Very insightful video about IAC-1. Heartfelt gratitude to the Indian Navy, Cochin Shipyard Ltd, OEMs, and everyone else involved with the creation of this naval behemoth. Waiting for the day when it will be officially commissioned into the Indian Navy as INS Vikrant.
There is nothing that I can say about any of the hosts' knowledge and prowess.. All of you are marvelous.. You all bring the best I would love to see all of you in Indian attire...
India will need 3 large aircraft carriers + 5 smaller aircraft carriers. With the knowhow India can "manufacture for sale" the smaller version to other friendly countries
Loved the snick pick into our very own IAC-1 sir. Lovely scenes captured, thanks to Rohit sir. Lets hope that this tech capability of designing and manufacturing is utilized to its best in the future and shall not be ceased to develop further. Jai Hind.
Good appreciation rightfully. The nation should congratulate the designers and builders. Regarding your comment whether we should have one more carrier let me say the following. If any country other than US has no carriers they should not go for carriers. Since we have been operating we should continue to build and operate. In that context we must have four carriers - three for thr three seas and one in reserve,
under current situation IN needs a fleet of three 44,000 ton - 53,000 ton (CATOBAR) aircraft carriers powered by fuel cell & Li-ion i-HYBRID marine propulsion tech!!! what is really needed is a proper CATOBAR aircraft carrier & not a STOBAR aircraft carrier that will severely limit it's own air arm's capabilities!!! and the Indian Navy knows this fact very well!!! if IN wanted to operate a mid-sized STOBAR aircraft carrier our Naval Design Bureau could have easily adopted the original British STOBAR design for IAC-1 but they didn't!!! keep in mind that Indian Navy has decades of experience in operating British built both CATOBAR & STOBAR aircraft carriers!!! instead IN opted for the Russian STOBAR aircraft carrier as a basis for IAC-1!!! why??? you know very well that INS Vikrant is flawed in more ways than you'll ever know!!!
A proud moment for India and all Indians. Congratulations to all involved in designing and building a behemoth of 40,000 tonnes, called INS Vikrant. Thanx, Nitin ji for bringing such a brief intro. Looking forward to receive detailed report from you. Jai Hind. 💪👍
Very detailed and first reporting about IAC-1.I was expecting it first from you. Rather than comparing any area with football filed we should compare it by cricket field in India for better understanding 😂😂 .
3:45 image of Admiral Kuznetsov (Russia's sole carrier) not INS Vikramaditya. First INS Vikrant was a light fleet carrier in a CATOBAR configuration. Later on when Indian Navy bought Sea Harriers along with INS Viraat (ex-HMS Hermes which was also CATOBAR light fleet carrier converted into STOVL configuration and was the flagship of Royal Navy's fleet sent for Falkland War) was converted into STOVL configuration. STOBAR carriers have their limitations, the ship has to be directed into the wind direction to help jets generate more lift. Fuel and weapons payload decreases of the aircraft, for AEW&C role you have to be dependent on helicopters. But these things aside India should move ahead on the basis of this accomplishment and look to build CATOBAR flat-tops to truly exploit carrier's capabilities in the IOR.
Makes me wonder if this setup is better than running VSTOL jet's like Harriers or now what the HMS Q is running (f35b). Also that 2nd run length to ramp looks substantially longer than the current carrier. This suggests larger payloads for the mig 29k on that ship. If this results in larger payloads? Then with say 24 fighters, this indeed looks to be a very good setup. Anyone have numbers that show increased fuel and payloads will result with this setup? I also wonder if this setup could allow adopting Rafael M versions? Given the ship size and number of fighters? That's looks quite amazing - and looks to be able to field as many fighters as the HMS Q. Very impressive - and I wonder if such a setup is a better choice than say using VSTOL jet's? No matter how one spins this? An amazing capabilities - and a domestic achievement. Few nations have such capabilities.
Mr Nitin, if I am not mistaken , weren't 4 fully functional aircraft carriers kaga , akagi , hiryu and soryu used in Pearl harbour and subsequently in midway where they had the one bad as hell day and lost it all? Never knew about 6. WW2 is fascinating
Correction sir, the US fielded more than 70 aircraft carriers by the end of WW2. They built 24 essex class fleet carriers, and the rest were small escort carriers.
There were no Helicopter carriers with Japan during WW 2 helicopters were in a nascent stage available with few countries including Germany but not with Japan. Japan had aircraft-carriers only for fixed wing which was and still is an easier technology to master.
Aircraft Carriers can conduct offensive operations thousands of miles away from home provided they have logistic support ships for fuel, ammunition and food. Carriers because of its huge size and slow speed are sitting ducks against anti ship missiles. That means even a weak nation with such missiles can take down a carrier. Normally the US aircraft carriers have a multilayered protection system.
While I am happy that 76% of the AC is indigenous, I hope the quality is up there with the best. We want Atmanirbhar bharat, but also that what we do should be quality wise the best. Also, you mentioned tat so many things we got right in the first trial itself. Is that of and by itself so good? Generally something like this happens when you have not aimed very high. If things go wrong that often teaches you more than what you get it right.
Big boost to atma nirbhar bharat. But after introduction of hypersonic anti missile zircon by russia the large aircraft carriers becomes sitting ducks for easy target.
Reverse thrust is obsolete in fighters, we use arrested landing on carriers, and massive airbrakes and drag chutes for other short landings. Iirc only a few fighters had reverse thrust, the SAAB Viggen is the only one i can recall off hand. Fighters are lighter than passenger jets so relatively less force is required to bring them to a stop.
Yep financial problems, design changes during building, sourcing foreign technologies, technology will be developed by DRDO then it will be transferred to local industries who produce it then give to Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL). Now Shipyard and local Insdustries got experience now CSL offers to build sister class of this ship within 7 years but Navy is not interested in Ski Jump, Cheif of Defence staff is also not interested he claims Andaman and Nicobar and Lakshadweep Islands are unsinkable aircraft carriers (because navy only aims to deploy aircraft carriers near coast I,e bay of bengal and Arabian Sea unlike the US or UK)
If we look at Indian navy it is far far behind Chinese Navy. India should put 20 Billion dollars separate apart from defense budget every year for next 10 years for defense acquisition. All the SSBNs and SSNs are yet to be put on order. We are far behind in count of destroyers and need 3rd aircraft carrier as critical force booster. We need 56 jets for navy. Do not wait for HAL to deliver as it is not the efficient organization as much as DRDO and ISRO. Put MRFA 114 jets order urgently. Need nuclear warheads at least 200 in numbers even though whatever the reason we give as our nuclear doctrine. We need 10 more P-8I atleast, 30 to 40 more strategic airlifters of quality of C-17 globemaster. We need air refuelers. We are literally lagging behind at multiple fronts. And will definately lose if at all the war with China begins. I am Indian but the reality has to be spoken. China is competing to USA and hence we are trying to somehow keep minimum conventional deterance that will exhaust more sooner than you think if a war takes place. It is never bad to have in excess than to face scarcity of it.
Project 71, 15A, 15 B were all started and continued from last 15- 20 , indigenisation process was since construction of INS DELHI class destroyer and up coming Project 18 . Putting label make in INDIA is making people FOOL , if it is by Polytician OK , but even Mr. Gokhale you too?

It is great to know that Indian MSMEs got resurrected to play an important role in building the indigenous aircraft carrier.

Sir just a query are we going for INS Vishal any time soon? MoD is not very keen as it seems .
Ideally Indian navy should have four aircraft carriers to defend their long coastline from Pakistan and China.

Thanks nitin sir
Congratulations Nitin. And very informative report indeed.
Hats off to the eco-system who built IAC-1 on this independence Jai Hind!!

after building aircraft carrier indigenously successfully can we build LPDs on our own ? if not so then where the design of a LPD differs from AC.?
LPD as I know are much smaller in size and mainly carry helicopters or attack helos. If anyone know more abt it feel free to share

Air-craft carrier = projection of power
Every thing is okay in INS Vikrant except Mig-29s the pre-historic era.
Russia stopped supplying high grade steel for IAC1 and within 2 years DRDO supplied better steel for this project
