Ngl been trying to get into wow for a while now. I played retail to level 70 and I’m lvl 20 on classic. I really like experiencing the characters but I feel like I have to suffer through the game to do so.
It's Trillion 😀 but yesh lets give them more money!!! and it's so funny, 1 company is worth over 3 Trillion but yet Countries are in debt, poverty everywhere, 1 piece of grass is left withering away cannot get a single drop of water....
Nah man, Asmon is wrong on this take. Selling cosmetics as one way to get running income for a live service game is just the best monetization model. - It's infinitely much better than selling P2W items. - It's better than subscription-only (because many games depend on players creating content for other players, and also subscription-only makes too little money) - It's better than one-time payment, because the company has no obligation nor incentive to keep servers running once they've made their money which leads to games being shut down I really don't get why Asmon is so against games selling cosmetics. It's a fucking cosmetic bro. It's not like the stupid $25 mount gives players 200% more damage than someone with a F2P mount.
25 dollars for a single mount that you need an active subscription to access. Ask yourself, does that respect the player? 25 dollars in Smash Ultimate gets you 5 characters, 5 stages and 50+ songs. Both games do not require 25 dollars to enjoy the game, but one is infinitely better. The fact someone would think 15-25 dollars for a single item is a good investment is exploitative at best. It should be 10 at best. You are wrong on this take. Mostly because WoW is not a live service game.
A subscription-based game shouldn't have a real money store. Period. You are already charging players for new content (expansions) as well as for the privilege of being able to keep playing the game (subscription). All cosmetics, all rewards and all items should be earned through in-game actions in such a game.
@@miguelcondadoolivar5149 Sure, in a subscription based game, if the subscriptions are enough to cover the cost of new development, maintenance, and the game doesn't lack players as content for other players. But the idea that selling cosmetics as a monetization method is somehow *wrong* is just faulty. Many games can't do a subscription, because that would yield too few players and too little income. For WoW in particular, I have no clue what the player counts and so on are, but I won't just jump onto bashing selling cosmetics, when there are other far, far worse monetization methods out there, and the alternative might be to have the game go into maintenance instead.
To be fair, it looks like most of the items here are stuff from either the Dark Portal Pass or whatever the Wrath lvl 70 boost was. Makes those mounts (which were already paid content) a little less exclusive. Absolutely a slippery slope though.
This is one reason I stopped playing. I never raided much, so I would go around chasing after unlocks. Mounts, pets (before you could fight them) etc... Then they started friend mounts, store, etc... and I could not keep up. I ended at Wrath, picked it back up at Cata... then again somewhat recently with a 6 month to get a mount. I'm still working through Panda storyline... maybe played 3 times since.
Isn't it possible to convert Gold > WoW token > $15 Blizzard store credit, in both retail and now this? If so, then I don't mind it. I'm okay with micro-transactions if you can still obtain items through game, as long as it's not something outrageous like have to grind for 100+hours, even if you have to use the website.
Being able to play SoD for a few months Phase 1 & 2 from a non main WoW players perspective was one of the best experiences I had ever had. I'm happy I got to experience that before this happened.
To be fair, if you've been on 6 month sub thru the Classic, you already have almost all of these with no extra charge. And 6 month sub comes down to about 11$/month.
It's the prices that has always blown me away with blizzard. A "bad" mount isn't 4.99, it's 15. A good mount isn't 9.99. It's 25. Prices for the game we pay monthly for, is just so massive and have been for all of wow's lifespan.
Do the retail mounts in Classic Store have the classic 'aesthetic' in terms of textures and polycount? or are they literally just Retail mounts in classic?
The saddest part of all this, is that there is people that not only buy it, but they're happy and think it's good that they added this, it's not surprising that most games are bad, when consumers have next to 0 critical thinking and don't respect themselves, companies can just do whatever they want, and most people will just accept it and pay, this is not only Blizzard's fault, consumers are the ones that are accepting all this trash in games, that yes, makes games worse, because it gives an incentive to the devs to create a problem to solve it via cash shop... Blizzard might be sus for doing it, but consumers are stupid for letting it happen.
The final nail in the coffin? That was struck for me personally with the character boosts and the store mount along with TBC classic. For retail... well over a decade ago.
Not the original CE, right? I have the physical copy of WTOLK somewhere, and I don't remember getting any mounts with it, lol. Just the Frosty pet and maybe some other random bullshit, but never a mount

Ngl been trying to get into wow for a while now. I played retail to level 70 and I’m lvl 20 on classic. I really like experiencing the characters but I feel like I have to suffer through the game to do so.
Aren’t these mounts all from the special editions
Its definitely not over. Just over for us.
Imagine being excited at the opportunity of giving your money to a multi-billion dollar corporation.
It's Trillion 😀 but yesh lets give them more money!!! and it's so funny, 1 company is worth over 3 Trillion but yet Countries are in debt, poverty everywhere, 1 piece of grass is left withering away cannot get a single drop of water....
Cataclysm is the end of Classic realm
Rumors of my demise have been greatly exaggerated.
-World of Warcraft
Blizzard: how can we make the community hate us more?
we had a good run, i loved classic and i also loved SOD first season. now its time to lay wow down to rest again. thanks for the memories lads.
Nothing beats my murkie pet from the first blizcon. Watching him do that dance with the cane and top hat cracked me up everytime.
Nah man, Asmon is wrong on this take.
Selling cosmetics as one way to get running income for a live service game is just the best monetization model.
- It's infinitely much better than selling P2W items.
- It's better than subscription-only (because many games depend on players creating content for other players, and also subscription-only makes too little money)
- It's better than one-time payment, because the company has no obligation nor incentive to keep servers running once they've made their money which leads to games being shut down
I really don't get why Asmon is so against games selling cosmetics.
I was considering getting back in to it for season of discovery. Glad Blizzard made the decision for me.
Not worth it, put your money into other games
To be fair, it looks like most of the items here are stuff from either the Dark Portal Pass or whatever the Wrath lvl 70 boost was. Makes those mounts (which were already paid content) a little less exclusive. Absolutely a slippery slope though.
Absolute insanity that retail is pretty much just getting a cloned version of itself with its own store.
I'm already done with WoW and WoW classic. Final nail in the coffin is a good way to put it, because I'm not coming back.
Isn't cata when they added the store to begin with? Not really surprised.
I'm pretty sure the sparkle horse was in Wrath.
“Final nail”
Took them only 486 nails to close the coffin;
which is also the most effort blizzard put into anything in for years.
That coffin has more nails than an iron maiden.
Being able to play SoD for a few months Phase 1 & 2 from a non main WoW players perspective was one of the best experiences I had ever had. I'm happy I got to experience that before this happened.
And now we know who Cataclysm is made for. Only Classic left is era/hardcore, and with some luck classic+
I swore off Blizzard years ago. I have yet to regret my decision.
Most of those mounts and toys were for buying the character upgrade for each expansion
To be fair, if you've been on 6 month sub thru the Classic, you already have almost all of these with no extra charge. And 6 month sub comes down to about 11$/month.
A coffin with so many nails it turned into Iron Maiden
It's the prices that has always blown me away with blizzard.
A "bad" mount isn't 4.99, it's 15. A good mount isn't 9.99. It's 25. Prices for the game we pay monthly for, is just so massive and have been for all of wow's lifespan.
so when can we buy the flying lion mount again?
Can't wait for Wow Classic 2 where they re-release the same game again for the third time, it's actually genius if you think about it
Do the retail mounts in Classic Store have the classic 'aesthetic' in terms of textures and polycount? or are they literally just Retail mounts in classic?
So many of us old wow players had our final nail in the coffin a decade ago. Crazy to see people still playing this corpse of a game.
The coffin is more nails than wood at this point.
Wow it's just like retail. Even looks like Retail where people are out in the same updated world on store bought flying mounts.
Thats not even a coffin anymore, its a god damn Iron Maiden
The crazy thing is, these prices look super cheap when you're used to seeing f2p gacha mobile game prices
The prophecy.
Blizzard out there using the Quake Nailgun like it's back in style.
Now they have 2 world of crafts generating money from 2 diffirent shops. Next step is an additional subscription to play classic
To be fair, it stopped being "classic" back in the day around wrath/cata as well
captain grim's how fear works in a nutshell came true
It's more nails than coffin at this point, it's more like an iron maiden.
The final nail in the coffin? That was struck for me personally with the character boosts and the store mount along with TBC classic.
For retail... well over a decade ago.
Wasn't the shop already available in Cataclysm? I remember my guildies buying mounts to support tsunami victims or whatever.
one of the store mounts was a bonus from WOTLK collectors edition....
Not the original CE, right? I have the physical copy of WTOLK somewhere, and I don't remember getting any mounts with it, lol. Just the Frosty pet and maybe some other random bullshit, but never a mount
@@nauscakes1868 nono rerelease from wotlk classic
All that stuff already existed in the shop they just sell it seperate now...
0:39 is NOT new and was in the digital CE for WotLK
"why do you CAAAAAAARELOL?" - Asmond
Please tell me the mukmorpher is a reusable item, not a $10 temporary cosmetic. I don't want to believe that could exist...
I don't mind a cosmetic cash shop in WoW Classic if it means they keep working on Classic +
