This vid made me realise that after all 4 l4d2 survivors basically walked through sewer water, they all sat inside Jimmy Gibbs car. It musta been an awful smelling drive till they reached Whispering Oaks
The sad reality that Bills death caused the L4D1 survivors to pretty much mature and finally notice just how far he was going to defend them is always touching. Bill's entire purpose wasn't to get to a remote island and die of old age, it was to ensure that those looking to him as a leader got to that stage, and he was happy to die at the last hurdle. Juxtaposed with the L4D2 survivors, where there's not really a main leader role, and it's 4 survivors trying to get to their goal; it's would make sense the L4D1 survivors didn't warn them about the military. Firstly, they're not 100% sure they're carriers, but also it's not something Bill would have done either. Quite simply if they warned the survivors, they'd give up on their goals and potentially try to join the L4D1 survivors, which is something they're likely not fond of at that moment in time. Bill's purpose was to save the 3 of them, not to have those 3 then risk saving others alongside it. To inform others about the military would be causing potential risk to themselves, and lead to the potential of ruining what Bill sacrificed for them.
I like to imagine that the different dialogs characters can share with each other are ideas in their heads of what maybe to say and each time you play the games, they're alternate universes where they decided to say those certain things. Just the fact that zoey could question whether or not they should have gone with them suggests it was an idea in her head that she in most universes ignored, but that one rare time she calls out to ellis is the one time she actually had second thoughts at the last second as they drove by and the fact thay its such a low possibility to get that dialog implies that it wasnt too much on her mind and was set on bill's goal
@@tropicalbreeze1164 the left 4 dead games are genuinely super fucking intresting in how they tell their story. Co op online games, about moving through linear levels like a racing game, while having dialog exchanges that are different every time you play and flesh out the characters in hundreds of different ways? Oh yeah, forgot the fact that L4D survivors don't really know if the L4D2 survivors are carriers, immune or just normal human, which is maybe why they dont share too much stuff of the military to them.
0:58 - The Passing actually takes place a day later, evidenced by Coach telling Ellis "You've been killing zombies for the better part of 2 days", which implies that 24-48 hours have passed since they first encountered the infected in Dead Center. Since Dead Center takes place during the daytime, and The Passing takes place in the evening, it can only be on the day after, around 36 hours later.
the passing genuinely feels like a lighthearted funeral where instead of mourning the loss, everyone pours a drink out for the person who passed away you’d think for a campaign named after both the passing of the torch and the passing of bill, arguably an all time favorite character in the series, it would be dark, depressing, sad, but nope, it’s heartfelt and light, even the map tones and landmarks can show that the sacrifice is dark, dreary, depressing, and is a bad omen for the events in the future, alongside the path being beaten up and torn up or abandoned, the train yard is an example, broken down boats and bridges, a crashed train, etc. the passing is light, the streets are bright, and you’re walking through what others would call a town of happiness, a wedding going on with a jukebox, tattoo parlors, bars across the street from one another, an unfinished tour nearby, it genuinely feels like a place to go after a tragic loss to wash away the sadness i know i basically typed out a novel about two campaigns in a funny zombie game where you can mod the common to be cupcakes, but i’ve been around since before l4d2 got the passing dlc and even when the l4d1 campaigns were ported over, i hold the game in high regard and i love it to death tl;dr, good video, made me dump my feelings on a game i love lol
9:12 The answer is really kinda boring, but I think it's simply that because this was released after The Parish did, the story would make even less sense if the L4D2 crew still went to New Orleans after being told it's a death sentence. I'm also shocked you didn't mention the Midnight Riders Van that can rarely be seen driving down a road in the campaign.
I mean the military in the comic was cut off and acting alone, we only have the context of the carrier at the very end being prepped for carriers which paints a better picture
@@yellow9053 I guess so, though at the same time, the L4D1 crew had no desire to try the military again after their first run-in, and it feels weird that they wouldn't warn others about their experiences
@@headcrabking9054They kinda did, though. Louis tells them they would rather stay and not go with them because they had enough of the military, the l4d2 crew simply didn't ask them for an explanation nor reason.
@@avion682 perhaps, but that feels rather dissatisfying as an answer. Especially since by the end of the level, the two teams grow to respect each other, but the L4D1 crew still doesn't want to explain that they're driving into a deathtrap? It feels more like the writers trying to smoothly fit The Passing into L4D2s storyline rather than having more reasonable character interactions, at the expense of the entire narrative that was already made.
@@headcrabking9054 A small warning could have worked, something by the lines of "Be careful, the military isn't as friendly as you think it is" while they're driving away would fit. Also, remember that Millhaven outpost lost communication with command, so they acted by what they believed to be the right thing to do. The rest of the military can be heard talking about proper equipment for transporting carriers (proved by The Parish campaign's radio at the end), so chasing the military wasn't really a death sentence, the l4d1 crew just had terrible luck
I love the hints that Nick and Francis potentially knew each other Especially because its hinted at the idea that they're from the same gang because Francis has a tattoo of a symbol that Nick has on his ring
I always assumed the L4D1 survivors didn't tell the L4D2 survivors about the military because they didn't know if they were immune or not, and it would be better to let them have hope since they didn't know if they would survive or not
I think that after Nick saw Bill's body, he realized that being a bad guy in this world is not worth it and felt sorry for being an asshole since in Dead Center he was an asshole pretty much the whole time yapping about leaving them on the next ocasion
I adore these interactions between the l4d1 survivor with l4d2 survivor to make them feel more alive and an actual human being, not to mention their different personality shining through in this chapter to see their sides as well.
I do think the reason why the L4D 1 survivors didn’t tell the L4D 2 survivors about the military is because the moment they realize that salvation to New Orleans is a pipe dream, they’d want to go on the sail boat too but having 4 more mouths to feed on a small sail boat would be problematic especially if they are out at sea which can risk running out of food before they reach the island. Further more they are probably honoring Bill’s words “We look after our own.”
It'd also ruin the story flow of the main game, since "The Passing" and "The Sacrifice" are both DLCs, and hence, technically not part of the original story.
The l4d1 crew did not warn them because that would make the entirety of l4d2's story seem weird, like why would they attempt to find the military if they were warned about doing that
To me it seems like yes Zoey adopted Bills’ world view but she’s still herself underneath it. She knows that her original goal is unachievable but she still wants it. She doesn’t tell the l4d2 survivors about the military because she wants them to still have hope to be able to go on, which is both kind and cruel because while they’ll have hope if they ever end up with the military (as they do in the Parish) that hope will be proven false.
There was a sort of webtoon that expands their fates and near the ending, they got reunited. And during their time in the Keys, both Zoey and Francis somehow start to worry about Coach's group.
8:54: I've also had Nick yell "THANK YOU!" while rushing to the car before once the generator was filled up (I wasn't playing as him, though). Goes to show he's not a TOTAL jerk. :)
one line i love is between Coach and Louis at the start of the finale. I can't remember which one says it, but it's something like "Oh thank god! I thought i was the last black man on earth!"
One thing that confuses me here is why they'd be willing to relower the bridge before they go through. And if the sailboat is already passed, why are they even on the bridge still?
You can see that the sailboat was already moved to the other side, and they were waiting for Louis' leg injury to heal before leaving. At that point in time, it's only been like 2 days since Louis got injured.

The grafitti in the bar is actually full of references to Zombie films. The saving dog one is Dawn of the Dead, Ed is king of the zombies - Shaun of the Dead, The end is ******* nigh - 28 Days Later, there's probably a whole lot more there
Also sometimes in the saferoom before the finale Ellis asks Nick for his suit to impress Zoe when he asks her to go out with him, or sometimes Rochelle (again in the saferoom before the finale) is giving Ellis advice to talk with Zoe
I haven't caught on with all of your videos but I can definitely see you getting more views. I can just tell it is one of those channels. Probably won't be until the right time from either a resurgence or a popular trend is covered.
I feel like Nick was always the closest one to a leader the L4D2 crew has but still has flaws such as being pessimistic and arrogant at times So thats why he has the most important dialogue, because first he doesnt completely trust the L4D1 crew but at the end he finally starts to work and trust them
I like to think the reason why the l4d 1 Survivors didn't mention what happened to them with l4d2 is to not give up hope. Knowing that all their time surviving and bonding in a sense was all for nothing and even more so that they had possible unaware infected non-infected people aside from virgil. It'll most likely crush their spirit knowing they'll end up just like Bill. All they work for was for nothing, probably why they withheld the information as to not crush their hope maybe they'll get lucky
5:44 that's a Reference to DAWN OF THE DEAD 2004 where Nicole tried to rescue chips the dog in andy's gun shop but she ended up getting cornered/trapped in there so the survivors went there to rescue her
Love the fact frank west in name is in l4d2 Also if they had told them about the military it might have crushed their spirits but saved their lives but in a world full of death hope becomes gold
The final chapter lines about withholding info isn't a nitpick for me Them holding back information that could destroy the L4D2 Crew's hope makes sense It's proven when Zoey says "No, it's hard enough out there already" Which to me, implies that there isn't enough hope to push people on and that, if there is no hope, what's the point in trying to survive so them withholding information that would tear away that hope from the L4D2 crew makes sense since it's their motivation to keep going
9:10 I have a theory that the part in the comic where zoey said "We look after our own" meaning if they wanted to tell them, they cant since they just have to look for their own now, or that supplies are lacking for them. Just a little theory of mine but all hope isnt lost cuz they'll probably live against the military after the parish and see each other again (i would love that)
9:09 if think they are referring to the fact that immune people are not actually immune but they are carriers, wich is also something they discover during the comic (from what i can gather the l4d2 survivors are completely oblivious of that fact)
Nick kinda opened my eyes a bit and made me realize that Francis must reek like a literal armpit
its not confirmed if any of the survivors took showers
Honestly I think they all do atp
Wonder if Francis hasn't cleaned his vest after Bill wiped bile on it.

Nice little Easter egg of the bands bus in chapter 1 leaving.
4:00 this is the only time i agree with ellis, it does just make sense
I haven't caught on with all of your videos but I can definitely see you getting more views. I can just tell it is one of those channels. Probably won't be until the right time from either a resurgence or a popular trend is covered.
I love L4D2 & 1 been playing um for years grow up on um love the vids keep it up my guy
I love how L4D is still going strong so I can watch all these videos
Please post more of these. You are doing God's work.
I feel like Nick was always the closest one to a leader the L4D2 crew has but still has flaws such as being pessimistic and arrogant at times
So thats why he has the most important dialogue, because first he doesnt completely trust the L4D1 crew but at the end he finally starts to work and trust them
I always saw coach as the leader since he was always the one guiding and complimenting his teammates much like an actual Coach.
The Dog grafiti was from Nicole from Dawn of the Dead Remake. Frank West from Dead Rising too.
Nice video makes me realize how much a masterpiece l4d2 is.
"Ed king of the zombies"
Sounds like a Shaun of the Dead reference.
5:44 that's a Reference to DAWN OF THE DEAD 2004 where Nicole tried to rescue chips the dog in andy's gun shop but she ended up getting cornered/trapped in there so the survivors went there to rescue her
love these kinds of videos! keep diving into the lore of the game pls cheers to u pal!
keep em coming, made me download l4d2 after 12 yrs
Ever since it's release it was always my favorite campaign and always will be
You have a nice voice. I could be interested heavily thanks to it
This kind of video is fun, you should make it a series man!
Love the fact frank west in name is in l4d2
Also if they had told them about the military it might have crushed their spirits but saved their lives but in a world full of death hope becomes gold
Great job on this videos! I love them!
L4D is just the best game of my adolescence.
Here before this blows up lemme contribute ❤
Never get to hear the second bridge dialogue in full, because everyone in coop heads straighr for the elevator every time
The final chapter lines about withholding info isn't a nitpick for me
Them holding back information that could destroy the L4D2 Crew's hope makes sense
It's proven when Zoey says "No, it's hard enough out there already"
Which to me, implies that there isn't enough hope to push people on and that, if there is no hope, what's the point in trying to survive so them withholding information that would tear away that hope from the L4D2 crew makes sense since it's their motivation to keep going
9:10 I have a theory that the part in the comic where zoey said "We look after our own" meaning if they wanted to tell them, they cant since they just have to look for their own now, or that supplies are lacking for them.
Just a little theory of mine but all hope isnt lost cuz they'll probably live against the military after the parish and see each other again (i would love that)
I like the frank West graffiti Easter egg
Very happy to see this in my sub box, cheers boss
Glad you enjoyed it :)
5:54 i think "ed is king of the zombies" is a shaun of the dead reference after ed gets zombified
I absolutely love these videos! ❤
I think the l4d1 survivors did not tell them because they did not wanted to take the l4d2 survivors last hope from the.
You got yourself a new subscriber my friend 😁 been a fan of L4D since I was a fetus in my ancestors leg.
That's certainly 1 way to put it 😄
9:09 if think they are referring to the fact that immune people are not actually immune but they are carriers, wich is also something they discover during the comic (from what i can gather the l4d2 survivors are completely oblivious of that fact)
