Am I the only one who thinks that he is under appreciated?
Maybe just because he only had one series to show himself while David and Matt had three series each plus tons of specials.
Or maybe suits appeal more to the audience than a street jacket (I admit that the tenth and the eleventh looked more 'doctory')
*****
Nice spoiler lol
well I know and understand your point, but I have to choose, right? Putting John Hurt as a 'War Doctor' or a 'Ninth Doctor' is always a debate these days, and I always get 'corrections' whenever I use either logic.
14th incarnation, 13th 'Doctor', officially named 12th Doctor
***** HES THE WAR DOCTOR NOT THE 9TH DOCTOR!
THE WAR DOCTOR WHAT JUST A EXTRA LIFE!
Just when I started to appreciate this Doctor, he just had to absorb the time vortex.
For gods sake Chris
He had so much potential. I just wanted to see one more adventure. Or hell, even a Big Finish story with him if they're ever allowed to use new who doctors :P
***** Unfortunately by that time, the relationship between C E and the BBC/DW had soured. He didn't like the politics involved so he left.
Andy Howard Mabey he'll mellow out in a few years like Tom Baker did and mabey we'll see an audio adventure or two sometime in the future
hopefully
"Wilson will call the police."
"Who's Wilson?"
"Chief electrician."
"Oh. Wilson's dead."
Slade Wilson is dead.
thats one big oof
I just saw that part about a min ago.
"By the way, I'm the Doctor, what's your name?"
"Rose."
"Nice to meet you Rose. Run for your life."
+mychau le *credits plays*
+mychau le RUN FOR YER LIFE!! xD
Eccleston may not be my favorite Doctor, but man that's an awesome exchange. 😀
That’s the line that got me hooked
The show in a nutshell.
"I didn't choose the fandom, the fandom grabbed my hand and said 'Run!"
Run!
Big mood
Mood!
Me too. And it started with this very episode. Thank goodness I watch BBC America!
I just wandered into the fandom by accident while looking at UA-cam recommendations. The next week, I'm instantly hooked onto Doctor Who.
Nice to meet you Rose, RUN FOR YER LIFE!!
Definately one of my favorite dw quotes!
+Sam van der Kris I liked this, but I preferred his turn of the world speech in this here same episode
+Brutally Honest FANTASTIC !
Quite a way to introduce yourself. Well played Doctor, well played!!
😂
It figures the Doctor's first word in the show upon return is RUN.
Ironic considering the new doctor can't run by the looks of it
@@ellulturner ?¿ i think you meant peter capaldi, but the actual doctor is a ypung woman.
@@Arkew_ watch demons of the Punjab I rest my case
It figures that THIS doctor’s first word to us was RUN because that’s essentially what he was doing at that time, until The Day Of The Doctor kind of reset it a bit. I remember watching this and being so excited by it, but felt a bit let down by the Mickey vs wheelie bin and Auton Mickey effects/make up. It got so much better though 🙂
@@Arkew_ This was the "9th" one and the first on TV after years away. The female doctor is the 13th.
This is probably the best Pilot I've ever seen for anything.
1) It gave us a character New fans can relate to, as it is someone who didn't know the Doctor. But...
2) It gave us a Classic enemy without too much lore baggage, bringing in the old fans like myself.
1) That's what companions are for, right?
111 likes so here's mine because, reasons.
It's not a pilot. "Pilot" does not mean "first episode". A pilot is an episode created to allow the company to make a decision on if it wants to make the whole show.
My introduction was on BBC America. They were playing all the holiday specials I think. I caught the last couple minutes of the Drums of war just flipping Chanels Christmas afternoon. I didn't understand ANYTHING that was happening. But I knew I liked the acting, and being a Sci fi fan I was intrigued by the concepts. I pulled up Netflix, and got lucky, and got to work. My life was never the same.
A perfect introduction to a fantastic doctor
Damn straight.
Todd Johnson probably the most wanted Doctor, even after Tennant, Smith (oh yes Smith), and whoever your favorite Doctor other than him is
Todd Johnson I understood that reference. 'fantastic'
Absolutely fantastic
9th Doctor, The Cheese God of Cyrodil your username is funny lol
Is it weird that i consider this scene a "Classic"?
Its only about 10 years old but it feels like a lifetime (or 3) ago.
Lets invent a new word, Classic New Who? How bout it?
That's three words.
A new phrase, then.
I consider this scene an absolute classic. Same with the episode. Brilliant
Fantastic*
1:27 "Run" He said. And we haven't stopped since.
I miss Eccleston's Doctor!
+Medieaval Beabe he deserved more than one season
+TheSpartiatus he quit!!!
Jonathan Collins yes i know that's not what i meant
Medieaval Beabe I miss Billie piper.
Eccleston is back to be the doctor again in big finish audios and it’s fantastic
"Because to get that many people dressed up and being silly, they've gotta be students."
"...That makes sense, well done!"
"Thanks."
"They're not students."
Love that exchange lol xD Way to give the girl praise to take it away immediately 😂
I feel like he's impressed at how she's trying to rationalize it.
1:28 and there it was, with that single word “run” Chris was able to instantly make an impact as The Doctor and even today he’s my favourite modern series Doctor, it’s such a shame he struggled whilst making mentally and physically, never skip Nine, if you you’re missing so much, he was incredible as the character
New Whovians: Interesting...
Old Whovians: WELCOME BACK DOCTOR!!!!
"RUN FOR YOUR LIFE!"
i said "Fantastic!"
***** Initially i didn't like this episode
Now it's a masterpiece
I'm a New Whovian!
RedVelvetD0nut so was i,but literaly the day before the 50th aniversary so i was confused
His first word perfectly sums up the new generation of Doctor Who
And the plot of The Maze Runner
Sam Kirby ahahahahahaha that was so random dude
+SupremeChickenx roood
And Jurassic World.
Daniel Appleton I’m curious as to this theory.
The word that sums up the old generation is “talk”
When I was 5 years old, I watched a very scary show they call Doctor Who. The show was filled with explosions, monsters, and robots. Little did I know, 9 years later I'd would be watching the same episode, but with a whole lot more excitement.
HIGH FIVE!
Rudi VanDisarzio ^^ thats every 14 year old watching doctor who
:D ikr
MissJrCupcake, Very clever. Nice trick! Who were they then, students? Is this a student thing or what?
Rafiquee Ara Huh?
[2:58] Doctor: "I'm the Doctor, by the way; What's your name?" Rose: "Rose." Doctor (with a very funny face): "Nice to meet you, Rose; run for your life!!!" Ecclenton is so, so... I mean, so..... FANTASTIC!
All of them have been brilliant. Allonze!
Yeah I love that part. It's very funny to me anyway.
I love how he is holding a ticking timebomb and yet he has the time to go back and ask her name
Can we just appreciate Rose here for a second? She went from a scared, nineteen year old retail worker stuck in a basement to a powerful, fearless defender of the Earth. The character arcs in this show are truly great.
I just noticed from your comment. Compared to here, it's like she's become someone else at the end.
i miss him as the doctor. come back christopher!!! 😢
His first act as The Doctor? To grab Rose's hand! Sweet.
And first word? Run!
I wish I could grab Rose's hand. ❤
I wish I could grab the Doctor’s hand
I wish i could grab the Time Vortex.
i wish i could grab the doctor's ears.
I love how she's walking down the street, trying to remain inconspicuous, while HOLDING AN ARM. There's no non-awkward way to do that.
Oh god I love that doctor.
"I'm the doctor!"
Your not the doctor unless your referring to the line he says to rose
haha "Nice to meet you, Rose.
RUN FOR YOUR LIFE! :D"
the way Eccleston says that last line with a smile always made me laugh XD
I know right same here man.
And smile a shit ton 😂
Come on, Rose. Give us a good snogging, love!
The best doctor. He will be sorely missed in the 50th anniversary episode. Not having him there, even just for one scene, ruins the whole occasion for me.
laminarflow1979 Blame Chris.
I mean, he did appear for a few seconds...
He forced Moffat to waste the regeneration left after Matt
@@Hilda_ogden I thank him because that means we got John Hurts brilliant war doctor
Alex the Muffin not his fault
I was just 5 years old when I first watched this with all of my family around the living room.
I remember my Dad being so excited for it so he made me and my brothers and sisters watch it, and god I'm glad he did! It literally changed my life
+HannahElizabeth I was only three...
+A Man named Spyman In Germany it is so little known that I first heared about it 2 Months ago, as I was 16 years
+J.U.Steffen Yup, it's not a really popular show out of the anglo states.
Yes :/ I love this series.
I was a wee two year old... I think I broke the telly a day before NuWho aired
"To get that many people dressed up and being silly..they got to be students."
This was the time before flash mobs.
hollywoodwerewolf A flash - mob of living plastic humanoids, that would be interesting.
Nine is most remembered for raging at the Daleks, but his love for explosions can't be appreciated enough ~~
That whole exchange/monologue was just so much of an instant love moment.
...interestingly, neither of them was actually seeing the other for the first time, although they didn't know it, and, in Rose's case, never may.
That is very interesting actually. The war doctor saw Rose's form with "the moment" and Rose saw the tenth doctor already right before he died. That's why i love time travel shows (: If's also very sad though.
Gamelover254 Yeah, I liked how they added a "book end" from the other side.
There it was. the one word that got me hooked.
Run!
Christopher Eccleston... One of the most underrated actors to portray the doctor ever
You know... When I saw images of Eccleston as the Doctor, I thought “Is that seriously the Doctor? He can’t be the Doctor!” Then I watched this episode, and before you know it, I was saying “Yeah, that’s the Doctor.”
I feel like this could happen for every human
Yeah, took me about twenty seconds to accept him as the Doctor, partly helped by my relief that he wasn't dressed up in a ridiculous costume which had been my biggest fear.
He's my favorite doctor!
Mine too!
"Nice to meet you, Rose. Run for your life."
I don't know why, but I love the way he says 'run for your life'.
Yep exactly same thing here.
9 years ago, a young and stupid 8 year old had his life changed forever thanks to this great show. To the future my friends.
Ditto!
~ Jester and Sly
Same for me at the same time!
And now it’s been 15 years for u
ME TOOOO
Same
"Nice to meet you Rose. Run for your life."
2:59 - 3:03 - The best scene in New Who History, if not THE BEST scene in the entire 51 year history.
I don't know about that. David Tenant (Doctor # 10) had some great scenes.
Duo Maxwel That was an awesome line though... definitely one of my favorites
That line really just captures the whole essence of the Doctor.
+Duo Maxwel not really
+iRay Nice to meet you Rose, RUN FOR YER LIFE!! xD
He is really underrated. I liked this doctor!
This is the scene that changed my life. The scene that introduced me to Doctor Who and made me a Whovian for life.
- Sly
Seventeen years and the "run for your life" bit still makes me chuckle.
I miss Rose
galaxyedits me too 😭😭
I dont
Same heeere
She was so hot!!
*opens the door* i'm the doctor by the way whats yours? Rose... Nice to meet you rose RUN FOR YOUR LIFE!
The thing I love most about this clip is the music that plays when you see the TARDIS. It's the first few notes of the main melody of the Doctor Who theme; which was the "Doctor's theme" in the classic series. Just such a lovely little touch.
3:52 still gives me chills
The TARDIS
Doctor: who's Wilson? Rose: chief electrician Doctor: Wilson's dead.
BEST LINE SO FAR
Till this day manikins still freak the hell out of me. Thank you Dr Who
Leave it to Moffat to make people afraid of things like manikins and angel statues and make fond of glasses, stetsons and fezzes.
***** People thinking Davis is a better writer than Moffat....
Adam Duffield they probably haven't watched Sherlock.
***** Because farting aliens are a far better addition to the series than River Song and the Weeping Angels...
Parker8752 I would honestly rather have farting aliens than the abomination that is River Song. She was alright in Silence in the Library, but she got worse and worse as the show went on. And I don't like Moffat either. His arcs are littered with plot holes, and he has made Sontarans comedy relief. Damn it. At this point, I'm only really watching the show out of loyalty more than because of enjoyment. I can not wait till Moffat leaves.
It's 2019 and I will never get tired of "Nice to meet you Rose, run for your life"
"By the way, what's your name?"
"Rose."
"Nice to meet you, Rose. Run for your life!"
He was my favourite Doctor!
I love the character development from the way he was in 'Dalek' to the way he was in 'The Parting of the Ways'.
Christopher Eccleston was my first Doctor, he will always have a place in my heart. It's a shame that he never saw himself as the Doctor, a sentiment fans disagree with.
Not going to lie, the RUN got me hooked, the elevator made me intrigued and the quick fire introduction, followed by "Run for your life!" made this my first introduction to Doctor Who and Nine my Doctor.
If only we can convince him to return, we could do Doctor Who prequel, showing how he managed to become a Doctor again after the time war. IF he returns.
BlotBit Oh, really? I haven't had a chance to read Beast of Babylon. I knew it happened in those 30 seconds, but I didn't realize it also included those other things during that time. That makes it likely that the Ninth Doctor's first day or so was spent tracking down the Auton transmitter. It must have been at least a day or so because the regeneration is already fully stabilized and he's already picked out his outfit in this scene.
What happened to all the comments here???
They did. The special 50th anniversary epsode "The Day of the Doctor"
Mightymite He wasn't in that. They recycled a clip from "The Parting of the Ways" in the scene where all the Doctors save Gallifrey, and they CGI'd his face into the last few frames of the War Doctor's regeneration, but he didn't film anything new.
OrangeKyle91 Eccleston wanted to be in it, but the BBC turned him down due to lack of a script involving his Doctor.
Although I loved the Tenth Doctor more. The Ninth Doctor was the one who introduced me to the show.
Best doctor
Happy 9th anniversary to the new series of Doctor Who!
"Run."
That's it. With just his first word, the new Doctor just summed up the ENTIRE show.
I can't believe this will soon be 10 years ago.
Doctor: "I'm The Doctor, by the way. What's your name?"
Rose: "Rose."
Doctor: "Nice to meet you, Rose. Run for your life!"
Xander Wardwell-Gaw Where it all began!
Cant believe this turned 15 yesterday a season a new doctor Chris was truly fantastic
Oh my gosh, people! Chris Eccleston signed on for one season and the producers and writers agreed to it. He wanted the privilege of reintroducing the Doctor back into television. If any of you had ever watched any of his interviews, or any interviews with any of the writers or producers, you would know this! Lay off them and him! He was awesome and amazing, and let's remember him that way!
Just gotta say that, in all these clips from Eccleston's Doctor, it makes me happy to see how many people absolutely love his portrayal. 10 is my favorite, but 9 is special (and my fiance's favorite). Several of my favorite episodes come from his era and he does a fantastic job balancing silly snarkiness, rage, melancholy, and trauma response, among other qualities. In some ways, he does it better than 10 or 11 (though, perhaps not in every way I should add so as not to discredit any of these three great actors). I've been under the impression for several years that he is, generally, the least-favored incarnation of the Doctor. Maybe it's just that Eccleston's army comes out in full force in these clips, but it makes me happy to know that there is an army to begin with. He deserves it since, without him, Doctor Who may not exist, and certainly not as we know it. He deserved at least two full seasons in the role.
Christopher Eccleston was the best doctor IMO
The scene that made me a Whovian...
Who cares
+TheGeoXWar doctor who
+TheGeoXWar if you don't care why did you reply?
HoursofMovies He is asking "Who cares" not i dont care.
Me too..
Should of stayed in the show longer, such a great doctor :D
*Should have
I can’t believe this is almost 14 years old
As much as I love Ten and especially Eleven I wish there had been more than one series with Nine, Ecclestone was just amazing.
"Nice to meet you rose, run for your life"
That line is so amusing how he says it!
When I first began Doctor Who, I thought this was the dumbest thing I'd ever watched. Now it makes me smile just to go back and watch Eccleston make his first appearance. Best show ever.
Totally agree lol watching the 1st episode with the Autons was a lil cheesy but then the Doctor comes in and tells you to run and the rest is history. The doctor becomes your best friend instantly
I love how in the Children in Need special when Rose isn't convinced 10 is really The Doctor, he recounts this exact scene to her and that's when she realizes it's really him.
I wish I could say this clip is what cemented my love for the show, unfortunately that honor goes to another episode that aired later. I found Doctor Who quite late. The 6th series had already been on dvd, as such my introduction to the show was working as a camp counselor sitting in the staff cabin lounge during a thunderstorm on our day off in 2012, when a group of my friends/fellow staff came in popped in the episode Impossible Astronaut and we proceeded to watch the entire 6th series over the course of the day, and then after our "shift ends" throughout the week.
After that summer, I tried looking for ways to watch Doctor Who, but I didn't have access to any legal means, and for some reason that was and still is important to me. As such it was not until last year I managed to find The Chris Eccleston/David Tennant collection on sale at a local book store and proceeded to purchase it. (I've since purchased the Matt Smith collection as well, but have yet to finish watching it)
That said, this clip is the first of many that ensured Chris Eccleston's portrayal of The Doctor would remain my favorite.
All these years later, and this introduction to the doctor has become so much more perfect. One word, hand in hand... RUN. Run. Just like he always has, and he never stopped.
I'm the doctor by the way what's your name?
Rose
Nice to meet you Rose, RUN FOR YOUR LIFE!
And so it begins.....
_"Plastics."_
One of the greatest pilot episodes in TV history
"Nice to meet you Rose. Run for your life!"
I swear every time I rewatch this episode I smile like an idiot the whole way through, I love this episode so much :))
I don't guess, why Rose took the plastic arm with her.
I guess she wanted a HAND in the situation
fay She was in a state of shock and couldn't really get a grasp on the situation so she just followed what the Doctor told her and forgot everything else(including holding the arm)
Get a... _grasp_ on the situation?
Thank god i thought you meant by sexual
@@rangopistacho6928 me too LOL
"Nice to meet you Rose. RUN FOR YOUR LIFE!" I bet it wasn't so nice meeting you!
The good old days when we had a real doctor and companion with a decent show runner........
I bet you’re going to have a really great year
Eccleston was clearly my all-time favorite Doctor, and you can bet I wasn't too happy when he quit the series after one season. His mix of humor and angst were what made him a "true" Doctor.
I remember being forced to watch this scene as a kid.
Little did I know these two characters would one day be some of my favorite ever created in fiction.
you had me at "Run". God i miss Nine.
I love that the first word we hear from the ninth doctor is "run". Absolutely perfect.
Ergodic Mage *The Ninth Doctor's first word.
The (First) Doctor's first words really were "What are you doing here?"
But he said "Run"
jakeman8273 The Ninth Doctor did. Mage referred to him as the First Doctor, which is harshly incorrect.
My Favorite All Time Doctor
This scene... it's so special for me. I can remember the exact night my sister and I watched this for the first time. I just... I had no idea how special this moment would become for me. That when the Doctor took her hand and whispered, "Run!" it was the beginning of something very, very important in my life.
he will always be my favorite Doctor, he was the first i watch and i watched every single one of his episodes, i like the 2 after him as well, especially the 1 right after but he still sits on the Throne for me.
I always thought 9 and Rose were better than 10 and Rose because 9 has a much older and wiser intellect than Rose(though they treat each other equally) whereas 10 just had a huge IQ.
agreed, so much. 10 just relished her attention whereas 9 was IN love with her and vice versa. but fangirls just prefer 10 since he's omgyoungandhot and can project themselves onto Rose to be with 10 that way.
AuroraInBlue Hey, I can project myself on 10 - though you didn't hear me say that - but I can still recognise the superior relationship. 9 seemed be so much more gentle and Doctorish in their developing match.
It doesn't matter why. The fact is: Nine and Rose were a better match.
AuroraInBlue I personally do fangirl over 10 for those reasons but I hate people who say hes better just because of his looks. I love some of 10's lines and humour but 9 and 11 I feel are just better doctors overall.
***** , I'm The Doctor by the way
mannequin challenge
best one yet
Esth Games where u need to move and dress up as mannequins
Its all a secret plan put in place by the Nestene Consciousness.
Rose wasn't playing along dammit lol
As Clara would say,
"Run you clever boy!"
Having "Run!" as Eccleston's first word as The Doctor is brilliant. I was hooked from the start of the reboot-- Can't believe it was 9 years ago!
And now your comment was 9 years ago. Sometimes I wish I could return to the early 2000s! Simpler times, it seems.
Those were the days when people were looking forward to Dr who real show runner no preaching just great stories
"Nice to meet you, Rose. Now, run for your life!" That's it. The exact moment I fell in love.
Just the way he says "Run for your life" is awesome in my honest opinion.
"Run." The Doctor's first word has defined the entirety of the revived series.
I like how his first line is RUN!
Bethanee Stephens This word made me a Whovian. From here I could not stop watching Doctor Who .. :) ;)
Rose is so likeable
This was the scene that made me a Doctor Who fan.
Why was the ninth doctor so short? He was my favourite 😭
Eccleston disliked the way things were run. He loved being the Doctor, though.
+AnnaVlogs He also didn't think he was a good doctor. :(
+Hunter Rogers Well...he was wrong! X
As above.
Also, Christopher Eccleston has said he doesn't ever want to be caught in the typecast trap. If you do something for so long, that's all you get remembered for. He likes to do something and move on and do something else. If you look across his career, he's done some fantastic things, nearly all completely different to the last and all superbly. I rate him extremely highly, equal to and above many other Doctors.
In my preference of Doctor, he definitely rates above Ten Inch, Davidson, Colin Baker, McGann and Smith.
If you play the Doctor, no matter for how long, you are going end up being remembered as the Doctor
I love that Rose is still carrying the arm even after the building explodes and she runs away from the inferno.
