Youthman was able to dial in his favorite settings using similar Klipsch speakers but to me the real strength of Audyssey is getting different speakers to play nice together. I have a mix of horn loaded Klipsch speakers and some dome tweeter speakers and they have different efficiencies. After I screw up the setup and things sound bad all I have to do is run Audyssey and they sound great again.
TY for the tip on up firing ATMOS speakers.
Awesome. I just got the Denon X4500H with Audyssey XT32. Can’t wait to set it up. Thanks for the great information. Always enjoy your videos.
Did you manage to use the Audyssey XT32 ? I just bought the X3600H and it hangs while "Analyzing" at 60% point.
You are the BEST! Thank you for your detailed walkthrough with the speaker setup. I'm going to try out my speakers now!
Fantastic video, explain everything really well, and make the "going by your own ear part" a lot less scary
I love my 8012, the sound is amazing.
Brother you addicted me to home theatre, till now I spent 15000 euro for my first ever home theatre, I researched a lot about the equipment match to my budget and I bought piece by piece, It tooks a lot of time and still not completed, thanks a lot, after all I was looking for this procedure, very detailed and step by setup.
This is great, Youthman. I just scored the sr6012. Looking forward to setting it up and hearing the difference from my current Pioneer!
Awesome Jonas! Congrats. Let me know what you think of it after you get it setup
@@Youthman The Marantz sr6012 definitely clarifies dialogue much more than the Pioneer 1019 did. It has more clarity overall. The streaming music feature through Heos is fantastic. Now, I've started to hear some of the lower quality of some recorded music. Just a suggestion: sometime could you do a video on quality of digital audio recordings?
This made a big difference in sound for my set up. Good video.
Awesome!
This is a great Video Youthman ! thanks for sharing !
Good, foundational review. I especially liked the explanation of why you want to set the crossover at 80Hz for the main speakers and overlap the LFE at 120Hz. Makes sense.
Thanks Rob
Not sure about that... wouldn't the bass content between 80-120Hz be sent to the Mains if you put a Low Pass Filter of 80 on the Sub? I don't think the Denon would just discard the Audio...
Not that I am aware of. But I am not 100% certain.
@@Youthman
REW should provide clarity...👍
Fantastic video! I was dead set on a Yamaha Aventage, but now I won't buy anything without this type of calibration.
You are awesome youthman!!
My Marantz 8015 should be here this week. I can't wait to set it up..
Thanks for the set-up demo...
Nick
Congrats Nick!
Thank you very much. Very informative and easy to understand. You've got a new subscriber. Thumbs UP from Russia! Keep on your very good an helpful job.
Great video mate , ill be setting up my 1st denon avr tonight, and I'll be following your advice to the letter.
Thanks
Wow, your home theater 'setup' is quite impressive. Thanks for the vid! :)
Thank you, here is a complete room tour ua-cam.com/video/9rQxNd1Lf38/v-deo.html
@@Youthman i been told that changing distance and level after calibration are messing the delay with audyssey and that is not recommended.
Apparently the microphone from audyssey is more accurate than a basic SPL meter.
Nah, that's mostly audessay Fandom speaking. I mean, even if you used the best auto - calibration system in the world there's really no guarantee that you would actually liked it. Just tweek the heck out of it to your personal taste!
You are the BEST! Thank,👍Fantastic video, explain
I got my sr7013 yesterday for 1300usd. Sooo love it!
Congrats!
Wow good setup
Outstanding. I have a Denon receiver on its way - same Audyssey set up. This was very helpful. I’ve always set speaker crossovers to 80Hz since getting into THX.
Congrats!
@@Youthman and don't tell anyone, but Klipsch RP-500's en route as well - schhh 😂
Good thing these comments are not public for everyone to see 😂
My SR8012 will be here Friday can't wait to set it up and tip the house over!
MOTOWN enjoy it 👌
Oh yeah! Let me know how you like it
Great video. It's nice to hear someone who knows what they're talking about. I've been using Audyssey on my AV Receivers and processors for years now, and there's tons of misinformation about it, so it's nice to see someone spread the truth. (LPF for LFE, I'm lookin' at you!)
Though I always go in and "fix" the issues I've had with Audyssey setting speaker size and crossover, I've never thought to level match with an SPL meter too. That's a great idea and I think I'll be doing that double-check in the near future. I suspect that, in my room, it will be pretty accurate. I've found that my measured distances are dead on. My room is symmetrical and acoustically treated, so that no doubt helps.
Thank you for the kind words Christopher. I certainly do not know it all when it comes to Audyssey but gladly share what I have learned over the years with others.
Have you ever tried the Audyssey app? Once I get some free time (what’s that) I want to purchase it and see what it has to offer.
A word of advice on level-matching post-Audyssey: The in-AVR tones are almost never the best way to do this, because even after you do a calibration, those tones don't tend to have the equalization applied. Audyssey sets its levels based on the post-EQ expectation. So ideally, you would want to use a disc with test tones so that the tones themselves have had equalization applied when you're reading them with your meter. Also, IMPORTANT: When you do this, disable DynamicEQ. DEQ slightly boosts surround presence at lower volumes than reference (0). So unless you're running the test tones with volume at 0, the surrounds will read slightly higher if you have DEQ engaged. DEQ also boosts the sub to increasing degrees as you get lower away from reference, so level-checking with DEQ engaged will give skewed results. You can re-engage DEQ after checking the levels.
Also: If you're running Atmos, consider that DEQ was designed before Atmos and therefore does NOT do any boosting of the overhead/upfiring speakers. The problem here is that running DEQ with an Atmos system with perfectly matched levels will collapse overhead sounds downward a bit as DEQ is boosting the side/rear surrounds only. A fair compromise is to set your AVR to your typical listening level and then run surround test tones from a disc to see how much boost DEQ is applying... then manually boost the levels of your overhead speakers to match.
A big problem with DEQ and Atmos is that you can't use the bass/loudness boost function of DEQ without the surround boost function, so if you like the former, you're stuck with the latter. You may consider ditching DEQ altogether and just raising your subwoofer levels a bit to compensate so that the cross-channel placement for Atmos will be more accurate.
TheReverendSlim THANK YOU for sharing!
Great video!
Thanks!
Good video ,Hope many people get benefited out of this video
Thank you kindly
Great video Youthman, I've got an ancient Pioneer VSX LX70, but will be getting either an SR7015 or SR8015 very soon, so this will be really helpful 👍
Thanks Dave, Glad you enjoyed the video.
Great video 👍
Incredible video! I was having such problems setting up Audyssey that I almost threw my new Denon receiver in the garbage, Very helpful, thank you. Next step is get a real tripod. That cardboard thing is a joke.
Thanks
Thanks!!! Super helpfull video...
@Youthman Great video and presentation! I think you should edit your video to correct the crossover issue. You shouldn't lower the crossovers from what Audyssey set. You can go up but not down as per Audyssey.
Thank you very much from Russia.
Thx a lot for this!
Audyssey MultEQ TX32 sounds just like the YPAO RSC Multipoint I have on my Yamaha RX-A880. I found the best setup for my room was to take a test on the C,L,R, and standing Center - I place the mic on both my ears, laying it directly on the top of my ear where my eardrum is right behind the mic just like where I sit. So if my Right ear is facing the back wall, that's where I let the EQ measure. That worked brilliantly for me. My Klipsch sound dam near perfect to me.
Good Demo. On the Denons , people have discovered that if you want Auro 3D to work correctly Front and Rear, you have to use the Front Height & Rear Height setting . Also the VOG channel is Sub 2 Out.
That is correct. I mentioned that in one of my previous videos and mentioned Channa (Techno Dad) Video. I have switched back and forth between Dolby Atmos and Auro-3D and the Atmos usually sounded better in my setup but I do not have a VOG speaker installed.
Thanks for the detailed explanation to the Bass - LPF for LFE setting! I had no idea and thought this was supposed to match my current crossover at 80hz but I was totally wrong. I will be changing this back to 120hz on my Denon X6500H tonight! Thanks again!
Glad to help. That confused me for a really long time too
Great video...good job...
Thank you
Thanks very useful
great stuff
I have never done a Marantz setup. I like the way they have the setup screen for Audyssey , pretty cool. I set my Integra the same way as you, changing my speakers to 80Hz. I have often wondered about my subs tho, 80 or 120? Thanks for explaining it, and also thank you for taking the time to make this video.
Glad the content is beneficial. Turn the cover on your actual subwoofer up to 120Hz or you will be missing content from the LFE channel.
well done sir.
This is exactly how to do the setup of a Denon/Marantz AVR! Nice that you also included the tip about LPF on LFE that I told you a couple of months ago ;-)
Thanks.
Thank you for the video. Do a similar one for anthem arc please
Unfortunately I simply don’t have the time to make a calibration setup for the Anthem.
Very Good 8012 !!!!!!!!
Yes it’s a fantastic receiver
@@Youthman- that means it's a fantasy! Not what you intended no doubt.
@@stevenholton438 not sure what you mean.
Excellent explanation. Thank you.Can you do one using the new App?
PS going to change my LFE to 120HZ I set it at 80HZ.
Thanks for the video. I want to make sure I understand your suggestions on setting the crossover. Even though I have full range front speakers I should set the crossover to 80hz and set the speakers to small? I thought that setting the speakers to large would ensure they would produce the full sound the speaker was able to produce. And I was under the impression that making adjustments after the audyssey set up would defeat the audyssey adjustments made.
Dear Youthman. I am from the Netherlands and recently bought a Denon AVR-X4500H including crown xls 1502 pre amp and bought svs atm speakers together 11.1. In addition, I have a yamaha ystw 800watt and some wharfedale speakers center, front and rear. Have also calibrated well this is similar to your video advice. But with certain settings that you have adjusted such as large to small and 80 hz settings crossover and with bass on lfe. With this I also adjusted well. I have the feeling that it is similar to your marantz that the sound benefits TV movies and PS4.
A walk-through using the Audyssey editor app would be nice, and what you can do with the app that you can’t do from the reviver.
Funny on the timing. I just went through this process 3 days ago on my SR7012. One thing is for sure, Marantz' menu and calibration is a lot more intuitive and simple to navigate compared to my outgoing Yamaha Aventage 860.
Very cool. I had an older Yamaha RX-V1800 with YPAO but have not experienced the newer Adventage receivers
Awesome video Michael. Thank you for sharing it with us. Quick question though. How come you selected 1 subwoofer instead of 2?
Thank you. I selected one because I am currently reviewing the Power Sound Audio PSA S3611 and that’s the only sub I had hooked up.
This is great simple to understand I just bought a Denon AVC-X3700 it’s got the same menu same company. I just wanted to know you set the crossover on the speakers what about the crossover on the sub thx.
Also Audyssey's 'Dynamic volume' should be left off initially until the user gets comfortable with the calibration. And can be turned back on later for nighttime listening, etc... It's one of the choices Audyssey gives you right after doing a calibration. I think it defaults to off and should be left there... Just wanted to mention it since I think you skipped showing that screen-choice that pops up after the calibration... Great video for newbies!
I agree Randy. I thought it was strange that it didn’t ask me about Dynamic Volume because I’ve always turned that off. Maybe because I had already ran Audyssey, it didn’t ask? Not sure.
thats a f... epic room
Thank you. Here is a complete room tour - ua-cam.com/video/PBuHLgGkfV4/v-deo.html
Really good video, I agree with all of your suggestions. I have a Denon AVR-X3700H and everything from this video applies to my receiver too.
Thank you. Glad it was helpful
Before using Audyssey setup, I suppose it would be good to get the speaker placement the best possible, primarily the Sub. Also to then get the phase and level matched with front. Is it required to get the rest of the speaker distance and levels matched as well and if so at what level should the master volume be set at in doing this. Basically any setup steps before starting Audyssey measurements .
Hey YM, you nailed this one!!! if SW volume is set to 50% - how about its phase, where should I set it? Thanks..
I was expecting after calibration of your 8 locations that later on when you have people watching a movie you could simply select seat 1 and 2(for example) so the system could optimize for those two seats. Seams like they really dropped the ball since they have the calibration already recorded and designated seating would increase the experience....Another great video...
Your videos are fantastic and very informative. I have the sr8012 and ran calibration just as you suggested. I am having one issue... When I listen to music in Virtual mode (2 mains and sub) it caps the volume at 67. Before I ran the calibration it did not do that. If I listen in other modes, Direct, etc it will go up much higher and doesn't stop at 67. Any thoughts on how I could correct this? Thanks so much in advance!
That is strange. The only volume limiter I know is in the Setup > Audio > Volume
I'm planning on getting a Denon receiver for the first time ever! I'm coming from Pioneer as sadly Pioneer ain't what it used to be.
ColonielLizardT4
I know what you mean. I had a Pioneer Elite SC-LX901 ($3,000 Flagship AVR) and had major HDMI issues. Also the sound quality is not even comparable to a Denon/Marantz. I now have a Marantz SR8012 and lovee it.
Hell I had the SC-LX801 same HDMI issues and Airplay didn't work unless I reset the unit! My SR8012 will be Friday
MOTOWN...I think you will be very pleased with the SR8012. I know I am
Yeah I just downloaded the Manual last night and now reading all 346 pages! LOL
Oh mercy
So Audyssey has applied room correction, then you've adjusted levels/distances/crossovers manually. Does that not negatively impact the room correction?
This was nothing less than a great tutorial! I have the Marantz 7012 and am awaiting two new SVS SB 2000 pro's. So these tips were highly welcome. I also have the Audyssey Multi EQ app. Have you got any experience with it? Is it better than using the in-receiver software?
Thanks. I use the Audyssey App mainly to import my Audyssey settings for my speakers after reviewing a set of other speakers so I don’t have to rerun Audyssey every time for my own setup
I do not believe that you can send current settings to the app but you can save different Audyssey runs and recall them
I thought Audyssey says to not adjust speakers down e.g. from 120hz to 80hz but it's ok to adjust speakers up e.g. from 40hz to 80hz.
Totally agree with your setting ! I have always doing the same setting! Just a question I have 2x ATM jamo in atmos and i have put 150hz in the setting! Do you recommend me to try 80hz ! Thx in advance ✌️ if you could made a video about MultEQ apps because there’s a tons of options and customization then most of peoples don’t know how to set it ! That’s will be appreciate ✌️
Just bought my first house and now I'm going to build my own Dolby Atmos theatre. Love your videos and they inspired me to make my theatre dream come true. It's going to be a Klipsch and marantz setup with svs subs. But I don't know too much about projectors, got any tips on them? Would also like if you were able to cover projectors and maby talk about different screens on your channel, reviews and educational videos teaching about different things in the theatre or elsewhere around the house/outside.
Congrats MOTO! Building a home theater takes a lot of research, but it’s a lot of fun. I’m honored that my videos I’ve helped inspire you and hopefully are providing valuable information along your journey.
I don’t have a lot of varied experience when it comes to projectors. I started with a Panasonic AE3000u, then upgraded to the 8000u and now that Panasonic is no longer making home theater projectors, I have upgraded to an Epson 5040UB and have been extremely pleased with its brightness, colors and overall performance.
Likewise, I started out with an Elite 103” cinescope Screen and when I had my front cabinet redesigned, I upgraded to a 150” DIY screen and use Seymour Center Stage XD and could not be happier with the quality and performance.
Nice, I'm trying to gather as much info as possible. Knowledge is power they say. I'm gonna start building around Easter when the snow is gone hehehe... That gives me some time to figure out what to do to make the best room and setup for it. Thanks for the tips. I watch all your videos so I'll probably gonna comment some more, maby tell about the progress of you want.
Sounds great. Would love to hear about it. I would also recommend maybe considering starting a build thread in the AVS Forum. I know those guys were super helpful when I was building mine as I ran into all kinds of questions and they were glad to share their insight and experience with me
Great, thanks for the help, back to the drawing board for me now.
Have fun and enjoy the process
Audyssey works, but very few people calibrate properly. For the best results it's all about detail, mathematics and precision, and trust me I know, that turns 85% of people off. Most people think they just put the calibration mic in each seat and run the setup, nope. I'll try to make this brief, in every speaker layout guide it states (if possible) to have each speaker equidistant from each other. When I achieved this I had a true center listening position (confirmed and measured by Audyssey, L/R same distance, LS/ RS same distance, LSB/ RSB same distance, TMHL/TMHR all the same distance from the center listening positio), thats step 1. Next I built a (Level) mic stand with the Audyssey recommended measuring positions which are,
1. center listening position (all at ear "level" btw)
2. 2 ft. to the right from center
3. 2 ft. to the left from center
4. 2 ft. forward from position #3
5. 2 ft. forward from position #1, the center position
6. 2 ft. forward from position #2
7. Audyssey recommends 6 inches behind the center position and 1 foot to the left (3 1/2 inches behind worked for me)
8. Audyssey recommends 6 inches behind the center position and 1 foot to the right (3 1/2 inches behind worked for me)
I went to home depot and bought 2 boards / planks and built something that looks like a crucifix with holes drilled in it using 2 screws and bolts to stabilize it at 90 degree angles. Level it (with a level) on a stool or something flat using a counter weight. On the bottom of the calibration mic there is a threaded hole where you can screw the mic on to a bolt, get the matching size bolt to screw in through the bottom of the holes you drill. With the horizontal board drill a hole at the center and the one approx. 2 ft to the right then another 2 ft from center to the left. On the vertical board, drill holes 2 ft forward from the center for listening positions 4, 5, & 6, now the crucifix is a big T, counter weight the back end when measuring. And finally drill the holes for the last 2 positions 6 inches (or 3 1/2 in my case) and 1 foot to either size from the center on the horizontal board.
My results were simply amazing, for me it's all about sound sweeps, having sound transfer seamlessly from speaker to speaker, so much so it fools your mind. Now Audyssey is not perfect, switch the measurement from feet to meters, it measures in .03m increments and some times (if you have a trained ear) you have to make .01m adjustments like I did on my surround backs (+.01m each). Pick up the old THX demo disc, put on the dts-ES Matrix 6.1 Jungle Sound sample or the Star Wars: Episode 1 Pod Race scene to test the sound communication between your fronts and surrounds to surround backs, mix it with Dolby Surround for surround back channel separation. Finally set LFE+Main and 60 hz crossovers for fronts and center channels and 80 hz for all surrounds, I left the Atmos heights at Audyssey recommended settings and you are set.
I agree with you 100%.
I also read that you shouldn't mess with distance and level after calibration as this would mess your delay.
I also went into the rabbit hole of having everything equidistant and buying an spl meter.
I found the audyssey app not very user friendly with very little explanation.
Do you have the midrange compensation on or off?
Do you use roll off 1 or 2?
I use the filter at 500 hz on all speakers and leave it alone for the sub, what do you do?
My sub and right front speaker are set at the wrong distance, for the sub 1 meters difference when i checked with the tape measure, for the right front speaker about 10cm, should i rerun the calibration?
Hello, 3 years late, my receiver doesn't support the Audyssey app so I can't answer. But everything I said about the calibration process still holds true. I recently added 7 channel amplification (170 watts per @ 6 ohms) and let the AVR handle the Atmos channels and O...M...G!!!! The one thing I did different that COMPLETELY changed the game was distance match AND Level match both subs (physically moving and adjusting volume knob until the calibration results were equal), I don't think I could get my system to sound any better! With 100% of the delays working together, I even get lost in listening to music now, its crazy good. I have the old mirage OMD 15 & 5s omni directional speaker 7 channel bed layer and it lives up to its name.
thanks for the info i never cheak cross over when i made it 80 hz its sound way beter
Thanks
I just bought the Denon 3700H and some observations. While the setup guide is very user friendly it does have some flaws. Before that though let me suggest running the setup per Denon defaults. And if the Denon setup is new to you, as it was to me, (I used to use Pioneer Elite receivers and Pioneer uses their own setup software), let the Denon run automatically. Remember to run the speaker placement before the actual calibration though. So some thoughts;
All consumer calibration programs are software based. As such the programs make certain assumptions, and while they do offer user options nothing is perfect. The first time I ran the program it was obvious that I did something 'wrong.' That is when I decided that I would re-run the program, but it was still screwed up. I then decided to forget the calibration, as such,
and to familiarize myself with the actual software design. Then it all made more sense to me. After success I then left it like that for about a week. I did not change anything with it other than making some notes to explore, and what the pros/cons were of changing anything. I then began to change settings because I no longer feared 'undoing' them. I got really good at it and really putzed around 'at will, ' so to speak. And that brings me to yesterday when I thought I blew one of my 2 SVS subs, or worse yet, my receiver. I then remembered that last week when I was fooling around with the receiver, and suddenly, it seemed like the bottom of the bass simply fell out. Fortunately, one of the posts from Youthman had mentioned something about crossovers, and this fixed the problem. The problem was that the Denon software identified the wrong crossover frequency for my speakers. Once corrected it was like night and day. The nice thing about the Denon, and most likely all manufacturers, is that you can change the settings to off. Another option on the remote is a setting that offers a Pure mode (yellow button). I'm just not what the Pure mode specifically changes though . In conclusion it all boils down to what we, as consumers, want to hear - regardless of what the manual says and what the pundits say is 'best.' Thanks Youthman.
PS - I am now experimenting with turning off Audyssey altogether and how that sounds to me. Another option is simply using an old friend of mine, Radio Shack spl meter, to see if I like those settings. I've been an audiophile for over 60 years so I have about 10 old setup discs laying around. Back then the only thing offered on these discs in terms of sound was distance and speaker level. To be continued....
I forgot to mention one serious flaw with the Denon and that is it runs HOT. I'm not talking warm I'm talking hot, even though my receiver is not enclosed in a cabinet. Fortunately my $30.00 Targus cooling mat does work well enough to mitigate this problem. But the cooling fan that Youthman recently reviewed has caught my attention.
How about a follow-up down the line on the advantages of the Audyssey app? You could touch on things unique to the app (eg, crossover slope).
Yes that’s what I would like to do.
I liked this video a lot. Could you please add the set up of your Marantz on the Audio (Dialog Level, Subwoofer level, Surround Parameter, Audio Delay, Volume and AUDYSSEY)?
I don’t adjust them.
On the Denon AVR, if you set the speakers to SMALL then you want to choose LFE + MAIN. Just FYI.
Also, if you have a small room, you might set the Audyssey XT32 response curve to FLAT. Give it a try, depends on your specific room acoustics but if you are close to your speakers, like you will be in a small room, FLAT will sometimes sound better.
I prefer not to have the LFE go to my mains which is the purpose of setting the crossover. Some people like LFE + Main or Double Bass. My LaScalas do not dig very low at all so sending low frequencies to them is not the best.
I do prefer Flat over Reference for my room. Seems to have more detail.
@@Youthman To my understanding, on the Denon AVR, the LFE + MAIN is an "out" not an "in" as your answer seems to imply. Setting LFE + MAIN sends the LFE to the subwoofer and the MAIN to the subwoofer at the set crossover which in this case is LFE at 120 hZ (Denon default, unless you change it) and the main at 80 hZ (user selected unless you leave the Audyssey choice).
A simple way to test this is to select a test tone at 60 hZ. With LFE + MAIN and a crossover at 80hZ, you should get very little tone from your mains.
@@toddgatesh4498 I know this is old, but this is so wrong. Send the LFE (which is a completely different track/channel on a movie soundtrack) to the subwoofer that is designed for LFE. If you do not do this and do LFE + MAIN you will get double bass on the LFE track. Now for anything not on the LFE track (music or anything not sound engineered to the LFE channeL) that is where your crossover should take care of it and blend it between the two until your sub takes over completely. You 100% want it to be set as small speakers if you have a sub(s) no matter the size of your main speakers. To dumb it down a sound engineer can have frequencies on an LFE track that are above what a normal crossover would be, but they still intend for that signal to still be sent to your subwoofer via the LFE channel.
TLDR: LPF and crossover are not the same thing and LFE is a completely separate track that sound engineers can use to send signals directly to the LFE channel bypassing the other channels. In most cases you do not want you Mains ever playing anything from an LFE channel unless you do not have a sub or your subs are inadequate.
Agree
Sir,
Audyssey room correction is enough.
Not needed SPL/Radioshack .
I did several times experiment with Audyssey 8 positions and after I used SPL (for adjusting Each speaker @75 db at C weight slow loop.).
After few days I just ran only audyssey 8 positions. I did not trim with SPL. I just kept all settings what audyssey did in the calibration and correction(I mean after completed Audyssey I did not change any settings).
Then I found something special in my sound system.
I listened lossless data in my musics.
If you need to change crossover settings then put them 10 or 20 hz above after calibration (80 hz not necessary).
Your experience is true.
Once try it.
Note1: Before the calibration you need to choose following details: 1.Don't use lfe+main.
2.Use lfe only .
3. Keep Bass management 120hz.
Note2:
After calibration you must set that all speakers are small.
Excellent Video. Thanks a lot. I have the new Marantz 8805. I would like to save several versions of callibration (can I name them?), say with different cross overs? That way I can determine which sounds the best.
If you download the Audyssey App, you can save different calibrations and easily switch between them
Thank you for the video. A suggestion, An update in the description confirming this review overrides your earlier video on "Audyssey got it wrong" would be helpful, instead of us trying to figure it out from the dates and searching the comments to confirm that.
Now to my question, At what level should the master volume on the processor be set when starting the Audyssey XT32 calibration ?
Can Audyssey XT32 correction be limited to below the 200 Hz range, is there an option to set that and then calibrate ?
My processor is a Marantz 8088 if that helps.
Thank you for the suggestion. I just change the original video to unlisted so it will no longer show up on UA-cam. I also added updated video to the description.
It does not matter what your initial volume is set to when you begin Audyssey.
Yes you can easily add a “curtain” to limit what frequencies Audyssey corrects using the Audyssey App ($20).
Another big feature with the Audyssey App is each calibration can be saved and easily loaded so you can run Audyssey with one set of settings, rerun it again with different settings and easily switch between the two.
Set up was pretty easy for my 7012 but the one thing I havent been able to figure out is how to have the subs on when i have a 2 channel source.
Go to Setup > Speakers > Manual Setup > 2ch Playback. I have mine set to Auto and my sub plays when I’m 2ch mode. You can also turn that to Manual and make sure sub is set to Yes.
Hi Youthman
I have the Definitive Technology BP 9080 Atmos. Going to try the frequencies to 120 Hertz as you recommend
Hi Rodger. I just bought the BP 9080's too! I install and set everything up next week! Good luck.
Good luck with setup
Thanks it’s going to be fun
I am awaiting patiently for this receiver to arrive by Fedex. Replacing my 5 mono block Rotel rb960 amps matched with Rotel RSP 1570. Wife is complaining about stereo gear taking up so much space in the apartment. Loved your video cuz Rotel has never had any kind of room correction ever. Not their thing, I guess. Anyways, I have a 5.1 channel setup. Would it be worthwhile for me to bi amp my front three channels with this unit? Sorry, it is off topic.
I just run Audyssey on my SR8012 it sounds good but I have to turn the volume up to 70 % to get descent sound would you recommend to increase the volume on each speaker in the level section in the settings as they are all in minus eg front right is -6 centre is -4 left is - -6.5
Dear sir do one video for speaker frequency response for what crossover settings to receiver and processor
Really enjoyed the video. In regard to subwoofer matching, I have heard some people recommend to leave the gain slightly in the red. What is your take on that?
Thank You
Very nice video. Can you please advise me what settings should I choose to listen background sounds clearly (wind, water, birds i.e high frequency sounds) in movies. Sometimes background music suppress the background natural sounds. Your reply is highly appreciable.
I have Marantz SR7013 receiver and mainly used for movies.
ive been watching all you reviews.. i like them alot. question.. does this device calibrate/ correct for non ideal speaker placement in a room?
Great video, keep up the good work! 👍
Have a basic question, never used Audyssey before, heard great things about it. Why do all the setup and room correction using Audyssey while we have to go back and manually change some parameters like crossover and such. Is room correction and calculations using Audyssey still valid after manual changes and worth it? Thanks in advance for your input.
Yes because Audyssey also applies EQ
Youthman thanks for taking the time to respond, appreciate it! The main reason I asked is because I'm contemplating on buying a Denon x3600h, one of the reason being Audessey, the other is DV passthrough and eARC which I currently don't have. I have an Onkyo AVR txnr747 I bought in 2015 which I'm quite happy with from sound perspective. I just have a humble 5.2.2 HT to power. I wonder if the change in receiver is worth it and will make some difference.
@Youthman, when frequency response range for center channel is 82Hz -21KHz, does that mean setting the crossover for it at 80Htz is pointless, because it can’t go lower than 82Htz (ma be wrong in how I’m understanding this)? Does that, then mean you have to set the crossover above 82Htz (what about rule of thumb THX recommendation of 80Htz) for a speaker like that?
In short, is crossover frequency different from frequency response range for speakers?
Excellent video, thank you. After setup, my surround sound with movies is excellent but when I play music, like Sirius xm, it sounds like there is a blanket over my speakers. Any advice? I’m running Paradigm cinemas
I just downloaded the MultEQ Editor app. My receiver is a Marantz SR6014, so it's definitely compatible. I ran through the calibration, and I have a question about room correction results. Looking at the curve comparison, it appears that the correction was applied in the lower frequencies, but at around 500-600 Hz and above, the "after" and "before" curves are identical. Same goes for all non-subwoofer speakers. What do you think might be the problem?
Thanks so much for the video! Would love to know your take on Dynamic volume, if you use it and what setting you like? Or what use case it serves? Thanks in advance!
I recommend Dynamic EQ On and Dynamic Volume Off
@@Youthman Happy Father's Day! Thanks for the reply. I think I'm also liking flat vs reference. How about you? I had to receiver for a couple weeks before running Odyssey so I have mixed feelings about it now that I ran it
Those settings are actually personal preference
congratulate you on your channel!!!! .. a question ... I have a denon 750 receiver and I only buy it for audio since I don't like to watch TV...and i dont have TV :/. I would like to know if it is possible to configure the speakers and with the receiver through a laptop? what should I do? I really appreciate your advice. Should I download any additional software to the laptop so that it can recognize my receiver through an HDMI cable? thank you !!
I have a Marantz 6006, however, it seems to have no dynamic range at all. Ran Audyssey numerous times, also tried to setup sound envelope myself through manual config. Still sounds like an AM radio. I'm piping in my Marantz 2252B and using that for the front 2 speakers, and the other 5 channels I am using the 6006 as normal. I wish I knew if I am spoiled by 1970's amp tech, or is my 6006 just not working well.
LFE +main at 120 hrtz with the speakers set to small and crossovers at 60-80 range will there be a difference ?!Please share any feed back on that if you may!Thank you!
Do you have a video on tips running audyssey setup on an X3800 or something similar with XT32?
I'm getting 2 channel amp to utilize 7.2.4 setup. It will power my top middle. When calibrating what volume should I set the amp at? Does audyessy assist you on that?
I loved that audessy feature from marrantz I just swapped the marrantz for a rotel rap1580 with atmos and they have nothing like it smh.
Hey Youthman! Awesome job with your videos! Keep up the amazing work! In this video you mentioned that you had a created a video about “level matching”, but I’m having difficulty trying to find it. Is it possible if you can link it, or tell me the title of that specific video. Let me know, and take care :) .
Hi Porfirio, unfortunately, I'm not sure exactly which video I showed how to level match either. Looks like that would make a good stand alone video. I'll add it o my list.
Youthman Ok. :) I’ll keep on the lookout for that video. Many thanks!
Thanks
Great Video ! On 16:05 time an explanation of LPF for LFE adjustment. On my Subwoofer there is knob for crossover settings. From 80hz to 120hz and in addition an LFE position. What to adjust if the processor is on 120hz with LFE enabled ? Thanks.
Hi Youthman as always your videos are top notch so thank you! I have now have a pair of klipsch Rf-7 iii, pair of rp-600m, pair of rp-502s, and a center rc-64 iii. I also have an svs pb-3000 should I steer away from Audyssey on my sr8012 and try to calibrate it manually? My room is a typical room 16x16
I would suggest running Audyssey and seeing how it sounds you can always turn it off to see if it sounds better without it
where did you place the 502s and does it fire both directions at the same time? i got the younger 402s since it was cheaper and bought 2 sets of 500sa atmos, i think a pair of 600m would work wonders as a front height.
Hi Youthman! Love ur videos and I have quick question. What you opinion on the Yamaha RX-A3070 compare to the Marantz/Denon receivers?
Hi Felipe, it has been several years since I’ve heard Yamaha when I had the RX-1800
I set all my crossovers to 80 as well
Cool! I find that provides a great sound in my room.
Same here...
Youthman, I love your channel you make great videos. My question for you with audyssey xt32 is that my seating is basically against the back wall. What do you suggest I do with the last two mic placements? My Denon x3300w says the mic needs to be 20 inches off the rear wall. That would basically move it from behind me to right next to the MLP.
Thank you for the kind words. Make sure you are placing the mic where your ears are and not on top of your middle seat.
You do not have to utilize all mic positions.
@@Youthman Unfortunately I do use the cheezy Audyssey paper tripod. So, I should skip the last two tests as opposed to moving the mic 20 inches forward? That's actually what I did and it sounds nice to me! Thanks for the quick response I couldnt find any information on this other then move my seating which is not an option for me.
Hi Youthman, I looked at this as I am interested in a new Marantz receiver. I have a question as I’m a little confused by the lfe option.
Currently I run my pioneer elite with the double bass option. I have Klipsch Cornwall’s as my mains and with the double base option I can run them as large so the have full bandwidth. The double bass option will still send the chosen crossover to the sub to enhance it (doubled).
This is the only way I have ever gotten it to sound correct to me in my setup for theater, otherwise what’s the point of speakers with 15” subs unless it’s just for music.
Does Marantz have a similar option?
Not asking for a friend!
Thanks!!
At the time of this video did you have 1 or 2 subs connected? If you have 2 does it check subwoofer matching for both subs?
Thanks Youthman!
Matt N yes it does, when setting up 2 subs it ask you match each sub separately
Hi Youthman.... what volume level do I use before audyssey setup? Also, what crossover level do I set back ofsubwoofer before audyssey setup?
