What I love about this regeneration is that it shows that when the doctor is regenerating in front of his friends, he puts on a brave face to ease them through the transition. But when he is alone, we see how truly scared he is of his personality being completely rewritten, hence the "I don't want to go" line.
Nice theory! I like it. He feels like he needs to be the one that's brave for his friends' sake but when he's alone, he lets himself be scared... that's a really Doctor-y thing to do! I'm sad now... haha :D
I had never watched Dr Who until the 10th (Tenant). I knew the program existed, however i had never watched it. David Tenant and Matt Smith were incredible doctors, imo.
Damn. Well played, Russell T Davies. Now all you need to do is get rid of Chris Chibnall's era and prove that you've still got it. Don't soil this awesome legacy.
I love David Tennant , but Steven Mofatt taking over from Russel T Davies started a better era . David Tennant did have a wobble over his decision to leave and met with Steven Moffat about series 5 but in the end he stuck to his gut and we were blessed with Matt Smith .
It needs to be said how lucky we got with Matt Smith. Tennant left some big shoes to fill and we could've had so much worse. Matt was a perfect follow-up to David.
If Peter Capaldi had come directly after David Tennant, Doctor Who would have died in Season 5. Matt Smith was the perfect Doctor right from the start while Capaldi took at least an entire Season, and I would argue even longer, to become a Doctor who was even worth watching, never mind outright rooting for. If Clara Oswald hadn't been carrying Season 8 on her shoulders, Doctor Who would have died an ignominious death right after it reached it's peak in the 50th Anniversary. There's a reason Season 8 is called Clara Who and, despite the views of some people on the internet, it isn't the writing because the "am I a good man?" storyline is brilliant on paper. It's simply the fact that Jenna Coleman was acting circles around Peter Capaldi, despite easily being young enough to be his daughter. And no Doctor Who fan (by which I mean actual fans, not activists pretending to be fans) goes beyond Capaldi's era until Chris Chibnall's shit is permanently erased from Doctor Who history. For all my bashing of Capaldi, he DID become the Doctor and was even pretty good at it after he stopped unintentionally being the Valeyard (seriously, watch Michael Jayston gaslight and project onto Colin Baker and compare it to Capaldi doing the same thing to Clara in Season 8). He just took "the long way 'round".
@@tomnorton4277 Although, we were pretty fortunate with Capaldi too, at least for American audiences. The switch from Smith to Capaldi also marked the removal of the show from Netflix over to HBO. That lost a lot of the audience because Netflix was still in its prime, it was top of the game back then. If Capaldi hadn't had for himself a charm that made people want to watch him, American audiences would've likely never made the switch, not unless they already had HBO.
Ikr? And Peter Capaldi was a great follow up to Matt full of adventure very wise and took the role making it his own he didn’t try to be anybody else Peter was his own doctor but Jodi was meh I didn’t like her as the 13th doctor
Two things: Remember watching this when it first came out, amazing moment of Doctor Who. Matt Smith killed it in his first scene, David Tennent killed it in his last scene - both amazing Doctors! Why so many comments about BLOODY SPODERMAN
What I love about the Tenth Doctor is that he's essentially a classical tragic hero. His story had to end without a satisfying realisation of peace and contentment. In his final moments he had to go unwillingly, alone, in rage and chaos, because his story is the story of his downfall, with events and his own actions resulting in his death. He was the most turbulent and conflicted Doctor and, from a storyteller's perspective, David Tennant was the centre of the most epic and ambitious run in the entire history of the series.
+TwoTimeLords ive only just got used to peter capaldi he been a doctor for a few years now. i didn't find the change to bad from david tennant to matt smith. matt smith kind of won me over from the start
It's really sad. David's Doctor was a story of a Doctor that got too attached. He may regenerate, but he still feels like he's gone forever. So when he does go, he's full of regret. And because of that, he turns into the man that forgets. He saw what happens if he gets too attached, or cares about someone too much, especially himself, and so he turns into a man who can barely finish a thought before running on to the next one. It's a sad story, as David's Doctor doesn't get a happy ending. He just disappears forever behind the face of a twelve year old one a permanent sugar high. Not hate to Matt (he's my favorite). I just wanted to share this because of how cool it is that starting with 10, each life has its own character arc that culminates in their next regeneration and their new personality.
JD_KYLE it’s pretty simple if you think about it what happens with nine is that he realises that he loves Rose, so when he regenerates he turns into a man who’s young, good looking and sweet someone who nine wasn’t at all due to him regenerating just after the time war had ended so he was filled with hatred and anger and he tried his best to hide all of that.Hope this made sense
And that's why 11th Doctor was so teary happy on having Christmas dinner with Amy and Rory.. He finally had a family which he missed not having while being 10th doctor
And then 12 becomes more of a adult and a bit angry after 11 because he learnt he didn’t kill the timelords and now doesn’t have to act childish to try and regain the title of timelord but he’s also slightly angry because of how fatigued he his if doing this stuff for over 2000 years.
David Tennant killed it in his last scene, then Matt somehow still managed to get me glued to the screen and laughing in his first! Kudos to both the actors
Has no one else realized that Day Of The Doctor, End Of Time, Eleventh Hour, Beast Below and Victory Of The Daleks all takes place during the same day for the Doctor? Blimey...
Can i just point out. Every doctor since this has had one "final speech" before they regenerate to get some emotional remark, but DT did everything in just 5 words....
@@2kewell haha ethan was like "well you're wrong, if my calculation is correct. The 9th doctor is the best and whatever you said was the stupidest thing ever"
"I don't wanna go" is similar to what Tennent said in an interview once. he didn't want to leave but knew that if he stayed he'd become attached to the roll.
he already was attached to the role, but he left because he knew that if he kept going on fans would inevitably get tired of him and demand a new doctor, so he left at the right time
Christopher echelston = the loveable gentleman, one of the greats "rose, you are fantastic......do you know what?........so was i" Davidtennent = the romantic goofball, the doctor Donna "a-ha, allons-y!" Matt Smith = goofball, your best friend, fish fingers and custard "Geronimo!" Peter capaldi = the well acted argumentative one "run, you cleaver boy" Jolie whittaker = the children's bizarre rambling doctor "What is that word...its on the tip of my toung"
10 was born out of 9's love and gratitude for Rose. 11 was born out of 10's loneliness and excessive guilt over what happened to Rose, Martha, and especially Donna. 10 regenerated alone, terrified that he'd either forget or dismiss the real joy and laughter he had in this life. 11 regenerated in front of Clara, the person who saved his life countless times and brought back his genuine happiness after losing Amy & Rory.
honeslty regeneration can be controlled but the doc just does it subconsciously based on who he needs to be but i did notice certain time lords understand the trick...... like the master.... hmm or maybe hes the only one
@@DECA808 Romana was able to try out a few bodies before deciding on her regeneration. Maybe the Doctor was just absent from school the day that bit was explained :)
I generally don't cry about things like this, but the this regeneration really tugged at my heartstring. I was bawling my eyes out for 10 minutes after seeing David regenerate. He touched my heart in ways no other TV character has and he was my favorite Doctor by a mile. Bye David, you will be missed.
That moment when you realise that he said "I don't want to go" not just because he liked being in that form but also because he knew the next one will be his last.
To me, the Tenth will always be the most human of the Doctors. His regeneration, to me, was not the beginning of a new life, but truly a death. In the scenes prior, he thought he would live. He thought he had more time. When Wilfred knocked, I broke down. So did the Doctor. He was /defeated/. He knew then that his time was up. He saved one last life, and ended his own as that Doctor. It wasn't bittersweet, like Nine's, or Eleven's, it was downright heartbreaking. Both of them. He was alone when he died. He had no hand to hold. Nothing makes me doubt humanity more than when I hear 'Oh, he whined as he regenerated.' How would you react, if you faced that alone? Faced not just death, but knowing that someone completely different would walk around calling themselves you? How would you feel when you died like that, after being so close to surviving? 'I don't want to go' is 'I don't want to die', to me. And who does? I don't, and I don't know if I could have done what Ten did. I don't know if I could save Wilfred. I am scared of dying, and so was he.
When tenth left I felt even like if the nine-tenth cicle was finished. When Eccleston left the show it was only he, Rose and Donna and Martha and Jack kept coming to the show once here and there and the story felt real. All characters was part of that cicle. When nine left all this guys talked to tenth like he was nine, because it was. At least nine and tenth was part of the same story and they share love and hate for the same things, and they were loved and hated by the same people. But when tenth left it doesn't fell like eleventh will take his place just where he left the show. It feels in fact like tenth died there, and with him died everyone else in the show 'cause deep in your heart you know that the rest of theese guys will not come back and take their place in story like they did when Tennant appeard. Tennats final hour represents the final hour of Rose, Mickey, Donna, Martha, Ben and all the guys in the show. Altough they make their way and could live at least a little happy, they will never be in the story and will ever be the same as they were when Eccleston-Tennant were in show. In the other hand We have Rory and Amy with Smith, wich background story was lacky in the beginning but then Rory became "The boy who waited"... That was absolutely Fantastic.
***** He didn't. If you look at the four takes they made this one is the bravest. He always is and was vulnearable especially emotionally and he was there for so long. I think the quotes at the regeneration are not only the different Doctors speaking but also the actors. "You were fantastic. Absolutly fantastic. And you know what? So was I." and "I don't wanna go." and "I will always remember when the Doctor was me."
L.T. Haunter You don't say? A TV show and a movie are in general very similar except that a show is longer. It's not like it's about videogames and a show.
"We all change, when you think about it, we're all different people, all through our lives. And that's okay, that's good, you've got to keep moving, so long as you remember all the people you used to be." The Doctor - Doctor Who The Time of The Doctor
Everyone is sad that he died alone, but I'm glad because for the first time in a long time, the next doctor had the chance to start fresh with no previous companions or plotlines. That made 11 such a good starting point for new viewers, and had an incredible first episode.
Mark Forbes Matt's was more badass. Tennant knew he still had a regeneration left but still whined and was scared of going, whereas Matt knew full well it was his last life but still basically told the Daleks to do their worst.
Proof that Moffat, for all his failings, had more grace than RTD. Actively wishing the new Doctor and team luck instead of hammering home what a shame it was that his era was over.
JESK1985 I agree, "I don't want to go" seems very whiny and out of character, whereas Doctor, I let you go is so the Doctor, he accepts his fate, he accepts what's going to happen, which I love
JESK1985 you guys are wrong, and obviously did not pay attention to the story. The WHOLE reason that David was so sad to go, is that in the doctor who story, he gets the least time before regeneration, in Matt Smith series, there are alot of trips not in the actual show, but this is referenced a few times so we know this is true. Moffat is terrible at making long stories, he can make a few episodes, but The Doctor would never be sarcastic around Daleks, he fears them, but that is exactly what Moffat did, made him to goffy. RTD also knew how to play comedy into the story and how it effects different things, more info on that in other videos, that other people made.
Elemental Fire The Tenth Doctor was still whiny in this story and it's a shame as he's one of the most heroic Doctors but he seemed out of character in The End of Time. Of course the Tenth Doctor is vain but I didn't like how he lashed out on Wilf when he knocked 4 times and saying that Wilf is nothing important, I actually felt for Wilf.
iKillerZombie I'm just watching the show for the first time on Netflix, so I knew the line was coming. Still, even though I knew it was coming...didn't make it any easier...
By all you mean 9-12, right? Or are you one of the brilliant people who haven't only seen new who. I mean, I've only seen pieces of old who. Several episodes, but very few compared to how many there were.
***** I only just got to Matt's Doctor (8 episodes in I believe), but so far...he's not bad by any means, but I just don't quite feel he reflects the gravity of the situations nearly as well as Tennant. I'm hoping he fits better as I continue...but god, what David could have done with Moffat's stories after he took over.
***** Because the format of sequential storytelling used for TV is called a serial. So a collection of a serialized TV show is a series. That is true of both the UK and the US. The real difference is in the US we use series to refer to the entire show, with each yearly installment being a season. In the UK, because each yearly installment typically has a story resolution of sorts, they refer to each year as a serial.
I just realized how smart a choice it was for Matt's doctor to follow Tennant. I feel like 10's personality was so loved, that a large change would have turned many away. Instead they gave a doctor with similar attributes.
It was sad when 10 left but when Matt came out of the regeneration in the blast of his mad and joyful personality, I I really couldn’t help smiling and loving him within the first few moments.
I'm admittedly nitpicking, but how come the regeneration energy is intense enough to screw up the TARDIS but doesn't even singe his suit? I know Time Lords have a keen fashion sense but manipulating one of their biological processes to specifically not damage fabrics seems like a weird priority.
I just loved David Tennant's doctor. Obviously everyone has their favorite, but i loved this doctor's furious silence, and you could just see how truly lonely he was in the end. It's not like he did it because he had to for some greater cause, or because he was dying immediately. He was dying slowly because he was kind.
To those who criticise the 10th Doctor for being fearful as he regenerated, you have to remember that he's experienced death before when he was exterminated by a Dalek. Obviously it isn't the first time The Doctor's regenerated but no other incarnation can remember what death feels like as they haven't remained as the same incarnation both before and after the regeneration. The 10th Doctor however did know and clearly didn't want to feel death again. It can also been seen as the 10th incarnation being The Doctor's personal favourite incarnation as he says 'I don't want to go.' which clearly shows he loved being the 10th Doctor.
with how it was set up after 2013, i kinda see it as him knowing that after that he cant have regenerated anymore. (at that time with the timelines being in flux like they were he didnt remember saving gallifrey.)
That's one way of seeing it I suppose seeing as he hadn't received another regeneration cycle at this point and to his knowledge, this was his last regeneration.
BritNerdy Excuse me for asking, but when was the 10th doctor killed by a Dalek? I really cant remember! Also, just adding to what you had to say. I think another reason he didn't want to re-generate is because then he would lose any chance of once again meeting his previous companions, like Martha Jones or Rose Tyler. I know technically he's not supposed be be able to see these characters again anyway, but imagine being in his shoes. Losing any shred of a chance that you had left, losing all contact with all the people you know and loved in the past, and knowing that you will never be able to meet them again.
BritNerdy No, the Tenth incarnation was only it's favorite to its self. The 11th even criticizes it. He said that the 10th incarnation had vanity issues.
Saddest moment in television history, the combination of the music, the absolutely fantastic acting of David Tennant, all these factors combined make this scene absolutely profound.
I swear this scene is just so iconic, David's heart breaking leave and Matts exciting entrance. This always has and always will make me feel sad yet so excited!
I think what really gets me in this scene is not the emotion Ten feels ("I don't want to go"), but Eleven's lack of emotional attachment to the situation. Yes, technically it's the same organism on each side of the regeneration, but Ten really is dying when he regenerates. Since Doomsday, Ten always feels pain over the loss of Rose Tyler, and no matter how hard he tries, he can't replace we. The new doctor that comes out is completely oblivious; his love for Rose is gone, and he's all but forgotten the rest of Ten's crew. The Tenth Doctor says "I don't want to go," which doesn't make sense at first; he's not dying, just regenerating- but then, when you see Eleven, you see the truth: he really is dying. And it's terrifying.
I don't think that's how it works, he still loves rose as a later episode when he's poised he asks the tardis to show him someone that he cares about and the tardis shows rose, he replies with, "yes thank you!". The doctors personality might change but the memories of his past lives still live on.
@@ethanruzic8071 you took that out of context. When Eleven asked for someone he cared about, and the TARDIS shows him Rose, he says this: “Oh, thanks... give me guilt” (turns into Martha) “Also guilt” (turns into Donna) “More guilt!” The Eleventh Doctor still cares about his former companions(albeit not in a romantic way anymore for Rose), but he feels horrible because he knows that he ruined their lives. Rose was trapped in that parallel universe, and even when she had the ability to return, she had to go back because he was officially dead in her universe. Her and her mother. Martha fell in love with the Doctor, but he was still getting over Rose, and didn’t return her affections. Her family was targeted by the Master, and were enslaved by him, and even though the year that they were the Masters’ prisoners was undone, they still remembered all of it. Donna grew as a person and became a hero in her own right while traveling with the Doctor, but he had to erase her memory of those times to save her life. He felt guilty because he had already lost so much and hated loosing Donna. That’s why he was so happy to see young Amelia, she hadn’t travelled with him yet, and he felt no guilt about seeing her.
"We all change when you think about it we are all different people all through our life's and that's okay, that's good you've gotta keep moving so long as you remember all the people that you use too be" - 11th doctor
I don't think that's the reason David's Doctor is breathing hard. As David is regenerating, he's heating up because the radiation is starting to leave his body. Also, as David is heating up, he's trying to compensate by trying to get more oxygen into his lungs.
+coaster king no, the radiation doesn't leave his body. Otherwise the TARDIS would flood with radiation and kill him before he could regenerate. The radiation stays in 10's body, and then gets destroyed along with 10's body. I don't think radiation can be destroyed, actually, but, y'know, doctor who.
People always say that Tennant's farewell was that Doctor was too attached and he couldn't take it like a man. I think of it like this, in Smith and Eccleston's regeneration they were accompanied by a companion so rather than speak out what they think, they try to comfort the companion into accepting the new Doctor. In here, Tennant is alone and he has no one to talk to, so rather than comfort someone he speaks what he really feels about since he had many darn allies as this Doctor and hates to leave them.
I'm gonna meet you at your house and it was in the sky with little hair and makeup on your face and pictures with Christopher Lloyd of a tiny green man with little hair cut off a long line for him and he said that you are a tiny green man.
You mean 40 minutes of build up then 5 minutes of waving a magic wand leaving you feeling dissapointed? If thats your idea of best then whatever, im guessing thats because you grew up with him as he degenerated as a character into screaming monologues about unfair life, how dark he is so often.
Cried so much when David left he will always be my number one, ever since he left I've never really been able to fully get back into Doctor Who, he's ruined me for other Doctors now.
He's my first Doctor. I've always wondered what he meant when he said "I don't want to go." Was it vanity issue or fear of turning into a new person with a new personality?
You should understand his pain, he has to completely change into a new personality and face all the time for about 800 years it kinda puts it's toll on you.
The Tenth expressed earlier on that he really did not want to regenerate. "I die, and some new man goes sauntering off with my name." That was how he saw his regeneration towards the end. The Tenth Doctor had grown very content with how he was, and was afraid of regenerating into the 11th.
Through the ENTIRE series as him being the doctor his catch phrase was "Allons-y!" which means Lets go in french, him saying "I don't want to go" was possible the most heart breaking thing a doctor has said, except, of course, matt smith.
He probably knew it was supposed to be his last regeneration, so he didn't want to go. I think that's also why the 11th Doctor lived so much longer, he was trying to escape death for as long as possible.
The way this was set and even David Tennant was able to follow the act in such a brilliant way (not forgetting the music) making it even more dramatic... My favourite regeneration yet!
Reason why this is my favorite regeneration scene. It went from very sad and making every Whovian cry to very hilarious and making them laugh the next second
***** But it's the different personalities that makes it upsetting. If you really like how one Doctor acts, or things he does or says, it is all gone. I still love them all though, I think Capaldi is doing a fantastic job.
i watched this episode for the first time the other day the tenth doctor is my favorite so far and i think always will be so I've found myself becoming quite emotional the past few days helP
I remember watching this after my separation and then eventual divorce. I had a whole life that I have lived and suddenly it was over. The lines, “I don’t want to go” I felt was an extension of my own conscious, knowing you need to change but nothing and I mean nothing would ever be the same. DT was my doctor although i started with 9 who’s a great Segway into the doctor who universe. Those words, “I don’t want to go” make me ball every time whether happy or sad, just the realisation that things change about you without your distinct permission and drill to the core of your soul.
Say what you will about Tennant's final line being out of character, but you gotta admit it's a very touching and effective scene. And Matt Smith's first appearance being totally insane sets him up well too.
It's not really out of character when you consider Waters of Mars. His dark side came out in that episode, especially with the well-known "Time Lord victorious" rant. I don't know why anyone would be surprised with his final words.
***** It's even worse when you consider that, at this point, he's recovering from being the "Timelord Victorius"; he's becoming a nicer person and rather than being "The Timelord Victorious", he chooses to save Wilfred and become the Doctor again. That makes it all the worse.
Nep, that's exactly my thoughts. 0:25 "Oh no! I'm gonna miss David! I don't care who the next guy is! I refuse to like him! No matter what, nothing he can d-" 1:15 "...Okay I love this guy."
Another theory that abounded was that 10 was afraid his next regeneration might be the Valeyard, a combination of all the Doctor's darker aspects and worst instincts.
At first, I was mildly disappointed with his regeneration. I think it was mostly because he was sad..but I realize it better now. Firstly, he didn't have a very long life span, compared to the other Doctors. *Only a few years.* Secondly, I witnessed him growing so much more attached to humans as the Tenth more than ever. Now this regeneration means a lot more to me. I didn't want him to go, either.
Jetfire dude no he's talking about his life outside the show. Matt Smiths doctor lived for i think ore than 200 years and Capaldi's lived for over a billion (the episode where he's stuck in his confession dial). Ecclestone's is unknown but it could be around 40 years due to the Time War taking up a lot of time
smith was 200+around 500 on Trensalore, Capaldi around 400 if you don't count confession dial. Ecclestone probably lived even less then tennant, when we see him in Rose episode, he sees his ears for the first time, so he lived 2-3 years. (9th said he is 900 and 10th 903)
ShadowKiller90 You're right math doctors are the fun for learning how to do math, but why a math doctor? I like medical and scientist doctors... math doctors always know what the answer is to my math test, stupid math doctors.
You know, the thing that makes those final words so much more sad is the fact that. David used ''Allons-y'' as his catch phrase, meaning ''Let's go'' in french, but when he did actually start to go.. He didn't want to.
What started as a sad scene quickly turned into one of smiles as we realized just how awesome Matt Smith was going to be even though we were sad to see David Tennent leave.
*_David Tennant was and always will be my favourite Doctor...I'm so glad we get to see him later on in the series again in 'Day Of The Doctor', and I can't wait to see David and Matt in the 60th Anniversary in 2023!!!_*
Honestly, who can blame you? To me, David Tennant is great, definitely a popular doctor for a reason. But David's portrayal is literally how I imagined the doctor to look and sound like.
+kubek "Last regeneration" 1.He has 11 more. 2. The reason why 10th's was violent was because he hold it back to say goodbye to his friends and for 11th because it was a new regeneration cycle.
manzilla48 Declining? It's getting more popular than ever! If you are talking about the recent lack of views in Britain, well it's because of the Rugby Cup who was on TV at the same time. Most people watch DW later. And there's also millions over millions over millions over millions over millions over millions over millions over millions over of fans who watch it from other countries or via internet. So nope. Rating ain't declining.
Ionut Maris its' far less of a cultural phenomenon and is only something that tumblr using fangirl hipsters watch these days. And the rugby world cup is no excuse. Nearly 8m people were watching strictly come dancing when the rugby was on and when that ended 5m stopped watching bbc 1 when doctor who started. And world wide viewing isn't great which is something the bbc are worried about.
manzilla48 Nah... Ranking are still the same. If they increased by 15% during Series 8 why would they decrease during Series 9, which is even better. Don't believe it. Still, as I said, most fans watch it via other sources rather than BBC One. Most of them later and the big majority of them from other countries. Doctor Who's still getting extra popular in US and many other countries.
Kylo Ren I can say what i like thanks. From what I've seen her in, I didn't like her. It's as simple as that. I'm not really looking forward to series 11
@@bal_rad-dar though the actor didn't confirm this, it's said that it's a high chance that's the reason he spits in that scene. As that part was not in the script
TheExplodingBacon I think I figured out why when David Tennant doctor regenerate energy was put into his hand (other than poor writing or something) it was because the first episode of David doctor he was still going through his regeneration
Madyson Reed His last line still remains one of my pivotal moments in Doctor Who. Matt Smith's speech was all right but I still think this tugged at the heartstrings more
@@sillygoose635 Think about what you're saying. The show went bad because fans didn't like the changes? How is the opinions of fans causation for terrible writing? The show being as bad as it is now is solely the fault of those behind the production. We as the viewers cannot be blamed for the poor decisions of the show writers. The lack of good ratings for season 11 is a direct response to its failure. You can't get mad at fans over that.
@@kyguy3242 Think about what you just said, Yes, the production wasn't that good, and the writing was rubbish, but it's the FANS who influence the show, it's the same fans that love or hate it, the same fans who can overobsess over things and paint a false image. The reason the show being is "bad" is shared BETWEEN the fans and the producers. The producers cannot be blamed by the poor opinions and assumptions we the fans put out there. S11's ratings doesn't exactly mean it failed, it meant that people made their mind up and decided that THEY wouldn't watch. That's their reason to hurt the show. People said the same think about who in the mid to late 80s and by the end of the 80s we got some of the best stories of classic who in years, it was the fans and the viewers that left the show without realizing how great it had gotten, to the point where it got canceled. You are not excused from a blame game.
I'm sad now... haha :D
Or maybe it's just him
ryansoe What do you mean?
i feel the "i don't want to go" line is for that reason and that is the actor saying it through the 4th wall
KingsN' Jenssons Yes, it does :D
What makes ten's regeneration even sadder is that "I don't want to go" is the opposite of "Allons-y!" (Let's go!)

YES! DON'T ASK!
If Capaldi hadn't had for himself a charm that made people want to watch him, American audiences would've likely never made the switch, not unless they already had HBO.
matt was still great but was no david tennant let’s be real lol
Ikr? And Peter Capaldi was a great follow up to Matt full of adventure very wise and took the role making it his own he didn’t try to be anybody else Peter was his own doctor but Jodi was meh I didn’t like her as the 13th doctor

David Tennant is the best Doctor Who! Up until then Jon Pertwee was always my favourite.
Doctor Who's a lot like an abusive relationship: It hurts you, makes you believe it's changed, and then does it all over again

Never Notice That Good Point Poor 10
Actually, 2 regenerated alone. Same with Seven and to an extent, while the Sisterhood was there, even Eight was travelling alone when he regenerated.
2 was forced by the time lords, 7 was presumed dead in a morgue locker, and the sisterhood still counts
War doctor didn't have anyone at his side when he regenerated either.
*****
Except for the War Doctor
Could you give a similar explanation for the regeneration from 9 to 10? You've knocked this one out of the park ;)
JD_KYLE it’s pretty simple if you think about it what happens with nine is that he realises that he loves Rose, so when he regenerates he turns into a man who’s young, good looking and sweet someone who nine wasn’t at all due to him regenerating just after the time war had ended so he was filled with hatred and anger and he tried his best to hide all of that.Hope this made sense
hyper biscuit He didn't get "too" attached.
Sugar doesn't make you hyper, you get excited from the pleasure of having sugar.

Clara had to beg the Time Lords to help the Doctor. Otherwise, the second set of regenerations would not have happened...
You done with you soapbox speech?
he could of saved himself, but chose not too
You say "someone else walking round calling them self you" but it's the same person

Everyone is sad that he died alone, but I'm glad because for the first time in a long time, the next doctor had the chance to start fresh with no previous companions or plotlines. That made 11 such a good starting point for new viewers, and had an incredible first episode.

The transition between the mat Smith and David Tennant eras is so perfect they couldn’t have got it better
10th "I Don't Want to go..."
12th "Doctor... I let you go..."
11 (when crashing the TARDIS): Geronimo!
13 (when falling out of the TARDIS): AAAAAHH!

I'm hoping he fits better as I continue...but god, what David could have done with Moffat's stories after he took over.
***** Is series the same as seasons?
*****
Because the format of sequential storytelling used for TV is called a serial. So a collection of a serialized TV show is a series.
That is true of both the UK and the US. The real difference is in the US we use series to refer to the entire show, with each yearly installment being a season. In the UK, because each yearly installment typically has a story resolution of sorts, they refer to each year as a serial.
Canis Lupus Probably Patrick Troughton was the "best Doctor ever"...although William Hartnell is my favourite.

"And Still Not Ginger" love how that's important to him lol
no... he WANTS to be gingger... he's dissapointed that he's not ginger.. david's version said that he'd always wanted to be ginger
Ah, scratch that... I remeber when he was shot now! End of season 4 :P
He was ranked #3 in Top Ten Saddest Television Deaths (Look it up, it'll be there.)... But that list is wrong.
11 will never replace rory and amy
I saw this exact same essay on another video of 10's regeneration.
@@ethanruzic8071 you took that out of context. When Eleven asked for someone he cared about, and the TARDIS shows him Rose, he says this:
“Oh, thanks... give me guilt” (turns into Martha) “Also guilt” (turns into Donna) “More guilt!”
The Eleventh Doctor still cares about his former companions(albeit not in a romantic way anymore for Rose), but he feels horrible because he knows that he ruined their lives.
In Revolution of the Daleks, Jodie Whittaker never feel anything when Jack say Rose.

Nothing's sad until it's over. And then everything is.
I love the heavy breathing as he's about to regenerate - just shows how truly scared he is of regenerating
I don't think that's the reason David's Doctor is breathing hard. As David is regenerating, he's heating up because the radiation is starting to leave his body. Also, as David is heating up, he's trying to compensate by trying to get more oxygen into his lungs.
+Mark North the radiation never leaves his body.
+Holty The styracosaurus Yes it does? It's literally the whole reason for his regeneration
+coaster king the reason for his regeneration is radiation poisoning
David Tennant: I don't wanna go
9 years later Tennants back
@@RandomFootballGuy wait what
@@RandomFootballGuy oh I was going by the release date of this videos upload
People always say that Tennant's farewell was that Doctor was too attached and he couldn't take it like a man. I think of it like this, in Smith and Eccleston's regeneration they were accompanied by a companion so rather than speak out what they think, they try to comfort the companion into accepting the new Doctor. In here, Tennant is alone and he has no one to talk to, so rather than comfort someone he speaks what he really feels about since he had many darn allies as this Doctor and hates to leave them.
David tennants era is still the best due to him and the storylines
Asvp Sully Agree
I'm gonna meet you at your house and it was in the sky with little hair and makeup on your face and pictures with Christopher Lloyd of a tiny green man with little hair cut off a long line for him and he said that you are a tiny green man.
You mean 40 minutes of build up then 5 minutes of waving a magic wand leaving you feeling dissapointed? If thats your idea of best then whatever, im guessing thats because you grew up with him as he degenerated as a character into screaming monologues about unfair life, how dark he is so often.
I prefer Matt Smith, the 3rd doctor and Tom Baker.
0:19 We don't want you to go either, David. You were the best out of all of them and you have left a huge mark in the Doctor Who franchise
Cried so much when David left he will always be my number one, ever since he left I've never really been able to fully get back into Doctor Who, he's ruined me for other Doctors now.
He actually was added back in one of the episodes
Rihanna And Little Mix I feel the same
Honestly same. Watching the show is not the same without David 💔
Agreed
I agree
Does anyone else remember seeing this live at like 10 years old, and feeling like a huge part of their life just ended?
@Luke Starkiller Eccleston was my first so I knew Tennant was coming to an end too lol it destroyed me
yes, i did
10th doctor: The one who regrets
11th doctor: The one who forgets
well played, you are a whovian
I literally started clapping for this comment.
I loved the part from the latest episode with John hurt when rose/badwolf said that it was touching
*****
I find it weird that a Timelord would refer to a "god".
Through the ENTIRE series as him being the doctor his catch phrase was "Allons-y!" which means Lets go in french, him saying "I don't want to go" was possible the most heart breaking thing a doctor has said, except, of course, matt smith.
... lol, he tought he was going to die... He needed to die, and last thing we know, it's Matt Smith.
I love how he checks his body after every regeneration!!
"I'm a _girl_ !"
I LOVE THIS DOCTOR
Reason why this is my favorite regeneration scene. It went from very sad and making every Whovian cry to very hilarious and making them laugh the next second
He could have done so much more. SO MUCH MOREEE!!! AND IT'S NOT FAIRRRRRRR!!!
***** Someone didn't eat their cheerios this morning.
He did do SO MUCH MORE!!!!!! As 11 and 12.
***** NO! DON'T DO DIS
***** NUUUUUU
***** But it's the different personalities that makes it upsetting. If you really like how one Doctor acts, or things he does or says, it is all gone. I still love them all though, I think Capaldi is doing a fantastic job.
Who else cried when he says "I don't wanna go"
right here
Yep and im a guy I cried with a snotty nose that's how much I cried
Yup ;-;
not me
i watched this episode for the first time the other day the tenth doctor is my favorite so far and i think always will be so I've found myself becoming quite emotional the past few days helP
No, the final line of Tennant is not out of the character, 10th was afraid to died and he show it in The End of Time.
Nep, that's exactly my thoughts.
0:25 "Oh no! I'm gonna miss David! I don't care who the next guy is! I refuse to like him! No matter what, nothing he can d-"
1:15 "...Okay I love this guy."
Another theory that abounded was that 10 was afraid his next regeneration might be the Valeyard, a combination of all the Doctor's darker aspects and worst instincts.
I cried so badly at this moment! It was SO beautiful! And then Matt Smith cheered me up with his humor. :3
Roses are red

All the nerds cry, when they hear...

Mr. Stark
Ultra Nerd GERONIMOOOO!

I DON'T WANT TO GO
Guess I’m a nerd then.
Best regeneration ever, David Tennant and Matt Smith always have been and always will be my favourite doctors.
Rest in peace John Hurt 😔
At first, I was mildly disappointed with his regeneration. I think it was mostly because he was sad..but I realize it better now.
Firstly, he didn't have a very long life span, compared to the other Doctors. *Only a few years.*
Secondly, I witnessed him growing so much more attached to humans as the Tenth more than ever.
Now this regeneration means a lot more to me. I didn't want him to go, either.
For one he had the second or now maybe 3rd longest life span maybe count from 5 to 10
nah, he's talking about the second version of the 10th Doctor, who was only around for like 5 episodes. It was technically a different regeneration
But really, only one who lived less was maybe ninth, Doctor was 900 years as 9, and 10 was 906 when died. Compare this to hundreds as 11 and 12.
(9th said he is 900 and 10th 903)
poor David Tennant he didn't want to go ;(
David and Math are BEST DOCTORS TO ME
Science is on my list as well.

I hate the math doctor!
KindJordanC
still he is the BEST ! ^^
ShadowKiller90 You're right math doctors are the fun for learning how to do math, but why a math doctor? I like medical and scientist doctors... math doctors always know what the answer is to my math test, stupid math doctors.
0:24 as soon as that music began to kick in the show for a lot of people would never be the same again
Talk about it ^_^

+HoursofMovies who are you speaking to
+Ewan Rae OJPArtist
Tennant is now the KING of regenerations.
The Doctor: "I don't wanna go."
Me: *heart breaks*
I KNOW WHY WOULD YOU LEAVE US DOCTOR
You know, the thing that makes those final words so much more sad is the fact that. David used ''Allons-y'' as his catch phrase, meaning ''Let's go'' in french, but when he did actually start to go.. He didn't want to.
Ikr
Same :(((((
i LOVE matt smith but let's face it TENNANT WILL ALWAYS BE THE ONE. THE BEST DOCTOR EVER!
Matt smith is the best Doctor ever you IDIOT.
+backtothefutureman1 no
Does it really matter? They're both awesome.
+MajorLeagueGamer838 Capaldi for prime minister
+dimitrulii Matt Is 3rd, Baker is 2nd, And Tennant Is First.
When David Tennent left I cried. I will never be the same without my David Tennent
I just started watching doctor who and i got to matt recently and i won't deny i cried for two days. 😢
I have a plan, just wait. Tennant might just return to Doctor Who someday, and still as the Doctor.
@@commenterjosh2428 someone pick up that tardis phone because you called it
What started as a sad scene quickly turned into one of smiles as we realized just how awesome Matt Smith was going to be even though we were sad to see David Tennent leave.
three and a half years later, still crying...
6 years later you mean. Unless u mean when the video was uploaded
+OllyBongo47 - Gaming Videos Probably from when he first saw the episode
*_David Tennant was and always will be my favourite Doctor...I'm so glad we get to see him later on in the series again in 'Day Of The Doctor', and I can't wait to see David and Matt in the 60th Anniversary in 2023!!!_*
David (Ten)nant
SecretBlue 02 david was amazing tho
iTactician HOLY CRABS
iTactician ma11 smith
iTactician um ya....
Aah
And thus began my favourite Doctor's run.
I love David Tennant, but I LOVE Matt Smith!
Honestly, who can blame you? To me, David Tennant is great, definitely a popular doctor for a reason. But David's portrayal is literally how I imagined the doctor to look and sound like.
Clearly Tom Holland was inspired by this.
Stephen Taylor definitely
He stated in an interview that it was a homage to this.
Predaking4ever which one
Predaking4ever which one was it?
Predaking4ever Which One?
This regeneration made a mess to the tardis. Next regeneration destroyed a dalek fleet. Last regeneration will destroy the universe I think.
+kubek
"Last regeneration"
1.He has 11 more.
2. The reason why 10th's was violent was because he hold it back to say goodbye to his friends and for 11th because it was a new regeneration cycle.
+Ionut Maris you realise the show won't survive long enough to see 11 more doctors at the rate it's declining
manzilla48 Declining?
"I'm a girl"
o you wait
GripTape very very sadly
Why sadly? I've seen Jodie in Broadchurch and she's pretty good.
TheOneVinylScratch some people like her, some don't.
Kylo Ren I can say what i like thanks. From what I've seen her in, I didn't like her. It's as simple as that. I'm not really looking forward to series 11
Liam Cahill You didn't even see one episode, so please don't say you don't like her if you don't know anything.
1:53
Did anyone else realise that Matt Smith actually spits onto the console because he got debris in his mouth?
I noticed that he spit. But Debris? Like what the hell.
@@bal_rad-dar Well, what would you expect, with all of those TARDIS pieces flying about? I doubt that he would just randomly spit for no reason
@@bal_rad-dar though the actor didn't confirm this, it's said that it's a high chance that's the reason he spits in that scene. As that part was not in the script
And seconds before he does spit you can see pieces of the Tardis falling right above him

He says so in The End of Time.
In about 1100 years he would become one
Only two more regenerations
I never noticed this but at 1:54 Matt Smith spits.
Some plaster flew in his mouth, and it made it through editing some how.
+Richard Smith probably because they filmed this all in one take & it makes it look more like he's actually crashing & everything is blowing
I always thought it was him intentionally being silly in trying to put the fire out.
rafterscott exactly why do you think he does that
i know that but i didn't notice it that much
That spit on the console at 1:52 ... :P
Suprisingly, something from the destroying TARDIS was in his mouth, so he had t'spit it out.
Matt got dust in his mouth from all the debris.
dang it feels good to be a gangster
TheExplodingBacon I think I figured out why when David Tennant doctor regenerate energy was put into his hand (other than poor writing or something) it was because the first episode of David doctor he was still going through his regeneration
Philip Alexander Hassialis oh ya creepy
When he said I don’t wanna go.i felt that in my heart.he meant that for real.
Cried so hard when I watched this. Then I laughed
Madyson Reed well it was said but then i laughed because i thought i would not like matt but he is fabulous

I think it's very difficult to find someone that don't cry to this regeneration.
Personally I didn't. Moreso coz his farewell was dragged on for so long.
