I feel like it really depends on the type of zombie apocalypse, if it’s a L4D style apocalypse literally everyone will die, not even a question. However if it’s a walking dead apocalypse, if you plan for it and either have a group or can move quietly and quickly enough you can probably survive well enough. Some of the survivors in the walking dead prove that you don’t have to be a spec ops soldier to survive

I just want to comment about the detail about the Spitter's acid. Stomach acid doesn't cause immediate damage. Your epithelial layer will last long enough for you to wash it out without issue. The main concern comes from getting it in your eyes, which can cause damage; however, it's highly unlikely to ever be able to kill you. An acid strong enough to melt you alive would melt right through the spitter
Unfortunately that is not how logic works in fantasy. That is like saying “permanently burning enemy does not follow rules of conservation of matter/energy”. Except supernatural elements can exist. Hell, zombies on themselves are supernatural. Even some as weak as Walking Dead, since they don’t need to breathe, sleep, and can keep staying alive even if their head was decapitated. Zombies are a prime example of suspending logic. So, if there already exists an acid thrower zombie, it’s very existence implies that it is possible by some mambo-jumbo supernatural element, which zombies ARE.
My question is how Keith survived the apocalypse- don't remember if Ellis ever implied that he did but it'd be funny if he were to show up out of nowhere fully equipped and battle worn from all the shenanigans he got into.
He'd also have burn scars (ellis mentioned he got burned twice), prosthetic fingers and legs (ellis mentioned him losing those), and a lot more visible scars due to how much shit he's been through (Making homemade bumpercars out of lawnmowers only to fall under, nearly drowning in the tunnel of love, being tear gassed while camping on top of a roof, camping in the middle of a military bomb testing site, being stabbed by a homeless guy who he thought was a "ghost" in the middle of a graveyard, nearly dying after eating 5 pounds of sushi, and fell underneath an active rollercoaster)
He'd be burnt to a crisp from trying to make a fire-pipe launcher by putting a Molotov in a T-shirt cannon, have exclusively the *left hand* of a medieval suit of armor so he can beat common infected to death easily, and he'd be shot repeatedly on multiple different occasions because Coach, Rochel, and Ellis would think he's a new special type of infected. and when Coach asks Nick why he didn't shoot, he said he wouldn't want Keith to die unless it was by him wringing out his neck personally.

World war z (the book) dealt with this topic, and basically while many can survive on boats, the logistical problems of the boat breaking down, needing refueling, repairs, etc inevitably cause a lot of boats to go back to shore either by choice or because the current pushes them back. Also in the book, some of the survivors boarded boats while they were infected so there just a ton of 'ghost ships' full of zombies floating around and creating maritime hazards to people on uninfected boats
Hear me out, I believe that the main menus of L4D2 is from the eyes of a dead survivor/infected. Since the viewpoint is from the floor surrounded by infected. Just a theory.
One of the worst things during these apocalypse scenarios is you do not know who you can trust and that will basically turn majority of survivors against one another making the whole ability to build up groups close to impossible comparing to how its shown in films, stories and games.

Having a boat would be a literal safecard during any sort of apocalypse, it’s even better if you live right next to the docks that has them! I have a few reasons why. 1. Most boats come with water filtration systems so you wouldn’t have to worry about water, if you brought a fishing rod too then you’d pretty much have an ocean’s supply of food. 2. If there is a nuclear war, no one is going to send a nuke into the middle of the dang ocean. 3. Zombies can’t swim. I'd probably be able to survive the initial outbreak due to the climate and below average population I'm in and also due to the fact that I have proven to have an overly strong immune system, but my lack of fitness, combat knowledge and supplies is definitely going to get me long before the special infected are taken into account-

Since zombies can't really feel pain, they would be able to run forever, but there is only so much trauma the human body can take. A zombie could probably dead sprint for 24 hours straight without stopping, but the leg bones could shatter, or the muscles could burst, or the tendons could rip. I don't know how long it would take for that to happen because most people stop running when they feel pain. Zombies wouldn't stop until their legs were overworked to oblivion.

there is no realistic way of thinking what type of zombie that could be. 28 days later have a solid explanation that the virus is some sort of highly evolved rabies which not kill you just make you to be a super human with rabies that are able to run but if you are dead then you will not be infected, the walking dead virus can infect both the living and death so if that person dies he/she can still be a zombie. all of that is possible depending on the situation, so it's a matter of luck really, just hope the virus are just some reanimation virus that controls what the user do but with some limitation rather than idk some super virus that makes the host go beyond human limit and ran as fast as a antelope
As Simon Pegg put it for Shaun of the Dead, 'Death's not an energy drink.' Rotting muscles and bone structure wouldn't be very effective and would be relatively easy to beat if you did it right. Of course, L4D and 28 Days Later scenarios are much worse, since they aren't technically dead and can just keep running at you.

As a competitive shooter and instructor myself, I think you nailed on of the biggest problems with these situations. Firearms require an extensive amount of training, especially in high stress situations.
Plus maintenance and of course feeding them. Ammo would disappear overnight with the amount of panic fire and wasted shots the average civilian would take.

The reason why the survivors escaped the apocalypse is because they’re immune to all of the contagious effects that cause the infection to spread upon contact with the virus. Which means they could breathe in the contaminated air, get bitten several times, and still remain non-infected. That’s why zombies result to pure brute force instead of biting, because they’re intelligent enough to realize that the survivors won’t budge to the virus. Very interesting stuff, actually. Go read about how the survivors obtained immunity to the virus, it’s worth your time if you’re a L4D like I am.
they are carriers, its proved in l4d1 where zoey kills the heli pilot cause he turned into a zombie despite having no bites and didn't breath the toxic air. I think the l4d2 survivors ARE just immune because when they are around people the people don't turn into zombies.

Why I wouldn't survive the L4D universe 1: A high change of being infected by air or a scratch/bite from the infected. 2: Even if i managed to make it pretty far, I'd probably be gunned down by the military 3: I am not very strong 4: I run out of breath fast 5: The Special Infected, I could probably take on a Boomer (Maybe a Spitter?) but as for the Hunter, Smoker, Witch, Jockey, Tank and Charger, I'd be screwed.
An animals response to fatigue has to do with more than simple endurance, it’s also the body‘s way of protecting itself from injury, and muscle degradation. The reality is that if people were infected, and lost their ability to appropriately respond to fatigue, their body and muscles would begin to break down... within a single day. If you ran full-speed for hours on end, you would tear and detach nearly every muscle in your arms and legs along with all of your tendons, and ligaments, which would leave the affected appendage inoperable. Just because you can’t feel or respond to pain doesn’t mean you would be excluded from the affects of redlining your body for hours, days, and weeks on end. Not having the awareness to do things like brace yourself for impact, or consciously adjust your body would also lead to some very severe injuries that the infected would not just be able to shrug off. When a normal person jumps off of an elevated point, they know to position their bodies to absorb impact without injuring themselves, but an infected person, or a zombie, is just going to dive off of that elevated point, without appropriately shifting their weight or maneuvering to allow themselves to land without injury... which would lead to millions upon millions of shattered bones in the feet, ankles, and legs. Honestly, that type of outbreak would actually be over far sooner than one with a bunch of slow moving zombies, and may even be more survivable in many ways. If you could get past the first three months or so, nearly every single infected person/zombie would have pushed their body to the point that it would be completely in operable, so while they may not be dead, they’ll most likely just be lying around yelling, unable to move their legs and arms, and you could just play clean-up. Obviously, the initial outbreak would be far more dangerous and perilous, but if you were in a secure location with enough supplies to last you a couple of months, you’d probably be fine.
Quiet Time Gaming You forgot that the Green Flu mutates, as well as how often the infected actually run. In the game, they’re mostly seen walking around, or sitting down. They barely run for miles. You could take the Parish Finale into account, but by going into noclip after starting the event and standing a safe distance where the infected doesn’t see you, you can see they rest along the cars. The Green Flu happens to mutate the infected body. Such Gaming was wrong about saying the infected doesn’t experience fatigue. The infected are shown to rest if they don’t see a survivor. The infected on L4D do experience fatigue, but are less tolerable to it since the Green Flu would mutate their ability to run for miles on end. Also, running a consistent time, for a long period of time is not even shown at all. The infected wouldn’t die from that at all. You still need to take into consideration that the infected isn’t the only thing in the L4D universe. You forgot about Hunters and Jockeys. Hunters would leap from tall buildings, and hit the ground on their legs and hands, without breaking a bone. Jockeys could leap higher than a person. The only way to survive this apocalypse is if you had an immunity to the Virus, but even then you would need to have good experience with guns, able to use a medkit properly, quickly get through hordes, and make sure your group is trustworthy.
See the problem with your argument is that you assume zombies follow the science that we understand. Given that they dont exist, you cant apply logic to their existence. If they did, you would be right however

Exactly... For a video game, I obviously would expect them to take liberties with physics and the science of how an infection or outbreak would work... But if you wanted to talk about how things would really go down (more or less), you'd have to consider aspects that games and movies don't have to think about. And as scary as "rage zombies" are, the reality is that their single-minded thirst/hunger and their complete disregard for self-preservation would be their primary undoing. It's important to remember that *the FIRST law of nature for every organism on the planet is self-preservation* . If you stripped that away from ANY species, they would go extinct within a few generations. Imagine if someone approached EVERY SINGLE ASPECT of their regular lives without ANY regard to their personal well-being... Most people wouldn't last a day. That's not to say the vast majority of the population would survive it, but that if you could survive the first few months, the large majority of the zombies would have destroyed their own bodies, greatly increasing your chance of survivability, even beyond what it would be if we were to experience an outbreak that produced slow, "walking-dead-style" zombies... Because even though they're "dumber" and slower than rage-zombies, they don't possess the speed and ferocity to run their bodies into the ground, meaning their going to last FAR longer than rage-infected would.

About slow zombies becoming a proper threat, I think World War Z does help paint that picture a bit better and why I really enjoy the novel. Effectively, it wasn't the zombies that caused the outbreak to grow so far out of control, but the government's inability and unwillingness to change in order to protect people. Looking how some countries handled COVID-19, it helps make it even more clear how a zombie virus can quickly grow to be an existential threat.

I think this is the only zombie infection where I would put myself out on Day 1 of learning of the infection. Seeing what these infected can do, dying to one isn't any more scary of painful than the other. -Get vomited on, impairing your vision and then beaten and gnawed to death. -Hear a haunting screech only to have a 200 pound man apply hundreds of falling force to break your spine instantly. That would be the quick and lucky death as he could easy just shred you to pieces. -A Chargers smack only would render you unconsciousness so a Charge would too, and if he hits a wall, you're dead. -Spitters acid would melt your skin away. Better hope it doesn't get on your face, hands, or feet. -Having a slimy, rope tongue dragging and squeezing you up a builing would make you a pinata to local infected. -Being jumped on and having your eyes scratched out. I don't think need to explain just how painful dying to a Tank or Witch would be. It would be fast, but the time being conscious, you'll feel the most immense amount of pain a human could feel. How the survivors make it though the world is outstanding considering the infected perfectly work in sync together with their different abilities.
Doesn't matter, the higher your speed, the higher your mass can also change into for a short second. You'll most definitely have your spine broken unless the hunter doesn't jump on you from a tall building.

yeah i think the key strategy to avoiding the normal infected is to make alot of distraction in the form of noise.We can see that in the game,those guys chase a pipe bomb obediently.And for the special infected,keep track of their movements from afar and avoid them as much as possible because there is no chance of winning a confrontation with them.theyre too evolved,all we can do is stay clear of their way,move in small groups id recommend 3 at most.always have a landmark meeting site incase of seperation.Idk strategies for food/ supplies-id need to be present before what supplies we have before taking things into account for voicing my opinions on the most effective management strategies

hell my main goal is kill at least 2 zombies. that sorts out my KD in the grand scheme. (as in, if i kill 2, even if i become a zombie, the number of zombies in the world is still down by 1. everything after that is just karmic gravy)

I feel like it really depends on the type of zombie apocalypse, if it’s a L4D style apocalypse literally everyone will die, not even a question. However if it’s a walking dead apocalypse, if you plan for it and either have a group or can move quietly and quickly enough you can probably survive well enough. Some of the survivors in the walking dead prove that you don’t have to be a spec ops soldier to survive

I just want to comment about the detail about the Spitter's acid. Stomach acid doesn't cause immediate damage. Your epithelial layer will last long enough for you to wash it out without issue. The main concern comes from getting it in your eyes, which can cause damage; however, it's highly unlikely to ever be able to kill you. An acid strong enough to melt you alive would melt right through the spitter

World war z (the book) dealt with this topic, and basically while many can survive on boats, the logistical problems of the boat breaking down, needing refueling, repairs, etc inevitably cause a lot of boats to go back to shore either by choice or because the current pushes them back. Also in the book, some of the survivors boarded boats while they were infected so there just a ton of 'ghost ships' full of zombies floating around and creating maritime hazards to people on uninfected boats

Having a boat would be a literal safecard during any sort of apocalypse, it’s even better if you live right next to the docks that has them! I have a few reasons why.
1. Most boats come with water filtration systems so you wouldn’t have to worry about water, if you brought a fishing rod too then you’d pretty much have an ocean’s supply of food.
2. If there is a nuclear war, no one is going to send a nuke into the middle of the dang ocean.
3. Zombies can’t swim.

there is no realistic way of thinking what type of zombie that could be. 28 days later have a solid explanation that the virus is some sort of highly evolved rabies which not kill you just make you to be a super human with rabies that are able to run but if you are dead then you will not be infected, the walking dead virus can infect both the living and death so if that person dies he/she can still be a zombie. all of that is possible depending on the situation, so it's a matter of luck really, just hope the virus are just some reanimation virus that controls what the user do but with some limitation rather than idk some super virus that makes the host go beyond human limit and ran as fast as a antelope

Rotting muscles and bone structure wouldn't be very effective and would be relatively easy to beat if you did it right. Of course, L4D and 28 Days Later scenarios are much worse, since they aren't technically dead and can just keep running at you.

As a competitive shooter and instructor myself, I think you nailed on of the biggest problems with these situations. Firearms require an extensive amount of training, especially in high stress situations.
Plus maintenance and of course feeding them. Ammo would disappear overnight with the amount of panic fire and wasted shots the average civilian would take.

The reason why the survivors escaped the apocalypse is because they’re immune to all of the contagious effects that cause the infection to spread upon contact with the virus. Which means they could breathe in the contaminated air, get bitten several times, and still remain non-infected. That’s why zombies result to pure brute force instead of biting, because they’re intelligent enough to realize that the survivors won’t budge to the virus. Very interesting stuff, actually. Go read about how the survivors obtained immunity to the virus, it’s worth your time if you’re a L4D like I am.

Why I wouldn't survive the L4D universe
1: A high change of being infected by air or a scratch/bite from the infected.
2: Even if i managed to make it pretty far, I'd probably be gunned down by the military
3: I am not very strong
4: I run out of breath fast
5: The Special Infected, I could probably take on a Boomer (Maybe a Spitter?) but as for the Hunter, Smoker, Witch, Jockey, Tank and Charger, I'd be screwed.

An animals response to fatigue has to do with more than simple endurance, it’s also the body‘s way of protecting itself from injury, and muscle degradation.
The reality is that if people were infected, and lost their ability to appropriately respond to fatigue, their body and muscles would begin to break down... within a single day.
If you ran full-speed for hours on end, you would tear and detach nearly every muscle in your arms and legs along with all of your tendons, and ligaments, which would leave the affected appendage inoperable.
Just because you can’t feel or respond to pain doesn’t mean you would be excluded from the affects of redlining your body for hours, days, and weeks on end.
Not having the awareness to do things like brace yourself for impact, or consciously adjust your body would also lead to some very severe injuries that the infected would not just be able to shrug off.
When a normal person jumps off of an elevated point, they know to position their bodies to absorb impact without injuring themselves, but an infected person, or a zombie, is just going to dive off of that elevated point, without appropriately shifting their weight or maneuvering to allow themselves to land without injury... which would lead to millions upon millions of shattered bones in the feet, ankles, and legs.
Honestly, that type of outbreak would actually be over far sooner than one with a bunch of slow moving zombies, and may even be more survivable in many ways.
If you could get past the first three months or so, nearly every single infected person/zombie would have pushed their body to the point that it would be completely in operable, so while they may not be dead, they’ll most likely just be lying around yelling, unable to move their legs and arms, and you could just play clean-up.
Obviously, the initial outbreak would be far more dangerous and perilous, but if you were in a secure location with enough supplies to last you a couple of months, you’d probably be fine.
Finally someone with a proper brain
Quiet Time Gaming You forgot that the Green Flu mutates, as well as how often the infected actually run. In the game, they’re mostly seen walking around, or sitting down. They barely run for miles. You could take the Parish Finale into account, but by going into noclip after starting the event and standing a safe distance where the infected doesn’t see you, you can see they rest along the cars. The Green Flu happens to mutate the infected body.
Such Gaming was wrong about saying the infected doesn’t experience fatigue. The infected are shown to rest if they don’t see a survivor. The infected on L4D do experience fatigue, but are less tolerable to it since the Green Flu would mutate their ability to run for miles on end. Also, running a consistent time, for a long period of time is not even shown at all. The infected wouldn’t die from that at all. You still need to take into consideration that the infected isn’t the only thing in the L4D universe. You forgot about Hunters and Jockeys. Hunters would leap from tall buildings, and hit the ground on their legs and hands, without breaking a bone. Jockeys could leap higher than a person. The only way to survive this apocalypse is if you had an immunity to the Virus, but even then you would need to have good experience with guns, able to use a medkit properly, quickly get through hordes, and make sure your group is trustworthy.
See the problem with your argument is that you assume zombies follow the science that we understand. Given that they dont exist, you cant apply logic to their existence. If they did, you would be right however

Applying science and realism to this scenario is literally the only way to have a coherent discussion about it. In the context of a real _'What if?'_ scenario, there's no point in factoring in magic zombies who somehow defy the laws of physics. Lol.
Exactly... For a video game, I obviously would expect them to take liberties with physics and the science of how an infection or outbreak would work... But if you wanted to talk about how things would really go down (more or less), you'd have to consider aspects that games and movies don't have to think about.
And as scary as "rage zombies" are, the reality is that their single-minded thirst/hunger and their complete disregard for self-preservation would be their primary undoing. It's important to remember that *the FIRST law of nature for every organism on the planet is self-preservation* . If you stripped that away from ANY species, they would go extinct within a few generations.
Imagine if someone approached EVERY SINGLE ASPECT of their regular lives without ANY regard to their personal well-being... Most people wouldn't last a day.

Because even though they're "dumber" and slower than rage-zombies, they don't possess the speed and ferocity to run their bodies into the ground, meaning their going to last FAR longer than rage-infected would.
the zombies in Left 4 Dead aren't trying to bite you; they are trying to beat the shit out of you.

steal a medieval suit of armor, go to New York city, take every pistol you can find, and duct tape them together to create a *Shots Gun* that has unlimited reserve ammo.

About slow zombies becoming a proper threat, I think World War Z does help paint that picture a bit better and why I really enjoy the novel. Effectively, it wasn't the zombies that caused the outbreak to grow so far out of control, but the government's inability and unwillingness to change in order to protect people. Looking how some countries handled COVID-19, it helps make it even more clear how a zombie virus can quickly grow to be an existential threat.

I think this is the only zombie infection where I would put myself out on Day 1 of learning of the infection. Seeing what these infected can do, dying to one isn't any more scary of painful than the other.
-Get vomited on, impairing your vision and then beaten and gnawed to death.
-Hear a haunting screech only to have a 200 pound man apply hundreds of falling force to break your spine instantly. That would be the quick and lucky death as he could easy just shred you to pieces.
-A Chargers smack only would render you unconsciousness so a Charge would too, and if he hits a wall, you're dead.
-Spitters acid would melt your skin away. Better hope it doesn't get on your face, hands, or feet.

I don't think need to explain just how painful dying to a Tank or Witch would be. It would be fast, but the time being conscious, you'll feel the most immense amount of pain a human could feel.
How the survivors make it though the world is outstanding considering the infected perfectly work in sync together with their different abilities.

yeah i think the key strategy to avoiding the normal infected is to make alot of distraction in the form of noise.We can see that in the game,those guys chase a pipe bomb obediently.And for the special infected,keep track of their movements from afar and avoid them as much as possible because there is no chance of winning a confrontation with them.theyre too evolved,all we can do is stay clear of their way,move in small groups id recommend 3 at most.always have a landmark meeting site incase of seperation.Idk strategies for food/ supplies-id need to be present before what supplies we have before taking things into account for voicing my opinions on the most effective management strategies
