  • Let's talk about my mama morning basket! Not all of my reading takes place in the morning, but homeschool mom mother culture gets sprinkled throughout my day. I'm sharing what I'm reading as a homeschooling mom and how I fit it all into my day. Raising readers is important to me, so it's important I model a love of reading to my children. I believe it's also important to be rooted in the Word, to always be learning, and to, quite frankly, read for enjoyment and pleasure. Carving out the time for these things definitely enriches my life as a homeschool mom! (And definitely has shaped me as a Charlotte Mason mom.) How do you approach mother culture or a mother's morning basket? I hope this gave you some mama morning basket ideas!

I like the “What I’m Reading” video. I always like getting good ideas for all the genres…Bible resources, Non-fiction, Homeschool etc. 😊

I love the Bible studies from The Daily Grace Co!

I love kindles too, but I have to give one word of caution. When The Powers-That-should-Not-Be decide to change/edit a book, if your device gets connected to the internet, the changes will download on your previously-purchased books automatically, I am collecting as many used books as I can to create a monster library of actual books.

Yes!! Amazon will flat out pull purchased content off your devices, it’s digital book burning.

@@vickih5405 That’s awful! I remember when I was so excited to save space and have so many digital books, then all this nonsense started and I realized I was going to have to own the physical book anyway.

I use The Bible Recap to read through the Bible chronologically. It takes a little more than a year but I love that she has a podcast to go with each reading and the podcast talks about what happened in the reading and what it teaches about God's character.

I love reading and have always been a voracious reader; I’m definitely trying to model that for our daughter. We’re in a season of littles so it’s been difficult for me to make time for myself. I am also NOT an early riser 😅😂.
Trying to read the Bible in a year but I’ve made peace with it if it takes me a bit longer. I found this bible reading plan called “Tear up your bible”… and I’m enjoying it. I’m also using a highlighting system for deeper study inspired by My Abiding Journal on YT.
Love historical fiction, but went out of my comfort zone recently and read a sci-fi book that I loved called The Last Cuentista; it surprised me in a good way. It touched on how our stories are tied to our cultures and identity. I think it’s meant for young adult/teen readers but I love an easy read sometimes. Especially at night when I feel like I can’t think. 🙃

Definitely need an easy read every now and then! It helps me get back in a rhythm if I’m coming out of a reading rut. I haven’t done much sci-fi at all, so maybe that’s something to think about to get me out of my comfort zone again.

I’ve read M is for Mama, The Modern Miss Mason, and The Midnight Library all on audiobook (although I have the first two in hard copy as well). All three were FANTASTIC! I loved them! I have four kiddos (10,8,5,2) so I do a lot of audiobooks right now for this season of life but I love having a hard copy in hand. I’m currently listening to Less is More (I’m not a minimalist but I would like to decluttering our home), Viola Davis’ autobiography “Finding Me”, and Beneath the Scarlet Sky (historical fiction). The kids and I are going through Not Consumed’s study on Obedience and we are really enjoying it.
I got a couple get ideas for me next reads from your video. Thanks so much and happy reading!

Always excited to see a video from you, but extra excited when it’s book recommendations! Jen Wilkin is a favourite author of mine. I find her writing concise, clear, but packed with rich theology. I would recommend any of her book. Our women’s ministry has been working through some of her Bible Studies which are excellent. She does a great job equipping readers with great study tools. I love that you’re tackling Grudem’s Systematic Theology. Good for you! I appreciate the homeschool books suggestions too. I am just at the beginning of my homeschool journey and I find myself drawn to Charlotte Mason so I am eager to pick up Modern Miss Mason! Thanks for sharing.

Thank you for the encouragement! Definitely give Modern Miss Mason a read or listen! It makes the CM approach feel so accessible in a modern world.
I definitely hope to do one of Jen Wilkin's studies! I thoroughly enjoyed her book and completely agree with everything you said!

Sadly I have seen Jen Wilkin go off track. You can find the clip of her using a women's period to explain why we as women have an ability to see the crusifiction in a different light. 😣

I love this! I’ve been doing a morning basket for myself for over a year. It is one of my favourite times of the day. I have a list of topics that I also work through, not doing every single thing every day, and of course some days I read longer than others. This is my list and some of the things I’ve been enjoying:
    Bible
Prayer books (ones by Stormie Omartian)
    Devotional (Mom Heart Moments)
Journals (one for work, gratitude, prayer, and another for jotting down memories)
    Planner
    Parenting
    Homeschooling
Book club - I do a weekly book club, so the book of choice is always in my basket.
Novel (The Masterpiece by Francine Rivers)
Personal Growth - usually about homemaking, wife/Godly womanhood, working (right now I’m going through Disciplines of a Godly Woman and The Life Giving Home
Life Skill - always wanting to learn more, right now I’m trying to learn how to sew
    Historical/Biography (Yours Til Heaven)
Husband’s Interest - I like to try to read something he likes as well, it always leads to good discussion (Kings & Queens)
And finally, Children’s Interest - my oldest daughter is reading on her own, my other 2 are still learning to read. She reads large chapter books so I try to read things she has an interest in. (Right now, she and I are going through Discipline by Elisabeth Elliot and I’m about to start the Wingfeather series because that is her latest library find.)

Love all of this so much! My husband and I often read the same book so we can talk about it or listen to an audiobook together. I love our discussions about books! We ended up listening to Outdoor Kids in an Indoor World together on our road trip and listened to The Swiss Family Robinson with our kids.

Love this video so much! ❤ Enjoyed seeing what you're reading. A new resource I'm loving is the NKJV Cultural Background Study Bible. It's bringing a new awareness, depth of understanding, and richness to my Bible time. I've also LOVED the book Becoming Mom Strong, and am working through Summit Ministries Understanding the Faith, Understanding the Times, and Understanding the Culture....very deep, but very good. Having great discussions with my high schoolers as we read. ❤

I’m learning all about CM right now. I want to read, “Becoming Mrs. Lewis”. I think maybe that was a recommendation from you possibly?

My Bible study is lacking I do one at church with a group of moms. I am working through The Bible Recap but I am not good at it. I have been more consistent with Cultivate The Fruit of the Spirit Write the Word Journal I will maybe do Faith and Contentment next. I use New King James that is my preference. I am listening to Modern Miss Mason on Audio through my library also I am just starting.
