The current world order is dominated by the U.S., so if India, as a non Western country, develops a powerful blue-water navy, why would China oppose it? I think andaman nicobar is the most effective base or indian navy to counter china, china will never chose australian water to enter indian ocean, so the only option for them is mallaca, and the Andaman's shallow water acts like a natural gate for the mallaca straight.
So India should'nt build it's own facilities in India? Also, it's called Indian Ocean for a reason. Many countries tried to take control of it for thousands of years and failed for a reason. Strategically, it has been dominated by Indians for centuries and will be for millenias to come due to their position. Every other development there by any other country is temporary if you see the big picture.
As a Chinese, I can say no one care about that or think India will use this to counter other countries. Why are Americans so keen to describe China and other countries as a "confrontational relationship" and describe some of China's normal development behaviors as ambition or monopoly, even though China has never shown this tendency. Your inertia of thinking exposes a reality: US is the one who like "confrontational relations" the most and the ones who like to challenge other countries the most.

From the description that China is worried about its trade through Malacca strait being choked off by adversaries, it looks like China's expanding influence in the Indian ocean is more defensive than aggressive. If China's increasing presence in the Indian ocean is a threat to India, then US's military presence all around China poses a threat 10 times greater to China. One cannot deem one as a threat and the other as benign. Once one filters out the media bias, then one sees that the fundamental problem is the security competition between great powers that traps them in the security dilemma, not because one country is bad and the other is good. The question is how to manage such security competitions to prevent it from spiraling out of control like the war in Ukraine. Actions that seek to intensify the security competition so that one side wins over another is extremely dangerous and need to be called out.
it's not just China's presence, but their aggressive actions like ramming and blocking other ships, that's why other countries are increasing patrols and stuff, saying that "it's just competition" is misleading and wrong, no one else has a problem with US having bases and patrols in the area
@@danielzhang1916 China has not blocked any commercial ships passing through the South China Sea. But China did block Philippine resupply ships for Sierra Madre, which is a military vessel stranded to cement Philippine territorial claims. That's the nature of territorial disputes, and there is no reason to expect China to forfeit its territorial claims any more than the Philippines. India's neighbors also have no problem with China increasing its presence around India, but it doesn't mean that India has no problem. That's exactly what the logic of security competition predicts. Ignoring and rejecting the fact the driving dynamic is a great power competition and security competition will only lead to policies that further exacerbate this competition and increase the risk of war.
@@ivand0007 and here's the comments for all the Indians to see. This is why I keep saying that the China-India thaw is so important. The Americans will never treat India equally.
India currently has 4 nuclear submarines. The 3rd submarine, INS Ardiman has been spotted many times by satellites since 2022. The last and final submarine of this class was launched in mid 2024. Believed to be in sea trails right now. The official number is still 2 because the Indian navy likes to keep its nuclear arsenal under uncertainty. The S5 class, the next generation of Indian SSBN’s is completing design phases. Once the first submarine of the S5 class goes into construction, India will officially induct the other 2 Arihant class submarines. This is just an observation. The arihantt was first spotted in 2015 but India didn’t officially induct it until the 3rd submarine had entered sea trials in 2020.
Nuclear Ballistic Sumarines are here, Nuclear Attack Submarines are also coming. Also India has now a naval port presence in Chahbahar (Iran), Minicoy Island Lakshadweep (India) as well as Andaman and Nicobar Islands (India) which was not discussed in this video. India will always be a big player in the Indian ocean in the coming years.
We need India to stand up PRC hegemony. India would be an important ally to stop Communist Chinese imperialism. China wants to be the Middle Kingdom again with all neighbors and nations kowtowing to the CCP.
I'm shocked at the comments of people not realizing that it is China's interests to see India economic and even military influence rise in the region. It's in their strategic interests that India a country that will always consider itself independent and will never formerly join an alliance rises to their level and challenge the US who wants to dominate the world until the end of times. The dynamics is very simple, the world order is dominated by the west, The US is the leader in the west thus is the leader of the world order, the rise of China mechanically reduced the US influence in global affairs as its economic, military and technological influence rose If another nation like India that considers itself non-aligned and refuses to join western alliance's rises, the same mechanically movement will occur and the US influence will automatically decline further in the world and true multipolarism will be created. It is the reason why the Chinese are not acting with India the same way they're acting with the philippines or Japan, they did everything to stabilize the border and stabilize the relationship because they ultimately believe that India's rise is in their strategic interests in order to weaken the US global influence further. Their ambassador even said it in a forum of the Asia society this year.

R. Gandhi: Caste of nuclear submarine..!?
The US is definitely bad, lile REALLY bad
just like china claiming entire sea is a threats to ASEANS
it's not just China's presence, but their aggressive actions like ramming and blocking other ships, that's why other countries are increasing patrols and stuff, saying that "it's just competition" is misleading and wrong, no one else has a problem with US having bases and patrols in the area
Here's where Pakistan comes in a nuclear power with a population of 260 million people. Pak and China have built a port there to bypass this
@@danielzhang1916 China has not blocked any commercial ships passing through the South China Sea.

If China backs away from our territory leaving Kashmir and dropping claims on our land, aswell as pressuring Pakistan to normalize relations, that will form a good alliance with the nations or atleast improve relations enough so that we will prefer China over the USA because we already like Russia and the US is increasingly getting into our politics and protecting separatists (khalistanis) who claim that Sikh’s are being treated badly when in reality, sikhs in India like to live in India and not another country.
