INS Vikrant was inducted in 1961 and it's moment of glory came during the 1971 War, as the Indian Army launched its blitzkrieg into East Pakistan - present day Bangladesh - US President Richard Nixon had a terrible idea. Under the pretext of evacuating American citizens from the warzone, Nixon ordered the US Seventh Fleet’s Task Force 74, led by the nuclear powered aircraft carrier Enterprise, to proceed towards the Bay of Bengal. Wow ship is under construction still so fast Indians are at building ships . You only need hard hats to move around such a safe ship . So proud of india .
This career started its construction in 2009 , it’s a complex ship building process . It was the UPA which initiated it and the NDA is continuing it . Many recently concluded infrastructure projects wether they are mountain tunnels in the north or the longest bridge in the east was started during the UPA regime . So it’s not one persons or governments credit . Development is a continuous process and Governments across parties have carried it ..
@PrincE this was never stalled , and also the sea trials have happened now . It would take some time before it gets inducted . It’s a complex process , so why don’t you ask why it took 7 years under NDA rule . These things take time , the next carrier would be built in a shorter time .
Its not Modi building the carrier. Its the Navy and govt of india. Whoever comes to rule has to support it. Thats how it works. All defence projects dont run on who is in power. Every defence project takes decades. Secondly make in india is a PR drama. Practically no country anywhere in the world makes everything their own. Ship has plenty of imported components. Lethargic workstyle of DRDO and other defence organizations will never allow faster execution or much innovation. Most projects get shelved and they import. Highlight here is Cochin shipyards expertise in building large aircraft carrier and the designers of the ship, though heavily influenced from admiral goroshkov, still they were able to replicate and modify it for indian needs. Make in india was there or not, whatever has to be made in india, people always made. Whole ISRO is Made in India (not just make in india) for decades without any PR work.
Its important to keep building aircraft carriers.. Its not cup cakes where you can build in an year.. In fact we need two shipyards to keep building two new aircraft carriers as 6000 crore per year for the next 7-8 years....
We need the IAC-2, in all probability to be called INS Vishal. As Ms. Dhoundial put it aptly, it would be a travesty to let go of the valuable experience gained by our shipbuilders while building the IAC Vikrant. Ideally, the IAC2 should be with nuclear propulsion and with a much potent air wing than the current MiG 29Ks!
India aircraft carrier Power system-American Radar-Israeli Aircraft carrier steel-Russian Shipborne command system-French Propeller- norway People who put it all together-India So it is Indian aircraft carrier. . . . . China aircraft carrier Power system - china Radar - china Steel - china Command system - china Propeller - china People who built - chinese So it is china aircraft carrier.
Yes, you called it right. It is the historical, the most detailed domestic build carrier in the world. It took 22 years to built at a unplanned budget of $2.9B (originally budget $0 5B). The best of all, it was openly declared to be the best of all carriers in whole of Asia. Vitrant is indeed the best of all in the country and a comparison of two the first but now retired Vitrant (I) and its replacement VITRANT.
Maintenance cost is triple for nuclear powered carrier and even if it doesn’t need refueling for 20-25 years it needs to be docked for resupplies for the crew... and further more decommissioning cost will also be tripled as we have to dispose nuclear waste... for that cost we can build 2 more IAC vikrantssss....
Arthur Humphreys - Nimitz carriers carry up to 70days of food and upto 90 days of aviation fuel and spare parts. Citation: a post in Quara dated 2015: qr.ae/pGO0Wk
@Arthur Humphreys I agree with you. Your previous post appears to imply that they could carry everything they needed for 6 to 10 months without replenishment.
US CVN's constantly replenish at sea so refueling isn't necessarily an issue since they are constantly refueling with jet fuel anyway..... Great Britain has built two very fine non nuclear carriers. The real serious issue that needs a solution soon is modern and effective aircraft for India's carriers. The Mig-29k are not a great aircraft. A very interesting solution would be F/A-18's for India. They are very well known for quickly switching between very effective ground attack or air to air roles within the same mission sortie even. It would also make a good aircraft for the Indian Airforce given that they also need large numbers of newer modern fighter / attack aircraft. Then as an added bonus it would save a little money having two branches operate the same aircraft. Canada, Australia, and other countries have been very happy operating F-18's for decades now and it would be nice to see India with serious, modern aircraft for its carriers.
@Arthur Humphreys Future weapons like lasers and rail guns which they can't make work, and perhaps never will. HMS Queen Elisabeth does not need to dock as its support ships re-fuel at sea, just like the US carriers need re-fuelling at sea - in case you had forgotten jet fuel, food, and spare parts can't just be "nucleared" out of no-where. The British also went non-nuclear because many places won't allow nuclear ships - including the Suez canal, and ports all over the world. Nuclear powered submarines are undoubtedly the best option, as they depend on non-detection - a carrier battle group is about domination and presence, not hiding.
No cram depending in corvettes and destroyers alone very brave and intelligent by indian navy . Good luck with the new anti ship missiles approaching at horizon level at super sonic speed without any crams or EWS systems .

@PrincE why don't you make one in 2 years, o cerebrally challenged one!?
Wow India is Power House of Asia!
So Great & proud feeling👏👏
Jai Ho Indian Navy👏👏🙏🙏👏👏🙏🙏

I think in every school of India there should be a course to learn good manners from a Navy Officer.

Beautiful Ship. Congratulations India 🇮🇳. Love from UK 🇬🇧,!!
Its important to keep building aircraft carriers.. Its not cup cakes where you can build in an year.. In fact we need two shipyards to keep building two new aircraft carriers as 6000 crore per year for the next 7-8 years....
So cool India. Regards from Oz.

In its rebirth, INS VIKRANT is bigger, better, mightier, fast moving and is an absolute power house.
Feeling Proud!!!!
Jai Hind!!!
India aircraft carrier
Power system-American
Radar-Israeli
Aircraft carrier steel-Russian
Shipborne command system-French
Propeller- norway
People who put it all together-India So it is Indian aircraft carrier. . . . .
China aircraft carrier
Power system - china
Radar - china
Steel - china
Command system - china
Propeller - china
People who built - chinese
So it is china aircraft carrier.
India should construct another One
They are. The third one is expected to be nuclear powered and much bigger. 😊👍
This project was granted by the Parlement in 1999. That was 22 years ago.
CNN save camera cost .
Everything in India takes 35 years to build! :)
Better late than never.
It took 11 years

2022 we have led lighting finally wow ..... impressive
VIKRANT is not enough. We need nuclear power carrier who can sail for next 20 to 25 years once fueled.

Beautiful ship. Great job.
Sometimes I feel we should keep our dry dock busy building IACs one after the other... keep evolving IAC 2...3... since it takes 7 years to build
28 knots wow thats blistering fast for a tiny aircraft carrier . Surely no torpedo can go beyond 28 knots . Indians are so fast and furious .
JAI HIND 🙏❤🇮🇳
India is number one in the world because it can hand over a boat to NAVY and frighten the whole human being.
Awesome 😎 💪🏼
No cram depending in corvettes and destroyers alone very brave and intelligent by indian navy . Good luck with the new anti ship missiles approaching at horizon level at super sonic speed without any crams or EWS systems .
It would be cool if India also developed a modern naval fighter and become fully independent
TEDBF on the way
