When a child is provided real, whole foods unadulterated with sugar, poor quality fats, toxic additives, and food dyes, their body knows exactly what to eat and how much. They will eat just what their growing body needs when provided this high quality diet that their DNA evolved from. What I have come to realize as a parent is that there is a great deal of letting go and going with the flow. I have also learned that, as a parent, what you eat, how you eat, and why you eat what you do is really important because our children are keen observers who absorb everything we do.
In today’s episode of my series I’m calling Health Bites, I share the top tips and wisdom I have gained from my experience as a doctor and dad for raising healthy eaters.

I worked with kids for 30 years and tried to grow something with each class. While every child did not eat everything, it is amazing how they try things they had never had and would really like it. I had one little boy that was three and cried when we didn’t have anymore broccoli. And it was just raw broccoli with nothing on it. He had help pick it and was so excited that he could pick something and actually go eat it. You don’t have to have a big garden to grow things we grew carrots, beans broccoli lettuce sweet potatoes, spices, and much more all in pots. And mushrooms are so fast to grow you can see the changes in them each day.

Every child should plant a tree, bush, flowers or vegetables with a parent or teacher.
It will help connect them to nature and the environment.

Thanks Dr. Hyman for putting out another informative a common sense video, I strongly feel that our holidays starting from Halloween must be not be associated with candy or sweets and why can’t this holiday be celebrated without the candies. I remember a time when my kids were growing up I was only serving sliced Apples and Pears at Halloween and guess what there weren’t many kids those who ate that therefore nutritional education must start at home, moreover just look at the junk they are serving at school lunch programs.

Wow, you just spoke about fun foods, My aunt & I were making a box of Mac & Cheese... but when adding peppers, the top fell off, & spilled a lot into the dish. We fixed the top. & decided to try it, & it was fine, but now, I need to add extra pepper if I have Mac & Cheese... That woops was a really good thing. I also like curry powder in my eggs :-)

Great job. Most doctors should tell you this but, where do we rank? In 2021, we ranked 37th. I like the study from 2017. Do you know where we came in? Look it up. It's shocking. Great job again and they've known the benefits of stem cells since 1987 and we're still testing, which is odd to me.

My 2nd wife knows me as a non-picky eater. When I was young, mom would fix a meal, & if I didn't like it, she would put it away until I did like it, & after a while, I could eat whatever she presented. Over the years, there are things I do not consider as food, Chicken feet, Sea Cumber - not a plant - eel, milk, baloot spelling? I have not been all over the globe, so, there may be bugs & things ppl eat that I would not, but I don't consider myself as picky... my wife - #2 - was surprised & usually have a fried egg sandwich for breakfast, every day... after years - decades actually - she asked why... I like it, now, thinking about what I may have takes more time & effort than making the same thing I liked. Today, I was so wrapped up in that, I forgot to make lunch, so I had to buy that. Why mess with perfection?

Dr with having some of your guests on board I’m not sure how much protein I’m supposed to be eating. What is a good hard fast fast rule of protein. I listen to your podcast with Dr. Lyon, and it seems like we need somewhere around 1 g of protein per pound. Do we get this much protein? How do we get this much protein with all these amino acid profiles?

Students should get a life skills class in grade school and high school.
They need to learn about cooking, gardening and what basic home and auto maintenance entails..
They need to be taught about saving, investing, credit, interest, debt and insurance.
They need to learn about preparing a resume, preparing for a job interview, health insurance, retirement accounts.
They need to learn how to budget and cover monthly expenses like, rent, utilities, phone bills, insurance and repairs.
Young people need to be educated about all these things. They come out of school unprepared for real life.
Both parents and teachers need to do a better job of preparing students for life on their own.

Even children today have signs of artery disease. Fast foods and sugary drinks have long term consequences.
There is an obesity epidemic today where over 60% of the population is overweight or obese.
What is common today and "NORMAL" is not healthy. The average person today is not healthy and is taking medications.
Heart attacks were once only common in people over 65. Today people in their 40 are having heart attacks.
Add more plants and vegetables to your diet and less junk and overly processed foods

While this is the perfect way to raise a child, you have to start with parents who eat healthy and most think they do, but they don't.

1 gram of protein per pound of body weight BUT if you weigh a lot, say 400lbs and you want to reduce weight it should be less. Dr. Mark talks about this in other podcasts. A ratio of protein and good fat.
