    kind of a let down here - we really never get your opinion on the best bermuda, you sweeten the idea by letting us know there is no irrigation and so germination will depend on mother nature and your hose, and then the video ends. NO link to a follow up video where you show us the best grass? Plus, I looked through all your other videos to see if you posted a follow up - bunch of grabby titles and photos - but no content that I was looking for. What gives here doc?

    Hey Doc! I am growing my second BlackJack Bermuda lawn! It is a great cultivar and underrated! It stripes well and grows very dense. It definitely holds that dark green color and can stand up next to the TTTF yards! Super Juice will hit the newly seeded lawn for the first time Monday as a follow up to Prodiamine and Ortho w/ quinclorac. Glad to provide any data you’d like along the way...

    Anderson products are great. I used the Humic/Gypsum on my Bermuda and it looks the best I've seen it in a few years. Granted it rained a bunch this year in So Cal and I also used liquid fertilizer and aerated the lawn in conjunction with the Anderson Humid/Gypsum. And that's after I sprayed Roudup on the fescue and other grasses that had invaded the Bermuda. The Bermuda was in dormancy but it sure did not look well until April and now it looks fantastic.

    I’ll vouch for blackjack. It’s crazy. I have pictures from the day I planted, May 4th till now. I’ve already cut once and about 90% filled in. Probably mow again later today or tomorrow. Less than a month and looking good.

    Hi Doc, did you ever do a second or third follow up video to this one showing the results of you various Bermuda seed tests? I'm considering starting over and seeding my yard with Bermuda. I live in NC and common Bermuda has all but taken over my yard. I'm sick and tired of fighting this stuff and I'm obsessed with a beautiful yard. I'm particularly curious of how the blackjack worked out.

    What's up Doc, what do you think is the best shade tolerant Bermuda seed?

  • @mickyunit
    @mickyunit 5 років тому

    I almost bought the blackjack a couple months ago, for the shaded dirt under my 2 huge oaks. HOA sent a "friendly reminder" that I have dirt in the front yard 🙄. I broke down and had the front third of my yard sodded with zoysia, to keep them off my butt👿. So bummed the Bermuda sod couldn't regrow there. Having great restoration in the back and side yards though. I also decided to put a shade garden through the rest of the front yard. That dirt in the shade garden is so dark and rich from all the humic and gypsum I treated with last year!! Hostas, hydrangeas and ferns are going to look great when they mature.😏

How can I get my bermuda lawn to fill in? Not sure if I should seed, rehab, or just till it up and resod. i've got Humic DG and Superjuice already.

  • @dubbya57

    Love your video's but...as a beginner, I would love a step by step, 1,2,3...of how to get a beautiful lawn from scratch. Maybe on your website. I inherited a sick Bermuda lawn ( Nth TX) that was choked by.... dry, cracked clay...very little top soil, bluegrass, winter rye, ( it looked like a fairway when we bought it in March 2019)crabgrass and worst of all, dallisgrass. I'm removing the dallisgrass by hand [with "roundup"]. The bare spots after removing other weeds. I put down a 50/50 mix of Black kow soil with sand. Then added some Bermuda seed from HD. (before i saw this video). Had to put down plastic garden fencing because the "neighborhood" cats thought I built them a litter box and they were digging up my new seeds. Anyway back to the point of a newbie, I just heard you say , we should back off on new sod/seedlings as far as products other than water. I've been lightly watering twice a day and now I have green peach fuzz. ( on the lawn not me ). What is the time table for something like Super Juice?

    Nice show today Doc.
    I’m looking forward to seeing the results from your Black Jack section. You might consider the use of a traveling sprinkler for the other side of the street since you’re watering it anyway. Also two pulsating sprinklers in a series might be a much more cost effective way to do it. Either would also be a good idea for Barb’s property.

      Just some 10-10-10 then follow watering as they say. That's a key. Watering is the #1 issue with new sod. Then once roots grab light super juice every 2 weeks. Not much to do the first year.

      Have had several people praise the black jack... but no first hand comments on the monaco. Not a big help on that subject. Maybe just do a little more online reading and if all fails go with what is known.

    Everything I’ve read on seeding bermuda, it requires 1/4” of dirt/soil over it in order for it to germinate.....
    Sadly, the spreader I had like yours, is no more. I believe it ended up 2 counties over from where it was stored in the hangar:

    Why on earth would you seed Bermuda? Here we spray every inch of it.

    i hate Bermuda grass (wire grass). Every time I see it I tear it out. Hard to get rid of that stuff.
