powell Estate is just incredible. If felt so magical to revisit the whole aspect of Rose, Jackie, the theme music for Rose and just the setting with the Snow and christmas lights. I just absolutely love this scene. Well written and directed.

She has someone now, and she tells me "I love you know... But, I will never love anyone like I loved him (meaning that bf she used to have)." He loved her, and I do think the Doctor will always lover her. I don't get this nonsense of 9th and 10th and 11th Doctors. That's just the body he was having, his feelings stay the same.

It was the combination of ALL the goodbyes that made this one sadder than Doomsday in my opinion. His goodbye to Captain Jack, his goodbye to Martha and Mickey, as well as to Sarah Jane and her adopted son, and Donna's mom and grandfather, and of course Rose and Ood Sigma. I only wish K-9 was in the episode.

I honestly think this was one if the saddest moments in DW. Not only was 10 saying goodbye, but we revisited his love for Rose all over again. His final goodbye was her first hello 😢

I think 2:55 gets me the most. That's it. That's his last chance ever to see her. And shes gone, dissapeared forever, nipping up the stairs, but with one last look back as if in some ways she knew he was abit different, abit special, bit still nevertheless off. Its so brief, so passing, he's just a guy on the street at this point. And she's gone, all he can do is stare forlornly, watching his future he's already experienced dissappear off, waiting for his past to catch up with it, both delighted at the time he had with her and is going to have, and crushed by the knowledge that he can never, ever have it again. All he can do is stare, like a ghost.
RTD set the bar so staggeringly high for how to do Who that no one afterwards could compete. Its not the just the ending of his era, its the ending of the show, every character arc tied up, every plot line finished, every moment of this entire run summated. He both saved and ruined the show in one stroke.
For some reason I wanted to hear a fantastic.

2022 -> 2023: 1:50 I just timed it out so that when the clock struck 12 Rose wished me Happy New Year because no one was here to wish me it since I was alone this year. Was nice to have someone say it to me, let alone my favorite DW companion. Super pumped for David’s return this year. For me, this is the year where David Tennant is The Doctor! It’s so nice to say that and it correlate to real life. Growing up David was always my favorite but I was watching them after his run was over as a kid. So now as an adult I can watch him at lest one more time where it is him in the role now. I’ll try and remember and come back here next year. Til then Whovians

Ugh, I came here to see Rose, but the beginning with Donna and her parents already broke my heart! And Rose afterwards! The 10th Doctor was definitely the best Doctor! Although I loved 11th with Amy and Rory and River, nothing can compare to Rose, Martha and Donna! As far as I can tell, Doctor Who ended after Amy and Rory's sad ending! 😢

Wait so if Ten went back to see Rose before she went flying through time with Nine and after nine regenerates she will see Ten and remember him saying goodbye before he met her and then when Ten regenerates she will understand that he went back to say goodbye to her because he knew he would be with her then lose her and never see her again because she was in a a parallel dimension! So he changed the past because when they were in Norway she remembers him saying goodbye and now knows what it means!

When you consider how the doctor tends to regard his past lives and those he's interacted with, this is especially sad. This is more than just changing face, and saying goodbye to them ever seeing him like this. The doctor tends to leave his life behind when he regenerates, much as with Sarah Jane, and so even though he lives on, his time with these people has ended. Why he tends to do that is anyone's guess. Some of it is the fact that he tends to feel guilty for the effect he has on people, and probably feels there's a point at which he's done enough damage, some of it the fact that he doesn't like relationships to carry into long-term because then he just outlives and watches everyone die. This is just how he is. He comes, tries to provide some incredible experiences for people, and then he leaves, never to return.
This scene really drives this home for me, just how alone he is.
Not me sitting here bawling over this scene even all these years later. the foreshadowing that Jackie will find someone good for her again, the first time Rose meets the Doctor being the last time he meets her (at least until we found out in Eleven's era that he was her maths tutor at one point), the fact that its marking just the start of her journey with him, that she was the first and last (human) face his face saw... I swear it gets me every single time

You know, althoug I cry everytime I watch Eleven's farewell being him my favorite Doctor, the only emotional time is when he says his final speech. With Ten it's a whole different issue, because the emotional moment is not just the "I don't wanna go". They are scattered throughout the season and that's waaay superior to either Nine's or Eleven's goodbyes.

When 9 first regenerates into 10, Rose knows it is still the Doctor even when he changes. I mean she could have doubted it was him but she settles into the idea of regeneration so quickly. What if she had a feeling it would happen? What if Bad Wolf and Rose Tyler are more connected then she lets on!?!
I like that idea that as Bad Wolf she would probably go to that moment to say goodbye to her doctor.

I don't think anything will ever be as iconic as David Tennant's run as the doctor and nothing ever will be (except maybe his second run haha) he was my childhood, the first doctor who episode I ever watched was the Christmas special after he had just regenerated and I fell in love with the doctor who from then on. He and matt smith will always hold a special place in my heart as my favourite two doctors!

I think Christopher Eccleston will always be my favorite doctor. Season 1 will forever be my favorite. It's the beginning of everything, not only did it have to be great for the show to run, but he had to set the bar after 20+ years of no doctor who. His one season that he had, had to be amazing, and that's what it was. Fantastic in every way. From the ongoing "Bad Wolf" throughout season 1 to the Daleks getting put back in the show, it was all more than words could explain. I love 10, don't get me wrong I get waaaay attached to 10, but something about 9 captivates me, like it had its own life to it. I'm sad Christopher only had one season, but I'm glad he was the one to play it. You gave many laughs, tears, curse words and everything in between. So thank you Chris. You were truly fantastic.
