No Mercy is of the best introductions to a game I have exprienced. I remember watching the intro alone over and over for how cool it was, introducing the atmosphere and game mechanics.
Left 4 Dead 1's intro cutscene, and by extension No Mercy, is by far the best introduction to any game I've ever seen. Tells you everything you need to know about the universe, the characters, enemy types, and game mechanics. It's a masterclass in "Show, don't tell."
Crash Course was meant to be part of the No Mercy campaign but they cut it out and made it into its own campaign because they felt it lessened the No Mercy finale and would have been too long. I think that explains why the dialogue got cut from the chopper pilot as well. I wonder if we would have seen the crash happen if it was never cut.
I think Gaben or someone within the writing team wanted to have a cutscene for every start of the campaign, and the voice lines for the chopper pilot was intended for such
@@ImNotConz Not only that, Dennis Bateman also gave us the muffled dialogue of the Pyro. The plane pilot in the Dead Air campaign is portrayed by Gary Schwartz, the voice of the Demoman and the Heavy.
The nostalgia I felt from watching this video, back where it all began. Thank you for covering these maps! It's made me really reflect more on the story and theories and appreciate the game more, I was just a kid with no care for the plot when these games came out.
If I remember correctly, there was a scrapped event for No Mercy where the pilot would actually abandon you if you dont make it on time or hold out too long, In one of the dialogs the pilot would say that he can't hold out for much longer and especially with tanks swarming in theres an instict where he would actually abandon any or all survivor's leaving to an instant game over. Not sure if this is actually true tho and mightve actually been a scrapped concept. In the community mods there was also another instict where the pilot would also do a roof side pickup instead as either a alternative emergency landing or a 2nd chance at escaping meaning youd have to run to the other side of the roof again.
Update: the pilot would actually do a roof side pickup if you dont Kill the tank within the 5 minites triggering an emergency landing instead of waiting for you to kill the tank.

There is a development commentary in the game with a bunch of different team members explaining why they did or cut certain things. They mentioned that the pilot lines were cut because it came off discouraging for the survivors who actually made it to the end.. to find out they are still in harms way. Thought it was pretty interesting they ended up making it a dlc.

Nothing can compare to the beautiful sky box with the No mercy hospital in the distance and you getting closer and closer to it. From the streets, subways, alleys, sewers, narrow halls, and rooftop. I still like the idea of Bill's flashback probably taking place in Mercy Hospital. It probably didn't happen there at all but just the idea of Bill going back to the place where he made his first massacre in a long time as he got to fight his way out of the zombie infested building, like some "go back and face the past" stuff was going on was oddly poetic to think about. Not to mention it showed my favorite shot of Bill in a hospital gown with blades on his hands as the zombies were now roaming around, one of my favorite shots in artwork I've seen in a while.
The Payday mission reference was recently tackled by L4D's game writer Chet Faliszek on his UA-cam/Tiktok account, because some people were asking him whether or not the mission is tied to the lore.
My favourite quote of Zoey's referencing a horror film is in the safe room of The Sacrifice, Part 3. When she says "I hate putting the lotion in the basket." Classic.
The only cutscene in video game history, that you can realistically do anything what they did in that cutscene. If you see it the cutscene, you can do it in-game.
Watch director's commentary to learn about the pilot. He got bit during a dodgy pick up. And the person he picked up wasn't on the helicopter and probably bit him before he threw him off. Or he didn't pick him up in time and a zombie got on.
They actually made No Mercy canon in Payday 2. The guy who runs your missions for you - Bain - is actually kidnapped and infected with the sample that the gang grab. It's heavily implied it's the green flu, but it's unlikely because an outbreak doesn't happen.
Definitely the Campaign i think of when I hear Left 4 Dead. I still remember jumping onto the Air Unit just so i don't have to walk through the apartment
Something I hope people appreciate about that cutscene that it took me years to even notice is that it actually teaches you how to play the game, what to do for almost every special infected and even hazards like the car alarm. It’s brilliant.
That number 4 reference is clever. Also, I think it would have been better if they included the pilot's deleted voice lines, so more players would have known. Besides, the voice actor was paid to do it, after all.
10:36 If you decided to camp somewhere near the radio, you will hear a voice line from the pilot. He mentions that he had an accident and will be late for 5 minutes.
that kill count line was insanely schizophrenic. Also you completely omitted the achievement feud between dead rising and l4d1 with the z-genocider achievement
Hey buddy. You forget a dialogue that Bill said when in the elevator with the Payday crew that is another easter egg/nod to L4D2. He said something like "Having a $5.000 don't give you the rights to hold the goddamn door?" Thats probably a reference to Nick from L4D2. Also some people theorize that all started in No Mercy and Nick was present/responsible from the spreading of the Green Flu, when trying to obtain samples of the infected people as a corporative spy.
I'm surprised you didn't point out the "and pets" addendum on the CEDA sign. This correlates with the dead cows found on some other maps and supports the idea that the infection can spread to other animals, then to people.
interestingly you know how Louis said in the Sacrifice comics "they're the ones causing the crashes" that's partially true I just played the No Mercy campaign and the helicopter pilot said "Will be running late... had a bit of an incident" meaning he was bitten or got infected meaning the first crash isn't the l4d survivors' fault at first
9:11 this part is sad because "and pets" implies that your dog/cat can get infected with the Green Flu 10:54 - It's both. When the wall graffiti said "3 Days" it was somewhere around the staft of the Green Flu epidemic. The virus would multiply itself inside the body where it can be transmitted through bites and through thw air at the same time, the closer you are to an ifected practically spewing Virus Air all around him would speed up the zombiefication process. The Pilot was bit and would've lasted longer but the four survivors spewed out Virus Air every time they exhaled
Another point you didnt mention, theres an actual boomer corpse in the intro slumped against the wall where Bill inspects the bile. Its a little hidden, but shows the Special Infected were being shot by other survivors, maybe the ones who set up the apartment rooftop camp.
Great video as always 🔥 the only thing I kind of wish was different in this campaign was that I wanted to be like left 4 dead 2 were the survivors don’t know each other or at least have some voice lines of how they met each other. But that’s just my opinion, keep up the great work 🔥🔥🔥
Idk how many people know about this but there is some elevator dialogue that is really goofy. I'm not sure what the trigger is. I was playing on expert and I think my team took no damage during the elevator event. Once you get on the elevator Louis starts going bananas and is screaming about being unstoppable while everyone else is egging him on about it. Its really funny.
The survivors were found to be asymptomatic after being rescued by the military and sent to quarantine to be tested. They then left the facility and went on for another campaigns which leads to The Sacrifice
I'm a firm believer that the survivors arent turning their rescuers. The boat house people from death toll never turned, its unlikely that a married couple are both immune. We hear nothing about the dead air pilot. Vergil is a immune, but his wife only turned after she got bit, she would have turned way earlier considering they were around a lot of survivors. The military wouldnt wait around in the parish for the survivors if they were just going to kill them.

Something I hope people appreciate about that cutscene that it took me years to even notice is that it actually teaches you how to play the game, what to do for almost every special infected and even hazards like the car alarm.
It’s brilliant.
Loving these vids lately keep it up man ❤❤❤
That number 4 reference is clever. Also, I think it would have been better if they included the pilot's deleted voice lines, so more players would have known. Besides, the voice actor was paid to do it, after all.
The No Mercy intro cinematic is one of the greatest of all time. its near flawless.
10:36
If you decided to camp somewhere near the radio, you will hear a voice line from the pilot.
He mentions that he had an accident and will be late for 5 minutes.
I don't know who you are. But i like your L4D videos.
Keep it up!
i was waiting for this one!
L4D1 No mercy is so good since theres alot of areas that is so rememberable like the Subway station.
when in the story there's no mercy, sure i want to watch this.
i found your page today and i gotta say, im addicted
Around 8:30, I would add that since you get off on the 28th floor, that could be a reference to 28 days/weeks later.
my fav is no mercy, even in payday 1/2 , was really good to see it
that kill count line was insanely schizophrenic.
Also you completely omitted the achievement feud between dead rising and l4d1 with the z-genocider achievement
I really like the idea of a dude roaming safe room to safe room just writing bullshit lies for fun
WOOO YEAH THATS WHAY WEVE ALL BEEN WAITING FOR YEAHHHH
Fantastic start for a fantastic game. Just perfect
Oh plz plz plz!! Do dead air next it’s my favorite level!🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
Hey buddy. You forget a dialogue that Bill said when in the elevator with the Payday crew that is another easter egg/nod to L4D2.
He said something like "Having a $5.000 don't give you the rights to hold the goddamn door?"
Thats probably a reference to Nick from L4D2.
Also some people theorize that all started in No Mercy and Nick was present/responsible from the spreading of the Green Flu, when trying to obtain samples of the infected people as a corporative spy.
To me this is THE Left 4 Dead map. I have so many memories with friends and family playing this.
my family hates this game
That scope is amazing
I'm surprised you didn't point out the "and pets" addendum on the CEDA sign. This correlates with the dead cows found on some other maps and supports the idea that the infection can spread to other animals, then to people.
Finally this is here, love this campaign!
keep it going i love your explanation
there's another left 4 dead easter egg in payday. you can find action figures of the special infected in one of the bed rooms on the heist counterfeit
interestingly you know how Louis said in the Sacrifice comics "they're the ones causing the crashes" that's partially true I just played the No Mercy campaign and the helicopter pilot said "Will be running late... had a bit of an incident" meaning he was bitten or got infected meaning the first crash isn't the l4d survivors' fault at first
7:04
That sniper scope mod.. I CANNOT.
TOO FUNNY.
Can't wait for another one I love this stuff
9:11 this part is sad because "and pets" implies that your dog/cat can get infected with the Green Flu
10:54 - It's both.
But that’s just my opinion, keep up the great work 🔥🔥🔥
this will forever be my favorite l4d camping.
These videos are awesome.
oh my god that sniper reticle is cracking me up
Bile in the open: Horde sleep
I little Bile smeared in Francis :Horde triggeres
i've seen your videos, but im leaving ur ass a sub, nice to see someone do that to a 15yo game, something that no one did before
LETSS GOOO NO MERCY (KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK)
Amazinh video Aš Always, could you share the mods ur using? I love the ,,better vanilla" vibe it gives
I do plan on doing that in future videos
Might even do it with this one. I'll update it soon
Damn, after a decade of playing this game, this is the first time i hear the voice of chopper pilot turning into zombie. Thats tragic 😩
I remember playing this when I was like 9 and was so scared to play
