Doc discusses mixing grass seeds on lawns. Many cool season brands sold are actually a mix of seeds, but when can you mix varieties of warm season grasses. Doc explains that there really should be a purpose for it and the grass seeds chosen should work well together.
I used to have carpet grass at my other house but I spent so many hours a week to keep it looking beautiful. Most have no idea what it takes to make and maintain a beautiful lawn.
I have areas of grass now that take about five minutes to mow each just because I wanted something to walk barefoot on but mostly I have terraced patio areas and container gardens with seating areas. It’s much easier to maintain and I’m growing all of this great food…..

Doc, you are one lucky man. Of course I do know that luck is 99% perspiration 1% inspiration and not just pure luck. So congratulations on all your hard work and life which has led you to this point. I have always enjoyed your post or videos. But this is the first time I saw your farm. Simply amazing. I hope you don't mind, but I posted your UA-cam channel on our HOA newsletter. A good number of people here have Bermuda grass. They are small lawns, but that's what Vegas is about. Some of them are even starting to carpet their front yard and backyard. Yikes. I’ve got primarily a Bermuda based lawn but have added drought resistant Bluegrass and Zoysia in order to minimize dormancy and expand the peak periods of each variety’s growing season.

Install Bermuda down by the lake and make another putting green on part of it since you’re going to have the equipment next week. You can flatten out a spot, I really like those videos from the old house.
Best video this year! I gave up trying to control common bermuda in my zenith zoysia lawn with fusillade a few weeks ago. Other than the different seed heads and the ability to hold dew, both look nearly identical. My zenith also gets bare patches out of dormancy and is so slow to grow in. Common bermuda will take care of that for me. I over-seeded with more Zenith and its doing good, but common bermuda will really help out with the bare areas that are in full sun.
Also, where did you purchase your common Bermuda seed? I was just going to look online for a high quality brand that has low weed and inert matter.
Working on a small renovation of my mom's lawn, going to mix RPR and RTF seeds. If this works I'm probably going to use the mix on my property in Alaska next spring
And by the way, you're doing a really good work on there.

I'm in North Carolina, and we got the same amount of rain. So, Crazy. seven days of lots of bermuda to try to cut as well.

I use dirt booster to make compost out of yard scraps like grass clippings.
Of course I put it on the lawn and in the garden.
We got around 2.5" here in Clover SC last week

I have Bermuda now, but over it. What can I over seed it with?
I have a 1000 sq ft side plot that I have resurrected pretty well, but it's still got the lime green wide blade tall fescue mixed it just about everywhere thanks to the gas company line work before we moved in. I tried hand picking some of it last week, but I have better things to do. Not sure if I should spot kill anything I don't like, get it prepped over July and August, then PGR it before doing an overseed, or otherwise just kill it off for a complete redo like my 3000 sq ft main front (which looks 👌).
What about mixing perennial rye and tall fescue??

I made the mistake of throwing in some Arden 15 into my Bimini and it's very noticable to me. To someone that doesn't know what they're looking at it might pass the sniff test but I regret it. Thankfully it doesn't respond well to 2-4D so it's just a matter of time until I have it all gone.
I have a hybrid bermuda sod lawn, but have places where the house causes enough shade that the grass won’t grow well. You mentioned you mixed a grass for that reason, but didn’t mention which grass. What should I use>

I have a centipede front lawn an then had a pool put in the back an had a full dirt middle to my side yard, and the outer perimeter of the side yard is centipede. We where clueless an ordered Bermuda grass sod an filled the middle dirt path with that and then realized it didn’t match. My question is can I lay down centipede an Bermuda seed an water a lot , will it blend?

Hey Doc, I have about 400 sq ft. In my front yard, that is burmuda sod from 10 years ago. It is partially shaded. I would like to reseed. What type of burmuda seed do you recommend? Would you advise mixing with zoysia seed because of the shade? If so, what type of zoysia? Will this look stupid, or will those grasses look similar.
At 8:55 you say you aren't going to put a Bermuda in a shady area, so find a grass that looks similar to it that does well in a shady area. That's what I'm looking at in my yard. Bermuda thrives in the sun but on the edges it's struggling. What looks similar that does well in the shade with only 3 hours of direct sun in the morning?

What would you suggest i do to fix my mix of common bermuda and hybrid? I didnt know any better about grass when i bought this house a year ago which was full of weeds on the front yard. I put down common bermuda seeds, again, not knowing any better, now i have a mixture of both types. The grass itsenf looks good but want to know how can i get it even. About 60 percent is now the common type. Thsnks
Doc I need help. I live in Southeast TN, heavily tree land. The brumda grass in the open areas is doing well. The edges that don't get enough sun is struggling. Look at over seeding with fescue. Any thoughts. Or is there a better solution

Hey Doc! I have a large section of my lawn where I took down trees and now its bare dirt and weeds but the lawn in front of it is a bermuda sod. I'd like to convert this dirt patch to a bermuda like the rest of the lawn. Would you suggest picking up a hybrid seed or planting runners and being patient? The empty patch is maybe 1500 sq ft. Thanks!!

Did you put out Bermuda seeds yet? How did it do over the rye?
Yes I did it is growing good some places faster then others and rye is still alive but in sure it will die soon getting in the 90s already so I’m sure it will come out a lot faster as that dies off

Put in a micro hydro electric for that pond overflow tube :) generate some nice clean free electricity

About those darn raccoons. If you would just learn how good they taste you would have yourself set up for life. A little bit like dark meat chicken but a little bit greasier. Still pretty darn good. Try it. You might like it. Especially if they are turkey fed! I've never had myself any turkey fed raccoon.
Wow that bluegill was huge. Last time I caught myself a bluegill I was knee high to a grasshopper. Living in California and got chased away from the pond on the country club and just up the ways from my parents place. I do miss that. You have a beautiful place there. The deer are gorgeous. You are definitely blessed.
Your place is simply amazing. And you are extremely lucky to have that fresh corn. It's been years since I've had fresh corn. In fact over 50. I live in Las Vegas now. The closest thing we have to fresh corn is the beautiful sign in the grocery store. And it probably tastes better than the corn we get.

Get a better job, set some goals, do better. It’s not that expensive
