Virginia Port Police Try To Stop My Delivery Of Air Force Striker Fire Truck [Deliver Anyway]

  • VA Port Police higher ups get mad when we call to get paperwork issues straightened out. Because one "Captain" got mad, he wouldn't allow me to hire a Twic Escort to get on the port. I was told by VA Port Authority Police to hire a random driver (that I didn't know), (cash) to take a $1,000,000.00 fire truck with no training on how to operate my RGN or having a truck capable to detach the trailer from the goose neck. This was done to punish my company for calling to solve problems. I could not leave with the truck as there were no permits to leave once I arrived, and I couldn't stay on site until the next day. Thus I was in a bind. If the delivery wasn't made the truck would miss its voyage. I don't think they wanted that responsibility in the end. And I wasn't going to let just some random driver take the load and potentially damage or destroy it.

My uncle was a firefighter for 30 years in Florida. Back in the 2000s there was a truck that was carrying military explosives that got into an accident and had a small fire. Shut the whole interstate down on both sides for miles cause...explosives. Local Fire roll, State Troopers set up road blocks. They had to contact EOD from Patrick AFB to roll out there as well as some DoD suit. Anyway EOD said that fire had to stay on scene and hose down the munitions continously for the next 12 hours before the could assess how to proceed to handle them. State Trooper being the highest authority on scene (minus the EOD and fed) says that's not happening, he's got to get this interstate open and rolling. DoD suit says that's not happening. Pisses off State Trooper. Trooper responds something to the affect of " I have orders from the governor of the state (Jeb Bush) to get this interstate open" to which the suit replies "well his brother (President Bush) says I can keep the interstate shut down for the next 24hrs" conversation ended and fire was there for the 12hrs 🤣

I had a security guard at a gated community with a golf course see my dog sleeping in the passenger seat of my truck and try to refuse to let me on the property. We argued for about 3 minutes when I told him I'll dump the whole load at his gate then drive through his gate do my U-turn and drive back through the exit gate because I own my truck nobody's taking it from me. Then started to lift my trailer. My trailer got about 2 ft up and all of a sudden his gate opened up. When my dispatch called me I told them exactly what happened and they laughed. I moved lots of loads for the DOD, loved those loads. Rarely did I have problems. Those rare times I did I would simply remind whomever was causing a problem this is for the military. Get over whatever problem you have or I contact my contact number. The food chain for this load ultimately goes to Homeland Security. You don't want them talking to your boss. This is not a conversation you want to have. Most would then figure out to resolve the problem. On one occasion the local MP'S showed up and things got cleared up REAL FAST. Have a great day.👍🍻

I found one that required _this, and that and the other_ to be done to my truck (basically cleaning to a certain standard) that I performed onsite to the satisfaction of the loading supervisor. Eventually he approached me and declared it was too late for loading to happen, and that I would have to return on the following day. My response was along the lines of "OK, but you'll be in hospital by then." He had me fully loaded in less than an hour with all paperwork made out and just waiting for my signature. He even offered to personally help me rope and sheet it all. I respectfully declined and was home, cuddled in bed with my wife, inside my working hours that day!

Yep, sometimes that's how the Almighty PO PO can be sometimes. They think that they are God and have the final say in everything, and then they get all pissy when you go over their heads, and they suddenly find out that they don't actually have the final say at all, and all of the Sudden, their God Complex is shattered in front of their very eyes. Great call in getting the job done, and getting your load delivered on time.

Thanks for the footage. I don't drive a rig even though I wanted to when I was younger. You drove a route that I've driven most of my life. You actually drove right by my office at one point. I walk over an overpass frequently and watch the traffic on the interstate. I travel the tunnels and bridges you drove through and over frequently. Glad you didn't get stuck in one of the tunnels. You arrived at one of the busiest ports on the East Coast. My husband drives by it frequently on his trip to work and home. It was interesting to see it from a trucker's view. Portsmouth is one of the rudest cities in VA when it comes to authority. I prefer the rural communities. Sorry for the bad treatment. Glad you were able to find some decent people who helped you. I pray over the interstate travelers because it's crazy out there. You're braver than I am to drive a rig.

For some reason, a helicopter decided to fly thru the spray, which caused him to flame out, and make an immediate emergency landing. The first truck left, and a second truck came out for the emergency.

It was even there before the Flying J on the opposite side (back when Pilot and Flying J were separate companies). In addition, where you're turning right was the original intersection itself with a traffic light and everything. On the Original Pilot/Love's side it was a pain because cars would be trying to turn left out of the Car Parking literal feet from the traffic light itself. That is part of the reason why they overhauled that entire intersection / area to how it's setup now.

@@thanors2 If you don’t have a TWIC or it’s expired you don’t get in. I can’t speak for Norfolk but the ports in NC will require you to get out and go in their office and check your identity and then issue you a temporary pass which gets you in the gate. After dropping your equipment/ personnel you must turn the temporary pass back in as you go out the gates.
The closest TWIC office from me to get a pass is a 120 mile round trip and you must have an appointment before you go.
We transport a lot of military equipment/ personnel from bases to ports to be put on ships and it’s always a hassle because most drivers don’t have a TWIC card. Whoever the officer in charge is has to accompany the driver to the port security office and wait for the driver’s security check to go through before going into the gate. Security at ports is higher than the security on many military bases.

Unfortunately things like this rarely get to the top. The people that care are the people loading the ship, as space is reserved and the supply/motor pool officer that has a need for a piece of equipment, but doesn't have it.

@@truthseeker2321 -- Quite true. What happens is that if something is important to someone in the military the first time, it gets kicked up to the Pentagon and then over to another cabinet level and comes back down again. The word goes out to the civilian to cooperate with the military guy having the problem. The second time that happens, there usually is direct contact between the relatively low level military and civilian folks because with small problems are taken on at a high level, they aren't small problems anymore and some little guys can get into career trouble.

I strongly recommend getting your TWIC anyway... it gives you a KTN, which gives you expedited airport screenings. Never go through traditional TSA again
