Yes I do wish Jeep would make a new 3.0L Inline Six Twin Turbo Hurricane into a Hybrid, but Jeep has already said they are not doing that. Also he says at 1:02, "This one is very special because it is all electric." No it's a hybrid (gas/electric) but he was driving in electric mode, but the Jeep 4XE is not all electric.
This has far better chops off-road than the mall crawlers currently in Land Rover's lineup, except maybe the unicorn 4-cylinder Discovery that didn't last 2 months of TFL ownership. The secret sauce: rims small enough they can mount off-road tires with actual measurable amounts of sidewall, so it actually works off-road. There's nothing else that can do as many things as well as the Grand Cherokee, and the price is commensurate with that capability. That said, I'm OK with my decision last year to pick up a '18 GC with 30,000 on the clock, just as the used car market started to go nuts. The WL is better for sure, but not double-the-price better.

Haven't checked my official fuel MPG but I wasn't expecting great fuel economy. And I also knew prior to leasing the vehicle that I would likely never charge it (I live in a condo with shared parking). But it's nice knowing that I CAN charge it and that whenever/whereever I charge (no matter how far or near an accessible charging point) it's like a 25-mile "bonus." As you pointed out: you can "save" (i.e. delay) the electric miles and employ them at the time of your choosing. But if you're looking for optimal fuel economy the best advice I can offer is to charge it daily especially if your round-trip commute is 25 miles or less. But otherwise I expect between 21-26 MPG which I think is AWESOME for a 375 HP 470 lb.-ft. torque engine. It is very fast and I am loving the looks of surprise that I get from people in traffic when I open it up and they see that this vehicle may LOOK like a normal SUV but it seems to be packing something special under the hood!! 😂😂🙏🙏🚜🚜
We have a 2021 WK2, and find that it does everything we ask it to, but it it IS wide enough to have its sides scraped on the Sierra Mtn roads we go on, which really makes for touchy off roading. I love the idea of an electric GC, and a plug in hybrid is a nice compromise, but 25 miles of electric range at that price is like they weren't even trying. There's plenty of space for a larger battery, and the tech is available to make it happen.

I have a 2021 trail hawk with the HEMI and I get 22MPG on the highway. Not sure what this 70K hybrid version buys me except an extra 20grand out of my pocket.
he ends up getting 23.2 mpg overall on that short 98 mile trip, well I have a 2018 grand Cherokee with the 5.7 liter Hemi and on the highway on a long trip at 70 to 75 mph I get between 20 to 22 mpg I live in the hills of eastern Kentucky so we have a lot of ups and downs but if I'm on flat roads it's closer to 22. Now stop and go in the city or something is another story if you run it hard it can drink the gas but there still isn't any substitution for a V8
If the electric motor doesn't have the power to maintain a consistent speed, or you're constantly stomping the pedal down, it will cancel all electric mode and put you in hybrid, automatically. It happens to me in my Wrangler 4xe at highway speeds with lots of hills or headwind.
25 miles electric range then over 3 hr recharge… doesn’t impress me! Then 23 mpg highway? My 2018 GC limited got 27 hwy before the lift, then 24mpg with a 2-1/2” lift and 285’s. Keep trying Jeep! By the way, wanted the Trailhawk for the better 4x4 system but didn’t like how rigid it rode at full height. The limited with no air suspension allowed me to do the lift and run the 285’s. Upgraded shock package made it ride like a dream and all for a lot less than $62k. The Quad trac II wasn’t as good as the Trailhawk but I really don’t rock crawl, just Florida/Alabama hunting clubs.
Not sure why he said 3.5 hrs to charge. I have a wrangler rubicon 4xe with the same sized battery and charging at same max rate takes 2.25 hrs from fully depleted (and sometimes less).
@@byronlarson5534 PHEV’s Achilles heal is highway. They do awesome in town and on trails (anywhere with a lot of start/stop), but the extra battery weight makes them get slightly worse than pure gas engines on the highway after the plug-in part of the battery is depleted.
Seeing as you can get a HD truck, or a wrangler 392 for the same price, or that this is significantly more than a Ram Rebel, forget that. It’s priced almost $20k more than it should be for what it is. If that Trailhawk was priced the same as a wrangler rubicon ($45-49k) I’d jump on it in a heartbeat
Not sure your out of touch I think you may just be part of the regular people who think it is ridiculous to spend more on a car then a down payments for a house
Needs to double the range and be cheaper. I looked it up the other day and 85% of Americans have a commute of 50 miles or less (total). So if you get it to where it gives you 50 miles of all electric, the average American could go to work and back 5 days a week and never use a drop of gas. And since it's got a gas engine as back up, the range is there for road trips, even if the extra weight gives you comparatively less highway MPG than an ICE engine. The biggest problem is price. For $70k, you can get a fully loaded Jeep Rubicon or Gladiator. Or a base Wrangler Sport S with $25k in add ons. Make this car $50k and we'll talk. But, that's a criticism of every electric vehicle right now - they're simply too expensive for the average American. A base Tesla Model 3 is nearly $50k after delivery and before potential tax incentives. For a car that would compete with a $25k Ford Fusion if it wasn't all electric. Inflation is 9%. Gas is $4/gallon. Groceries are more expensive than ever. Most people won't choose to spend an extra $20k on an electric vehicle. $20k buys a lot of gas, even at $4/gal.
Keep in mind there is a $7500 federal tax credit, possibly some more from your state. With that in mind, and considering today's car prices, I would be very tempted by this if I needed to replace my Outback right now.
$4 a Gallon? ha ha ha ha ha I'm laughing so hard when Gas is $5.82 USD a Gallon here in Vancouver, BC, Canada today and some days it even goes up past $7.00 USD per gallon and we consider this NORMAL for this area! You guys down there have it CHEAP and GOOD in the U.S. !!! V
@@gogofastful fit and finish, ride quality, build quality, features... without electrification, a model 3 is 100% a $25-30k car. Tesla would LIKE for people to think it's an A4 or A5 competitor, just electrified. The reality is that it isn't.
@@StarGateSG7 oh don't get me wrong, I know we still have some of the cheapest gas in the developed world, it's just that Americans have been used to cheap gas for so long. What's the old saying? Taking away privilege feels like discrimination to those used to privilege? It's kinda like that.
i know this has been a couple of years but does anyone know if a towing break controller can be added to the 4xe. I'm seeing mixed comments online about this due to the regen capability. Most are saying yes but some are saying this is not possible? However, I have been able to find the break controller outlet under the dash so its definitely there.
Real world mpg will vary wildly, because it all depends on how far you live from work. If you live 15 miles from work, you'll only have to go about 5 miles on gas, the other 25 will be all electric. So even at 20 mpg, you'll only burn 1.25 gallons a week on your commute. But if you live 30 miles from work, now you're burning 2.5 gallons a DAY. So the usability of the electric function goes away down.
Surprised he didn’t say anything about it but I believe this is eligible for the 7500 federal tax credit. I got mine on my Wrangler Rubicon 4xe and it made it cheaper than the equivalent gas Rubicon at the time.
23-24 highway mpg is not great for a hybrid. Quite frankly, it isn't great for a turbo 2.0L I4. And this is a ridiculous amount of money. You can get a trailhawk with the V8 hemi in it for less, and I would much rather have that.
My guy, it's a midsize SUV not a Prius. The hybrid part of the system does next to nothing on the highway. Highway MPG is 60% aerodynamics, 20% engine efficiency, and 20% tire tread pattern and size.
@@psychologicaltirefire8190 I have a JL unlimited Wrangler with the 3.6l V6 pentastar and I average almost that on the highway. This Grand Cherokee is way more aerodynamic than my Wrangler, and the engine is new whereas the pentastar has been around for well over a decade. So this Grand Cherokee with a smaller, newer, theoretically more efficient engine, is getting only slightly better mileage than my much less aerodynamic Wrangler.

Is everyone else making 25% more money these days to pay for these things. I didn’t know the average earnings these days was far into the 6 figures.
I have a 2021 trail hawk with the HEMI and I get 22MPG on the highway. Not sure what this 70K hybrid version buys me except an extra 20grand out of my pocket.
What MPG do you get in the city?
@@gabrielmendezjr9620 16 MPG average
he ends up getting 23.2 mpg overall on that short 98 mile trip, well I have a 2018 grand Cherokee with the 5.7 liter Hemi and on the highway on a long trip at 70 to 75 mph I get between 20 to 22 mpg I live in the hills of eastern Kentucky so we have a lot of ups and downs but if I'm on flat roads it's closer to 22.
That 4x4 trail looks to be out of fredericksburg somewhere
I would be interested if they were around like 40 or 45 grande. 60 is just obscene.
it's a beautiful car and a beast off-road, 100k $$$ plus in Australia if 70k in USA, GETTING a bit much.
Thanks again
Maybe I'm out of touch but who are all these people willing to shell out $70k+ for vehicles? Seems like $50k is the new $30k.
Not sure your out of touch I think you may just be part of the regular people who think it is ridiculous to spend more on a car then a down payments for a house
A decent spec f-150 is gonna be about 50k also. Pickups prices are the perfect gauge to see how overpriced everything is now.
@@bradimondi9808 this. I'm a car nut, but the new stuff coming out I just don't see the value in it.
how was this optioned with the panoramic moonroof? don't see that on the website
You guys have REALLY cheap gas! You want expensive? Try gallon of milk for 4 bucks! Butter is over 5 bucks a pound. Bread is $3 to $6 per loaf. You guys down there have it CHEAP and GOOD in the U.S. !!!
V
What Ford fusion can compete with a model 3? Lol
How big of tires can it handle? 33"? 35"?
Why are you not using the off-road cruise control when you’re climbing hills on rocks? Do you not know about it?
I'm curious how the new TH seats are. They don't look anywhere near as nice as the WK2.
1:55 Not a straight six - 2 liter 4 cylinder turbo
i know this has been a couple of years but does anyone know if a towing break controller can be added to the 4xe. I'm seeing mixed comments online about this due to the regen capability. Most are saying yes but some are saying this is not possible? However, I have been able to find the break controller outlet under the dash so its definitely there.
Nice option for a lease but it's a hard sell given that pure electric range will be increasing drastically in the coming years.
How do you know this? Tesla has been out for 8 years or so now and their electric range has only increased by maybe 10-20%.
@@dlakerguy look at what they started at my friend .
Any word on when they plan to release the GC-L 4XE model?
I'm waiting for the real world mpg. It must dazzle me before I would consider paying 70k for a jeep
Frankly, you’re likely better off getting a Grand Cherokee with the V6. It’ll get 25 mpg hwy for the 4X4 model
Absolutely HATE a knob for a shifter.
I can’t wait until this is a full EV. My GCTH was my favorite car I ever owned. I will be coming back one day.
You will hate it, range anxiety for days on these monsters
@@naughtysauce4323 I sold my GC for an EV and I love it. Never have any range anxiety to speak of.
@@riggitywrecked9442 Depends on the EV you got, this thing as an EV will weight nearly 4 tons, I highly doubt your current EV weighs hafl that.
23-24 highway mpg is not great for a hybrid. Quite frankly, it isn't great for a turbo 2.0L I4. And this is a ridiculous amount of money. You can get a trailhawk with the V8 hemi in it for less, and I would much rather have that.
Its a new vehicle it will get better
My guy, it's a midsize SUV not a Prius. The hybrid part of the system does next to nothing on the highway. Highway MPG is 60% aerodynamics, 20% engine efficiency, and 20% tire tread pattern and size.
Yeah it doesn't make a lot of sense. My 2015 Laredo V6 gets 23-24mpg doing 65 on the highway.
If you are just looking at highway mpg than you have no idia what a hybrid plug in is built for.
I think I’m going to just hang on to my 4Runner, like forever.
How much is maintanance to replace that electric motor between the engine and transmission? Probably $7000
It’s NOT 6 is an I4
Where is this trail? I know Texas....but it's very large...
I’d like to know where this is also, maybe enchanted rock?
@@Pineboy104 it's close to that actually, he showed the navigation in the video, Inks Ranch Road and you can see the rock formation that they are driving around. Probably private property and closed off
Love your videos, but you mistakenly called the engine a straight 6, you might want to make a side note or some kind of correction
What is the Max speed in EV mode only?
2.0 straight 4 not 6 ?
Electric cars are a trap until technology progresses dramatically in batteries.
Let's be real here if you want to do rock crawling get a wrangler not this but if you want to do some offroading and be more capable then a standard crossover then this is what you need. But like everyone else is saying not for that price
It is an In line 4 André
Yikes! You can buy a fully loaded Telluride or Palisade for around $55K. Yes, not as off road capable but who is going to take their $70K Grand wheeling?
You just named two complete junk vehicles, GC is so much better!
@@timmikep1978 Junk? Have u owned either of them? I have had a Telluride for 3 years. No issues! Both companies have come a long way in quality and both companies rank up there with Honda and Toyota now. I will buy Korean or Japanese car or SUV over Ford, GM or Dodge. These are junk IMO.

Andre you said straight six lol
Keep it , $92,185 🇨🇦not chance in hell. Good video guys !!
I’m going to pay $70k for a vehicle that gets 23mpg when I paid $30k for my 18 GC limited that gets 21-22mpg highway? It would take me 30 years to see the savings!
😅 2 liter straight six. 1:53
Includes 2 imaginary pistons for even more imaginary torque!😀😀
You mean a 2.L Inline 4 cyl, right?
Is that still that same leather stitched dash that bubbles up?
I think I would be ok with just getting this vehicle a yr old at about $20k less. Just looking over some now and thats what I see with still good low milage. This is my pick, I mean you are still paying about $1k payment.
At 1:55 you say 2.0 liter straight six. Check your self against the EPA sticker. You're better than this, Andre.
For 70k you can get a hellcat. Holy moly everything is getting expensive.
Yep, to be fair cost to build is probably higher on this than a hellcat.
"straight 6"
Right afterwards shows it's a V4
Andre, You need to learn to STOP going on and off the throttle so much. As soon as you start to crawl an obstacle you stop. So frustrating!! Where is Tommy for these reviews!
I find a lot of Andre's video's rather boring ... he also seems always stressed out when he does this type of review... like catastrophic damage is imminent.

$70k is all anyone needs to know. What a joke.
I wanna see TFL buy and modify the upcoming Jeep Grand Wagoneer Long-Edition (the one with the extra foot of length and the super-duper LUX and Towing packages) with a 4-to-6 inch lift and 37 inch tires (Goodyear M/T Territories/Duratracs or Nitto EXO Grapplers) and see how it performs OFF-ROAD in 4x4 modes!
Now THAT would be an awesome off-road test!

I hope they've fixed the air suspension problems with the compressor freezing up
Compare this to rav4 prime
That Rav4 isn’t in the same league as this Jeep😅
Really shows a lack of forethought by whatever foreign company owns jeep these days (yes. I know it’s stelantis). The price could possibly be rationalized if the range and/or mpg was impressive whatsoever, but it’s not. At all.
1.- drive shaft goes through oil pan.... Nice job, Italian designers! Would anyone buy this machine after 3-years lease?
2.- 70k$ - price difference between this and regular 3.6L V6 would buy gas for 3-4 years at current gas prices.
3.- I have second Jeep GC already in 5 years. Both are 100% solid mechanically, and both had serious electric-related problems.
I would think twice on purchasing electric Jeep.
As usual, good review, thank you TFL.
70 grand for a vehicle that’ll be a broken down mess due to all the extra crap under the hood. Sounds like we will be seeing many people upside down in car payments due to these outrageous prices.
Great job Andre, but at 22mpg & $ 60,000 that's a no thanks plus with him saying that the drive shaft going through the oil pan that's major trouble waiting to happen. But that's why I like watching TFL they show us pretty much everything.
And I don't like where all new cars are going with all the electronics and electric stuff. If you want long jevity keep it simple it's alot less stuff to go wrong.
