Hi Youthman, great video! I too own the Klipsch RF-7 series iii and the matching center channel RC-64 series iii along with the Klipsch surrounds as well. I just wanted to say if your running Klipsch speakers you might want to consider running a Yamaha a pre & pro combination which would work well in your system. The thing about Klipsch and Yamaha and why they match well together is still a mystery to me. On a personal note: I'm using a Yamaha RX-3060 A/V receiver and it sounds amazing though the Klipsch speakers. I hope this helps.

Wonderful video! Definitely thoughts that are fresh in my mind since I just finished my theater room and definitely had to make some compromises due to existing space.

I love this! I will say (and I'm just gonna type items in here as I go through your video)
1. Yes yes YES, dedicated rooms are the way to go. If you can dedicate, do it! Shared is okay but dedicated is the bees-knees and no it doesn't cost eleventy million dollars. Just take your time, build it slow and before you know it you'll have a KILLER dedicated room.
2. Duuuude, absolutely! Blacking out the ceiling (and in my case the front and side walls as well) is a visual GAME CHANGER. Nevermind the aesthetics of the room, going full blackout makes your projector screen into a window. You're no longer watching a movie on a screen, you're looking through a portal into a living scene. It's truly no-compromise.
3. YES YES YES! Match as many of the speakers as possible, if possible. I have matching LCR towers and I can't see why this took me so long. I built my 7 bed layer towers to all match and it's seamless integration when the voice or sound travels around. Identical speakers all the way around is optimal. Being able to have matching speakers on the ceiling would be ideal but that's definitely an engineering impossibility in a lot of cases.
4. I control my subs from my MiniDSP but they ARE all externally amplified so I can just switch off the amps to go down to a single sub or whatever.
5. I only disagree with you here that I don't go to the cinema at ALL unless it's a special occasion. Sometimes the first lady will want to go to the theater for new movies or her family will want to make it a thing. I can ALWAYS wait for movies to get on UHD or Blu-Ray. My theater sounds substantial and it's so much more intimate and controllable.

Great video. I wanted to go with bigger than my 100 inch screen, but my room is 15 feet. Front row of seats is 6.5 feet away and I just don't think I could push it. I sit in the back row that is 13 feet. Agree with the comment on conduit and wished I had thought of that now that I'm thinking about adding Atmos speakers. Cool thing about mine is it built in a basement room with absolutely no windows.
The thing I loved most about this video...HONESTY and sharing the BAD
Not sugarcoating the bad stuff... It's these kinda issues that deter most people from attempting to build something for themselves...but if you get to know the challenges, you can be careful going into your own setup (whether simple or outright killer)
The best thing about my theater room is the low smooth ceiling that allows me to use atmos enabled speakers. My gripe with it is size as it limits me to bookshelves. On the other hand I am able to get away with one sub.
I have a single 10" sub too. The klipsch SPL-100. Thinking about squeezing 1 more into the room.

You honestly have one of the best home theaters on UA-cam. It is not even my style, I prefer a more modern look with dark walls, ceiling stars, and a grey color screen, but I can recognize it is great.
What I like about it is how the speakers are hidden, the fact that your screen goes wall to wall (I really hate those setups where the screen is in the middle, and the speakers are visible on the sides, it looks tacky, and makes their screens look small no matter how big they are), I also love your seating, and that wooden cabinet is not my style (I like a modern look more), but it looks luxurious, and that's cool.
I also imagine your sound is pretty cool. I would prefer not having windows, or glass doors, but those curtains you have are a good choice because they are plain (I hate the other curtains some people use with flowers and leaves, they look like old lady's) these ones you have are nice.
Lol! I've done that reach around on my receiver plenty of times haha. I even used my phone selfie camera mode to try and see back there recently. Which funny enough, actually worked.

Recent Denon 4400 9.2 receiver in a 7.2.2 configuration - a 12" Klipsch down firing 300w sub, plus a 15" Velodyne 600w sub on either side of the room firing inward.

When I added my theater to the back of my house I went with the Me Cool mini split heat pump. Does a great job in heat and cold. You should check it out.

Just redid my 7.1 with in-wall surrounds. Had to use one free standing for side surround. Prewired for 4 atmos in-ceiling when I can afford 11 channel receiver. I used monopoles. It's nice, a little localizeable, smallish sweet spot, should have a second sub. I'm wondering about adding wide fronts, but they seem to be last on the list by most accounts.
Youthman..It's great to have honest people. You made me feel so much better about the flaws in my setup. We all assume that the folks on UA-cam is problem and worry free.

Awesome video! Three words for your heat problem: ductless mini split. We’re adding that to our extension due to a) solid concrete room and b) way cheaper than extending the duct (if it were possible). Check it out and hopefully it’s a viable option for you.

Please consider creating a video explaining how you built and mounted your screen. I love it!! Obviously, this would be cost prohibitive for many people unless it’s DIY.
You can ABSOLUTELY go bigger with your screen. When I was slinging screens for Stewart and SI, I ALWAYS said if the calculator said "X", go to the next logical size up. Go BIG!!

Btw, I've always had to deal with whatever leftovers the the contractors give me in terms of HVAC and plumbing obstructions, so speaker placement many times ends up sketchy at best, BUT.......the end result after tuning always amazes me leaving me to believe it isn't as critical as we think....I've even done systems with everything in the ceiling and if you use the correct drivers the results will impress...
I was at Excision the other night in PiXsburgh, he was running 48x18 on floor across front...that's another story 😆😂🤣

The difficulty in me reviewing screens is my screen is not removable as it is a custom build. With UST, I can take them over to my friends house and review them there.
I have a new projector I will be getting soon that I will review.
The Klipsch headphones (HP-3) are amazing! I have heard a lot of high-end headphones and I am telling you Klipsch is one of the best! I was honestly very surprised since they mainly focus on speakers. I never heard their TWS.
Do you have eny acoustic threatment than those sidewallpanels in the space?
Basstrapps or cealing dampening?
You would get nice basstrapps on the empty space in above your mains behind the screen?
The ceiling acoustic would bring your sound quality to next level too.
Ive done that and it was the best thing to make sound better.

I built my theater in late 2015. I had a budget that was on the low end compared to many others. I have a Onkyo 636, reused subwoofer from a HTIB, $350 silver ticket 16:9 135” screen, elac debut 1.0 B6, C5 center and towers. I have atmos bouncy house speakers. The projector is a JVC RS400. I am very happy 4 years later. I have other hobbies and financial responsibilities that precludes me from being on the constant upgrade cycle. Eventually I will upgrade my AVR to one that passes HDR. I just have a hard time replacing stuff that is not broken.
Hi Youthman, your videos are guiding me as I'm doing a smaller scale home theater as I finish my basement. I have a question about your caseta lighting. Do you have to have one of those physical switches for each "zone" you're controlling on your phone? I'm going to have 4 zones in my room so I'm guessing I need the hub and 4 of the wall switches? Totally agree with you on the Logitech Harmony, smart lights (Hue) and voice control (Google Home)
We are upper entry level with the Denon AVRx4500H + additional 2ch Unity 2x100w Amp all driving KEF UniQ bookshelf speakers and a pair of CerwinVega 10" subs.
All setup in a relatively small living room. Sound is great, TV is ok with DX800 65" ...plan to upgrade to 65" or 77" OLED.
Anyway it's been a fun project.
Love to go the next level such as your Movie room.

I appreciate the inspirational video. I'm very new to the game, and trying to learn what I can (which is why I follow this channel). I'm hoping to have a dedicated theater room when I move soon, as I don't currently have the space. I currently have a Klipsch 5.2 system (RP-280F's, 450C, 250S, etc.). I was thinking of maybe adding a couple 140SA's for height, then pick up another pair of 250S speakers when I have the room. I hadn't thought about using the same speaker for the front three channels, but it makes sense. I couldn't believe you had THREE La Scala speakers back there lol. What kind of subs are those?
As far as screens are concerned, I like the idea of acoustic transparency. I also wouldn't settle for anything under 120 inches. Along with that, I will have to decide whether to go the ceiling mounted projector route, or the short throw variety. I haven't done a price comparison, but I'd bet the ceiling mount might be the cheaper route.
I like the drawer solution you have for the equipment (processors, amps, etc.).
I’m thinking about building a separate little room for my own equipment, complete with a telco rack, and just keep the Harmony Elite, Xbox controllers, the TV, and the speakers in the main room. Rear access to the connectors has always been important to me, despite not going back there anywhere near as often as you do. :)

I agree with you on the screen size. THX also recommend 80hz crossovers. They're a great guideline but they're not always the case. Unlike the front seat of a theatre you're not craning your neck to take in the image which adds to the comfort level in you're room..

Awesome set up how wide is your room i am doing 7.1.4 soon and haven’t put the atmos speakers up yet i hear you would prefer 4 5 6 7 speakers lower i have a little i lie down in my listing spot on bed so its hard to have the ear level at the moment i have them about 2 foot above my listening level you think i should bring them down ?

My room isn’t dark enough. It’s not long enough. Acoustics COULD be better. My seating is just a sofa. I too, have two doors in and out of my room, and there at either side of my rear surrounds. Which makes it difficult, sorry, impossible to place one of my subwoofers at the rear like I want to do. Doors open onto them if so. Can’t flip my room around to avoid this because then my front stage is between the doors. Just to mention a few issues with mine. But boy, I love the way it sounds. I am genuinely in love with it. And I have to walk through it daily as it’s in the middle of the house, and I get to look at it and say, “ Yes baby, il see you at the weekend” 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Hi Youthman. I still remember the first time I saw your channel and saw you encouraging people to be creative. On that day I said to my self “why not go bigger on a small room but make it look good with great sight & sound. My dedicated room is 10 x 11 and believe or not I have a 100 inch screen with a 5.2.4 system that consists in a: Denon X6500 receiver, Klipsch RP280/RP250c/RP250S/ (4) RP600M/(3)PB2000 subs and a BenQ 3550 projector. Sue is not perfect and it may seem to be a bit overkill for the room size but like you said in this video, the key word is “immersive” and to have that experience you have to go bigger but at the same been creative to maximize every single square foot of the room. This year and beginning to build my dedicated HT room is gonna be a 14x19 room so I hope to invite you once is finished, (don’t worry I will pay you the plane ticket 😂). Thank you for giving me the motivation and I also want to inspire others to do the same. My best wishes and blessings to you and your great channel.

No matter how many times I run audyssy, take measurements using REW, change settings on my Mini DSP, move speakers around, repeat, repeat, still have a big null right in the center of my room, but the bass is slamming in the bathroom in the next room.
Good video man! Another note just rented Midway from red box guys and the LFE in that movie was RIDICULOUS!!!!! I've never heard my HSU hit so hard and low. Just wanted to put that out there for y'all. 👍🏽👍🏽

@@Youthman Yes! Definitely worth the 2 dollars man. You can rent it in blu-ray of course not 4k but good enough.
@youthman you could get rid of the left door, replace it with wall, and drop those rear surrounds down. Also, you could remove the sliding doors and replace them with wall, and go with in-wall side surrounds. Could also do in-wall rears.
Small issue with closing off the double sliding glass door...I would no longer be able to review large items (subwoofers, theater seating, and speakers). I have considered in-wall surround back speakers. Just not sure yet.
Question can you give me your opinion about Kaleidescape. I have a great DVD collection over 4000 was looking at Kaleidescape‘s vault as well as Purchasing 2 TB servers
Great vids you have inspired me to use my spare tower as a centre I was wondering about the height I see your fronts are sitting on top of the cabinet ? Does that not place tweeters to high? Keep up the great channel!
Ideally, you want to have your tweeters at ear level. If you can’t do that, you should angle the speaker so that the tweeter is aimed at your ears. I have 2x4’s under the rear of my LaScalas that angle the tweeter at my listening position.
Thanks I’m here in New Zealand under lock down so I have time to play around with my speakers I have all c97 Jamo on the bed layer but a c9 mtm centre which I’ve always wanted to hear how a c97 would sound and now thanks to covid19 I have the time ! Thanks again for the great channel!

And I think it was worth making this video. As few of us can truly build a custom dedicated HT room from the ground up. Your room an exterior room with a sliding door. Was it the "family room"? Do you ever hear the doors vibrate?? What about outside light? Do you hve some foam to put over the doors when you're not expecting people to walk in from the outside?

As for your heat issue, you can look into a in wall ac unit. I've seen some really nice ones, it's super quiet and the head unit is almost flush to the wall. It'll cool off your room with ease.

@@Youthman Also look into any Minisplit A\C I have one does both heat and A\C in my detached garage 25x25x8 that is my Mancave 7.2.4 100 inch screen, FYI you dont have to get heat pump if you dont want , I did. I Live In Nebraska

I need to look into the Lutron Caseta, light control is something I haven't sorted out yet. In my last theater I just had a couple dimmers in place of the original light switches.
I'm just getting started on the new house where my next theater will be. I've been trying to figure out pre-wire for everything and was wondering about light control. I'm guessing this Lutron Caseta will just need power and it will be wireless communication with dimmers in place of the original light switches?
Honestly I don't get particularly excited about lighting effects such as behind the screen or under the seats. For me, dimmer control of the main lights, some step lights for in the dark navigation and maybe some effects lights somewhere on the wall. Last time I had some acoustic panels mounted on the walls offset from the wall just enough to have a nice red LED glow coming from behind them. That's probably all I need for effects lighting.
I will have a "control room" behind the theater back wall. The projector will be in the control room along with the AV processor, the surround, Atmos, aux sub-woofer amplifiers plus sources such as BluRay, media PC etc. LCR and two main sub-woofer amplifiers will be at the front below the screen. The control room can also house the Lutron Caseta bridge plus anything else I haven't thought of yet. (Suggestions welcome).
One good thing, the theater will be surrounded by attic space above and on three sides and the control room on the fourth side. There will be access to get beneath the raised floor from the bottom of the control room. So it should be an easy matter to run lines for any future upgrades. Still, I would like to install pre-wire during construction for as many possibilities as I can imagine just to avoid having to deal with it in the future so all pre-wire suggestions are much appreciated.

I use tall towers on the floor. In the back of my room, and the surround sounds good sitting next to them surprisingly. I would still rather have them like you do, but I wonder if that makes a difference with space hearing them.
Towers would be great, I just definitely do not have the room for towers for surrounds

Your media room is very similar to mine in size. I'm at 13 x 18.5. I've definitely had to get creative to use the space the best way possible. I also built a riser just like yours to elevate the rear 3 seat recliner. The difference is, you have some VERY nice eq! I'm using klipsch rp series all the way around with a single klipsch sub, a Yamaha rx-a1080 receiver powering everything. Switching to the Yamaha rx-a3080 next week. I can't imagine having separates.

For sure! Even though I wish it were maybe 5 feet longer and a couple feet wider, I'm still very happy to have a dedicated theater room vs a living room.

Youthman...hello my friend,yes you are right ...i just got the delivery of 2 s3612 ipal subwoofers and man i had problems ....for one thing the mini dsp did not let those beast work from the very beginning they work after i remove the mini dsp 2x4hd,but wait it gets worst my receiver pioneer sc 55 stop working within minutes, lucky i had a yamaha rxv367 on standby,but youth man those psa 3612 ipal are my dream...i am over the road right now and i am thinking of them...

Awesome video, it’s funny people get intimidated buy custom home theatres but like you said you have the same problems other people have, as well myself, but making it sound amazing based on your limitations is what makes it worth it. I think the most intimidating thing for people is the cost for the audio equipment, they want what you have for a quarter of the price. Honesty hurts on that though because it will come through in the sound for them cheeping out on quality. I’m always honest with buddies about the cost because it’s real.

Hey Ben, unfortunately there are no plans. My friend designed and built the cabinet pretty much in his head. He’s literally the smartest person I know. The only thing we had to work off of was google sketch up that he designed just so he could show me what he was envisioning in his head

With your screen aspect ratio, does Imax Enhance (taller picture) create a problem now? My own screen is a 16:9 ration 100 inch diagonal, so now that Disney+ added the Marvel movies in Imax Enhanced, I'm getting to use more of the screen and the experience seems bigger. I'm wondering if for you, the taller image now robs you of some screen real estate?

Few of us have the opportunity to build a dedicated HT room. From the ground up. In an unfinished basement.
Usually the HT room is an after thought. We've moved in to the home and then one day decide we'd like a HT room. So we have to take an existing room and work around obstacles Doors being in the wrong spot. Might be pipes along the wall that has to be covered up so there would be a protrusion into the HT room. Or ducting in thee ceiling. Obstacles that would stop us from starting with 4 flat walls and a flat ceiling.
Ceiling height might be less than optimal. Typical ceiling hight is around 8 feet. Some newer homes have 10 foot ceilings.
So taking an existing room usually means you can't do any sound isolation treatments. Into the walls and ceiling. Which prevents us from being able to really enjoy the HT room without annoying the rest of the family or neighbours.
Most people with HT rooms ignore sound isolation and acoustic treatments. Which IMHO should be taken care of FIRST. And might be a sizeable part of the budget. As it involves room construction. How complicated? Means more money.
I have yet to see any HT you've featured where the home owner has sound isolated the room...allowing him to watch movies at reference levels at 3 am and not wake the baby. Can be complex. But in the end needed for the ""best HT room".
Most of us can't afford a custom HT room. e.g. Living room HT's.

I think the imperfection of your Room is the thing that makes your room actually your room and makes it special. There is a Channel from Germany thats called Grobi.TV and they are professionally building Home Cinemas on another level. Im talking about building a room into a room with massive accoustic threatment. And mostly the speakers are hidden. I actually like it that the speakers are visible. I got a 7.2.8 Setup in my cinema which switches between Auro 3D and Atmos (in German there isnt so much atmos content like in English. So i have to go for Auro3D very often.)
But if you got so many speakers it looks fantastic. Most people get blown away seeing whats possible nowadays. And thats not even the maximum. Technically you could go up to 32 Speakers with the Trinnov at DTS.X Pro . I mean thats amazing!
But i like how you managed your Beamer . Its not in the same room. The Beamer makes the most noise i think and generates the most heat i bet. Having it in another room is the best thing. In my cinema its the opposite of yours. I got the av and everything in a seperate room and the beamer in the same room ... Do you know when you are going for the JVC? Kinda interested in your thoughts about this beamer. I mean ive already got the Sony VPL VW 270ES which also costs 5000 but im not as happy as i could be with it. Id like to have a laser projector but they mostly dont have 4k and 3D under 10k.

Ok, I want to go 7.1.2 or 7.1.4. This is my problem. The only good spots I have are at ear level (above my Sourrond speaker) and behind me (above my back surrounds). Should I just do the 2 or the 4? Is the panning from front to back and back to front in the ceiling that important? Thanks. Love your vids man.
have you considered getting rid of the ceiling speakers and using elevation speakers high on the walls or having metal poles in the ceiling mounting the SVS elevation speakers on those.. instead? Such as the SVS Elevation speakers. Youthman
No, my in-ceiling speakers sound fantastic for Atmos. No need to change them out at this point.
