    As someone who relies a lot on my bike to get places, I feel like harsh winter weather is very much "hard mode" for both rider and gear. Looking forward to see what that means for preparing your EUC, cause I always imagined they are just not usable when ice and snow start to appear.

    Silk base layers are wonderful in the snow. Silk breathes well, drys fast and doesn't stink like synthetics.

      @@greenwave819 Silk base layer should cost no more than $30 for both top and bottom... and 1 pair lasts 4-5 years so it's frugal- not a luxury. Seriously, I live below the poverty line and cheap out on used gear exclusively but if you want to ride in the Alpine zone, silk is worth every penny.

    I get gear with a high % of Merino wool. It keeps you warm, breathable, thin and dries quickly, but it does cost a little more.

    The best base layer I’ve found, )))my opinion((( and I work in north western Alaska-(67°34'39.8"N 164°03'25.1"W)with some frequency is a merino wool blend. It insulates like a champ and when you sweat it still keeps you warm even when it’s damp and doesn’t get stinky due to the natural properties of wool. It isn’t cheap BUT, the added expense is worth it to me.
    Great Video monocat!

    As a fellow glasses user I feel that struggle 😭. I usually ride with my visor cracked so it still protects my face from the majority of the wind but doesn't allow it the visor to fog up but when I stop or slow down I subconsciously hold my breath to keep my glasses from fogging up while I pull up the visor cause it takes forever for it to to go away

    • @monocat.1011
      @monocat.1011  Рік тому

      I thought I wasn’t the only one to do this😅 I also often ride with a slightly cracked open visor for that reason. I wish there would be better solutions for this!

    @monocat. I've been hesistant to ride an EUC in winter especially when snow comes in, just the fear of sliding because of frosted snow and etc. Do you need to have a specialized wheel in place with spikes on them to get more grip on the slippery snow?

    • @JeskaRain
      @JeskaRain Рік тому +3

      You need a knobby and studs and you're pretty much immune to anything winter can throw at you except maybe a good height of fluffy snow. You should also run lower PSI than usual like around 25-28 and set your wheel to the softest mode you can to avoid wheel freespins and traction loss.

    • @MrSpeedyduck
      @MrSpeedyduck Рік тому +1

      @@JeskaRain Thank you for the informative feedback. Yeah, when winter comes out here, its kinda dangerous cause we're prone to rain showers and abrupt cold temperatures, this causes water to freeze over fast and hardens quickly, making it so slippery even on my slowest run I get freespins and complete loss of traction, making riding very awkward and always on a defensive driving. Soft snow is fine, but ours its just a slip hazard. I never tried installing spiked wheels before, but I'll give it a go. Thank you again Zera! Cheers!

    • @Tennouseijin
      @Tennouseijin Рік тому +1

      Also, I'd take extra caution to waterproof the wheel as much as possible, since riding in snow is probably even more likely to cause water ingress than riding in rain. And if they use salt in your area, well, it's probably a good idea to wash it off after a ride, just in case.

  • @Roskellan
    @Roskellan Рік тому

    When you go out, summer, winter, night, day, in rain or in sunshine your image will be of no concern to you at all, obviously. RIGHT!!! That's not the case is it?..... OK my point, matt black may be a very cool image but it's not a particularly safe one. Covered in lights, RGB, reflectors and everything in bright luminous colours might not be very cool (maybe it is), but it is safe. Keep that in mind when you are buying anything to wear on an EUC, and if you can, be a bit more flamboyant in your style, it might save your neck one day :-)

    • @monocat.1011
      @monocat.1011  Рік тому +2

      My pedals are the same, just my power pads are set up a little asymmetrical, since I tend to accelerate with my right foot a little more but therefore break with my left foot more 😅

    1:14 That helmet is too large for your head size. You shouldn't be able to move it that easily around your head and face -- there's even a visible gap. It has to fit snug, particularly when new, or it will easily move around your head or even come off in case of an accident. Harder to see about the TSG helmet but it seems a bit too large as well.

    • @monocat.1011
      @monocat.1011  Рік тому +2

      You are correct, my „summer“ helmet is definitely to large at this point. When I purchased it, it was fitting snug but over time the padding got flatten out. I’ll not be using it going forward :)
      The TSG fits snug as long as I wear a balaclava underneath it. I’d like to have a smaller size, but I already got the smallest one available 😅

    It's bad for thr battery, dangerous because of the rain and snow and also very cold since you don't even movie at all for long period of time.

      This depends where you living (Vancouver has mostly mild winters) but I definitely agree with you, that if the conditions seem to be too extreme it’s better to stay home or take alternative means of transportation! I’ll talk about this point in my next two videos more in-depth :)
